WARNING: ROM Updating is NOT without risks. Please read the instructions carefully!

Preclude:
I haven't expected my ROMs will still frerquently updated today. I want to thank all of you who help me. You can donate me if you like my rom. Even $0.02 will satisfy me and encourage me to further support the rom.

Acknowledge:
Bepe for great tools. wuqiyu007 for porting XIP part. Garmin for great tutorials. abusalza for useful reference ROM. Homer285 for useful reference ROM. l3v5y's for great oem packages.
All people who help me testing this rom especially hochengsoon, kusanagi, slys3171989 and edywanwan.
ogel2, Tabbe and ronalddo for testing the atom rom.
Special Thank to BesFen, he helps me making an Manila 2D enabled new ROM and give me many good suggestions.

Rom Selection Guide:
There are so many ROMs on my thread that the new comers can hardly find which one fit their needs. This section will describe each ROM concisely and state my suggestion.

->If you want a stable ROM with Chinese support:
The main series of "clean and stable" ROM will fit you best. This ROM is also well supported by me and the stability is evaluated by time. I recommend you the b221 ROM.

->If you want to try something new and bleeding edge versions
The WP 6.5 series ROM fit you best.

->If you want to try Manila 2D enabled ROM:
There are 2 versions: Jade version and Besfen version. I do not support the Jade version very well due to time limitation. Besfen version is newer and supported by him. I think you can try Besfen's version first.

->If you want to make your own customization:
Try my kitchen. It is supported by me and you can ask questions about it.

->If you want ROMs of other languages:
There are CHS, CHT, GER versions. But they are unsupported and a little old. The stability is OK.

->If you want Atom ROM:
THere are Atom-R2 Rom here. But it is not supported. You can try it.

HP6828 Clean and Stable WM6.1 WWE rom:
The rom have Jade's kernel and kaiser's system as the base. The pagepool is 6M for stability as well as performance.
If you want to know what is good about Windows Mobile 6.1 comparing to 6.0, you can read this small PDF file: http://www.mediafire.com/?xdlgomziwtq

HP 6828 Clean and Stable WWE ROM:

Features of this rom :
1. Almost the same as the MS's Emulator's stable ROM.
2. Add some of O2 and HP's OEM apps like camera and wireless manager.
3. The HP's driver mixed with other enhancement.

Known bugs of this rom :
1. The Bluetooth PAN is not working at all. I include Bluetooth DUN support as a workaround.
2. In a very very rare case wi-fi will be on after reset.
3. Battery life is slightly shorter but better performance. A patch is needed to get longer battery life. (Download patch from the second thread or use Schap's Advanced Configuration tool).
4. The sound volume is a little low. SRS WOW HD will increase the volume dramatically.
5. The Bluetooth A2DP auto connection is working but one need to turn the device's BT on first then headset's or it will not work.
6. MMS program can not capture pictures and video.
7. Ipaq audio's headset ability will be disabled when powered off then on. Click on the slide will activate it.
8. Can not copy SMS to SIM card.(Thanks whtwww for notifying me the bug)
9. The screen may shift after flashing the ROM. Workaround: Do a soft reset on the welcome screen and then recalibrate the screen.
10. Bluetooth problem in WM 6.5 ROMs.

Kitchen World:
The kitchen is a set of tool and files to rebuild and customize the ROM for convinence. I hope cookers enjoy these tools. I also released the non-supported 20273 system in hope of external force to stabilize it. Atom's kitchen is a little old. But it is still a good base to build atom's ROMs. Update f is essentially a new 6.5 kitchen. You can enjoy that more.

Donation
Thank you very much for those who has donated and supported me. You do not need to donate as 6828 is not exciting any more. You can show your thanks by following this thread.

How to flash using SD Card(Recommended):
Extract diskimg.nb0 to a sd card (<1G is better), insert it into 6828, press&hold 2 soft key(-) and reset. After a while, it will be in PBL mode, wait 15-20min, it will hard reset itself and flash done. The first boot time is very long so be patient , you may click the screen so that the device will not auto-off.

How to flash from PC with Windows XP (It is ok to run it in vmware)

Thanks Knave and rcperez for posting their detailed experience so I can write this section. Also thanks jimmyspa for improving the addheader's performance greatly.
1. Check your Boat loader version
(do a soft reset, and check the value printed at the bottom during the HP logo screen)
2. If you noticed that the last line states BL 1.00.05, it means you have boat loader 1.05 installed. You will need to download and flash your phone back to 1.01 via ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34001-34500/sp34053.exe (VERY DANGEROUS, FLASHING VIA SD IS MUCH SAFER!)
3. After successfully downgraded your phone's boatloader, or your version was already v1.01, you can proceed to flash your phone to the rom.

