does it work on urs? i tried previously but it did not work, i then tried on touch-commander which clashes wit the camera veli often, problem symptom exactly like wat another member reported in the tread...

Yes, works on my rw6828 with 20080321,b46 rom.
I haven't actually tested installation on this ver rom as I restored from SPB Backup from original install under b39 rom.
I don't know about touch-commander.

Hi Helloworld,

Microsoft has release a patch for daylight saving, the changes apply to a few countries, including mine. I have make a post here with links etc http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381008

Do you think it is possible to incorporate this update in all future releases? Not that it is important, I can always reapply this patch whenever I do a hard-reset, but be nice to have it as part of the ROM, it only fixes the existing DST so I don't think it consumes any ROM space,

Thanks,

K

Emm, I may integrate it if I update the rom again along with other fixes.

I've read the complete thread to understand :

Update 6: 20080321,b46 (It is unstable from user report)

The only problem I've seen on this build are maybe activesync problem and bluetooth headset problems. Right ?
Does everyone experiences that ?
I thinking of upgrading for windows live messenger.

Helloworld, any plans also to upgrade "wm6 aku 0.7 build 18508" basis ("WM6.1 CE OS 5.2.19199 (Build 19199.1.1.0) or above" for example ?

That is hard to say, because it is tough to handle some recently bugs. There bugs are camera problem, phone radio conflict problem. I won't update the rom until problems are solved. Also the rom refuse to work on my device completely now, that hampered the further development.
I have made a clean wm6.1 build 19202 rom myself and are happy with it. yet I won't release it because it is Chinese and wm6.1 is not officially released.

Hi Helloworld,

From what I understand in your previous post, you said you have gone back to wm5 then from wm5 to b46 again, and was working fine? and what do you mean by "refuse to work"? Can you still go back to any of the previous versions?

What is phone radio conflict problem?

At the moment I am on b36, apart from Camera being temperamental and Bluetooth PAN is not working, otherwise is perfect.

I am wondering, do English language programs work in Chinese rom? I know this is off topic, mind sharing your experience with wm6.1? such as what's working and what's not?

The system will halt when after the third time I hard reset device. The radio can not initialize and the whole system does not response. If I take out the sim card, it will be fine. My radio is version 0.34.

The pros of 6.1(beta) 19202 rom is that the sms can be threaded and the Chinese IM changes a little. Also, there is a new software in OS called "Welcome Center", it does nothing. The default theme changes a little. Really nothing exciting except the threaded SMS and higher version number.

The cons includes the software incompatibilty such as resco keyboard. The battery drains a little faster.

I can port the 19202 XIP to my rom without changing anything else, but it does not provide any benefit. Also, I see the only available 6.1 English rom available is PDAVIET's series. It is hard to use this as a base rom because it is modified too much and can not get clean up.

The Chinese rom can run software of any language. But the English latters and symbols is ugly comparing to the English rom.

I don't know when MS will officially release 6.1.

Do you have statistics ?

Hi Helloworld,

Thanks for explaining all that.

My radio version is 0.33 under "setting->system->system info", when flashing the firmware you created, does it replace the radio?

I have never done hard reset on the b39 except for the first clean boot, so I will have no clue whether it will cause any drama if do more than 3 times, but I did more than 3 times on the b49 as the camera wasn't working.

What does XIP do exactly?

Not real keen on the 6.1 except for the integrated voip.

Let's hope that you could figure out what is wrong with the later built ROMs and have fixes for that... I can provide the caffeine to help :D

Thanks,

I flash the radio myself, and it may cause some problems. The rom provided contains only OS part. I uses the HP official update to flash the latest radio.

XIP is the kernel of the Windows Mobile OS. The version of this determine whether an OS is Windows Mobile 5, 6 or higher. You can notice the version number 5.1.195(WM5 aku 2.6) , 5.2.18508(WM6 aku 0.7) or 5.2.19199(WM6.1 beta). They are all the XIP, the kernel, version.

If going back to wm5, can I just use the SD Card ROM image provided on the first thread?

Hi, I'm on b39, the most stable ROM by far (to me anyway). I have no trouble at all with my external bluetooth gps receiver (QStarz or known as the i-Blue 737 I think), tried it with Tomtom, iGo, Mapking and Navman ST, all without problems, used on a trip lasted more than 1 hour+ fine.

