Nice work. It's always a joy to come on the forum and find a new cab that can make my TyTN 2 that little bit more perfect! Your efforts are much appreciated.

So from the Polaris you have given us this GPS tool, the new Task Manager and the new camera- did I miss anything?

this comes from a unreleased/leaked rom. tools like these should not be on the internet and available to the public. these are htc property and htc test tools.

well he has a point..it might brick some of the phones out there

the uncertainty is the point here..

No, I get "access to site blocked" by my Co. for security reasons.

Thanks for trying.

I seem to be able to reach most ftp sites like the ones on Xda, but more and more sites are being blocked by my Co.

thank you for offering this tool...

quick question - this tool will turn on the gps chip faster then using software like TomTom. - I noticed it takes a minute or two to warm up and connect.

are there any other quick and dirty methods of turning on the gps w/o having to install this cab?

please advise!

But if you think about, these roms are Microsoft's, and licensees such as HTC, we have no right to extract them and modified them. But we don't just didn't care, I figured.

Well I made an attachment, some member's can't use rapidshare at work, or on mobile.

A bit like when you released a version of snapvue for the athena?

snapvue isnt a htc debug tool. it is a plugin like htc home. these tools are htc debug tools used for testing of devices only.

i have nothing against putting them up. i have all of these from different devices including the shift. i just never release them because if htc notices these are up on the net they will require xda to take them off.

oh well ill just say this: everyone download these while they are still up bc theres a chance htc can require us to not provide links to them. or they might not even notice.

I don't think the Qualcom GPS supports it, so no, this tool won't help you there.

I find myself 100M low fairly consistently, which makes me wonder if it's a calibration problem. I don't use the built-in for anything except car navigation, I still use my bluetooth GPS (SirfStar III) when I geocache or other activities where I want reliable data.

the Baud rate is suppose to be 4800 BUT some apps like Igo use 57000 so i manually set up all my applications to use 57000 and for me i get a faster fix using VisulaGPS, TomTom7, and google maps. since day 1 of the kaisers release there is a bug in the Kaisers GPS settings app. if you change the preference to anything other than the OEM settings GPS locks up.

Also what does the different settings in repeat section mean? (Mine is set to Hot start) and what about development data? On or off?

no need to extract the files in the storage card....

copy the file as it is , since it is a "cab" file , then go and find the file with the explorer on your device and then run it.

Here's how to get te best from this cute app
I found here http://htcpassion.wordpress.com/2008/10/29/htc-gps-tools-per-windows-mobile/ a procedure that allows to get ULTRA FAST GPS FIX. I tried it and seems to work! I'm really astonished. Note: all benefits will be lost if device is switched off or battery is removed.

Let me translate the procedure and add some personal details for non italian mates:

1. Download and install .cab file.
2. Start application and set port (my Artemis default is COM4) and baud rate (my setting is 4800 but 56000 works too).
3. Place your device in a good position for gps fix (open air possibly, not under trees, not close to tall walls,buildings..).
4. Click Open and wait 10 sec.
5. Choose Clear Memory from the scroll-down menu.
6. Click Nav. Init.
7. Wait at least 5 min.
8. Click Close and wait 10 sec.
9. Close application, turn off the device and remove battery.
10. Wait 10 min.
11. Put battery back on, restart device, start HTC GPS TOOL.
12. Check the correct port and baud rate.
13. Click Open and wait 10 sec.
14. Choose Warm Start from the scroll-down menu.
15. Click Nav. Init.
16. Be patient (can take up to 10 min.), relax watching the Satellite Tab and wait for a fix (satellites will turn to green and you'll hear a beep).
17. Click Close and wait 10 sec.
18. Soft-reset your device.
19. Start your favourite GPS application and enjoy LIGHTSPEED FIX!!

Thanks&Greetings to fAnThaMaN.

Feedback will be appreciated aswell as an explanation of what really this procedure does to improve GPS performance so much..if anyone has suggestions..As far as i can understand it clears GPS memory and sets a Warm start..Anyway all the above mentionned waiting times of the procedure (except step 16...) can be drastically reduced if your time is gold :-)

Tested on Artemis and Kaiser at 4800 and 56000 bps (on each), everything ok with no performance improvement at 56000. I think that 4800 is a sufficient rate for gps traffic in our case. Ciao!

