Sotf powermanegementpatch unintal with b142 ?
I am confused about what you mean?

I don't quite get what you mean, you want to setup yahoo mail and gmail using the default poutlook but it won't work with wi-fi connection, right?
I don't have wi-fi access right now, so I can not test it. Did you use a proxy when using GPRS?
it could be happened if the wifi speed connection is very slow, I tried at several wifi location and the device tried to connect by gprs if the wifi very slow, the speed of wifi is not always good althought the signal is good, it's depent on the wifi provider. if you want to know about the wifi speed, install some app like wifi router.
wifi work fine on mine.

hi
i've been using the other wm6.1 rom by NHOCBANME and have ran into a bluetooth incoming call issue (theres a loud noise coming from the headset, making it unusable/uncomfortable)...
I was trying to flash to this rom, but I have ran into a problem, it's complaining that Create File diskimage_Ver.nb0 fail..
attached:
1. the create file diskimage error while trying to flash to this rom.
2. the error screen when i try to downgrade from NHOCBANME wm6.1 to 5.0 using patched hpruu.exe (i think the problem might be the model ID?)
Please advise.
thanks!

I have had this problem before, at the time no one other than myself had this, see these posts:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2214807#post2214807
But I was on b39 though.
Solution, use SPB Backup to backup your current state, then Hard reset, then restore again, finally before turning on your bluetooth, make sure you delete all paired devices, then re-pair your headset and see if it works. That worked for me though. Alternatively use Helloworld's latest ROM found on 1st page.

i tried:
1. hard reset + spb backup restore
2. hard reset
no luck. :(

Sorry to hear that, I remember what I've done now... I hard-reset, re-installed everything from scratch, but I took precaution to backup very often, at some stage when bt headset is playing up again, i just restored to a backup a day just before it happened.
I think b39 ROM although it is very stable, it does have some very annoying quirks, such as the camera flicker, bt headset (same as your prob.), and a file call MN1RIL.TXT sitting on device root folder that is getting bigger and bigger until space has run out.
I have been reluctant to upgrade due to the hassles having to re-install everything, but I gave up at the end and jumped on the b135 (latest at the time), it has been very very good, only caveat is battery life is amazingly short.
Try upgrade to the latest 6.1 ROM available from Helloworld, should be good.
edit: question... did you get that bt headset problem even straight after hard-reset? or it only happens after some uses may be days or months?

K
the problem occurs even after straight hard reset.. first thing i did was calibrate the screen, then pair bluetooth. noise issue remains.
anyway, trying to flash to the latest 6.1 ROM from Helloworld, but this is the original problem, i'm getting a cryptic error that says "Create File diskimage_Ver.nb0 fail..", but that file is generated by the BufferAddHeader.bat .. so i have no idea whats going on.
thanks K for all your help so far!
ps. i've tried 6828-WM61-20080614-b110.tar.bz2 and 6828-WM61-20080701-b142.tar.bz2

You can use Atom's RUU to flash my ROM (need 1.01 BL).
You can use sd card to flash my ROM.
You can also flash back to WM5 with SD card.
You can flash back to WM5 using Atom's RUU by running add header program first to the diskimg.nb0.(need 1.01 BL)

Hi,
Nice to see "Romote Desktop" back, and it would be better if we can have "Java / Esmertec Jbed" and "Pocket Music Bundle" built in ROM.
btw, I'm using "Update 14: 20080623,b135", it's great! Thanks for your great efforts!

OK Helloworld, I found another issue with bluetooth DUN on b135, I am not sure what the difference between b39 and b135 in bluetooth DUN, I just couldn't get data to flow.
Here's what happened, I could connect to GPRS via Bluetooth DUN no problem, internal IP assigned, but couldn't get external IP, and I can see constant outgoing data, but no incoming data...
I have no problem with internet access or push mail on the device itself.
I have tried to removed all settings then added back in one by one, same result.
I have tried to un-pair and re-pair bluetooth no problem.
My carrier doesn't use proxy etc, I had it working on b39, but I have no joy on b135 with the same settings.
Any idea?
thanks,

I created BufferAddHeader.Bat but never tried it. It is just a shortcut instead of remembering & typing the commands.
Anyway I've not tried it because I switch camp from b135 to NHOCBANME 2.03.03a temporary but when I tried I hit the same problem.
From all your error screenshots it looks like these files are missing
1. EBOOT.nb0
2. ExtendedRom.img
3. nova_pda_033105.mot
4. vl1d_pda_Ver.mot
and
5. execute DSUU from C:\Windows\Temp folder (PCUpdate + ROM + missing files)

Try a SD card of 1GB or less, people have reported problems using anything larger. I use a 1GB card in my 6828 with no problems. One other thing, make sure there is nothing else on the card - you should only have the diskimg.nb0 on there.
Hope this helps. - Oops, sorry, didn't see earlier post, good that your problem is fixed. :-)

Hi,
I've always used SBSH PhoneWeaver that can automatically change background light based on profiles, so in the evening and in the night it makes a lower backlight (that could save more battery!). Now that I have your rom (but the 6.0 wm6 version) PhoneWeaver doesn't work anymore with backlight. Is there a way to make it compatible? Maybe there are some files from the original hp's rom that could be restored (the ones that control backlight).
I really hope it could be done because I was a beta tester of PhoneWeaver and the developer worked hard to make it compatible with rw6815!! I think it is a great function.