But I never used Garmin XT, so it may be software/setup related.

As for Pocket Ringo, which I never used, but make sure the software is said to be compatible with wm6, since I moved from wm5 to wm6, at least one program I used on wm5 no longer work on wm6. All the said wm6 compatible softwares are 100% fine.

K

I have no idea why this is happening to you, as my bluetooth has absolutely no trouble, I use Samsung and Plantronics BT mono headset, both work good, GPS connected more than 1 hour fine, send files back and forth between my Win 2003 server, WinXP SP2 and my Macbook everyday no problems.

Try backup with SPB Backup of the current state of the phone, then do a hard-reset, after hard reset, immediately try the BT before anything else, if problem still exists... then I have no clue. If problem is gone, then try install back the app one by one until the problem re-appear, then you would know what causing it. That's my only advice I think.

The Windows Mobile 6.1 have been officially released in April 1. I will also "officially" stop updating the 18508 series roms. The other reason for stopping the wm6 clean rom is that I can not test the wm6 series rom on my device. I tried other people's wm6 rom but they ALL fails to run. The 6.1 runs well though. The problem is unclear but they are related to a radio update.

I will track the 6.1 rom and try to make a clean version of 6.1 rom for everyone who are interested in. It will take me some, maybe very long, time to figure how to build a 6.1 rom based on official releases.

You can not use sd card to flash the radio. Download the radio update from HP website (The update contains WM5 image, Don't delete the wm5 image or you will fail to update radio, delete eboot). Replace the ruu with patched version, then update it. You will be WM5 now, reinstalling WM6 will retain the radio update.

To be sure... here are the steps copied from first post:

======================
How to downgrade to WM5 using PC
1. download wm5 rom from http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...pappid=NextGen
2. run it and after entering the updating screen cancel it.
3. replace the hpRUU.exe in c:\IPAQ(default install) with the attached file hpRUU.exe in archive hpRUU.zip
4. Connect device to PC, then press and hold two "-" button and reset.
5. Run hpRUU.exe and do a normal update.
Note: you may delete eboot*.nbf to prevent bricking the device.
======================

The "Note" to delete eboot*.nbf should be done right after step (1) right? OR do that before step (4) connecting the device?

Just come to think about it, could the problem you have with radio anything to do with the 0.34 radio update?

I wonder how many people are still on radio version 0.34 and 0.33, and what are their experiences with b39 and b36.

I think once you upgrade to radio 0.34, there's no going back? or unless you flash with the very first official HP ROM? Hmm...

Hi,

Please note this is for 68x8 WWE (English ROM)only.

Go to the following link and download the latest radio update file (GSM update 0.34 dated 4th Dec 07):
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=au&prodNameId=1839228&prodTypeId=215348&prodSeriesId=1839223&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=2067

And then follow the previous 2-3 threads how to go about flashing it, please be very careful and make sure you have full understanding, or you'll be risk bricking your HP.

Hope that helps.

I think you got it all wrong.

Step (1) above ONLY upgrade the OS to b39, boot loader will not be touched.

Step (2) NOT soft reset NOR hard reset, has to be in boot loader mode to upgrade the OS, to go into uploader mode, press "-" together and poke the soft reset hole at the bottom all at the same time, and wait 13-15min.

Step (3) If you just want to upgrade the OS to b39 via SD card, you DO NOT need to downgrade your bootloader, you need to downgrade BL ONLY when you want to flash via USB.

There are instructions in this forum somewhere with link to the correct file to downgrade the boot loader along with the old wm5 OS, so search for it.

Note, playing with boot loader has higher risk in completely bricking the device, that's why SD card upgrade method is a lot more safer and easier.

There IS a way to flash the radio only but it is not working well on my device. Here are the steps:
1. Copy that radio file(*0.3.4-6815*.nbf) to a sd card.
2. Rename it to mot.mot.
3. Flash it using sd card.

But my device reset itself very quickly and do not really flash the radio.

so may be need to convert 0.34.00-RW6815-RS-071122N.nbf to nb0 ?

editing header of file may be ?

And mot.mot file from Atom rom, is it HP bootloader understood .mot file at all?

