I am a frustrated Psion series 7 and netBook user looking for a replacement for these wonderful machines.

I am now seriously considering the HTC Advantage or Athena although the screen is smaller than the Psions 7" at 5".

First of all, I am aware of the talk about the coming Shift but the price is beyond me, I'm afraid - and anyway, I WILL not use the Vista OS unless I really have to.

Question 1: Can any of you guys or gals suggest anything else instead of the Advantage as a suitable replacement for the Psion 7 or netBook?

Question 2: Is the Advantage instant-on? The Psions were amazing machines with instant-on, touch full colour screens and I wonder if the HTC can match that.

Many thanks to all who can help me - and indeed even to all who cannot help me for what I can see is a fantastic forum with tremendous user support and enthusiasm - keep it coming!!

Its instant-on after you boot and put it in standby. Even the bootup is fast, at about a minute, but you only do that in the morning.

You have to do some tweaking to ge tthe athena jusst right, like adding RealVGA to get full VGA capabilities. The 5 inch screen is just right because you can actually carry the thing with you all the time (ditch the case they give you and get a Tough-as-nuts case), unlike something with a 7 inch screen.

Not even then; I personnaly only boot when I soft reset, once in a blue moon... :-)

Or, even beter, an SKPad: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303364&page=4. =P

For all that you seem to want, I think the Athena will make you quite happy. But, as techntrek presented quite clearly, you'll have to tweak a little bit to make it "just so". :-)

Whatever choice you make, just stick to HTC, they are the best.