Cool, I'll upgrade mine then, there is still a program I have yet to re-apply for reg. code, which changed randomly even after a hard reset (annoying).
Speaking of bugs... b135 bluetooth DUN didn't work for me, the Macbook managed to connect to the modem no problem, however there's no external IP address assigned, therefore there's only outgoing but no incoming traffics.
The exactly same bluetooth DUN setting worked on the b36, I have no idea why it isn't working now, has anything changed in bluetooth DUN since b36? I had to use HTC network configurator to get my gprs going after flashing to b135, possible something to do with this?
Any known troubles with restoring SPB Backup from b135 to b142?
BTW, this post has shot pass 1000 threads without even knowing!! from just a few threads to start with, that tells the popularity of Clean ROM. Well done.

I haven't tested the spb because I haven't backup before flashing and do a fresh installation afterwards. Testing the bluetooth DUN can not be done recently because I forgot to take the bluetooth adapt back from my univ.

It is effective for all the 6.1 ROM because I have never planned to include the registry tweaks in 6.1 roms. The tweaks can be done manually by setting the power saving option to several devices through registry.

I have tested it. There is no such problem with b142 rom and windows xp sp2. I uses the xp's default stack and drivers. Then create a dial up connection, select the bt modem and user name. It can get ip correctly and browser without problems.
1000+ post party! Ha ha, interesting! There are really less than 700 replies because I have posted more than 350 threads.
Been to China 7 years ago in April, it was already quite warm at the time, it's winter now over here in OZ, rains everyday, bbbrrrr... cold and wet, yuk.
Thanks for reporting, I will try upgrade to b142 with SPB Backup and see what will happen.
Since you are the man in this post, you will need to answer most of the questions here, so it is not surprising that your replies are taking 1/3 of the total threads.
Party? no party for you yet... except the rest of us. You still have a mission remember? -reaching the holy grail of perfect 6828 Clean ROM **whip! whip!** ;)
Thanks,
K

The ultimate goal is right in my mind. I hope the bug section will finally vanish. Ha ha, very impressive but very hard to achieve. Even hp who has source code of the os still have some bugs like failing to call out an input method and shifting screen by 10 pixels.
Anyway I will achieve my personal best in this rom.

I'm using this atm, because spb plus is playing up for unknown reason.
SPB MS provides a simple interface with a couple of screen transition effects, it is more of an eye candy than function, it is getting more mature compared to when it was first released, and you can download lots of skins for it right from this forum somewhere, and they just look gorgeous.
I am a very picky person, so I found MS still has lots of inconsistencies throughout. But I don't mind using it as a simple touch screen interface.
Keep an eye out for Vito Winterface, this software is just released and I think it has potential.

Helloworld,
I just upgraded to b142, I've done an initial test with bluetooth DUN after clean boot, it worked!! So I proceed to restore from SPB Backup using ROM upgrade mode, everything seemed fine, and bluetooth DUN still worked!! In fact I'm typing this thread via bluetooth DUN. So in conclusion, bluetooth DUN in b135 may be broken.
I will continue to monitor this new ROM and post back later.

Have been playing SPB MS around for a couple of hours. Like it but would be ideal with a bit more function (as mentioned by helloworld1).
I've been using WM5 out of the box for 2 years because I find SPB PP too crowded but am craving for X to close which MS don't have:(
Kusunagi, what do you use for this and what others do you use?

Hi,
SPB PP crowded? or did you mean bloated? with PP you can simplify the today plugin to just 1 or 2 tabs if you think it is crowded or selectively disable some of its features, but if you meant bloated, yes I think the same too.
I have been using PP since the first day I had my 6828, until I upgraded to 6.1 which caused some weird issues, so I had no better choice but to use SPB MS, I felt the same way too, not much to the functions except eye candy, but after using it for more than a month, I think I'm used to it now and I don't actually mind it.
I tried the trial version of Vito Winterface v1.0 before I flashed to b142, I actually quite like the simplicity of it, but the app has some bugs and it failed to remember my customised settings after soft-reset, so I'll wait for the bug fixed version. You can google it.
I actually don't like the "X" button to completely close my running programs, as I tend to switch between apps a lot, since I don't run PP anymore, I use a free program called Task Switcher by Fdcsoft, you can selectively to switch or close or close all running apps, it's a very tiny app you can install and assign to a hardware button.
Hope that helps.