Hi Kusanagi,

Then what i did was pressed the two "-" buttons and poke the bottom reset whole. Then my screen showed white color background with center HP logo and bottom show PBL1.05. I think i'm in the uploader mode, pls correct me if i'm wrong.

What you did was 100% correct.

I have heard people in this forum mentioned about the same issue too (I think it's in NHOCBANME's thread). I think it has something to do with your 1G SD Card being not 100% compatible, it is also recommended that you use card size less than 1GB...

For a successful flash, after the 13-15min wait, the device will automatically go into clean boot for a few minutes (black screen with text showing "clean boot"), then you will see a new wm6 start up screen, then the new setup screen follow.

I used a 512 miniSD to flash mine no problem.

So my advise is:

(1) Make sure your mini SD is formatted correctly, try reformat using FAT.
(2) Try a different SD card, different brand, size etc.

After several days and nights working with the Windows Mobile Emulator just released and my new ROM. Finally I have made a working clean WM 6.1 rom for 6828. This rom is not based on based on other rom directly, I uses the SYS from Emulator and some from atom exec rom as well as Hermes's rom. I think it is the only 6828's 6.1 rom that is not based on PDAVIET's roms. The rom's appearance is similar to my previous rom with even less self-defined softwares. I will provide some installation packages for people who want to install them.

This time I will release the WWE rom as well as a unsupported CHS(Chinese Simplified) rom. I am very exciting. What about you?

Hi Helloworld,

"Exciting" is an understatement for me...

For me, all I need is an ultra clean, ultra stable ROM, good stuff!

Can the WWE ROM display Asian text? I will need Chinese, Japanase and Korean occasionally.

However I will wait for more user reports before jumping in.

Cheers,

K

Of course it can display CJK glyphs. The new wm6.1 rom inherit all my previous style.
Of course I do not expect common people to flash this new 6.1 rom by now. Whether it is stable is not tested by time. The new features of the 6.1 rom is really limited. Someone who likes new may try and report.

Okay, i didn't knew that a WM6 rom existed for the HP RW6828 until i saw a pretty lady using it on the train a few days ago, i initially thought she was using a WM6 theme but just to be sure, i made a quick sweep in e forums and to my surprise..there is ACTUALLY WM6 ROMs FOR RW6828...

Now for my dilemma...I saw 2 threads, one of which is this...and the other thread is nhocbanme's. So i'm alittle lost and confused as to which rom should i actually flash onto my HPRW6828. I read through quite a number of pages on nhocbanme's thread....as well as this thread..and both threads has their own fair share of bugs...

I'm currently on BL 1.00.05 and HP's WWE 1.01.03 ( WM5 ).

Pardon me for all the questions... would just to clarify most of my doubts if possible before biting the bullet like Kusanagi and upgrade....

Q1. So the big question, do i go with helloworld1's latest WM6.1 rom.... or nhocbanme's latest WM6.1 rom...?
Q2. What does WWE mean? and how do i differentiate on the first page, which one is WWE type?
Q3. What are the steps i need to take from here on out if i were to decide on helloworld1's WM6.1 rom
Q4. Is everything reversible back to normal? Which i doubt i would want to because from the comments, it seems everyone is pretty happy with the WM6.1
Q5. If i were to save my sms-es using PIM backup in WM5, would i be able to restore the sms-es after i upgrade it helloworld1's WM6.1 ?
Q6. I'm sure all of u are aware of the hissing problem from the normal earphones while u're listening to MP3's... so greedily i ask...*grins*..does this solve it?
Q7. What does those MD5 SUM in the first page suppose to mean?
Q8. The special chinese version WM6.1...is the whole thing in chinese? o.0
Q9. Can i delete the files inside the SD card after i finish flashing the rom? ( I'm using 512mb Kingston SD , FAT32 )

Your advice and answers is uber appriciated...

PS: helloworld1 ... u brought light to my world of WM5 darkness...

Q1. So the big question, do i go with helloworld1's latest WM6.1 rom.... or nhocbanme's latest WM6.1 rom...?
A1. I can say depend on what flavor you like. If you like a rom with all kind of 3rd party software pre-installed, you can try nhocbanme's modified PDAVIET rom. But if you like clean one , use mine!:D

Q2. What does WWE mean? and how do i differentiate on the first page, which one is WWE type?
A2. WWE mean World Wide Edition, that is English ROM.

