Hi Moneytoo,

can you make it possible, when a new message arrived to be marked as read with a keypress?
So that the repetition of this message is off.

Greeting
Slide

I needed this as well. (So it's now in v0.2.2.3)
Entering email details menu (E-mail address/Subject (or SMS if there is any unread), position number 2 by default) on watch will disable all repetitions but the message will still stay marked as unread.

Hi Moneytoo,

First let me say "Thank You" for your fantastic software and all efforts to date. This has made the difference between basic features on a mediocre line of SE phones to advanced capability on almost any current WM device. I have just made a donation (cpappas) to help with future versions and hope you will consider the following questions and enhancements. Some of these have already been requested.

1. Like others, I find that appt. notifications are not consistant. I thought it was related to time zone or what appointments were currently displayed on Today screen, but this does not seem to be the case. How do you decide which and when appts are displayed on the watch ?

2. The menu editing capability and changing of positions is great. However, if we could customize the "stop" vs "play" functionality individualy for a particular menu item that would be fantastic. Example, menu 0, stop=messaging info, play=next appointment etc.

3. Add UsefilenameCaption like capability for all menu items. Example, as we push the volume button up or down to change menu, right after the volume indicator disapears, flash the caption (user editable) for that particular item before going blank. This would alow us to verify what item we have selected, before executing the stop or play function for that item.

4. Play function 0 (email sync) will only work once for me. If I try a second time (before stop/start of smartwatch) I receive error in log "cannot synchronize mail". I have 3 imap email accounts and cannot figure this out. Is this supposed to sync all email accounts ?
Also, what is the purpose and usage of the value "mail address" in the registry. Any ideas ?

5. It would be wonderful if the appointment function included an option to scroll through all of the appointments for the day, instead of just the "next appt", or "all day" appts.

6. REW for WMP like other users are looking for.

Best Regards,

CP

Maybe I could add some options for this. Have you checked how's the battery life with watch display permanently on?

aswaddington:
Thanks for your generous donation.

1. It should work but apperently it doesn't work 100% for evereone. I have no idea. I guess something rotten's in there.

2. I dont know. Most of the features are connected in pairs where play button usually means some action or launching something...

3. I have tried that earlier but this just doesn't work right. It makes the menu almost impossible to control.
I guess it could be probably done some other way but not that easy (so it doesnt have much priority right now).

4. It should switch all the accounts. It works both with one and two accounts (but should with three as well). I will test it (or send you some test version if I found anything). Anyone else having problems with it?

5. I thought I implement the REW button easily but It wasnt like that. Maybe I'm forgetting something... I will try it again some time soon...
Anyway, I think I could add some one way appointment browsing (now -> future, the possition could be reseted when other menu item is selected).

6. Same as point 5.

So... the UserFiles seemed like a really great idea! Except I couldn't actually figure out what they are good for that wouldn't be just as easy (or easier) to do on the phone.

Then the inspiration hit:
Vijay555 (a genius; see http://Vijay555.com) has a number of little utilities that do things like: dial your phone, send an e-mail or text, reset or lock or dim or unlock, etc., etc.

So I downloaded VJPhoneTools and set up a shortcut to VJDial.exe with my voicemail number as the argument, moved it to the SWM folder, and renamed it UserFile1 -- now I can dial Voicemail without touching my phone or using voice dial on my headset. Cool huh?

So now I'm thinking what to do with UserFile 2: Call home? Send a "Running late" text message to the office? Lock the phone? So many choices -- check out Vijay555.com. VJDialer has the phone and messaging apps; VJEscaton has reset options; VJDeviceLock has lock, screen on/off, etc.; and, in fact, VJKeyPress can emulate any keypress on the phone!

Not bad, huh? Now my only question is, Can we have more UserFile slots? We could then swap these in for functions we don't use (e.g., WMP in my case). Just a thought...

One other request: Would it be hard for SWM to read the current time (including time zone shift)? I travel across time zones, and this would be a handy feature. :) Otherwise, I can just shut it down and restart and all is fine.

And in conclusion: SWM is very nicely done! Thanks for all your hard work and attentiveness to user needs.

Way cool! Thanks for this tip WGary!

I have installed 0,2,2,3 paired the watch selecting a port. But it doesn't work. Port is com2. the problem I have is I cannot delete the port from bluetooth manager.

I have tried to uninstall and install again the software, but no way.

Do you know how I could delete the port without a hard reset?

note: smartwatch thinks the watch is paired and hasn't the option to delete the port and start again.

thanks.

Hi Moneytoo,

it is possible to make a double press on Play/Stopp button?
For example:
My favorite menu is email/sms. When I press the play button i always see the last email/sms. When it was possible to make a double press to set the last email/sms to "no new message" I often check this menu.