Hi Helloworld,
I found that the push email is not working, I can manually sync with the exchange server no problem.
When I set my sync schedule to "As item arrive", normally it will initialise the gprs connection right away, even if I manually close the gprs connection later, gprs will re-connect itself in a few seconds (invoke by activesync), this should be the normal case.
With b142 it will not re-connect (gprs connection hasn't dropped), usually the word "Connected" is displayed when activesync is keeping a heartbeat with the exchanged server.
But after awhile when the phone has gone into standby mode, activesync will lose it's heartbeat with the exchange server, and activesync will show "Synchronized: dd/mm/yy hr/min am/pm" so I will have to manually press the button to sync, then the heartbeat comes back and then the cycle begin again...
Any idea what is causing this? I have used Schap's advance config tool to enable every power saving, could this be the culprit?
edit: I will do some more test here, just want to make sure it is not carrier related.
One more thing... after using SPB Backup ROM upgrade restore, quite a few things are broken, especially those .lnk files sitting inside Windows folder, and SRS WOW 3D no longer worked too, but I will try re-install it later to see. The rest are OK though.

I configure the push mail through mail2web service. There is no problem at all. I see your problem. It is because the spb does not fully restore something. You should delete the server and reconfigure it.
The srs should work without problem. I have test it several times. You may need to do a soft reset after installation.
What'bout SPB PP this time?

I'm using mail2web as well, the more I test, the result becomes inconsistent, one minute it worked and the next it didn't...errr
I tried to send myself emails, in a few tests, the emails came in after 5 seconds I clicked on the send button on my desktop computer, but in other tests, the sent emails will eventually come in, but can be as long as 15 minutes, I have checked my mail2web account, the emails were already there waiting long before they get pushed. hmm....
I haven't noticed this until recently, I can only remember on wm5 and b39, push mail was always instant (almost), but not 15minutes...
I will try to remove server and see what happen.
Oh... SRS failed to work only after restore, I believe it will work if I re-install it, it seems a lot of things SPB Backup ROM upgrade mode failed to restore.
But in general, the device is running pretty well even after a dodgy restore, I think the b142 is generally very good, it's just I am being too busy (lazy) to re-install everything from scratch.
SPB PP? I have not had a chance to test it yet, is it running OK on yours?

push mail arrives in 30-55 seconds in my test. But in b39 times, when I use it more frequently, I noticed that some mails never arrives before you manually sync it because of the network problem.
spb pp is always working fine(b92 is an exception) since my first pocket pc(2003).
If one day you feel froggy, you can reinstall all the app. I am interested in serialized automatic installation now and want to make a little program or script so that I can reinstall bunch of app at once.

Ok, push mail seems fine, I think it was caused by the network congestion in my area or something, however I always thought that WM5 ROM push mail was more responsive, again could be a network issue.
I thought spb pp was really cool as it provides multiple tabs that contains all my programs for fast access, but to be honest, out of the 20-40 or so apps on my ppc, I hardly use them at all!!
So if I were to re-install everything again, it will be only a few that I need most, an have the others in .cab on storage card with serial stored in my spb wallet, so I can install them when I really need them. The features in PP I use most are Alt-Tab switch assigned to camera button (hold for camera), the file unzip and file properties.
Speaking of spb wallet, which is OK, I was using Crypto Card which is free, very good and light weight, unfortunately it refused to run on b39, therefore I had to spend $ on commercial app. Not sure has anyone tested this app on the latest ROM?
To me at the moment the only con of this latest ROM is the battery life with push mail on, battery drop 7% in about 1.5 hour on standby with zero usage, so will barely last me 12 hours on standby.
edit: about your potential script/app for bulk install, it's a good idea, but can you do this for just about any apps? as I believe the apps people use on this thread are quite different, it'll be nice to have something like apt install or rpm -install in the .nix world.

