Very clean and stable WM6.5 roms for HP 6828 WWE 20100218 update 30/6.1 M2D V3.1

Sorry, Maybe I got something wrong, the patched hpruu did not work.

After downgrading to BL 1.01, my 6828 was turning into the bootloader screen, no even touch any button. After reflashing a ROM and bootloader, 6828 dead.

I try to use JTAG method, 6828 shows update utility sceen up, and can be connected by PC, but the bootloader can not be flashed any more.

By now, the only thing that I can do is to keep try the JTAG method, and then reflash to the bootloader 1.01.

I think that maybe it is time to send it to HP service.

Playing with bootloader is always very dangerous. Maybe I should warn people trying not to flash using PC method If they are using 1.0.5 BL.

I am now trying to flash my 6828 to your WWE ROM, and then use the official HP USB update program (English version) to flash my 6828 to back to CHT WM5.

Because the ID of the ROM file is different, so I change the ID of CHT WM5 to the English one.

I hope that it would work.

Both.
If you can preserve more memory when porting XIP, that will conserve some memory.
If you can optimize the SYS. You can also get some.

The optimizing SYS will give you more memory than XIP. Removing a auto startup service will give you hundreds KB free memory.

But the memory will leak. So, the SYS will be very related to the leakage. Stable releases will be less likely to leak. XIP will handle the memory, so new XIP may handle memory better.

I don't know. They are associated with nbf ROM images. The nb0 image does not contain such thing.

O, that is wonderful, thanks for sharing. I see CHT ruu is different. JTAG method is too complicate and I myself have not tried once.

You may search on the board using the keyword "6828 dead boot".

The only different was that I connected the ground to the "screen back shell" not to the one in battery. It works. But as you know, I failed in the step to reflash the correct HP bootloader back.

I am hurry during the fixing, so that I did not take any pictures. If I restore my 6828 successfully, I will take pictures. But actully, I failed. I got no mood to take any pictures about that. Sorry for that.

I have only tried 21169. it is a little lag but the stability is OK. There are many nasty bugs. But most of them will not halt the device completely.

You can use BL 1.0.5. BL1.01 is only useful when you update using Atom's RUU. I have done this several times. I haven't tested many devices. My device is a CHT device. I am not experienced at PC methods. I hope some people in this forum will help you.

They are linking director. Linker will insert each module into a image by their physical or virtual address. realaddr is physical address. vbase is virtual address's base address.

I don't think the converter will interfere the updating. My 2G mini sd card will also break the device. I recommend you buy or borrow a small card .

Yahei font reside in the windows vista, 2008, 7. You can copy it out in font directory. Or you can copy it out from my ROM(I have modified to suite the mobile phone).

It is not a easy work. The general procedure is:
1. Extract the ROM, run pkgtools on dump
2. Replace the OEMDrivers directory
3. Replace the XIP using a Atom EXEC XIP.

For simplified Chinese style:
Microsoft Yahei -- Very suitable for screen.
Adobe Song Std, Light -- Very Suitable for printing, typesetting.

For Tradition Chinese style:
Microsoft JhengHei -- Very suitable for screen (a little better than Yahei for the shape among other CJK glyph)
Adobe Ming Std, Light -- Suitable for printing.

Arial Unicode -- For large coverage. But the shape is not the good.

wga is not the font. It just verify the genuine copy of your windows. get pass the verification and download the font. Copy msyh.ttf to /windows on your phone. Create font link as :

are you sure that you have image file of M2D V3.1 in the mini SD? if you dont have,copy it first then go to reflash procedure.

I think the time of 6.5 will come soon. And the current 6.1 ROMs is stable enough. So there will be no update for the 6.1.

Please wait for the 6.5 official release. Also I have tested many current 6.5 beta ROM. They all have some major bugs for 6828. I will wait until the official one releases or a more stable beta for testing.