Can you tell me what the "mail address" entry in the registry is for ?

Also, with MBW-100, each successive press of the crown toggles between the "play" function and the "stop" function (unlike the MBW-150), and pressing and holding the crown is "FF" which is equivalent to "volume up" finction on MBW-150. I understand that this is a result of the commands sent by the watch and not your program, however, is there any way to change the mapping in your program so that "FF" sent, maps to "play" function and either "stop" or "play" map to "stop" function as compaired to MBW-150 ? I would not mind if I had to select which watch to use in the setup menu of SmartwatchM and/or restarting the program to change watches.

Thanks,

I upgraded radio to 1.57 but still no joy (see signature).
It leads me to think that the problem should be with some combination of rom + radio.
I'm evaluating to upgrade to the AP4.
As for now this is a one way process (no going back to standard HTC rom is yet possible, apart downgrading to a special AP3) do anyone has experinces with AP4 about battery duration of the MBW150?

Does it solve the problem?

I've read on the AP4 thread that someone have problem with ad2p and also with 2 devices connected (as soon as one communicate the other disconnects:eek:) is it a common problem with AP4?

based on my personal experience I can confirm you that the battery life only depend on the radio version. With ap3 or ap4 it is the same (minimum 2 days, but I cannot say the max because each 2 days I am charging. Now I cannot life without the watch and moneytoo program...)

That is what I'm expecting too, but my experience is that upgrading rom didn't improve the battery drain while from previous posts I can see that it improved for other guys with different rom than mine (especially AP3).
This lead me to think there are two options:
- Problem has relations also to my actual ROM
- My watch is defective (which would be the most obvious option, but as other users who had the same troubles I have, succeeded, I'll keep the option of servicing it the last one!)

I'm deeply convinced that moneytoo prog+ MBW150 is fantastic, but up to now as I cannot obtain at least a complete workday of autonomy for me is no use :(

Guys here my observations with AP4 platinum and the MBW-100.

Upgraded Radio to 1.57 and AP4.
Loaded SW 0.2.2.2
Watch lasted 4 days and I still showed half on the watch battery meter.
SW 0.2.2.2 crashed all the time, strange very long messages that I had never seen before, someting about a cab related to dot net I think, I will reload AP4 and save it.

Reverted back to the modified AP3.
Left radio at 1.57
Loaded SW 0.2.2.2
Watch lasts 3 hours and is dead

So from my testing it is something specific with the ROM
and not just the radio.

Curious about any more specifics with guys on AP3 and Radio 1.57 that are getting multiple days, is a post AP4 version of AP3 dual?

What software do you have loaded besides SW?

Guys here my observations with AP4 platinum and the MBW-100.

My MBW-150 works fantastic with AP4 so far, I found the rom excelent, wach battery has ben on three and a half days and show full:) previously it lasted less than 14hours , weather work out of the box both in the rom and in watch, so far no lost connections.
Even beter my HBS970 headset only stuters when query the watch for a few seconds, previously with AP2 it was unusable.
still playing with the new options from smartwatch but so far so good

so thanks to Moneytoo and AP4 team Iam much happier now with my toys

Hi MoneyToo,

Thank you for opening up the possibilities with the MBW-150!

I've got the watch and tried it out with my wife's Startrek. Most functions worked. ...I'm trying to get this work with a Startrek (Cingular 3125) while my Advantage goes to the shop. Which COM port? Other advice? I'm endlessly trying things but no success...

0.2.2.5 (20080429)

- added incoming port for motorola devices (btc5)

- added battery line on/off

- added force military time off
This is a bit tricky... For example: Instead of sending 15 hour, sWM will send 3. Result: The digital time/date may get out of sync when it's not connected to Windows Mobile.

- added userfile edit
You still cannot browse for your exe file/shortcut (maybe later) but this is definetely more user friendly than some regedit.

- added spb weather compatibility
Read the weather data from HKCU\Software\Spb Software House\Spb Weather\Settings\Cities\0

Still lots of things to do and improve I know... :)

hi moneytoo
I think something is wrong when update your application. This time I have uninstall previous version, delete port, softreset and install 0,2,2,5 but looks something wrong in the connection. I mean times when you softreset the device it cannot connect and say many errors.

In conclussion, when uninstall the registry values looks persisting ( I can confirm because the new installation is using same parameters as before with previous version-the userfiles for example-
In conclussion, best way to upgrade is after a hardreset.

Yes! Sorry, I did not choose the right port, now I have communications. Thanks!
You warned us about the fact that some features do not work on the 100 model. For me:

Caller ID works perfectly - 2 lines Name and number
I see the info of the song playing
I get warning on email arrival and sms

But I cannot control Media Player and I don't get the content of the sms, etc.