Push mail drains more power in the 6.1 ROM so I do not use that since then. But the MS's "What's New" says push mail uses less power in 6.1. Interesting.
I think cab works a little like rpm package. I ripped the cab file of every program I have installed and store them in the card. The most annoying thing of cab file is that you need to click where to install, which halt the batch process.
What I want to make is a program that will generate a batch file that install all selected cab file at once.

emm... I dunno, for push mail to work, it needs to maintain a "heartbeat" with the exchange server, it's kind of like the "keep alive", i think when in a situation where the gprs signal is weak, the phone will increase power to the radio and hence the increase of power consumption... also the power management within the OS plays an important part too, and I think wm6.1 failed to do, or may be wm6.1 isn't optimised for the dated hardware of 6828? Just my guess.
Oh? can you guide me how to rip .cab files out of exe? I heard someone said that just rename .exe to .zip then extract with winzip?
I can vaguely remember coming across a thread talking about by changing the registry you can bypass the install location prompt, may be there is a way?

yeah, your battery last a bit longer than mine.
I never bought my battery, it the original HP battery that came with my 6828 when I bought it new, so it's 2 years old now.
When I think about it, your 6828 and mine are running on the same ROM, so I can say that hardware wise they are identical, so they should perform exactly the same, that said my battery can be as good as yours or just about as good as anyone, the only variations are battery age and the radio strength in the location where the phone is used, and the installed softwares.

Try this one to extract all the content out of a cab file. After opening the file, press the "XML" button and the "Extract" then "Extract ALL".
My battery life with push mail is 7.5 hr for 20%. It can last for more than one day with push mail on. I remembered that on wm6.0, it is about 1 hr for 2% - 3%, which uses less power.
For my OEM battery, it is so bad that it can only last 2 hr when powered on because I have drained out the battery for several time, that would seriously damage the battery.
Anyway, I think 6828 is not overkilled. See, the performance of wm 6.1 is much batter than wm5. It may even run wm7 according to the leaked M$'s reference hardware.

Thanks for the file, however I thought this is going to extract .exe into .cab? As you probably know, I am using a Mac, therefore with .exe installer I'll have to borrow someone's Windows box, very inconvenient.
BTW, do you have any issues with WM5storage with your latest ROM? The copy of Softick Card Export trial version is going to expire in 6 days, I am reluctant to spend anymore money...

That app extracts the files out of a cab file. If you want cab package of a app, please make a list and I will send you what I have.
If you need to extract a cab out of a packed exe file, the best practice is using windows to install that app again and before confirming the location to install, copy the cab file out of /windows/appmgr/appinstall

Refer to 2nd thread on the 1st page. There are 2 version of DSUU. 1 which you can choose what to flash & the other need not. REMEMBER either 1 will require certain file(s) together in C:\Windows\Temp folder before flashing. Good Luck.
PS : Suggest using PCUpdate (also from 2nd thread)
1. BufferAddHeader work faster than AddHeader
2. This version of DSUU require 4 missing files

OK Thanks BesFen, I will try to use the configurator.
.
I also stumbled on one of the file, that is Radio.zip.
I think it is supposely to upgrade from radio 0.33 to 0.34, correct me if I am wrong.
1. My radio is still on 0.33, should I need to upgrade and what is the advantage
2.I have download the Radio zip file, After unzipping there are two files, what should I do.
Help needed, BesFen or anyone
Thanks
The safest method to upgrade radio is using hp's official update package with patched hp's ruu.

Helloworld1,
I am now on b142,
So I have to downgrade to WM5, upgrade radio thru HP update package, then I flash back to b142 again ?
In your opinion is it worth the upgrade ( radio 0.33 to 0.34).
Thanks

Yes.
I think I have posted what is new with 0.34 radio. It is not worthy because the changes are very unimportant. If you do not have problems with the current, do not update it.

Hi,
Yes correct, upgrade through HP update package, but you must replace the hpRUU.zip found in first page, just follow the instruction on page 1.
It is not worth the hassle to upgrade, but I have done it myself so I can stop thinking about it. The radio upgrade didn't make any difference really.

If you read on the first page, this is one of the bug exists on all 6828 ROMs, the wifi is turned on by itself upon reset in some rare occasions, to fix it, all you need to do is soft-reset and hope/pray it doesn't turn on by itself again, just keep doing the soft-reset thing.

I flashed my 6828 ROM to the lastest 20080701b142 and i experienced poor response or no response from the storage card occasionally. Sometimes it will even lead to making the device freeze  . Soft reset doesnt help either.:(
Anyone experience the same issue with me or is there a problem with my storage card? I got no issue with previous WM5.. Should i flash my rom to 200806146110 since its recommended?
Appreciate all advice.

Umm... I think I barely understand...
First what exactly is your device? 6828?
From what I can understand is that the "wifi connected" icon is displayed regardless of the wifi is actually on or not?
Second, is the blue LED flashing? can you test after hard-reset? or too much trouble for you?

As far as I know and what I can (may be not) understand from your question, the wifi icon on windows task bar should not be there when turn off, after turn on the antenna animation will appear and attempt to connect, animation become static depends on it is actually connected or not.