Q3. What are the steps i need to take from her
e on out if i were to decide on helloworld1's WM6.1 rom
A3. See my second thread of this post.

Q4. Is everything reversible back to normal? Which i doubt i would want to because from the comments, it seems everyone is pretty happy with the WM6.1
A4. Yes, refer to my second thread of this post to see how to do. And I can help you if you have problems.

Q5. If i were to save my sms-es using PIM backup in WM5, would i be able to restore the sms-es after i upgrade it helloworld1's WM6.1 ?
A5. Yes you can do that. I tried it myself.

Q6. I'm sure all of u are aware of the hissing problem from the normal earphones while u're listening to MP3's... so greedily i ask...*grins*..does this solve it?
A6. I don't notice that. It is maybe a hardware problem.

Q7. What does those MD5 SUM in the first page suppose to mean?
A7. MD5 is supposed for you to verify the downloaded rom if they are downloaded correctly. There is a small program called md5sum to do that.

Q8. The special chinese version WM6.1...is the whole thing in chinese? o.0
A8. Yes, It is all Chinese. WWE is English rom.

Q9. Can i delete the files inside the SD card after i finish flashing the rom? ( I'm using 512mb Kingston SD , FAT32 )
A9. Of course you can delete as soon as you correctly flashed the rom. Note, you may need to format your card to FAT16 to flash this rom.

If you have any problem flashing my rom, you can reply this thread or PM me.

In wndows fat means fat16.
The WWE English rom(20080405b85) can display CJK glyph as well because it contains a Chinese font "sunfon.ac3". The Chinese special edition is all Chinese and intended for Chinese speaking people only. I recommended the WWE for you.

SYS means Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1's official features.
BUGFIX means fixing previous bugs.
1. SYS: Add VOIP support, that is Internet calling. (Very useful for someone, I don't have a chance to test)
2. SYS: Add Windows Update support (Not very useful by now though)
3. SYS: Add Windows catalog support. It is not useful by now. It is the extra service of Microsoft. So it will be useful in the future.
4. BUGFIX: Windows Live is now working. But I don't test it throughly.
5. BUGFIX: The left softkey of "Pictures & Video" is now "Camera".

Hi Helloworld,

(1) I do use the voip every now and then, for now, I use SJphone (better) or Fring. So be nice to have native sip call support, just hope that it can utilise the earpiece instead of using headset for voip call, which I doubt anyway.

While your are busy improving the wm6.1, may I ask whether it is possible to add bluetooth DUN back on the b36 by installing .cab or registry hack without reflashing? As BT DUN connect so easily with my Mac, to connect I just turn on the BT on both device and hit the "connect" button.

Can you tell us whether the camera is completely fixed now on the wm6.1? What about restore backup from wm6 onto wm6.1? any potential harms?

Also glad to see more and more people starting to use your ROM. People always know where to find good stuff.

Thanks,

I don't know how to use the native VoIP program. It says my mobile operator does not support VoIP and turn off by default. Maybe it is for 3G or something like that.

I will upload WM6 dun support cab. I don't have a chance to test it . You may try it out. I tested the BT DUN in WM 6.1 it works fine.

Helloworld1,

I've tested the WM6.1 rom for several hours now.

These are the following i encountered:

1. Contacts name are all replace by "Unnamed" after first soft reset
2. Can't import contacts from SIM card like we did normally in WM5
3. where's ipaq audio? o.0 haha
4. How do i change the default input fonts? it's looks weird... ><
5. And is there a way to change the sms back to the original look? instead of messenger style kind? It's kinda irritating when i'm trying to delete individual messages...guess it's one of the cons for WM6.1

Solutions for individual questions.

1. Contacts name are all replace by "Unnamed" after first soft reset
S: it seems PIM backup does not restore correctly. Note, you may wait a long while after PIM backup restore. If you can not get it right, you may need to Activesync to get your contacts recovered.

2. Can't import contacts from SIM card like we did normally in WM5
S: There is a simmgr program I don't include in this version of ROM, you can download in this forum. Search around!