Is it normal or is it a matter of different configs, com ports, etc?

Even though, I am very happy with your sofware and of course the watch.

I've got some news for you:

Bad
- I've started but droped the translation/language support because of too much work, too much mess and more complicated updates

Neutral
- I received Bluetooth Vibrating Bracelet. It works just out of the box with Windows Mobile and notifies for incoming calls. I made a test call and the microphone and speaker on phone are still active so it's ok. I was planning to add support for messaging notifications but unfortunately it will require much more changes in the connection handling. So this is postponed for now...

Good
- I recommend you to install this free app for IM (ICQ, MSN...) - Slick (http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=slick). Something new is just around the corner :)
(Unfortunately IM+ won't be compatible with this method)
Does anyone of you uses MMS? I plan to replace MMS (0) with IM (0) in the main Messaging info screen. Is it ok with you?

Hi moneytoo:

I am very pleased with your sofware - beyong my expectations! Yes msn msgs will be great, other languages do not matter to me. I don't mind about mms.

Let me tell you how smartWatchM behave on my Wm5 Ipaq6955 with Mbw-100 watch, just for your info, since you look for perfection! :)

Issues:

I have it installed on the sd card, and when I reboot with the autostart feature, it does not work (file not found, or not trusted kind of message). Next version, I will install on the main memory, maybe that's the issue).

If I click on the x to minimise, there is no way I can reopen it, so I have to make sure I use the minimise button you provided.

It happenned that I had 2 instances of smartWatchM running, witch made my machine very slow and forced me to reboot. Maybe a line of code that will prevent this would be welcome.

Wills:

An option that will let me choose 1 line instead of 2 for emails, text msgs, etc.
An option that will let me choose the lengh of time messages are shown on the watch.

Anyway, I am very pleased with the way it works now!

I installed the msn, icq, etc. software you suggested, it seems very good! and faster to log on than the real msn, so I am very pleased, thanks!

Cheers!

Could someone (maybe moneytoo!) write a list of functions that work or don't work on the older mbw-100 and Fossil Abacus?
These older devices are availables for very low prices but I wouldn't like to buy one expecting great results and getting almost nothing out of it.
And what about btwatch? I'll post this on his topic too as I consider it quite usefull for people like me to decide which one to buy.
Thanks for the great app anyway!

I wrote this post because in the wiki is reported only "limited functionality" and is not said what the limitation is. I think that a table with functions and availability for every watch would be great. moneytoo already made a table with functionalities for the watch with the sony phones and with windows mobile ones. I was suggesting to make a similar table with different watches and thei functions in windows mobile.

The best functionality is with MBW-150. Oldest models are MBW-100, Abacus Caller ID Watch, etc.

Disadvantages of the oldest ones:
- browsing through the watch menu is forward only (and not much fast) (MBW-150 has volume control that makes it much easier)
- all watch screens display less text, only 96x16 pixels (MBW-150 has support for 192x16 scrolling text)
(*BTwatch by pcfixitman has aditional scrolling for text because he makes his app optimized for MBW-100. I'm thinking about it as well but it's not a current priority.)

Could you explain how to browse the menu on a Mbw-100, I do not master the technique ye! Thanks in advance.

And maybe you would know also how to control the MediaPlayer. For now, I can't.

More than three months of development, experimenting, debugging, UI designing... I have spent tens hours in the source code and even much more time actually using the application. There are less reports of fatal error and more happy users (I hope). IM was the last step. My dream is fulfilled... So let's get rid of the leading zeros and start with version 1. :D
(There is a update button in smartWatchM so the development still continues.)

Latest version: 1.0.0.0 (20080505)

- small fixes

- updated additional assemblies

- added IM notifications (Slick)
- added IM notifications (IM+)
History must be turned on in both programs to receive IM notifications. IM+ for Smartphones doesnt have history option so notifications can be used on Pocket PCs only. Slick is free and stable IM, so you can give it a try.
IM (0) is not implemented in the Messaging info screen because it's hard to determine whatever the message was read or not. IM notifications have no repetition. I will try some workaround...

- added automatized update
I dont know about you but I love reading news on the go, reply emails on the go... and update software on the go. :-)

- added detailed forecast (Spb Weather)
Thanks, ful babu.

I still prefer xda-developers anyway. :)

Yes, there will be GPS. It seems to work ok with internal GPS but there are some issues with BT GPS when you havn't got fix... As soon I solve this I will add the GPS support.

My problem is I am using the watch software with the HTC Polaris, fantastic software but my phone battery used to last 2 day on average use, now I get 14 hours with less use. It really seems as too large battery draining. Have you ever had connected any other BT device to your Polaris?
Only advice I have is to turn off the Appointment notifications. Just give it a try.

What do you mean by this?