Using either AddHeader or BufferAddHeader found inside PCUpdate.zip from 1st thread (strongly recommended) will automatically generate diskimage_Ver.nb0 from diskimg.nb0 for flashing via PC. No renaming required at all.
Yes, you can then copy diskimage_Ver.nb0 over to NHOCBANME's DSUU package or vice versa.

Sorry for bringing you in then leaving you behind :p
Nothing really, there's no known issues with the MS for me, but it just the way the program is layout and organise things are not quite suitable for me, I want FAST access to programs, no more than 3 button presses, with MS I found that I have to go through many spinning cubes, sliding effects to get to an app. While it is nice to see the special effects, but I got annoyed at the times when I had to get to certain things very quickly, it really depends on individual, so you may find yourself like it.
Helloworld please read too:
I'm now back to SPB PP, see my previous post, I have just encountered a problem where PP changed or defaulted many program icons to a generic one, see attachment, I dunno why, but reduce the icon to small then enlarge again will bring back the original icon, very annoying, that didn't happen before on b39. Anyone got clues?
I have so far tried SPB PP, MS, Vito Winterface, and Pointui. I found that:
(1) PP is my favorite so far, but has many glitches on b142/wm6.1, and very bloated and slow.
(2) MS, it works but... can be much better, has many beautiful skins.
(3) Winterface, a bit premature, but definitely has potential, I will keep an eye out for this one.
(4) Pointui, extremely smooth and responsive, but badly organised, program list just doesn't work, kinetic scroll nice but you will find yourself scrolling pass what you need and have to scroll back and forth... very very bad if you are doing this as you walk.
There are many more options out there which I haven't tried yet, anyone got good recommendations?

I know onenote can not invoke camera but you can no say no app can. At least "Pictures & Videos" can invoke camera.
Smart scroll is working fine on my device.
SPB PP is not so slow if you configure it proper. Generally speaking, do not use system info indicator like memory card and etc. I uses only battery indicator. Also "Smart Scroll", "Buttons" and "Safe Mode" are disabled on my device.
A soft reset will help you out if the icon cans not load proper. Also maybe these app are in card, insert the card in and soft reset.
SPB should update the program so that it get compatible better with 6.1 ROMs.

That was my experience, and I think Pcitures & Videos has a direct camera call button (soft key)which you can start the camera directly, but with MMS and Onenote which has the "Insert" photo or video from camera, this feature doesn't work. So I was only suspecting this is a system wide bug (hence suspecting any apps that use the "insert" call to the camera won't work), but of course you're the programming guru here while I am just a user, so your correction is more than welcome :)

So what you are saying is you have the same generic app icon problem as well?
From what I learn from googling around, it seems that PP is loaded before the SD card, so all apps residing on the Storage Card gets a generic icon, hmm...

No worries... Agree with you needing more buttons to get to certain apps & some appear more than 1 place but nevertheless will stick on to it.
Few issues. Have you come across them & how do you get over it.
1. Sync weather over cradle. Already remove the tick for Auto Update.
2. How to remove duplicated buttons.
3. Apps launch differs from the button. How to edit buttons.

Hi, I don't have MS running on my device now, so I have to rely on my gold fish memory to answer your questions.
(1) I don't sync with cable or cradle, since I don't have a Windows PC, only via mobile network or wifi, so I have no clue, but why does it matter to sync while in the cradle?
(2) Duplicated buttons? I didn't have any of that, I believe MS pulled the app links from start menu as you installed it, so try remove the shortcut .lnk reside in windows/start menu/programs to see, don't delete the .lnk files, just move it somewhere to save yourself from recreating it.
(3) This unfortunately is quite complex and is beyond my league, there are talks on this xda forum somewhere in the SPB Skinning section, do a search for it.
(4) When exiting a program it should drop back to the screen where it was started, and I don't have that issue, if I started the app on today screen, when exit, I'll get dropped back to today screen, the same for MS screen. Try enable the start MS when device wake up to see if it helps.

Yes, I forgot that the correct spelling is M$.
I have found a GPRS related bug in all my roms. When I leave GPRS connected but idle for a long time. It will eventually lose connection with small "E" on. At that case, I can not get connected again. It pop up the error " cannot dial for unknown reasons". A soft reset will cure this.
This happens frequently when the signal is not stable.
Workaround: Disconnect the GPRS when you have finished internet surfing. Or use a program like "Direct Push" mail to keep the GRPS alive.
Fixes: Beyond my skill at this moment because all other people's rom I have tested have this problem too. And there is some fruitless discussion about the problem.

no, i hard reset & i install again my program. acctually i want to backup use sprite backup.but sprite backup won't backup my pda.so i just hard reset n reinstall my program.and that icon back to normal.
before i do the hard reset, that icon won,t change even i do soft reset & turn on and off the wifi.the wifi can on & off normally just the icon won,t change.so i do the hard reset.& it back to normal again.i hope u understand what i mine.
is that bug? it happen when my battery empty & my pda turn off automactically.and when i charging it and i turn on my pda the icon won't change even the wifi is off.