With the check done, proceed with the required files.
1. Go to download section to download the rom file.
2. Download the file pcupdate.zip attached in this thread and unzip the contents to the same folder you used in step 1.
3. Download the latest Rom file and extract to the same folder
4. Run BuffereAddHeader.bat. It will take seconds to generate a diskimage_Ver.nb0. (You should have Java Runtime > 1.50 installed, http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)
5. Move your phone to boatloader mode ( press the two - keys, follow by a poke at the soft reset hole with your stylus )
6. Connect the phone to the PC
7. Execute the Device Utility Update program and wait till it verifies the state. Click on Update Item "All" use cursor keys to change it to "OS ONLY" then hit next **** SELECT "OS ONLY", if you cant change it to "OS ONLY" DONT PROCEED!!! It should detect your device as Model 0 etc.
8. Press Next to begin flashing.
9. Once completed, the phone will reset by itself. Wait for a while for it to startup.

Here are the notes & files provided by hochengsoon with README for flashing via Windows XP
PC flashing using BL1.0.1 must be done from C:\Windows\Temp, so why not start everthing from this folder ie PCUpdate + ROM + missing file(s).
PCUpdate1.rar - http://www.mediafire.com/file/k5jumzzg1mm/PCUpdate1.rar
PCUpdate2.rar - http://www.mediafire.com/file/zqykwmteizz/PCUpdate2.rar

How to downgrade to WM5 using PC
1. download wm5 rom from http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=1839228&prodTypeId=215348&prodSeriesId=1839223&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=2067&hpappid=NextGen
2. run it and after entering the updating screen cancel it.
3. replace the hpRUU.exe in c:\IPAQ(default install) with the attached file hpRUU.exe in archive hpRUU.zip
4. Connect device to PC, then press and hold two "-" button and reset.
5. Run hpRUU.exe and do a normal update.
Note: you may delete eboot*.nbf to prevent bricking the device.

How to downgrade to WM5 using SD Card
1. Download this file: http://www.mediafire.com/?mbwxx9szmyz
2. Extract diskimg.nb0 to your sd card.
3. Enter bootloader mode by pressing two "-" keys.
4. Wait .

How to recover from semi-brick state:
1. Prepare a sd card with proper diskimg.nb0.
2. Pull out the batter for a few minutes.
3. Press and hold two "-" button and at the same time, put the battery in.
4. Wait a few second and release the button, then after a while, the device will be in bootloader mode.

How to use kitchens (NEW writen by besfen):
Req: .NET2.0+
1. Download Kitchen Tools and extract it.
2. If you have diskimg.nb0 file that you want to modified, copy it to the TOOLS directory and ROM directory.
3. In "cmd", "cd" to the TOOLS directory.
4. Run prepare_imgfs.exe diskimg.nb0, it will dump the .nb0 file.
5. Run viewimgfs.exe imgfs_raw_data.bin, it will make dump folder in the TOOlS directory.
6. Run pkgtools.exe, select the dump folder and build package, it will make 2 folder, SYS and OEM.
7. Sometime some files don't move to that folder, you can open missing.txt file to know where the location of that file, move the files to the location said in the missing.txt. Finally, there isn 't files in the dump folder, all file are in the SYS and OEM. Delete missing.txt and OS.bat in OEM folder. SYS is M$ related, OEM is oem added things.
8. Replace the original SYS and OEM folder in the kitchen with new extracted ones.

User can change the OEM at will except the OEMDriver folder. I have modified it many times to get it stable on new ROM.

To add a new OEM Software, you need:
1. Extract the cab file of the app, you can use wincab manager to do this.
2. Put the extracted files to the new folder in the OEM. The folder name don't contain space, you can use _ (underscore).
3. Type the registry in the one of .rgu file. There are many .rgu file there, you can edit it with notepad. if you finish save as, choose all file and unicode type, but don't change the name of that .rgu file.
4. Make a shortcut, open initflash.dat file with notepad, the location is in the OEM_lang folder, type the shortcut name. You can read the existing shortcut in that file to know how to do it. Remember to make the shortcut file first in the folder of each app.

After that, just run build.bat file in the kitchen directory, follow the instruction and your ROM already created in the FLASH FOLDER.

GOOD LUCK.

First, the wifi light is working on my 6828. The camera flash light do not work though.
Second, I have ALREADY cut the 12 byte header, so it is safe to flash using a SD card. I said that if you need to flash using RUU you need to ADD 12 BYTE.
Thanks for your interest in my rom.

Also, will it flash with a 2gb miniSD card? That's all I have.

Hellooow....helloworld1,
I ve flash this ROM today. It took about 15 minutes. Very good and clean ROM. Everything works perfect, Bluetooth stereo working nice, JAVA midlet also okay, camera works good with flash automatically light during photography. High memory after install 70 applications still got 42MB internal memory left. Hmmm....what else to comment...nothing , all perfect:)
When are you going to release WM6.1 with this type of super clean ROM....waiting....waiting :D:D
Keep up the good work!!!