-------------------------------------------------

I've made the IM compatibility for IM+ v5.1 which was released few days ago but they took it down and replaced by 4.58 again. Because of different history files (RTF instead of HTML in the new version), the IM+ notifications doesnt work.

What to do:
1) Wait for Shape Services to release 5.1 again
2) Use Slick
3) Wait for me to add 4.58 compatibility
4) Get the 5.1 trial (I have no idea whatever the 4.x will work or not, or the let you register this version...)

Here an update to the yet unresolved problem of MBW150 battery drain with 6.0, 6.1 rom and the Athena.
Installed wm6.1 from Irus full, set up MBW150 + smartwatch, tested it ... maximum 13 h, no joy!
Determined to service my watch, I was stopped from doing it just from the possibility of seeing back the watch not earlier than 1 month from now (sony ericsson service point has to post the watch to Fossil with no guarantees and not even an idea on repairing time).
Actually I'm still convinced that the problem is ROM/RADIO/software dependent as someone who experienced 12hr drains with one rom experienced a week or more with other roms, most of them WM5.0 (if it were a problem of defective battery/watch I should be experiencing much less than 12hr drain).

Anyone with Athena and a 6.0/6.1 windows mobile rom who is experiencing watch lasting a week or longer who could point me to his installed radio/ROM versions so that I could install them? I would be very grateful!

Have an Athena, which is being serviced, and using a Cingular 3125 in the meantime. Both work well with SWM, but the battery with Athena was barely a 12-hour day and I was wondering whether to send it back. But with the 3125 the battery hardly moves during the day, I can easily go several days without charging. Conclusion: It is definitely the ROM/Radio/etc. NOT THE WATCH!

AP4 is the solution, the only fact that stops me from flashing AP4 is that it is a one way process: no way to go back to standard roms before downgrade process will be released. Up to the moment there will be other options I think i'll stuck with recharging every 12hr, but at least you gave me hope!

[QUOTE=moneytoo;2185949]What do you mean by this?

What I mean is that while walking away fom my TyTnII I thought there would be a signal for lost connection on my watch, but there isn't. The program says: 'No data. Wait or press button on watch' When I return to my TyTnII eventually I see a message that the connection is re-established: 'The watch has been connected'. I think it's a big convenience to know when you are out of reach, so you are remembered that you left your phone. Do I expect too much or am I doing something wrong? Otherwise nothing more than compliments for your terrific program!

This is a function of all BT watch. You probably turned it off. It's the third icon ("Watch---Phone") in the graphic menu on the watch. The watch vibrates when the connection with a phone is lost. I hope this is what you're looking for.

New version has just arrived - 1.0.1.0 (20080525).

- added tray icon
Tray icon has two functions - 1. Indicates the connection state of BT watch (gray = disconnected, colored = connected), 2. Can be used for launching/unhiding sWM (tray icon is visible on both PPC/SP but only Pocket PC users can touch the icon). As always, this feature can be turned on/off in the menu.

- added IM notification support for Agile Messenger
A little bit pricy but great messenger. Agile Messenger (http://www.agilemobile.com/). Should work on both PPC/SP.

- added IM notification support for Mundu IM
Another cool messenger. It's cheap an has nice fieatures as displaying avatars. Mundu IM (http://messenger.mundu.com/). PPC/SP

- added IM notification support for PIGEON!
Amazing messenger for ICQ network only (freeware). PIGEON! (http://pigeon.vpro.ru/). PPC/SP

- added weather support for SBSH PocketWeather
Finally. :D SBSH PocketWeather (http://www.sbsh.net/product.php?id=32). PPC/SP

- added weather support for Chome Weather
Cool application by OrganicM. Weather as another sliding panel for Smartphone (WM 6.1 ). Chome Weather (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392517).

- added support for MoDaCo AppToDate
Application with great potential, checks for application updates. I hope more developers will support this. More at AppToDate (http://apptodate.modaco.com/), made by Paul.

- added dotted line when charging (battery line)

- fixed startup shortcut (non English WM)

- fixed email sync in background

- small fixes

This is probably related to the PockePC standby issue which hasnt been resolved yet. (It affects this, repeated notifications and appointment notifications)
Try setting shorter notification interval (0.5 or 1 minute) and larger display timeout (1 or 2 minutes) until this will be fixed.

Just set the notifications to repeat. This should work fine.

I have it to repeat.

Sometimes the disconnect is longer then the repeat time.