Yes actually 14m! The necessary rom space for 6.1 aku<1.4 is more than 10 m. But 6.14 takes much more space. The 6.5 takes even more, more than the exist rom space so that deleting something is necessary.

help! the ipaq 6815 no longer comes on after i tried to flash via pc and miniSD. i can't use it. the PC no longer detects it. it only shows the charging lred light when connected to the PC. it no longer powers on. the rom flash i used is 2.03.02b from Nhocbanme. i can't even downgrade it back to WM5.0
i really want to upgrade to WM 6.1

In 6.14+, you can scroll in start menu, file explorer, sms, etc by touching and slashing down/up using your finger.It is enabled by default.

Ofcourse you can, just download the kitchen in the post 2nd and follow the tutorial, dump your ROM (b199 or b229), you can delete:

No, it is not the final release. Many people have even concluded that this release is a fake one because most part of the modules are identical to 21202.

Yes, your headset socket is broken. It always assume that the headset is plugged in. You speaker is OK, you can listen the FM radio using the speaker too.
This is a very common problem of 6828/atom. I have encountered this problem too.
You can:
1. Replace the socket. (permanent fixed)
2. Fix the socket yourself by restoring the metal contacts to normal position. (Semi permanent)
3. Use a toothstick or something like that, and poke it into the whole and try to restore the contacts. You can run the FM radio and turn radio on. When it says the headset is not pluggin in. It is fixed. If you cannot do it. Poke it in and out randomly and maybe it will be fixed. (Do not use the headset again or the problem will occur again)

This is a hardware problem of atom like devices. Please try my previous methods.

Step by step xip porting
1. Put original xip of 6828 in the xip.bin_old folder

I am sorry to tell you, it is a failure to port using this tool. The XIP is much small and halt at first screem.

It is long time no updates but good news for beta lovers now. I will release a Windows Phone 6.5 beta ROM recently for you all to test.
The ROM will preserve most of the WP 6.5 original functions. The flavor is almost the same as my WM6.1 ROM. I hope someone can help me testing it. So that the final release will be better.

But just a little unsure about jtag. I know about most of the connections but just one and that being the ntrst connection i don't understand where to connect that if i do. Would be really happy if i could bring my 6815 back as it's great and cannot afford another.
I've tried various roms the last one being the 6.1 rom what i was wayy happy with, but had to try another rom and messed up the bootloader. Silly me. Now no bootloader works.
Once i have confirmation of where ntrst goes i will try to bring it back.

It's great. I've been running it since yesterday and it's quite fast and stable, even though it uses a lot of memory.

It has a few very nice touches, like when you press the right-side button at the default clock position on the Today screen it brings up the old-style Wireless Manager (more useful then "set" which is what the button's label says).

The camera works fine. Bluetooth can pair with devices but hands-free doesn't seem to work (no loss for me, I never use it).

Every reboot the memory is arround 20Mb but after use the memory drown to arround 15-17mb without any open program.

I have installed it on my 6815 and all is working other than the issues listed (bluetooth, etc) and the camera does not work at all, i can go into the camera but when i take a photo all i get is a green screen.

HELP!! I can't use TomTom or Route66 anymore!!
I have always used that program with the old wm6.0 build, but now it gives me error! I have tried build 199, 299, and also my old build (the one it always worked with), but it seems that there is something that is not deleted with every rom upgrade!! A hard reset isn't functioning!

So, how can I really reset my phone? Please, help me, I can't leave with a navigator! my email is galerio(at)gmail.com

Try downgrading to original 5.0 using pc if you doubt about the residue. But I do not thing that is the problem. Did you install tomtom right after hard reset or flashing rom?

I have read your problem. I don't have any idea about that. There is a a "V1" or "V2" at battery depot(IMEI is also there). Can you report it if it is V1 or V2?

Not sure if this will work, but worth a try. Can you try the hard reset with left+right buttons instead of the red+green buttons. left+right+power+stylus or just power+stylus. Its been some time that I had to do a hard-reset and cannot remember the exact combo. Hope it works :).

My device is V2. Maybe V4 means newer device. But different versions may have some slight differences.

It is 21501. There are rumors about the releasing date of final 6.5. It is May. 11.

I may make some update to the 6.1 version later. Some people do not like the 6.5's CHome & Start menu and 6.1 gives much more ram than 6.5.