I've splatted my 6815 with this ROM today, and thankfully it works a treat! It takes a while for its first boot but then I started to breath again when it came up. :)

The camera doesn't work at all though. The program loads but errors with "failed to get jpeg stream" or similar when clicking the cam's hw button. However that's a small sacrifice to pay when the pay off is WM6, that HP can't be bothered to provide.

Many thanks to helloworld1, and here's hoping you release WM6.1 in due course. \o/

6815 may need a patch to get camera working. You may need to search around.
I do not have a 6815, so I will not embed it in this rom.

I haven't find any solution in the bugs in "bad section". So maybe I will not do minor update to this rom. Also, it will, maybe, save your time updating something worthless.

What about 6.1:
Due to the reason that 6.1 haven't been official released, I do not have a strong will to make a unstable rom.
I will release a 6.1 rom if it is stable and no clean one have released.

No, NEVER TRY TO UPDATE IT WITH CARD MORE THAN 1GB!!
It will almost surely brick(not badly) your device that causes some unnecessary trouble. After that you can still flash again.

So there are 10(!) choices for you:
01.Buy a 256m or 512m card.
11.Add 12 byte header and flash using RUU.
10.Simply do not update:D

please make a clean wm6.1 rom, stuck with htc applications it's lowering the system resources, on the other hand there are better alternative 3rd party applications. I don't like the black hard shape of htc applications.

Too late! I used my 2gb card yesterday (after a clean FAT format) and it worked fine. :)

Congratulations, you are so lucky. At first, I format my 2GiB card using vfat and try to flash it. Not so lucky, I brick my device for several days before I find out a solution. At last I recover it with a 512 MiB card.

Any idea how to increase the speed that the green light flashes? It's much slower using this rom (about every 8 seconds), where as on WM5 it flashed about every 3 seconds. When it's orange for a notification it still flashes faster though.

There must be a registry option somewhere..

I think it is the driver problem.
Flashing slower is more power conserving though.
I have once tried to modify the wm5 registry to set it slower but no use.

The new ROM(b30) looks stable. Camera open smoothly in my 6828.
One question,
What is this 'Microsoft YaHei font to display CJK' glyph means? Any way to remove this font(10MB) since its size is so big so as to save more space, so that the ROM is real big storage and clean.

It is a font that embedded in rom. It won't affect the real storage and memory but rom space.

Well actually I m using comic san fonts ( 124 & 108 KB) which I copy from Windows XP pc. Other than that the default font which commonly use in other ROM are tahoma and tohamabold are quite accepted as a default font and easily read. And this Microsoft yahei are quite similar to tahoma( as what I see when set to it) just that the size are smaller.
I also own a hermes flashed with Dragon Clean ROM with 83.58 MB free storage as well also tried other big storage roms but never notice this font before, thats why I ask. I have had my HP 6828 ignored for almost 6 month since then, but your ROM just came to rescue and it is active again with WM6!!!:D

Sorry, but what is CJK glyph and what does it do?

This font can display larger range of unicode coverage mostly Chinese, Japanese, Korean special character and glyph.
I have used fontforge to replaced this font's English part with Tahoma, so it won't affect the English(and most European language) display. Because, the default is wider and higher than tahoma resulting in cutting parts of the glyph when displayed.
The modified font's name is msyht.ttf,Microsoft YaHei.

helloworld1
19th February 2008, 08:21 AM
This rom used tahoma as default font and fontlink to msyht.ttf. So it will mostly use Tahoma font and won't take any memory until you try to display glyphs that isn't in Tahoma. Then system will use msyht.ttf and consume some more font cache memory.

This information is useful for one who want to recover data using a backup software like spb backup or something like that.
You do NOT need to do so if you are doing a fresh install.
If you updated from b29 to b30 do:
1. reinstall all your java apps.
if you updated from b30 to b35 do:
2. Delete the registry key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETCompactF ramework] in registry editor like resco registry. Import attached reg file using resco registry(included in resco explorer). If you do not do so, apps like calculator won't work.

1, Is there anyway to turn power on by other buttons? There was an option in settings/button in official WM5, but not this WM6.
2, Is it same way to hardreset as official WM5 (Press and hold the Answer/Send, Power, and End Call, then press the Reset)?

Thanks for great ROM.

1. It is not possible in this version, I may figure it out in the future.
2. Not the same, press and hold POWER button and press reset. Then there will be a screen with a green and red phones. But you need to press two "-" button simultaneously to complete the hard reset.