It would be good if the message was sent if a connection is existing.

hi thanks for the reply

yes i can use the green call key on the phone to toggle the loudspeaker but pressing and holding the left middle doesnt produce any result except lighting up the screen and if i go to the smart watch menu while in a call and hold down that button it says:

"Time sent
Play/pause button pressed"

And thanks for looking into the mute.

also is it possible for you to add the function of controlling the htc audio manager with the watch not just wmp?

ending/answering a call with the watch would also be a good feature

Thanks in advance

Can This Work With A Sony Erricson K608i Phone It Would Be Cool If It Did !!!!! I Know It Doesnt But I Use Mine With X51v As A Remote It Would Be Cool If My Phone Could Display Track Name Etc.....

being a Sony watch, it is no real surprise that it works with Sony phones out of the box !! primarily newer sony phones as I understand it ! (including full music control)

Works fine on WM6.1 on my Vox.

I do have a question however, I noticed you indicated you received a vibrating BT bracelet, I've got one being sent to me - does it work for vibrating on incoming SMS by itself? If not, have you added the functionality into smartWatchWM as it seemed you were going to?

Thanks. Keep up the superb work man.

Does anybody know if this new fossil watch is compatible with smarthwatchM

http://www.fossil.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=12052&catalogId=10052&categoryId=30016&parent_category_rn=30001&productId=22010065&Ne=25&N=4294959642&No=48&imagePath=FX6002

It looks like the abacus, so technically it should be compatible right?
I know this thread is based off the MBW-150, but do all the features work for the MBW-100? Besides the look and design - is there anything technologically different between the watches?

Hi I have just bougt the abacus watch and I manage to install the software in my Athena but I noticed that the battery of the watch drains very quickly it does not last for a day, I am using the radio version 1.47.51.00 and the ROM is the original the 2.19.453.4, do you think that if I upgrade the radio I could obtain a better battery liife?.

Also since it is the Abacus watch it only has two buttons is there a way that when I receive a message I can scroll it in order to read the complete message in the watch? because right now when I receive a message I see only the first part of it in the watch, I also tested the Btwatch software an it has an autoscroll feature so the message is displayed complete, is there a way to enable something like that for this kind of watch or is it possible to enable a button in the watch in order to view all the message?

Thank you and congratulations for this great software.

If for you battery drain is an issue like for me, downgrade to wm5 and you'll get 2 weeks of watch's batteries.
AP4 is reported to be good on battery but is a one way ticket (you can't downgrade to standard roms) and has problems.
Watch's battery life on other recent roms has not been reported.
Upgrading radio to 1.57 will not help.

Looking at my signature which is right over your mail anyway would have saved you a question.

v1.0.1.2 (20080616)

- added start hidden option on/off (PPC)
Enable this to do not siplay smartWatchM window no matter the watch is connected or not. Available only on PPC, tray icon must be enabled.

- added startup delay option
Add few seconds delay if you receive IOException because smartWatchM opens the port too soon after system start.

- added Samsung backlight fix (test)
The backlight goes on every time you push a button on the watch. Enable this option to put your Samsung device into sleep mode instead of standby. Then Samsung may need press the power button twice to wake up. Tested on Samsung i780. I will test Blackjack I/II later.

- fixed Arabizer compatibility
This should fix wiaza100's issue.

BTW: I have switched from HTC S730 to Samsung i780 as my default device so this will probably motivate me to fix the appointments. :)

Sometimes the watch may get crazy so try reseting the watch first (enter pairing mode, then press&hold top right and bottom right keys until the display changes) and pair the watch witch WM again. If it wont work just try deleting watch from BT manager, delete the COM port from BT manager and few restarts.

I have done some fixes and the repeat should now work on Pocket PCs. (Download the latest version 1.0.1.1)

I dont. :-) Maybe someone sometime... But it should be possible to make similar application for Symbian. Same with Blackberry (I guess).

I was thinking of some technical demo in Java but this has no practical use because you cannot intercept SMS or anything like that...

My collegue done some basic app for Palm but he hasnt released it yet... I have to talk to him. :)

Has there been any progress with the Palm application. I would certainly be interested in trying it out.

moneytoo,

Firstly, saw your great program, bought myself a MBW-150 and am lovin' it! Great work! :)
I have two minor issues with MMS (yes I do use that) that I haven't seen reported, so:

When I receive an MMS,
1) my watch registers one new Email, not a new MMS.
2) MMS details are not shown. The notification on the watch is just the envelope, no details afterwards (so not like the MMS test command).

Using an o2 Trion / HTC TyTN with WM6, the MMS app is ArcSoft's MMS Composer v3.5.2.24C.

Any ideas? Registering MMS as MMS and not Email would be great!

Many thanks,

N.

Hi moneytoo. Here's an idea...

