I don't know exactly because I don't have this device. Generally speaking, it is not working. But some people successfully run using the self test->camera trick.

I have rw6815 device and using the rom you made for it - "6815 camera patch may work version r2". The rom works great and the camera does work (though the picture is mirrored) without applying any patch or fix after flashing this rom.

1. SYS: Brand new 19971 system bringing many new changes from M$'s newer stable system. Visible changes are "close icon", "alarm setting", "menu font size". There are also many internal changes.
2. SYS: Memory management imporved.
3. OEM: Bluetooth BPP removed. As it consume memory and ROM space but not useful.

You can keep call history and SMS as well as contacts. Anything else needs to reinstall.
I recommend PIM Backup.

No. I mean the "close button" icon changes. It is not boxed. All version since AKU 1.2 is like this. But it won't close programs. You still need Magic Button.

Sorry. I don't have that kind of tools. There are some tools to dump the whole ROM to a SD card. You can search around. Why don't you just use the ROM from the official updates?

why u not try the b189 its more fast n stable ...
in my device its much stable than b165 ... also much faster n i dont hav any problem with that button ...

You can check the update list. If you feel the one you are using is stable enough, you'd better stay with it. Anytime you feel uncomfortable with it, you can update to newer version.

The one in ROM directory is just an reference ROM. It is quite old.
Because the kitchen is made before the b189 release. You only customize b165 ROM. If you do not change anything and run "build rom.bat", you will get b165 ROM in FLASH directory. If you have downloaded 20273 SYS, you can put it in and rename it as SYS directory. You can build 20273 ROM.

You need to refer the sticky post in this forum to see how to build OEM package. Put OEM package in "OEM" directory.
The kitchen is a very initial release, it cannot extract existing ROMs.

What is that? Do you mean these apps leaves some "residue" on the screen even after exit? The software like wisbar will cover part of the screen using its own layer. If it cannot update the screen. The residue will be leaved.

It is maybe the software's compatibility problems. This is maybe the newer version of an ****apiinfo.dll in the ROM cause the incompatibility. But changing this one to older WM5 version may cause some other problems.
You can contact the author to add more compatibility to newer WM6.1. And install the newest version.

I tried many themes. Only color+hp shifts upwards. And customized picture does not shift. I think it is the compatibility problem. I will look into this problem further. Thanks for reporting this bug.

Hi i'm using the rom for the iPaq rw6815 now, it's a very nice and clean ROM but I do have some issues with it.

Why are you using (what it seems) a 3rd party camera app ? It doesn't work very well (flash doesn't work the way it should, it alters screen brightness, live view is broken (mirrored and sometimes completely shit)) Why don't you use the HP camera app ?

hp's camera is very slow. All camera problem is driver related. Not camera softwares.

As my experience, recharinge the device by usb without install Activesyn is not possible. You should install activesyn to enable it.

in my experience its still can recharge the device by usb without installing activesync but with this method
Dont power ON the 6828... so when we charge... power OFF the device by take out and reinsert the battery without power on the devices...
Its work for me till now...:D

M$ make this theme special on purpose. I keep this in my ROM. If I delete an provxml, this theme will be normal.

2. Press any key. ( If you don't know where is "any" key, you are in big trouble... Just kidding)
3. Push the little triangle icon in pkgtools, and it will process the packages. When it says "done", close this window.
4. Wait and it will say successfully built.

When you want to use kitchen, you will need .net framework 2.0 or above.

hey thats weird. ipaq audio is perfectly working on my device, backlight control too. mybe you should try flashing again

Very minor update to fix the problem in the last time I port the xip. You can restore backup from b189 without any problem.