1,2Ha..ha...too late!! Last night i've flash and restore backup using SPB from previous ROM but some apps which need NETCF didnt work. There are few redundant files restored from previous backups (GACxxx files) which I presume were previous NETCF2.0 components in windows folder which blended together with the new NETCF 3.5 files causing the whole framework failed. So, I had no choice but to manually installed all my apps again manually the whole night again.
Now this morning u provide this net.reg.cab files to overcome this different ROM backup, does it mean that it will overide and clean the old NET2.0 components restoration ? If so that's good news but something I missed already..hehe..
Thanks a lot, I really like this ROM!!!!:D:D:D

Sorry hearing from that, I will provide the restore procedure along with the future release.
The old .net cf files are in rom. spb won't restore it, so it will not result in a mixed 2.0 and 3.5 leaving junks. The GAC-* files in b35 are renamed from .net cf 3.5 cab, just for easier to remove in the future.
Run /windows/cgacutil.exe to see which version of .netcf your using.

Camera flash does light-on when taking picture(during snap) but unlike old HP ROM which has to be manually light-up by clicking the flash icon in camera apps then snap picture. This is better as it works like a real camera, not just shining up before actual picture taking. I found that this new behavior work in all version of your ROM that I had flashed.

Referring to it, you should install activesync at least 4.2. Maybe that is the problem. The internet sharing does not emulate a standard modem, and the driver is needed.

It does not contain the gsm radio firmware. It contains os part only, so it won't override your gsm part. The latest gsm is 0.34, if anyone want to update, you have to do a normal wm5 update and then update this one again.
Note:
It is said that renaming the gsm firmware to mot.mot then copying to a sd card will flash it separately. But I fail to do so.

This is really an issue. Once connected to USB through internet sharing, the pc doesnt reconize the device as a modem, thus it fails to install. Hence no internet connection happen. I have another Hermes100 and this device immedietly recognized and internet on the way,no problem. So I think there is something with HP device that is not quite right, either hardware or ROM matters.

In Hermes you got WM6?

On jiggs ROM was old "Modem Link", but in all others just "internet sharing".

For me, to make "internet sharing" as modem connection for internet in laptop was unsuccessfully in any others ROM either jiggs ROM ("Modem Link").

So at this time just available "internet sharing" with WMWifiRouter as Wifi access point, at least i think it's easiest way.

Sure , available separate cabs for "Modem Link" , but there is registry changing, after that changing i was problem with bluetooth and bluetooth OBEX (file transfer).

So if somebody has good solution either WMWifiRouter, please respond.

Hello helloworld1,

Nice work with the clean ROM!!

I have been watching this thread and NHOCBANME's for 6828 ROM for long time, but I still have not make the move to upgrade, it is because I have concerns with stability and functionality issues that it may cause, and once I upgraded, I won't upgrade for a long time, reason is I rely on my device for work heavily, and can't afford to be a tester.

I love CLEAN ROM, so I think NHOCBANME's ROM may not be my cup of tea as it has been personalised with extra apps I don't use. But what I do like is he replaced the O2 boot screen with the HP's, do you think you can do the same for this CLEAN ROM? so it doesn't have brand conflict.

I'll probably wait until there's no more issues found by anyone, then I'll bite the bullet and upgrade.

BTW, how long does it take the camera to take a shot and store the image on the latest Clean ROM?

For those who has upgraded to the latest Clean ROM, can you please post more about your experience with the ROM? I'd like to hear about all the +'s and -'s.

Keep up the good work!!

Cheers,

K

1. The rom is very stable on my device. The battery performance is just like wm5. The problems is in the first thread, and is often updated.
2. I never care of the boot screen so Inever modify the picture. But you can modify it yourself by referring the sticky post on this forum. I may modify it if you cannot do the job and I have free time, maybe next month.
3. The camera works better than wm5 one. The start up and taking picture time is about 3 seconds.

For my RW6828 The battery performance is better then in wm5.

In WM5 was about 1.5 day on fully charged battery,
on WM6(clean ROM) was about 2 day on fully charged battery.

So in total , i'm very happy about this clean ROM, some problems are inherent to all WM6 ROM's.
From all tested by me ROM's , this ROM I like much more.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

As long as gprs is working, and activesync works over that, push mail should have no problem. If have gprs active, then you can go to live.mail2web.com and get a free push email account (microsoft exchange server). that way as soon as email arrives you get notify instantly, like sms.

Better still, you can sync all your calendar, contacts, task etc with it over gprs and have a backup copy on the server, after hard reset, just setup gprs and server source then watch all your contacts etc comes back in.

Sorry for going off topic...

Now... anyone has tried Tomtom or anything similar?

Excellent, I think that will give me enough confident to upgrade.

I think for internet sharing, if your laptop has wifi, may be can use ppc program called wifirouter, which turns your ppc into a wifi router, it requires at least aku3.3 or higher to run, and my current aku is too old for that.

Yes, at this time this only one option (WMWifiRouter) to use "Internet Sharing" and i think it will take more battery resources.