3. where's ipaq audio? o.0 haha
S: There no working ipaq audio in WM6.1, but there is a program called SRS WOW HD, you can try it out.

4. How do i change the default input fonts? it's looks weird... ><
S: What font are you referring to? Tahoma is the default font. If you notice the letters are too large in the input panel, goto settings -> input -> select keyboard, select small keys. That would restore the original appearance of the keyboard input method.

5. And is there a way to change the sms back to the original look? instead of messenger style kind? It's kinda irritating when i'm trying to delete individual messages...guess it's one of the cons for WM6.1
S: There is a way:
Change the following registry key:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setting s\OEM]
"SMSInboxThreadingDisabled"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settin gs]

I don't try the cab. Try this to see if it works. The Bluetooth DUN works fine in my Linux there no extra setting needed in Windows Mobile.

1) To enable this hack, download and reg file attached registry key into your mobile device using Resco Registry.

2) Download zip file and copy them to Windows folder using Resco Explorer.

3) Soft reset the device

Hopefully this time it works.

Thanks very much to helloworld1 for making these clean roms.

I've been testing the new 6.1 rom a bit and have come across the following issues:
1. Windows Mobile 6.1 theme has flat task bar (no 3d look). Other themes are OK. Is it supposed to be like this? I add Green Neon Swirl theme anyway so no big deal.
2. Can't add own Certificate Authority (CA) using a .cer file (Need for Exchange sync). Seems to be a problem with other 6.1 roms as well. Haven't been able to find a fix but a workaround is to export the certificate's key from the registry before upgrading to 6.1 then import the key after.

(Note to Kusanagi and anyone else: dotfred's TaskManager has very good registry editor which can export and import. http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm )

On the plus side:
Bluetooth A2DP working great! No micro pauses which I could never completely fix in WM6 roms. Haven't had to adjust any settings either. Has MS finally fixed their stack?

The theme problem is not my problem. The theme in emulator is just like this. See screenshot of the WM6.1 official emulator.

The certification problem persist in most WM6.1 rom.
I do some registry tweak on Bluetooth A2DP, so it pauses less frequently.

But after i soft reset the device, the contacts will be shown as " Unnamed ". Only applies to sim contacts.

Any idea what is going wrong? or iszit happening to me only ? *gulps* o.o

4. BUGFIX: The txt file linking is now pointed to pword.

Oh dear helloworld1,

Please dun change the HP ipaq bootscreen. IMO it's best if a HP ipaq starts up with a ipad bootscreen rather than an O2 atom one.

Anyway, regarding the threaded sms in WM6.1.
I had to use PHMregedit and add the keys on my own

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setting s\OEM\SMSInboxThreadingDisabled

with the binary value set to 1

Then i had to make sure not to soft reset for around 5-10mins for WM to save the registry frm the cache into the rom.

Hope this help some of those who prefer the traditional sms format.

Hi,

Unfortunately it didn't work, my Mac can detect the dial-up network profile, when i tried to connect it just failed, if i tried to enable GPRS then tried to hit the connect button on the Mac, it will disconnect my GPRS, then prompted connection failed.

Be nice to have it going because i'm going to Gold Coast for a week this coming Saturday, wmwifirouter works, but it stuffed up my wifi setting once, and had to restore from backup again.

Any idea?

Thanks,

K

Yeah... that's what i thought too, when i press "crash clean up" or something like that, settings seem restored, but i just couldn't connect to my home router again no matter what, right after restore, everything fine again... hmm...??

Anyway, if I'm desperate, I can always use my wife's Samsung i320N and just swap the sim card, only because I have unlimited GPRS usage :D I would storm out to buy an HSDPA device if the unlimited usage applies to 3.5G.

Anyway, since wm6.1 BT DUN confirmed is working, I'll wait till all the glitches are sorted then I'll flash.

So camera all perfect in wm6.1?

It can zoom in/out, but it is not as convenient as opera mini. Press and hold stylus in a web page, there is a Zoom Out option. See it zooms, click on the area you want to zoom in, it will zoom in.

That's strange. I have zoom options. Did you install some 3rd party apps like pie plus? It is known to disable the zoom function.