I have flashed my rom to the latest version WM6.1 20080701b142 on my HP6828. But I can't open my contacts even I have installed the PocketCM on my HP as well. The contacts just flash once and disappear.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

I don't think I have encountered this, I use push mail during the day, and at night I set it to manual fetch every 60mins, and reception in my area isn't good at all. May be I'm connecting G and not E?

You are using push mail so the gprs will keep alive but if you leave your device without any gprs service for a long long time and eventually the gprs will automatically but abnormally disconnect. Not really a serious bug.

Isn't 60mins sync internal long enough? may be i can do a test over the weekend when i don't need any emails :)
Anyway, some odd things have happened in the past, it's not surprising that this happened, I have had spb pp battery meter not updating on the today plugin, but somehow it is now working after a few re-installings, hmm...

This happens only once on my device with b135 rom and never again after soft reset.
I think you can test it when you sleep in weekends. 60 min is a short to make this emerge. set push schedule manual and connect gprs then sleep. After you wake up try to reconnect if the connection drops or browser web if not.

Have you ever updated rom using HP's official updates?
It is nearly the same as HP have stated in the website.
But one thing you need to notice is that you need to replace the RUU file because the official update file will say something about "incompatible".
It is not dangerous to use official updates but more dangerous than flashing my rom :)

I have tested this last night, no activesync, no weather update, no stock/currency updates, 8 hours idle gprs, I have full GSM reception, but my area has weak gprs coverage (according to carrier's map info). Got up this morning and it worked fine.
May be need to put it in a tin box or in the fridge or something to try to cripple the reception?

Nice and thanks for the recommendation, I didn't know Resco has a today plugin, I'll check it out. HTC plugin is pretty limited in terms of customisation, and I'm not a fan of it's layout...
I had SBSH iLauncher trial on, just like to SPB PP, but man there's so many customisations I just don't have enough patience to get through all those settings, and it doesn't incorporate the SPB products I already have, like SPB Weather and Diary, that means I need to shell out $$$, so err... not justifiable.
In the mean time I went back to PP, still have a few glitches like battery meter doesn't update, but it's a known SPB problem on certain devices.

Nope. It is like this, I just flashed my HP6828 with your latest rom for the wm6.1. I didn't do any backup whatsoever prior to the flashing because it is second hand phone that I bought it from my friend.
Immediately after the phone restart from the flashing, I can't use the contacts. I click the contacts shortcut, or the contacts icon in the Programs > Contacts nothing happen. It try to go into the Contacts at a flash and disappear.
I can't do anything with the Contacts, create new contact whatsoever because I can't enter into the Contacts at all.

Hi,
I tried the build 142 of wm6.1 rom but I have a big problem:
installing spb Pocket Plus 4 it asks me to give confirmation for executing some exe and dll files (like when you run an app without certificate the first time!) and then after soft reset the groups in the today plugin are empty and when I try to add en item it probably crash and auto soft reset itself!
So I cannot use Spb PP! I tried other programs and all works perfectly...
Is this a common problem?
And the last thing: I cannot open the backlight configuration and also the IPAQaudio configuration.
I'm using a rw6815 not the rw6828.
So now I reinstalled the 6.0 old stable rom

There is no toolboxdebug registry entry. I suggest restoring using spb backup with custom restore and deselected the file.
After that, if you find no mn1ril, quickly create a folder named "MN1RIL.txt" at where the file was. place a small file in it. So this file will never appear again! A little trick!

I have already tried the spb backup trick. I manually deleted all traces of tooboxdebug in the registry, then deselected the "MN1RIL.txt" during custom backup, hard-reset, restored backup, as soon as it is booted, all entries in the registry are re-created, and the mn1ril.txt already sitting in the device root. :(
WELL!! nice thinking!! I'm gonna try the folder trick and see. Luckily I make backups every 2-3 days, and I have a backup that before the mn1ril.txt appeared.

YES! This is a virus!!! or a prank from some programmer?
After constant 3 hours soft/hard-reset marathon, I finally nailed it... I think, this is in fact a virus, unfortunately everyone has it :(
I figured that I have done some registry key clean up, and found this:
"HKLM/SOFTWARE/Aidayua", this registry was there after hard-reset, so everyone who uses this ROM should have it.
I did a search on the net, Aidayua is indeed a famous Japanese porn star (I swear I've never watched porn...), if you remove this registry key, then do a soft-reset, and upon reset you will find MN1RIL.txt sitting on your device root, this file can not be deleted, and it will grow in size, until you have no more room left. This will also create a new registry key called "toolboxdebug".
I did the folder trick as Helloworld suggested, it didn't work and it will cost you a hard-reset!! After the folder trick, whenever I perform a soft-reset, the 6828 will stuck at the HP boot screen, you can never get pass that, and you can not soft-reset either, only option is to hard-reset!!!
Can someone repeat this? I did a fresh new hard-reset, the very next thing I did was to remove this registry key, and after the next soft-reset there is that $%$# MN1RIL.txt!!