And One more:

I think sharing internet via USB only works if you have a Windows based laptop, and I have only a Macbook so I think wmwifirouter is the only option for me regardless usb works or not. Beside, you can still plug in your usb cable to the laptop, so drawing power from the laptop instead when phone battery is getting low.

I have never played with wm6 before, is there an in-built sip client for voip call? if so, does it work?

edit: Windows Live Messenger works on this ROM?

Thanks,

There is currently no voip program in wm6 rom but 6.1 will have. windows live messenger is working fine in my device, however some people resorted that it fails to set up the account. It works quite different from the wm5 one. One may need to use windows live to setup the account.

Hi helloworld1 !

Thanks for this ROM.
I was waiting since last October and the first news of the possibility to move to WM6 for rw6828.
Your release made my decision to upgrade. And it was OK !! Using a 1Gb Kingston mini SD.

I chose 20080305,b36.
There are just the minimum software I was expecting.

I was a little affraid, because first boot was a bit long. But everything is fine.
I have my BT headset ok, Wifi ok. Power consumption seems ok also. Photos are taken much faster.
It seems to be a little faster than the original HP rom, but it seems that it's an improvement of the cache management.
I didn't check yet if original HP bug of the audio loos after headset removing is still here.

The blinking green light for GSM activity is a bit slow. But that's not really a pain.

Thanks a lot !!!
Great job !

@calvinljh,
For WM6 we need ActSync version 4.5 or later. It wont work with previous 4.2 like WM5 does.Download from this page

Microsoft outlook 2003 works well with me.

What do you mean by this? The earpiece socket is problematic in 6828,so sometimes the system won't detect whether the earpiece is pluged or not. Is this what you described? Behold, it is a hardware problem and thus have nothing to do with the rom.

Hello Hellowworld1,

I took the plunge today upgrading my 6828 with your b36 ROM, All done successfully on a 512mb SD card, and took 13 minutes. After busy testing for more than half a day, the following are my findings, I am very happy I make the move, and will never go back to wm5 again.

(1) Push mail worked, I was very worried when setting up server source in active sync becuse the domain field is dimmed out, as I am suppose to fill in the domain name of my exchange server, luckily it worked even without the domain name, I think this is a bug as I can get the blinking prompt in the field but doesn't register any key presses, tried keyboard, transcriber etc. Anyway, it worked, so I am happy.

(2) GPS worked well, and render faster, tried with Tomtom, iGo, Naman Smart St and Mapking G10, all no problem.

(3) All programs worked well, except Crypto Card, a free eWallet program, I guess it's normal since the program is built for wm2003SE.

(4) I can't get Windows Live and Messenger to work at all, I tried it on wifi, usb and gprs, both programs returned "Windows Live was unable to establish internet connection..." How did you get it to work? mind share your settings? I don't really care about these, as they are useless anyway, but I am curious. I use Fring instead.

Everything else worked perfectly, well done!! I will keep this ROM for a long while.

Regards,

K

Hi... noticed you have fixed Windows Live etc with b39, this b39 with HP boot screen? :p

If I backup my b36 with SPB Backup, can I use it to restore to b39?

Bluetooth PAN simply refused to connect, when I pressed "connect" on the left soft key, it attempted to connect to gprs first, but reported saying couldn't connect to gprs and brought up the network setting dialog box. Is this a very tricky one to fix?

It is not easy for me to upload and I can not test whether you can update it with pc because I don't have a legal copy of windows. The other day I may write a small program to help you adding header.

You can format your card using different fat like fat12, fat16 and vfat(I personally uses vfat by utilising mkfs.vfat) to try again.

I am using Rom b36, the only bluetooth features that doesn't work is bluetooth pan, all other bluetooth features work perfectly, external gps receiver, handfree, obex (send receive files via bluetooth), bluetooth sync, all no problems.

i think bluetooth pan not working is caused by the internet sharing software... just my guess though.

Hi Bro, after install, nothing show. Can Guide me on this step by step, sorry bro i was new :pSorry, I replied wrongly just now.. hehe.
This hope u can do it,
1. Insert your SIM card.
2, Install the cab until finish. Then softreset your device.
The icon will show somewhere, either in setting>connection or maybe in programs I cant remember but there is
somewhere in your device)
3.Click on the icon, it will open and ask to select your country and carrier. Select yours and it will start to auto configure your connection.
4. After finish, it will ask u to softreset, do it.
5. Your device is configured. So u may remove the apps or keep it, doesnt matter because its done! Removing it may gain some advantage because it consume about 600KB in your windows folder. To remove go through normal setting>system>add remove programs.

You can simply flash and restore without much panic except some clean up in b39 will reverted.
I am not working on a further update, but I will do if anyone make a good suggest. Also the 6.1 major update will only occur if 6.1 is officially released and stable enough.
If you do not need the features in updated version, You can ignore some minor update. Old one means more tested.