Nope, it didn't need to login via browser, when i'm using old WM5 it just connected, and then i can browse or chat without accessing my GPRS(i try it with my phone off,and it stay connected)
But when using WM 6.1 it always say that there's no connection

it is easy.just use schap's advance config.no need to registry tweaks.:)

p/s:in schap's advance config,u can see sim contact already disable,but u need to choose enable,then restart phone.after that,choose disable,then restart.finish. :)

reset fixed that problem, but active sync wasnt working and not even wifi blink.

then i did hard reset by pressing power and reset button together. and it let me use the wifi blue blink:D good to see that:p

but after hard reset camera is again not working.

no firewall i am using, even windows default firewall is off, activesync version 4.5.

Have you tried reinstalling the activesync?
Since I am using linux, I do not use activesync natively. Through vmware, it is working on win xp images.
Some people also encounter such problem. If anyone have some suggestions, please help!

There is a file called initflash.dat in the LANG0409 directory in OEM directory. Read this file a bit and you will get how to create folders in start menu and how to add shortcuts to it.
Place an icon.lnk with the link to the icon file will generate the icon for the folder.

You can delete it.
In Linux, you need to use wine to cook rom. But you cannot use the kitchen since it uses .net framework but Mono does not provide windows form.

The method is generally like this:
1. wine prepare_imgfs.exe diskimg.nb0
2. wine viewimgfs. imgfs....
3. Modify the dump directory
4. wine build_imgfs
5. wine Make_imgfs diskimg.nb0

The USB emulation in virtualbox is problematic.

You need to install Esmertec Jbed. I recommned version 20080222.3.1

I don't have enough to keep up my ROM with Manilla 2D. You can install it by yourself. It takes about 10-20M to install but if you install most of your other software in the storage card, it is enough. Also, by this, you can always keep up with the latest Manilla 2D release.

but i cant update using the update provided by hp.

i have been using 20273 ROM, i compared with default SYS in 6828 kitchen, 20273 more small in kb.
i erase FONT folder (MSYHT.ttf at /6828-kitchen/oem/FONT_MSYH) from OEM ( I hope it can free up internal storage about 10mb after flashing).
I change some picture in sys folder (like welcome screen & etc)
I Change Windows some theme (tsk file) in sys, I deleted the original one then copy an other theme and change their name to original i have erase before.
I Try to change keyboard theme, with overwrite msim.96.dll with new one (witch i hv been copy from forum) is it correct?

Run your kitchen program, flash it using sdcard into my 6828 and the result is:
- I Successfully changing welcome screen
- IMHO, it's moderate battery consumption
- almost same internal storage with your 21th update rom (it just about 52mb) i think can free up until 60mb before
- Very unstable rom :o with
- can't doing sync with pc
- Connection on setting not work properly, just blank screen i found.
- Theme no work anymore, changing not impact anything.
- Keyboard theme not successfully applied :( still with ori white background.

:) my question is :
1. it is my way correct ?
2. you say, we can safely to remove windows update and windows live. witch one i should remove? i found about 3 folder on sys with name windows update....
3. how it can free up more space even all 6828 rom distributed in 64.000 kb? or meaning same final size each other?

update today : i try extract nb0 file using garmin cooking tools, i can extract nb0 file to dump directory, but i can't separate which one should be into sys folder or oem folder, all of them just in one, dump folder.

You are way to cook is correct, but the 20273 SYS is neither complete nor problem-free. 20273 SYS are from MS's testing ROM and there is no actual device. There are many problem in it. So I think you need to go back to other SYS.

If you add some OEM, they may also take the storage space. So the free space is smaller.

Garmin's Atom Kitchen should extract my ROM almost correctly. But for the official WM5 ROM, you cannot extract the official one directly without modification. If you want photosmart, I can upload it for you.

I can make Manila 2D as an OEM, but it will take much time. I think there are many people have made this OEM. But we don't search hard. As far as I know, there are many Chinese OEMs.

I tried your latest release (b196) yesterday and encountered some problems:

1. Sometimes a softreset or a "wake up" (by power button) makes the touchscreen unusable, although the buttons are functional <.<

Do you have any solution? should I try another rom?