Helloworld~~~ help~~ sop sop.

In my investigation, I figure out that Aidayua registry is normal because It exist in HP's officical WM5 ROM!!
What it does is to log some of the systeme event
MN1RIL.txt logs the Radio Interface Layer's event.
MUXlog.txt logs the multiplex's events.
...
How to disable loging?
Add registry key "HKLM/SOFTWARE/Aidayua"
Add DWORD value "Aidayua" and set it 0. Then do a soft reset. Then MN1Ril.txt can be viewed, deleted!

Good! Mystery resolved!! How you figured out so quickly? I've done extensive search on "Aidayua, toolboxdebug and MN1RIL.txt" even on M$ database and return zero results other than loads of pornography...
But why chose the name Aidayua? Hmmm... whoever did this must be fan of this Jap porn star :D but the programmer's practice is questionable, should have been radiologdisable or anything that make sense...
Thanks!.

It is not M$'s problem. It is the problem of HP or Quanta (who design the 6828 and Atom). This device is designed in Asia so maybe a Japanese make such thing or his name is just that:D

I've never heard severe virus in windows mobile albeit there are lots of antivirus softwares.
The default value should be zero or everyone will store debug info. If you are curious, you can set it to 1, and you will also see debug files!

So apart from this, I think I am quite happy with the current ROM, I will stick to this for awhile before the next major upgrade...
So Helloworld, what's on top of your "to fix" list so far? Just wondering.

Ever thought of enabling any button on like in WM5? Will help to extend life of power button.
I was outstation yesterday & lucky I brought along a spare phone. Phone & SMS usage & while surfing via WiFi, battery drain from 100% - 75% & SUDDENLY SHUTDOWN (battery exhausted warning). Unable to switch back on. When charging back 0% - 25% & straight to FULL 100%. Still using original battery bought exactly 2 years back. Time for new battery or something else?

I have tried including wm5's button on option but failed. I do not know how to invoke dll file in settings.
Your battery's internal chip seems malfunction. Maybe you need a new one. If you are sure your battery have enough power even at 0%(by measure the voltage), you can use something to mark the battery's pin2 and pin3. Then you can switch back on in emergency.

K
I tried SPB PP twice, installed by phone and cab with full feature and it is working well, did you do a fresh install or restore your backup?

There are four pins in 6828's battery.
+ O 1
O 2
O 3
- O 4
If you have equipment to measure the voltage. You can drain your battery to "power off" and then measure pin 1 and 4. If the voltage is above 3.80V, it means the battery have about 40% power.
Pin 2 and pin 3 connects to a chip in the battery that tells the device battery life.
If you use something or a little piece of paper to mask pin 2 and pin 3, the device won't know the device's battery life. So it will never turn off!
If your device powers off but you must continue use your device, you can use this method to do. Don't drain your battery too much or it will be completely broken!

Nope, restore from spb backup using ROM upgrade mode, too tiresome to put everything back from scratch :p
So far PP is working fine... except upon soft-reset, i have to refresh the tabs at least once, because some of the app icons turned into a generic one.
PP is quite memory hungry, and something that I'm running has memory leak too, RAM can get below 15mb with nothing running after half a day of use. Without PP, everything else seems fine though

Very interesting piece of information.
Looking from the back of the device (with prints of battery facing me) 1 = left & 4 = right or vice versa. Anyway is either + - or - +.
When you mentioned completely broken, do you mean as good as throwing into dustbin? No way to bring back to live either by soft reset, hard reset or flashing again?

Yes if you overrun your battery tooooo much, when the voltage is below about 2.9v, the battery can not be charged again!
I personally get my only-two-hour-life oem battery about 6 hour battery life because the indicated 20% life is 3.88v which is 70% normal power. I can use software to track usage time so that I will know when to charge.

I have spb diary and weather incorporated within the tabs, that's probably why it takes up so much memory I think. I used to have gprs monitor running, it consume quite a bit of battery juice and while i have unlimited gprs data, so I removed it.
Upon soft-reset I have about 26mb free RAM, but eventually will go down to under 15mb with nothing running after half a day of use, so something is chewing up the memory.
You said PP is working OK on your device, is smart scroll working or selectable at all? if not there is a registry key you need to remove before you install PP, it's the Touchflo registry key sitting under HKLM/Software/OEM/ it's an empty registry so doesn't hurt to remove it (of course unless you are already using TouchFlo), otherwise PP will disable smart scroll at the time of install.