Thanks for encouraging me. I think changing XIP/OS frequently is not very beneficial for common users 'cause they brings in more problems than merits. But I still appreciate these people who always get new OS build for us since it is their work that infusing new blood to the old device. I just follow these master's work by making a tiny fix.

The mediafire stores files in different servers, so you may encounter this problem. Try in another time and it will be fine.

I think I didn't say clearly. I mean I delete three unwanted file that reside outside windows folder in b39 and it takes (4k + 200k + 600k) space. You WILL restore these files. But this will not cause any problem because. The other changes take place in windows folder and your backup software WON'T restore.
any other file.

Yup, I know that .mp4 file, attempted to remove but couldn't due to it's part of the ROM. When backing up with SPB Backup, it reported that _Qhiddenpartition folder could not be backup, so I think it won't be restored as it wasn't backed up.

So far, I am really happy with the ROM, clean, tidy, stable, fast and no brand conflicts, it just looks as it's an official ROM. I will use this for another year at least. Too bad 6828 doesn't have 3G...

I don't use the camera all the time, so its not really urgent, but some advice on fixing it would be appreciated :)

The camera sometime flickers on b36 too, not sure about b35, but i doubt the camera has been touched, otherwise helloword would have listed that in the release note.

Do a soft-reset an it should be fine, although it is a bit temperamental.

Will move to b39 in the next 2 hours or so after I get home :)

I have just notice this problem. I do not use camera very much so I never take notice on this. Thanks for hinting me. I really never touch the camera but I thought it may have something to do with the HP bootscreen. I will flash several old rom to verify this bug.

I flashed to b39 yesterday, and tried the camera about 4 times (twice before restore and twice after, all done after a soft-reset), no flickers so far. Like I said earlier, on b36 I did experience the flickers, but it's temperamental, sometime I get it, sometime I don't, a soft-reset will fix it, I think it happens about 3 times out of 10.

Sorry if this question has been asked before... but would this ROM work on my MWg Atom Life (purchased from Expansys in the USA)? I'm having a lot of problems with the current ROM (which is an older revision that this).

Would I need to follow the same steps on my Atom Life in order to flash it?

Thanks in advance! :)

Just did a soft-reset on my device, kept getting stuck on the HP screen at one point which scared me a bit. But re-inserting the battery fixed it up again and the camera is now working as it should.

Thanks for the help :D

Hi,

(1) I have spb pocket+ too (installed on device memory), but never experience this issue, I have tried switching between themes (those 4 come with the ROM) back and forth more than ten times, still no problem. I also have Spb GPRS monitor, Spb Weather and Spb Diary incorporated into Plus, have zero problems.

So I'm guessing it may be your other softwares is causing the issue, not Spb? I'm running Spb Pocket Plus 4.02 the latest.

Did you install Spb P+ on device memory or SD card? It is recommended by Spb that you install P+ onto your device memory.

(2) I have no lag here at all, every key/stylus presses almost instantaneous and in fact, I have never experience this kind of quick responses from WM5.

Good news!! 8GB works on the b39 without drivers? Did you mean miniSD or microSD? Radio is fine on my 6828 with b39, remember you have to plug in your headset that comes with the phone, it uses that as antenna.

Seems like there's something wrong with my radio hardware.
It will sometimes tune to the wrong channel (example: Tuning to FM95.00 will give me sound from FM95.80, even though the software is showing FM95.00).

Flashed back to 1.01.03 WWE, and problem still exists.

/*I didn't check yet if original HP bug of the audio loos after headset removing is still here.*/
What do you mean by this? The earpiece socket is problematic in 6828,so sometimes the system won't detect whether the earpiece is pluged or not. Is this what you described? Behold, it is a hardware problem and thus have nothing to do with the rom.
Ok.
I wasn't sure it was a HW problem.
Since I flashed to b36 I didn't noticed this problem anyway.
But like some others, I noticed the camera flicker.
I don't remember if there was an icon notifying that there is a BT headset connected, on the today screen in WM5 ? There is no such icon in the new ROM.
Still, I don't regret the upgrade. Rom is stable and fast.

i just loaded b39 to my rw6828, overall thumbupssss to helloworld1, few minor issues encountered:

- there's an error "file specified not found" when u pick Ring-Standard .wma during setup wizard.

- Flash 7 not working with PIE, it always hangs when browsing site with Flash content. soft reset needed to resolve the issue. may b Flash 7 no longer compatible with wm6. anyone has experience?

- the bundled msyht.ttf doesn't display the asian words to my liking, i fallback to the version of msyh.ttf i used in wm5 which is 14mb+ compared to the 10mb+ bundled. here is the link (http://www.mediafire.com/?31dmtnnyzzs) to the file if helloworld1 would like to bundle this into next update :)

also, i wonder what version of .net was included in this rom?