How about user generated notifications ? For example, you could monitor a registry key and if it changes its value, you could trigger a notification with display on the watch ? For example... monitor HKLM\Software\Soft\ "Update" and "TexttoDisplay". If "update" changes from its previous value, then read what's in "TextToDisplay" and display it on the watch a scrolling message ? Hey if you could do this... I would donate another $20 to you... I still use the "dont show senders name in email" option every day :)

I had similar idea lomg time ago. I havent used any registry watching so this could be a bit tricky for me. A lot easier (for both me and probably other developers as well) could be following scenario: Create, edit, or copy text file to smartmadsoft\smartWatchM\ext folder and the content of this file would be automatically loaded and displayed on the watch. First and second line separated by new line. Add some vibrate / not vibrate option.. How about this? Is this ok with you?

NRGZ28
2nd July 2008, 10:56 PM
Hey that would be great if you could that! I'll take anything :) The registry method would be more "elegant" IMO, but it's up to you. It shouldn't be too hard to write a subroutine that checks two registry keys every few seconds and then takes action if they do... is it ? I mean you're already pulling info from the registry for your Options...

Version 1.0.2.0 is available now.

- added close connection option
This will enable device option menu without restarting application.

- added bluetooth on/off setting

- added external (3rd party) notification support
More info below.

- fixed compatibility with new version of Pigeon

- minor fixes

------------------

External (3rd party) notifications

This allow anyone to create their custom notification - vibrate the watch, display envelope and two lines of text.
To display this notification, just create or edit any *.txt file in smartWatchm\ext directory. (Read the smartWatchM directory from HKLM\Software\smartmadsoft\smartwatchm, Path).
To display the two lines, save these two lines (separated by new line) as a content of this txt file.
To customize the notification, put any of following commands in the filename. (For example My_notification_EnvelopeOn_TextOff.txt will display only envelope and vibrate.)

EnvelopeOn - display envelope and vibrate (cannot be turned off)
EnvelopeOff (default) - not to display envelope

VibrateOn (default) - vibrate
VibrateOff - not to vibrate

TextOn (default) - load and display content of txt file
TextOff - not to display any text

------------------

Awesome man! Quick question... How does your app know when that file gets modified, deleted, etc.. Or how does your app know when I create the file with the specified parameters ? Does it poll the directory every few seconds or something and compare the old file vs. the new file.. or how did you make it work ? :)

Just thought I'd share this with my fellow Sony watch wearears... Today I opened up the watch to change out the vibrate motor. The stock one is weak and it might as well not be there, I could never feel it. I had an old Tmobile Samsung T219 phone that I no longer needed and was going to throw away. I opened it up and took its vibrate motor, which is a lot more powerful than the one in the watch. I wedged in it between the bottom left corner of the watch and the battery, connected the two wires to the pads underneath and removed the stock motor. Now I have a watch that can actually notify me of things... instead of constantly having to wonder if.. (was the a vibration ?! I better check anyway).. :D

No matter what I do, I can't it to notify me of anything.... I tried copying the file into the directory with SWM running, editing the file... etc. What am I doing wrong ?

P.S. It seems that the new behavious of the "Hide" softkey when SWM is open is to actually hide the application. Before it was more of a minimize. Do you think we can go back to actually minimizing ? :) And another thing, I noticed that if SWM is already running and you open it a second time, you have two instances running. Maybe some type of self check is in order... :) Thanks.

Do you put the text file in smartmadsoft/smartWatchM/ext directory and not in the smartWatchM directory itself?
I could check it on Dash soon. I could probably add some error messages as well or send you some tool for test. (I will see...)

You can minimize the application selecting Minimize, pressing home or back key (SP) or pressing ok or the [x] button (PPC). So the default action for left soft key should be hiding the app actually. It prevents from closing the app by system as well.

I have watched some tutorial that shows how to prevent from running two or more instances of the same. This shouldnt happen normally, only under some courious cases. I have never seen this but I may add such checking.

hi

first of all i have to say 'TUMBS UP' for this cute piece of software. i used it now for two weeks and its really nice because my 'phone' is a htc advantage and i dont need to pull this giant out of my bag anymore just to see who is calling or be reminded to appointments and arrival of messages.
the issue with the drain of battery happens also to my mbw-150 (tested with advantage wm6 radio 1.50 and 1.38) but didnt mind me that much, because i have to recharge the advatage every day, so i charge a second device. downgrading to wm5 to stop the drain is no solution anyhow, but it shows that the problem is the bt-stack of the ameo not the programm.
the only 'bug' so far is that somtimes the connection to my bt headset is cutted off, in the middle of a call. i testet this with a jabra 3030 and a nokia bh-500. i pickup the call talk for a while and suddenly the headset signals a lost connection and i hear the caller at the speakers of the phone. i have switch the call back to the headset manualy with the phone's software, to get the call back to the headset. but this may also be a problem of the advantage bt-stack.

so overall a big thankyou again, there will be some bucks that make there way to your account. i cant wait for new versions and features, (and a better bt stack on the advantage ;)) madbird.