FYI: I was using a rw6828 with WM5 1.00.03 (original, bought from USA) BL 1.00.01 (but for some reason I can't flash rom by SD card)

Pls note my earlier post, bluedweeb.
The real cause is SRS WOW HD. Uninstalling it (or hardreset) will solve that problem.

For more info, I've tried to install SRS WOW HD with both methods (copying file .cpl into windows folder and running registry import file) but to no avail.
I think I have to put up with this problem for a while. I mostly use my phone in vibration mode after all. But somehow this WM 6.1 rom downgraded the ridiculous strong vibration of rw6828.

@Helloworld1: I encountered new problem. For some reason, I can't connect to the Internet via my desktop computer, even though it's ok with the company's computer in the office (and ok with GPRS connection too) <.<. I tried to change firewall rule (Kaspersky internet security) to allow all traffic but it still can't <.< I need help, desperately! :(

You are way to cook is correct, but the 20273 SYS is neither complete nor problem-free. 20273 SYS are from MS's testing ROM and there is no actual device. There are many problem in it. So I think you need to go back to other SYS.

If you add some OEM, they may also take the storage space. So the free space is smaller.

Garmin's Atom Kitchen should extract my ROM almost correctly. But for the official WM5 ROM, you cannot extract the official one directly without modification. If you want photosmart, I can upload it for you.

I can make Manila 2D as an OEM, but it will take much time. I think there are many people have made this OEM. But we don't search hard. As far as I know, there are many Chinese OEMs.

Run the package tool and select dump folder and it will get separated.
Replacing it should take effect. You need to change the whole folder not the dll file in it.
I have said I don't have much time recently to dump it. I can merely support this thread.

btw, I noticed that messaging doesn't show number of character as in WM5, it's not very important but do you know any soft that can helps?

It shows on my device. On the top if you reply or right after the text if you create a new sms.

helloworld1, I'm using ur ROM b196, but I encounter 1 problem...sometimes I can't send sms, but I can make phone calls...the signal is OK (b'coz I can make phone calls). It keeps saying "the phone is busy, please wait 15 seconds or more". I tried to softreset couple of times, but the problem is still the same...can anyone help me ?

I've just tried Rom b165 and ... the same problem happens. Immediately after SRS WOW HD runs, touchscreen becomes unusable after power on and power off. Could you look into this problem when releasing new version?

I guess I have to put up with this for a while, then. But I'm still satisfied with these roms. Thanks for all the good works!

I now use your latest Rom which is just great !
Battery longs much more than before !
However, in this forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-360664-p-5.html) you reported that there is an additional backlight step. I love using the lowest backlight level as possible. I also faces the reported problem with Phone weaver, as well with Mobile shell.
If I could simply assign a hardware button to toggle to lowest possible value for the backlight, I would be the happiest pocket PC owner.
I used to use Pocket plus to have a shortcut called by AE button plus. But the lowest value isn't reachable.
Any one has a trick to make a shortcut to call the lowest screen backlight ?

I think you can write a mortscript to do this job.

I've seen many posts here asking if ipaq 6815 will work on this ROM.
I've got one, and it work perfectly. Actualy i prefer it over the original.
The unic incoveniece is the fact that i can not thake pictures. Well there are patches posted in this forum that will make it work. if you install it in these order it wil work flalessly, so you realy dont nedd to make any new patch to you rom helloworld1.

I have found blue manila 2D for 6828, i hv make it into oem specified by garmin tutorial using hypercore.
then I cooking using several rom, from your 6828 kitchen, dumped from your stable rom, WM5 their Original rom, Nhocbanme, or biohazard rom.
All allways sucsessfully build by BuildOS bepe, with notified at first time, are i want include Manila in rom, i check on it.
but unfortunately, every I flash into my 6828 using SDcard, :( allways freeze at "clean boot and reaset to factory setting" screen.
May i loose something step?