I am just wondering whether other 6828 ROMs in this forum has the Bluetooth PAN working? Such as NHOCBANME's ROM and others, I might suss out other posts to find out.

Say if they have this feature working, do you think it's possible to compare the diffence between ROMs and pick out the working bits and patch onto yours?

It seems like a common problem for all HP ROMs then...

Just not sure what I have done wrong when doing this DUN re-enabler...

I doubt there's any difference in the BT part between wm6 and 6.1... hmm...

BTW, is compact framework included in your 6.1?

The BT stack is different in WM6.1, it support A2dp device better. There is no other major difference though.

I'm not sure whether u've noticed. But the input fonts used when typing in "Messaging"/new text msg (means the font of the message being typed on screen) , is different from the normal tahoma font normally seen in text messages. And the atom hard reset screen, we only see it once when flashing right? Do we see it everytime we soft reset the phone?

K

No no no, you all misunderstand my description of the update. I never change boot screen, it is still HP one. HP wm5 rom does not have a hard reset screen. The atom one is the only best choice. Also the b85 rom hard reset screen is a modified Chinese one, I just restore it.

That's alright, you've already given me much help.

No I haven't tried Windows, I suspect it may actually works. The reason I say this is because on Mac it's kinda half work, my mac could detect the dial-up networking profile, but when I tried to connect, it will disconnect my already connected gprs, then my Mac will prompt "connection failed", if my gprs wasn't connected at the first place, it will do nothing and just prompt "connection failed".

However with my wife's Samsung i320N (wm5), my Mac detected the phone as "Mobile Phone" instead of "Dial-up networking" profile, I can get it up and running in 3 seconds. Not sure what's the difference between the two.

To be honest, I'm reluctant to go back to Windows...

edit: BTW, I'm still on wm6 b39, not 6.1, may be something is broken within wm6.

Thanks for the suggestion, I am never quite sure about this, some programs could scatter their settings through out the registry?

I will do ROM upgrade less frequent, at this point, there is no major benefits for me to get onto wm6.1, so I will wait for the "perfect" clean 6.1 ROM coming from you :)

May be you can give the BT PAN (not DUN) issue a challenge?

Oh, I still have to go back to wm5 to upgrade the radio... duh... always nervous about doing this kind of thing (lack of confidence).

BTW, under Bugfix of point 7 on your first thread, what does STK stand for or mean?

Most softwares will store user settings in that place. You can judge if it is the user settings and have a try backing up.

You can read the release note of 0.34 radio. It is really not very beneficial. Staying with 0.33 radio is ok. STK means SIM toolkit, that is a set of tools included in your sim card. Of course the STK can not run natively, a loader is needed. The one in b85 rom is broken, and I have fixed it in new version.

3-soft-reset problem, emmmmmmmm. That is the problem when I uses my wm6 series rom after updating the radio. Anyway, I don't encounter such problem in my WM 6.1 ROM. The stability is fine. The only stability issue is that the 3rd party today plug-in and input method can not initial correctly after soft reset in a very few case. Reset again will solve this problem.

My rom and nhocbanme's uses different base sources, so maybe you can have a try of my rom.

Hi Helloworld,

Good news! I got BT DUN working with my MAC finally, it wasn't working before because I followed the instructions from my carrier's website, and is completely different from what I need, plus I need to download a modem script from a some website.

There is one problem however, it will disconnect my GPRS, so the little "G" icon will disappear from above the signal bar, and my MAC will connect direct to the phone's GPRS without showing the "G" icon.

Because of this, SPB GPRS monitor won't be tracking the data too... hmm...

When I tried to do activesync over GPRS while my Mac is online, it will ask me to hang up the phone first, is this the same as yours?

If anyone wants to setup your wm6 6828 to connect to a Mac through BT DUN, let me know, I'll make a new post for this. But this only applies to Optus Australia though, as every carrier is different.

Glad hearing that. And yes this is the problem of dun profile, it will occupy the gprs connection without using the system wide connection, instead the host computer do all the connection work. So the system wide gprs and dun connection cannot coexist. That is a reason why ms drops dun since wm5 aku3.

you can type "g" in sms to see whether it has changed. The serif "g" means the tweak did not work while the sans serif one means the tweak works. Also you can turn cleartype on to get more visual appealing font.