The same thing happens with my Mogul/Titan/PPC-6800. When I first started using this app with WM 5 on the phone, the watch would lose its connection every minute or so. That was fine because it didn't interfere with my phone call on my headset. Ever since using WM 6 and 6.1 ROMs, the watch keeps its connection but the headset loses its, which is a much worse situation.

From everything I've read, it seems to be the newer Bluetooth stack in the newer versions of WM that causes the issue. I have learned to disable Bluetooth on the watch when a call comes in. Hopefully one day, a new Bluetooth stack will fix this.

I have just updated the latest release. Download the latest version again. I have made tiny little change that could possibly fix that (but I'm not sure, I dont have a headset).

If it wont help, I could add option to close connection during call to avoid disconection. Unfortunately a key press is always required to reconnect the watch.

I hope the new version will fix it, although I'm in Poland for a while, and can't test it, because my Sprint phone doesn't work here anyway. Just in case it doesn't, could you add the option to close the connection during calls anyway? That would definitely cure the problem, and I would be more apt to leave Bluetooth running on my watch. :)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lm-Technologies-Bluetooth-Watch-Classic/dp/B000WZAI8W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1215853162&sr=8-1

Apparantly its cheaper, and maybe less bulky too?

I wonder if its compatible with SE "serial profile" protocol, i think big chances it should be since its supporting SMS notifications that are not in the standard handsfree profile.

I'm taking a note.

According the comment on the Amazon product page it doesnt use the SE standards but it connects as headset/handsfree. I have the Bluetooth Vibrating Bracelet which should be very similar but it doesnt work with SMS neither.

It defenitely displays SMS notifications (its in the manual), but for *some* (SE) handsets only.

Thats why I thought it must at least partially use SE protocol, as I know no other way to get SMS notifications thru in "standard" way - I dont recall anything about SMS in Handsfree/Headset BT profiles.

I have this LM watch. I haven't been able to get it to work with smartwatch yet. However, it sort of works with btwatch. If you pair WITHOUT using the hands free profile, it will vibrate when a call comes in (No CID though!), and then you can answer with your phone or bt headset without problems.

It's OK, but it does drain the battery fast. I'm thinking of getting an abacas watch from expansis for about $140 and having more functionality.

I'm using an Athena 7501 with factory rom.

Drain the battery on the PDA or on the watch itself?

And can you tell the dimensions of it? The Abacus/SE ones are awfully big (they look like ordinary watches but about 1.5 times the size).

Hi.. What would it take to get this to work with the Bluetooth headset from Sony?

Same display... same functions... same manufacturer....just need to get it to accept pairing with it though the app..and then all should be same....right???

I'll beta it with pleasure...

The device is found as HBH-DS980 ....

My dad bought the MBW-100. Definitely more elegant and classy (for the business type). It weighs more, because it has a metallic strap instead of a polyurethane one. The ONLY TWO TECHNICAL DIFFERENCES compared to the MBW-150 models, is that the MBW-100 doesn´t allow you to see the track name on the OLED display and that there is no "previous track" switch... source (http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=161392)

This Means no extra features will be usable because I use the "track name" for text output from Windows Mobile (so no text will be visible, only envelope when receiving message and caller name on incoming call).

Sorry if this has been answered in the past - but I was just wondering what extra features are not usable by the MBW-100? Can you be more specific, will I not be able to use SPB weather with the MBW-100, etc?

I understand that you have an Athena, if that, than you should change the rom, the bluetooth stack is the cause for the draining, you can use ap4, ap5, taxist rom: 5-7 day battery life for your watch

Moneytoo,

I'm just trying to pair with an LG KS20. I put my watch into pairing mode and start "Discover and pair".
Now, as soon as I do that, the program will say "Cannot find any unpaired BT watch."

I've master-reset my watch about three times not, so it should be unpaired for sure.
I have a feeling that the app doesn't really search for watches because the "Cannot find"-message comes up pretty much immediately after I hit "Discover and pair"... Could it be the non-MS bluetooth stack? Someone reported that your great program worked just fine with Broadcom/Widcom stack in Motorola's Q9.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

N.

The auto pairing feature works only with MS Stack. The main communications with the watch is using COM port so it's Stack independent. All you have to do is to pair the watch using the default Bluetooth manager. Then add new incoming/inbound COM port. If the selected port is not listed in sWM menu, edit the registry key manually (go to hklm\software\smartmadsoft\smartwatchm, edit incomingport item). Then restart your device and try the connection. Yep, this works on Motorola. I dont have any access to LG so I cant try.

miguel_acedo
Probably some issue with BT Stack. Is original ROM ok?

cell_crazy
Yes, SPB weather will work. The menu control is crazy but it it will do.