Initially, this seems great, but after keeping it off for a day or so, it doesn't lock so quickly. I am curious if most are checking quickly after running through the "fix" or if you all are waiting a day and then seeing how fast it locks?

Testing it on long time distance right now (i had too many rom flashes lately:rolleyes:..) and having quick gps fixes since this morning.I gathered some infos about this gps stuff and i learned that a "warm start"(that's what the guide+app do) involves that several satellites almanacs' are loaded into gps memory. Almanacs contain course orbital parameters of each satellite in view. This means that GPS has enough information to track at least 4 satellites for a couple of months. But this theory is very hard to apply to PPCs lifestyle...too many restarts, occasional freezes etc.(at least in my case..).In conclusion your GPS is in "warm start" mode until you: switch the device off, remove the battery, reset the device with the stylus or if you move hundreds of km away from where you obtained the warm start fix with HTC GPS Tool. Fortunately soft reset doesn't erase GPS data,so that "warm start" will continue to work.
Will try not to stress too much my PPC and let's hope i won't have to "bad" reset for a long time to report some results.

Test Update:

After almost two days in "warm start mode" fix is not as quick as the beginning, you're right juneau_shublik ! I think it's because almanac data are still a bit inaccurate to track immediately satellites as time passes, especially compared to ephemeris', but they are valid for a longer time. Anyway the most important advantage remains: every GPS app is able to immediately have IN VIEW as many sats as possible, instead of scanning and sorting them all each time. Obviously, this situation can be achieved also by using repeatedly your GPS without resetting the device (the gps receiver slowly "learns" about sats position and orbits etc during activity)...but at least with HTC GPS Tool it can be done once for good and have shorter fix waitings every time GPS is needed.
I would recommend this tool if you intend to use your PPC in situations where GPS is often turned on an off..it saves time and battery :)

This app has been ripped from a Polaris ROM, maybe there could be some compatibility problems with your device. I can only confirm it's working on Artemis, can't help you with a Diamond,sorry..Is there any gps activity when you launch the app?(e.g. blinking gps led if there's one..)

Well, I tried step to step the guide you post here... but I was not lucky :-( strange thing is that the GPS worked fine until I made a hardreset.

Now the HTC GPS TOOL doesnt show me any satellites... I clicked OPEN (following the steps) and wait 10 minutes, but still 0 satellites.

I tried this in a open area with clear sky view as you told :-(

I am starting to think that the HTC tnty2 is damaged or something, it is almost new (I used it for one week only)

Is there any other way to test the GPS?

Thank you very much for you help,

S.

Stupid questions: are your settings correct (port&speed)? Do you have any GPS activity when starting the application(some blinking leds..)? Is the GPS working with other main applications (e.g.Tomtom,Igo etc..)? I would prefer to think that your phone is not compatible with the app rather than thinking it is broken (especially if ,as you said, it's quite new). Try GPSTest (it is a freeware, look around) in the open air and be patient, satellites MUST come out after a while; this is just a test and doesn't have the same purpose as HTC GPS Tool's.Last silly advice: be sure that GPS is automatically managed by Windows Mobile (go to settings/gps.....sorry don't remember the exact path as I don't have an english ROM).

I am having similar problems with my Tilt, after having it for 2 years and many ROMs. The setting location is Settings->System->External_GPS, however mine may be fractured due to several recent installs. The Programs tab says "COM4", the Hardware tab says "(None)" and "4800", and the Access tab has "Manage GPS automatically" checked.

Im using thia tool for about 9months and the usual behaviour of my diamond is to initially show the satellites as RED dots and once gas fixed they turn GREEN. But few days back I upgraded my Radio rom to the latest native diamond 1.15.25.14 and there after I don't get green dots, but WHITE dots following gps fix. Yesterday I rolled back to my old radio 1.09 and now rhere also I get both WHITE & GREEN dots alternatively following a fix. which resembles better signals, green or white? I'm thinking of a hard reset if you say green.

Mate, my diamond gps has recently stopped working too! High fricking annoying! God knows why this has happened. Maybe the chip has burnt out due to the device cooking itself.

I think the diamond always had some sort of poor design behind it due to it sticking out some heat.
