Try Gsplayer (http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA032810/), a free winamp-like music player.
It has volume override control, switches off the screen to save power, supports playlists, has a sleep timer, an equalizer, and perhaps some more functions I'm forgetting right now :)
