Can't downgrade SPL on TMO MDA

I have a TMO MDA that was stuck at SPL 2.26 and now 3.08. I never had this problem before having successfully CID unlocked one TMO MDA and 2 AT&T 8125s in the past. I had the stuck SPL problem, but lokiwiz was able to CID unlock them anyway. This time lokiwiz2b doesn't work.

I have tried button ROM many times, Wizard Love, followed all the tutorials, and even tried flashing ROMs with IPL/SPL only and my SPL was stuck at 2.26 while IPL would change. I even made custom nbf files with nb2nbf and setting the CID as appropriate, but it made no difference so even having the correct CID in the nbf results in not being able to write to the flash. After messing around with it for about 8-hours, I got desperate thinking about once I flashed an 8125 to IPL/SPL 3.08 before unlocking it, and how its SPL was stuck at 3.08, but lokiwiz worked on it anyway. So as a last ditch effort, I updated to IPL/SPL to 3.08, reflashed button ROM, and tried lokiwiz. Nope, didn't work! So I think fine, I'll reflash TMO shipping ROM. I got an error "Upgrade Only, use a newer nbf". I had this problem with an 8125 before after flashing TNT whose OS was 6.0-something, but I downgraded to button ROM and could flash the OEM no prob, now it won't take the OEM and I'm on button 1.5.x. Weird! I tried other ROMs and no go. I am stuck on button ROM!

Anything else I can try? I'm guessing SPL won't downgrade, I actually thought about taking SPL 1.0x and hex-editing the version number to 3.09 or something like that so it can overwrite 3.08, but is there a checksum that needs to be computed?

Nevermind! I got an old version of lokiwiz to work. I don't know the "why" behind it, but here's what I did:

Remembering when I unlocked my other Wizards, I used lokiwiz on a Vista machine, I went back to the same Vista machine. It had the same old version of lokiwiz still on it. I tried that lokiwiz, and it was able to CID unlock my MDA that was stuck on SPL 3.08 and IPL 1.01. Now all is well. I don't know what version of lokiwiz it was, but it's an older one downloaded around October '07. I don't know if the machine being Vista is significant, but I doubt it.

So I guess if your SPL is stuck on too high of a version, use an older lokiwiz and it just might work!

I cant believe it.. IT WORKED! SPL @ 3.08 and i unlocked using lokiwiz .2b!! flashed the WM6 ROM and am happily lost in wonderland!!

That's pretty cool that you got 2b to work. I tried that version and it wouldn't work, I actually had to go older than 2b.

I know this thread has been dead for a while but this worked for me too lokiwiz .2b on a TMO MDA, that might give hope to someone else who's trying. I just had to redo the whole flash unlock dance about 4 times, but it finally worked. oh yea and Vista almost bricked the damn thing so i suggest doing the xp steps they seem to be more widely tested.

There's still another very fine option,in case its not possible to downgrade SPL to 1.xx and if its a mismatch.
"WST_2.2" tool has proved very successful in CID unlocking,but IPL 1.xx is eseential.