Second, I didn't test flash 7, maybe flash lite 2 + opera is better.

Finally, I won't include the 14m font in my next update, sorry. The rom do not have enough space. I am interested in what glyph you cannot display in msyht(unicode extend a?)? Also this rom is intended for English speaking users.

After a close examination of the files in my installation folder reveals that I had placed the wrong version of ExtendedRom.img. The one I had used was obtained from nhocbanme's RUU file pack (which failed to execute with the ROM here.)

So I did the heart wenching thing of pulling out my usb cable and tried to restart it. As expected, the device fails to boot. So I followed the advice of restoring the brick state and as I'm writing this, its running the original hp flash program back to v1.01. Here's to hoping it goes well...

Phew... the flash back to default v1.01 was successful. Next thing I did was reflash your WM6 rom. The reflash was successful too and now I'm syncing my contents to the phone!

What a miracle escape. ;)

First impressions: WM6 is snappy. Way better than my fren's Tytn II when I played around with it last time.

Last word, great job helloword1! Just when I thought my 6828 has reached its end of usefulness (was eyeing Touch Cruise), you came along and extended the lifespan of this phone. With this update, looks like I can finally wait for XPEDIA X1 to launch.

Hi, I am really happy with the current b39 ROM, like helloworld1 said earlier, this phone is intended for English user, although I can read Chinese, and it's a nice touch to have an Asian font that cover most glyphs embedded in the ROM, however please let's not carry away by adding more and more things, otherwise this ROM won't be so Clean anymore. This is the whole reason I am sticking to this thread only, and I believe this is helloworld's first intend, ie to keep the ROM clean.

Ever wonder why this thread is not as long as others? it is because this ROM is so clean that produces so few problems, hence less people reporting problems, not that it is unpopular.

Keep up the good work helloworld!

Here's my step-by-step guide on flashing via PC. helloworld1 may wish to copy/paste at the front to help others in their quest to use this wonderful rom.

Check your Boat loader version
(do a soft reset, and check the value printed at the bottom during the HP logo screen)
If you noticed that the last line states BL 1.00.05, it means you have boat loader 1.05 installed. You will need to download and flash your phone back to 1.01 via http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=215348&prodSeriesId=1839223&prodNameId=1839228&swEnvOID=2067&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ip-45503-1
After successfully downgraded your phone's boatloader, or your version was already v1.01, you can proceed to flash your phone to the rom.

With the check done, proceed with the required files.

Go to http://www.mediafire.com/?cw91jweyyxz and download the file. Unzip the contents to a folder (except for diskimg.nr0, you don't need this).
Download the file pcupdate.zip on the first post of this thread and unzip the contents to the same folder you used in step 1.
Download the latest Rom file and extract to the same folder
Execute the addheader.jar program (takes a while to complete)
Move your phone to boatloader mode ( press the two - keys, follow by a poke at the soft reset hole with your stylus )
Connect the phone to the PC
Execute the Device Utility Update program and wait till it verifies the state.
Press Next to begin flashing.
Once completed, the phone will reset by itself. Wait for a while for it to startup.

I did my flashing on a WinXP Virtual machine (with activesync 4.5) running on WinVista.

Hi Helloworld,

Just flashed to b46, camera failed 100%.

After flashing, and a clean boot, the first thing i tried before doing anything else is to press the camera button, since the purpose of this release is to fix the camera, and it crashed the phone, i can see the camera buttons overlay on top of the landscape today screen, and that's it, won't react to any button presses.

So I did a soft-reset, same deal, but this time, it didn't hang my phone completely, just the camera buttons overlay the landscape today screen, no camera view at all, but i can still access camera setting etc.

Next I did spb backup restore, this time i get the camera view, but it just keep flashing, all the time, and everytime, doesn't matter how many times i soft reset it, and when i try take a photo, it just say "Capture image failed! (Read jpeg from stream)".

so the verdict is it seems more broken...?

I'm going back to b39 now.

Sorry hearing about that, the b45 is a direct update from b35 which has no camera problem. but b45 fails to include some updates from b36 to b39. It does not contains serious bug though. The camera is working without any problem on my device, so I posted these two updates. b46 is less tested, but it works fine upon now. Maybe I need to remove b46 version link to get some more test. Thanks for posting detailed bug report.

I'm going back to b39 now.

i hv similar problem when i installed Touch Commander (something like HTC Home Plug).

I just solved my problem with the active sync
and flashing b45 rom with b39

@calvinljh
do u happen to use eset nod anti virus?
just disable it and voila active sync will be able to connect

@helloworld
can u change the keyboard layout?
like the original hp keyboard with numbers at the top, cause this one making me revert back and forth between numpad and qwerty pad
I like the hp original keyboard
thank you for this WM 6.0 rom

Hi, did this happen right after you have flashed to b46 before install ANY softwares? I don't use Touch Commander at all, and this camera problem happens right after clean boot (first hard reset after flashed to b46).