Hello, er... helloworld1, I'm sorry but it seems that both the screens of WM 6.1 b299 and WM 6.5 are a bit shifted/lean to the right. I missed "s" for "a" a lot when typing, for example. Or is it my hardware (HP 6828) that goes wrong? I used b196 without any problem actually.

And it seems that WOW SRS is still incompatible :( It still causes screen-lock after a backlight-off and on.

Thanks a lot for your hardwork, though. Please keep up the goodwork. We all look forward to your 6.5 roms (I still prefer 6.1 for the time being, though :))

Of course you can use my rom as base to release gene roms.

Actually the the only thing that is attractive of 6.5 is the touch function and widgets. I do not know how to revert start screen. The old 6828 bluetooth driver is not compatible with new bluetooth stack. So I decide to release a new 6.1 aku 1.6(the latest 6.1 version released at March 2009) rom before the 6.5 release.

Hello, er... helloworld1, I'm sorry but it seems that both the screens of WM 6.1 b299 and WM 6.5 are a bit shifted/lean to the right. I missed "s" for "a" a lot when typing, for example. Or is it my hardware (HP 6828) that goes wrong? I used b196 without any problem actually.

And it seems that WOW SRS is still incompatible :( It still causes screen-lock after a backlight-off and on.

Thanks a lot for your hardwork, though. Please keep up the goodwork. We all look forward to your 6.5 roms (I still prefer 6.1 for the time being, though :))

Screen drift problem is the hardware problem. You need to calibrate screen with some offsets. If the point you touched drift to right , you may need to calibrate by tapping the left of the ring's center around the problematic areas.

Actually the the only thing that is attractive of 6.5 is the touch function and widgets. I do not know how to revert start screen. The old 6828 bluetooth driver is not compatible with new bluetooth stack. So I decide to release a new 6.1 aku 1.6(the latest 6.1 version released at March 2009) rom before the 6.5 release.

Hi helloworld, I really like your work , 6.5 b251, i have tested for about 4 days and everything its working perfect.. i just have a minor issue. When i use the setup to configure the email... and i can type my address and password. but in the next screen its appears settings found for hotmail.com (to complete setup and download email press next)... well after that nothing else happens.. it returns to today screen and doesn`t record my email data and the sinc can not be display,,,,

It is most likely that the XIP is not at version 18128, the 18128 cannot boot a 6.5. Just because he/she didn't hex the version number. I don't try to edit version number, but using a hex editor and search the version number in XIP is OK.

I'm in two minds on this. I used your M2D_B229 V3.1 ROM since you released it and was very happy with it. Recently I've been trying out different WM6.5 roms and its grown on me so don't know if I'll go back yet.
Now I'm trying out SpbMobileShell 3.0 and its very cool. Very responsive on helloworld1's newest WM6.1 rom.

So, I'd say no hurry. At least wait until helloworld1 has finalized rom and also wait to see if any other users are keen for new M2D rom.

There is some problems. The auto configure tool will turn up every time after soft reset. Also I doubt it will configure the new mms program correctly.

How to flash from PC with Windows XP (It is ok to run it in vmware)

Thanks Knave and rcperez for posting their detailed experience so I can write this section. Also thanks jimmyspa for improving the addheader's performance greatly.
1. Check your Boat loader version
(do a soft reset, and check the value printed at the bottom during the HP logo screen)
2. If you noticed that the last line states BL 1.00.05, it means you have boat loader 1.05 installed. You will need to download and flash your phone back to 1.01 via ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34001-34500/sp34053.exe (VERY DANGEROUS, FLASHING VIA SD IS MUCH SAFER!)
3. After successfully downgraded your phone's boatloader, or your version was already v1.01, you can proceed to flash your phone to the rom.