I can't seem to update my RW6815. I tried the update using a 1Gb memory card and the bootloader trick, but after a few minutes of seeing the bootloaderscreen (PBL1.0.5) it just continues to load WM5.

I'm running 2003 server on my pc, and trying to update through the pc way has no results either. Do you háve to use XP?

Also my iPaq is a dutch version, can that be part of the problem?

Thnx for your reply in advance!

Most of the 1GB sd cards don't work when u use it for flashing. Try one with a smaller capacity like 512 and below.. i tried 1gb and it doest work..but when i slotted in 512... it was successful.

This is an incompatibility problem of wm 6.1. Some input method can not be loaded. Also softwares like spb pocket plus will prevent the im getting loaded in wm 6.1.

Hi,

If you have read the instructions, I suggest you read again, cos you missed a lot of things.

First, you don't need step 2.

Second, step 3 soft reset is wrong, you need to get into boot loader mode, not soft-reset. To do that, hold down left and right "-" soft keys, at the same time poke the soft-reset hole with your stylus. Then make sure you do not interrupt the process, wait 13-15 min it will clean boot, then voila!

Make sure you fully charge your phone first.

Try TouchPal, I think it's the quickest input ever once you get the hang of it, and it is free for the standard version, I don't think pro version has much advantages over the standard.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Sorry, type error. I did do the reset (hold the 2 '-' keys down and poke the reset hole). It did goes into the boot loader screen. I waited for 10 - 15 minute and it still boot up as normal wm5.

I have tries again but still the same. Maybe it didn't readh the miniSD? Any setting I need to change to make it read from miniSD during boot up?

I just copied the diskimg.nb0 into miniSD and reboot.

Not working?! I have no idea then, in that case I probably won't move over to wm6.1 so quickly, as TouchPal is my default input, and do quite a bit of texting on the run without using the stylus.

Well, I just re-flashed my rw6828 once again to try your newest ROM and it's working great! It's faster and more stable than any other WM6.1 ROM I've used.

Thank you once again, for giving our devices the updates that HP couldn't/wouldn't provide. ;)

Hi atwcc,

as I read at any
threat in this forum, flash by pc have more risk, the helloworld1's ROM is design to flash by mini SD, so you don't need to mdify it, just copy to the root of storage card and go to BL. you can read the instruction at the first page. Good Luck.

Can you elaborate more on format it by PC with it inside the PPC. What do you mean 'inside the PPC'? I slot it into multi-card reader and format it using FAT. Is this correct?

Maybe the pda is not booting from the miniSD? Any specific sequence to flash? e.g. press the 2 '-' first then only poke the reset hole then only insert miniSD card? Or just reset to boot loader with miniSD card inserted? Both way tried. Still cannot.

OK. I finally manage to flash the pda rom...after 4 days of trying....

The miniSD card I use is Tomato brand (1GB). Don't use Apacer brand, it won't work. I ended up bought 2 new card. Now, I got 3 miniSD card (256MB-new-Apacer, 1GB-existing-Pendrive and 1GB-new-Tomato) but pda only got 1 slot...

1. Chinese Input CE Star from Mobem hangs the device. As installation requires reset, upon reset the device hangs at Request Phone PIN screen.
2. When you talk on the phone with its speaker phone feature, then you hang up. The speaker phone icon is still on the task bar. When you make 2nd call, the call is not in speaker phone mode but the icon still there.
3. I'm from Malaysia and using Maxis service for my phone. There are 2 settings for this service provider, Maxis GPRS and Maxis 3G. The setting for 3G (Maxis 3G) exists in b46 but not in b92. Also, the MMS setting is also not configured according to service provider setting.

yes, no big deal to me as i hv all parameters for manual config. i meant to suggest if future release can include the config files from b46 rom. :)

First, the laud speaker icon isn't here after I end the call. And after anther phone call, I need to long press "call" again to activate the speaker mode as well as the icon.

My WM6 clean rom uses the atom's auto configuration, but it pop up an error after configed. In order to fix this bug, I replaced it with the one in HP 6828 WM5 ROM and have no such problem. I can upload a better auto configuration.(use it in setting panel and after done just delete it to save space).