Ok, so it's the battery going to be broken only (can always buy 1 to replace) & not the device. Phew.
Do I loss anything from the device? Does it goes back to factory default (ROM) without apps & data? Is there a internal battery other than removal one?
Do you mean you 'trick' your device to extend it to 6 hours from 2 hours? Software tracks time of usage from your last charge?

There is no internal battery inside the device (Should have one to perserve time, but hp missed). But you won't lose anything because Flash memory does not lose data without power.
I use software to track the time and at the same time use my little voltage meter to measure the voltage of the batter in case of overrun. After 6 hour usage, the voltage is 3.65V, which means 10% in the normal case.

Certification issue exist in all the WM 6.1 ROMs. The not-very-practical method to install is to use other device (WM6.0 or 5.0) installing the cert and export the registry. Then you can import this registry.
I haven't not tried myself, though.

Yes the radio is not stable in 6828, updating it won't help.

1st PC : XP w/ ActiveSync4.5
2nd PC : Vista w/ Windows Mobile Device Center (need to reinstall before it works)
When sync back with 1st PC, Support Code : 8000107 :(
https://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsMobile/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1823006&SiteID=65
Very frustrating & workaround is temporary or limit the sync item. WM5 was perfect.
M$ should release a patch through win update. Anyway , I will keep up with M$'s new AKU(Now stable version is 1.1, beta version is 1.3).

@helloworld1
sorry for bothering u,but i think maybe u know how to solved my problem..
im using nhocbanme's wm6.1 19400 rom.the problem is when i listen to music using headphones on pocket music or other music player, the volume very low eventho the volume is 100%..
To make the volume louder,i must open ipaq audio and adjust the setting(bass or treble or 3d). After i close the ipaq audio, then i stop/pause the music and play again,it become slow again...and i must do the steps again to make it louder..
Do u know y helloworld1?maybe the ipaq audio not compatible with wm6.1 rom?If yes,how do i remove it?
Thanks in advance. :)

I have never uploaded Kumara's rom. If extrom.cab is not working, you can extract the cab file using tools like msinf and copy files to the root directory. If you can not copy some files, just skip it!

Yes it is not compatible with 6.1 rom very well . Why do you want to remove it? It won't interfere you installing SRS and It is only a control panel interact with wavedev.dll.
If you feel bad about that, you can extract his rom and delete audiocpl.cpl.

I don't quite understand your words. You can extract using this tool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2392584&postcount=1085
And put the _QHiddenPartition to the root dir. Then Do a soft reset, the camera should work. If it is still not working. Do a hard reset and redo the whole thing.
I haven't used kumura's ROM so I don't know this problem.

You won't get your audio lauder by removing ipaq audio because It is just a control panel. By removing it, the volume will stay very low as it was.

Hallo helloworld, thank you very much with your ROM. you are a great person. last time i use b95 rom. and now,I have just tried your b142 roms. there are so many great improvements, thank you very much. but when I want to install resco explorer 2008, it comes with message "old settings found.do you want to overwrite? choose yes or no." whatever I do comes with unsatisfied result, resco explorer unsuccessfully installed. i have reflashed with same rom and try with different version, ex: resco explorer 2007, but always the same result. finally i decide to left resco explorer and begin to use total commander.
another same problem presents when I want to install spb mobile shell 2.1. Installation is successfull, but the system become freeze/give no response. when I soft-reset the device, boot process become much slower and the system always give no response. then I tried to reflashed again and install another version of spb mobile shell 2.0/2.1, but it always come with same result.
now, choose not to install spb mobile shell.
can you give me some advices so I can use resco explorer and spb mobile shell again in your last rom?
thank you very much

I am now using resco explorer 7.03 and it works very well.
I have just installed SPB mobile shell and tested it. It won't slow down the boot process but slows down the start menu speed. Also it didn't freze the device in my little test. Sorry I can't reproduce your problem.

Hi,
I am using both Resco Explorer 7.02 and Mobile Shell 2.1 and Pocket Plus 4 (with some components disabled), all running perfect on 6828!
Is your device 6828? I have all the above installed on device memory, not on SD-card though.

Hi,
This may be a network/carrier issue? I figured that sometimes email arrives quicker and other times take ages.
For some reason I felt that the wm6/6.1"Push Email" is not as instantaneous as wm5 HP ROM... may be M$ has changed something?
I am using the same mail2web as well, and I pay the monthly personal account to have my email alias, very convenient.