Maybe I fails to fix the camera problem. I spend a whole night looking into this problem and flashes more than 10 times. I found out that my device fails to handle all my roms after b35. Earlier rom is not tested. The problem is camera works fine on the first soft reset but the device refuse to boot after third reset. Moreover I can not even spot the problem because these rom works well before. When I restore backup after first soft reset, the device works but camera is not functional at all. Strange enough.

Has anyone managed to get the WIFI to connect via WPA-PSK ?

I can't seem to connect, and I've also tried the popular method of start wifi -> add wifi -> connecting -> off wifi -> start wifi as stated in many other blog posts with WM6 but it doesn't work for me.
Finally managed to connect to my home router. Apparently disabling my Mac filter fixed it. The phone is now able to connect via WPA-PSK. Strange thing is that the Mac address in my filter is correct and before I flashed to this rom, it was working on my WM5. Hmm...

Hi, hmm... I've noticed something weird about the ROMs as well, I wonder whether it is possible that every flashing on the same ROM can be different? I'm saying this because I have had a small issue with my program (PhoneAlarm) on b39, when I flashed to b49 and found the camera is not working, so I then flashed back to b39 and restore from backup, that issue I had wasn't there anymore?!! and now I have more chances of getting camera flicker, before I could not reproduce the flickering at all? hmmm:confused: something spooky...

I also noticed that, sometime wired happens in flashing process, the same rom will get different result. b35 has no camera problem previously but now the camera fails completely.

OK... up until this point, the most stable ROM for me is the b39, after flashing back from b49 to b39, one of the small issue I had before now completely gone, but I got pretty frustrated with the camera as it keeps flickering... which it didn't happen as severe as before.

But good news is... after a series of consecutive soft-reset marathon, the camera seems to "stabilised" itself, I know this is illogical, but it happens, after about 5-7 soft-reset and keep trying the camera, the problem seems gone now, so I have good camera for at least 10+ consecutive soft-reset now, may be I will get the flickering camera next soft-reset, you never know...

So this is how I do it... If camera flickers, close it, wait about 5 seconds then soft-reset, when phone is booted, key in sim pin if you have it enabled, wait at least everything is loaded before trying the camera, so may be wait 1min then try the camera depends on how many programs you have installed, if camera still flickers, repeat the soft-reset steps above until you get the flicker free camera, once I got the no-flicker camera, it will start to become good... for a long time... hopefully forever.

Thanks for your detailed procedure, I almost forgot your thread, sorry. Now I put it on the second thread.

Hello everybody.
I experienced today the first annoying regression on this firmware upgrade.
Although my GPS works fine over BT, I cannot charge anymore in my car, using a standard (covertec non HP dedicated) USB car charger.
With the previous firmware (official HP) I had somehow to do a special workaround : go into power menu, change from fast charge to slow charge, and then back again to fast charge. But on this firmware the possibility to select charge speed has disapeared ?
Does anyone have an another trick ?
If I have a long trip to do, it is blocking for me not being able to charge in my car. Thanks for your advices.

I have noticed something has changed the usb as well, i have 5-6 usb cables, those that wasn't able to charge are now able to do so, and those that could charge now not able to charge

However those HP dedicated even though non HP genuine still work perfectly.

If the cable is detachable, try a different cable.

I still not regret about this upgrade. It still has more goods than the previous wm5 can offer.

I had the same problem with 3 different models of car chargers that plug into the cigarette 12V outlet. Turns out that they don't supply enough current to chrage the 6828.

I managed to buy a 1A version that has twin USB outputs while in Walmart in USA, and now it charges perfectly.

Helloworld, apart the usb car charger, everything is fine (on b36).

For the autoconfiguration, I'm in France and the operator isn't availabel, but I did manual settings. So no big trouble.

Hi, I'm on b39, the most stable ROM by far (to me anyway). I have no trouble at all with my external bluetooth gps receiver (QStarz or known as the i-Blue 737 I think), tried it with Tomtom, iGo, Mapking and Navman ST, all without problems, used on a trip lasted more than 1 hour+ fine.

But I never used Garmin XT, so it may be software/setup related.

As for Pocket Ringo, which I never used, but make sure the software is said to be compatible with wm6, since I moved from wm5 to wm6, at least one program I used on wm5 no longer work on wm6. All the said wm6 compatible softwares are 100% fine.

I know i can get all things done from another cooked ROM but I prefer to do it myself. May I know how to get HTC today's screen appz working? I've managed to d/l the HTC plus and home plugin... but not working. I really like the HTC big time display, and quick dial...

Would like any idea on this.