No you can not do that because the device driver is different, mostly because of three drivers: ddi.dll,pxa272keyboard_us.dll,wavedev.dll. Maybe if you replace there files with atom's, this rom may work. but unfortunately I do not have a atom, so I cannot test it myself. I can replace drivers for you but will you do some volunteer testing job for me?

I tried that before and get exactly the same message as yours. Ended up I flash with miniSD card. Use Tomato or Kingston brand (<= 1GB). They have proven working.

But I didn't use RUU, I thought RUU is only needed if you want to downgrade the BL from 1.00.5 to 1.0.1?
So how did you do it? do you download the original IPAQ rom then replace the RUU with the one form this thread?
Thanks

Can I extract wm5 rom update which include hpRUU, then replace the hpRUU with the one froom this thread then rename the rom which had been added 12 byte to diskimage_ver.nbf?
hpRUU seems to be lookinig for file with *.nbf

You should use attached atom RUU, not hp's. atom's only works for 1.01 BL. You will need to downgrade BL.

Just finished updating my RW6818 via PC (RUU mode), Had a hard time flashing via memory card. So i took the liberty of uploading the 20080411b95Update9 with the added codes and modified RUU. These are the actual files that I've use, it worked for me but no guarantees.

ENTER BOOT LOADER MODE (press both softkey (-) (-) and push reset) - your pc should detect your phone in bootloader mode.

1. Unzip the package below to c:\windows\temp (replace all)
2. run Device Software Update Utility.exe from c:\windows\temp
3. Click on Update Item "All" use cursor keys to change it to "OS ONLY" then hit next
**** SELECT "OS ONLY", if you cant change it to "OS ONLY" DONT PROCEED!!!
4. It should detect your device as Model 0 etc.
5. Flash your device and wait for it to finish flashing after 15-30mins.

Note: You should have 1.01 BL else it wont work.

Finally I manage to get my 6828 flashed using RUU.
I had BL 1.0.1
I use the RUU for atom downloaded from another thread (I think it is PDAVIET).
- unzip all the file to c:\windows\temp
- padded 20080411 with addheader.jar and copy to c:\windows\temp
- run the "Device Software Update Utility.exe"
- click on update item, and use arrow key to select "OS ONLY"
- select next and wait 30 minutes for all to complete
- black screen appear on the device saying it is cold booting. This take a long while
- I can see the win 6.1 screen, and let it complete booting, took a long time.
All happy.

Note: if RUU hang while detecting your device, kill it from the task manager and start again.
The first time I click on camera apps, it hang, and works the second time after reboot.
Thanks helloworld1, now I can use my phone's smart dialler properly, the whole reason I did this is to get my phone to work the way it should with smart dialler.

Any chance to get the instruction to cook the rom? I was thinking to add all my favourite apps as OEM.

Hi helloworld1,

I had successfully installed the latest WM6.1 rom for my IPAQ 6828 and it works fine but I found out that I couldn't use ActiveSync as well as a modem. I'm using Vista and it needs a proper driver such as Windows CE USB and Windows USB modem in order to work just like my previous WM5.0.

I wonder if there are driver available for these? What about ActiveSync? Do you have a workaround on this?

The rest are so far okay ... :)

Keep it up.

You mean modem link? It works well in windows xp with activesync 4.5. So it is M$'s fault not including the driver in vis. I do not know what to do , you can use bt dun instead.

I have also noticed that battery life is slightly shorter but only slightly, about 10 to 15 minutes shorter on my device. But I do not know what cause it and very tough to debug because it will take me 6 hours to judge whether the battery life is longer. There is not any big problem in the current build, so new update has not been proposed.

There is two possible way to increase battery life.
1. Install a battery saving patch.
2. Open activesync on the device, add a fake source server, change schedule both to manual, delete the fake source server, use task manager to completely close activesync.

A dictionary cause the gprs problem!! Very incredible. The radio should be updated separately, it can not be included in a diskimg.nb0. Btw, updating using pc can flash the radio along with my rom though.

You need to launch your Command Prompt, by going to Start -> Run and key in cmd. A black dos-like window should appear and then you key in the rest of the text. If you don't really understand, best if u find someone with more IT knowledge to help you. It is easy to brick ur phone if u're not that good with IT.