With the check done, proceed with the required files.
1. Go to download section to download the rom file.
2. Download the file pcupdate.zip attached in this thread and unzip the contents to the same folder you used in step 1.
3. Download the latest Rom file and extract to the same folder
4. Run BuffereAddHeader.bat. It will take seconds to generate a diskimage_Ver.nb0. (You should have Java Runtime > 1.50 installed, http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)
5. Move your phone to boatloader mode ( press the two - keys, follow by a poke at the soft reset hole with your stylus )
6. Connect the phone to the PC
7. Execute the Device Utility Update program and wait till it verifies the state. Click on Update Item "All" use cursor keys to change it to "OS ONLY" then hit next **** SELECT "OS ONLY", if you cant change it to "OS ONLY" DONT PROCEED!!! It should detect your device as Model 0 etc.
8. Press Next to begin flashing.
9. Once completed, the phone will reset by itself. Wait for a while for it to startup.

Here are the notes & files provided by hochengsoon with README for flashing via Windows XP
PC flashing using BL1.0.1 must be done from C:\Windows\Temp, so why not start everthing from this folder ie PCUpdate + ROM + missing file(s).

The instruction was very clear and have explain the exact step to do. There are two PC update files. Have you try the two PC update already.

Thanks for your interetsin helping me, Helloword. I think I did not choose 'OS Only' to upgrade. When I saw that that it is 'changing bootloader' {or somethin glike that}, I immediately unplugged my Ipaq 6828. Since then, I can not start it at all. I prepare an SD card with diskimag, presseed the '-' key while inserting my battery and hold them for a while. NO Response from the Ipaq. HP customer service said through the phone that they might need to change the motherboard. Please help revive this machine. Thanks for time and patience with me.

Even the normal HP software update fails. I am using Vista. Also my wi-fi is stuck in the on setting, and this is the main reason that I am going to WM6 - it may fix this. Thanks for your interetsin helping me, Helloword. I think I did not choose 'OS Only' to upgrade. When I saw that that it is 'changing bootloader' {or somethin glike that}, I immediately unplugged my Ipaq 6828. Since then, I can not start it at all. I prepare an SD card with diskimag, presseed the '-' key while inserting my battery and hold them for a while. NO Response from the Ipaq. HP customer service said through the phone that they might need to change the motherboard. Please help revive this machine. Thanks for time and patience with me.

I will fix the bluetooth headset problem. But some other problem are still very puzzling for me. I don't try more Chinese RC ROMs. They are reported stable though. I will wait for the official. I think it is near.

Try "self test" to test vibrate and camera.

After running a selftest on my 6828 the vibrator is functioning (pass), my camera test failed.. nothing appear on the screen.. but when reset/reboot my 6828 the vibration still not functioning.. about the camera is the camera broken or I miss some setting on my phone?

I haven't found such problem. They are working fine. What app?

Maybe it is the module space conflict problem. I have fixed some module space problem in the next release. You may have a try after I release it.

I'm not sure about space limitation. Just that I was doing houskeeping & notice that those files are not in your thread therefore thought of removing them.

2) BT can listen to music and can pick up the first call. After hang up, another call coming in, it seems Ok to pick up but it becomes dead silent. Both the caller and myself cannot hear anything. However, BT always can return to play back music. Furthermore, after BT disconnect, the phone is still not able to hear anything when call again. I have to soft reset it to get the phone back to normal. Try few times, same result. However, I find this new BT driver better as I can listen back to music always after hang up. I experience hang up and not able to listen to music some times in 6.1.

FYI, I used iTech clip audio to listen to music and receive phone call

For the first problem you can do the following as workaround:
Set
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Taskba r]
"ConsistentClockOrBattery"=dword:1
The go to time settings->more uncheck display the clock ....
Soft reset.
I think using 3rd party software will do this job better.

For the second problem. It is related to the drive incompatibility. The 6828's bluetooth driver is too old. I don't have a workaround for now.

My bluetooth headset is iTech Clip Radio. Maybe the same as yours.

You can use 3rd party software to turn LED on. There are many flighlight software.

For the camera FPS problem. I don't know how to get it faster. You can set the resolution lower and the FPS will come up.

Please don't expect help always from this kind of forum even though everyone here is willing to help but one has to know there is a limit of the help that can be provided. It is always advised to do google search to help yourself.