Im not sure if the headset uses serialport connection. Headsets are usually connected using different services. But I could add a HBH-DS980 to the list of accepted devices so you could try. I will see.

miguel_acedo

I tried first with the original ROM and I have the same result that is why I try to use a different one, the ROM I am using right now works great except for that problem with the battery, the other ROMs that the people in the forum suggestme needs to change to SLP 3.5 but I am not shure about doing that.

So is there a chance to change only the bluetooth stack without changing all the ROM, or maybe a parameter at the register that I can modify?

Thank you

Moneytoo,

thanks a lot for the quick reply! Sounded good, but ...

NightcookieAll you have to do is to pair the watch using the default Bluetooth manager.

... now I'm running into problems at this early stage. Bluetooth Manger can see the watch but says it's unable to connect because the watch doesn't provide any supported protocol. I tried connecting manually but have to choose between High Quality Audio, Headset, PIM Sync, ActiveSync, Send Files, Connect to Network, Connect to PAN, Exchange Business Card, or Set Up Keyboard. That's it, and none of these is able to connect to the MBW-150. There's a "Examine BT device for supported profiles" option, but that doesn't recognise any supported profile in the watch.
I think that's odd because I can see in the BT settings that Serial port connections should be supported ...

What do I do?

hi after some weeks of using the new version (including a business trip), i can say that the problem with dropping the bt connection while a call is in progress is nearly gone for me, before it was 2 times a day, now it happens 1 time a week.

sometimes the bt stack seemes to crash anyhow (when not in a call), in that case i have the following ways to recover:

1. switching off/on the bt headset and the watch, helps in 90% of the time.
2. switching off/on the bt on the advantage, is helpfull if the headset reconnects but not the watch.
3. switching off/on the headset the watch and the phone, helps in 100% of all cases, but is the most work.

on the battery drain isue, i can say that it dosent matter if i get 3 or 30 'events' on the display of the watch, the watch is empty after a day. really seems to be an issue that the advantage btstack keeps the connection to the watch alive in a way that the powersaving functions of bt at the watch, wont become active.

hope this helped, greetings mad

*edit*: i think that the rest of the probs are from the btstack that the advantage uses in wm6.1., it seems to dislike sony products, a sony hbh-ds-220 bt headset (used alone without other bt devices like the mbw-150) makes the same crashes of the advantage btstack.

I just returned from a month long business trip in Poland, where my Sprint Mogul didn't work for anything but an alarm clock. I installed the latest 1.0.2.0 and although I've only made a few phone calls, I have to say that I haven't experienced any BT headset dropouts at all, nor have I lost the MBW-150's BT connection while on the phone either. So far, I would say your "tiny little change" has made all the difference in the world! :)

I have never had any battery issues, and am still showing a full charge on my watch after two days of minimal use with BT on.

Sorry to have to make this update. I use the same BT headset for the Cisco soft phone on my laptop, and noticed a lot of static during phone calls. Then I made a call with my PPC-6800 and noticed the same thing. I had missed it earlier, but the MBW-150 watch was losing and regaining its BT connection while this was going on.

For now, it looks like the best solution is if Moneytoo can add the functionality to turn off BT on the watch during phone calls. I'll still have to remember to do it manually while using the Cisco soft phone though.

Yeah I know, I've read that, but the problem is that I cannot pair using BT Manager. Just like you said in post #901 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2100698&postcount=901):

The good news is I have access to Motorola Q9h so I can play with it from time to time. I dont know how's that happened but now I can pair the watch using BT Manager (it didnt work earlier). (But cannot assign COM port because the watch doesnt support SDP)
I will try to find some workaround for Widcomm (I got some ideas).

I seem to have the same issues that you encountered first. That's why I said a couple of posts up:

Bluetooth Manger can see the watch but says it's unable to connect because the watch doesn't provide any supported protocol."

I've read around a bit, and it seems the Bluetooth Manager does not connect because it sees no supported service. Like you said, MBW-150 does not send Service Discovery Protocol. As the watch isn't telling the phone that it supports serial profile, the phone doesn't know what to do with it and will not pair.

Any ideas? It would be so great if I could pair my phone and my watch, I'll be happy to try the workaround you provided for COM port setup.

Many thanks,

N.

Can you replace the BT stack? I donk know much about it but I heard of some people that replaced their BT stack.
Maybe you could use some other software that has Widcom/Broadcomm BT capabilities to pair using it. (Just an idea)

I currently have a HTC p4000 (HTC titan) http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=770&view=1

I do have the lastest rom that HTC offers on their site. Could someone please help me fix battery drain issue. I have no idea what I have to do to change or install "stacks" or if I need to install a new rom. I am very new at this and I do not want to brick my phone.

New version has just arrived - 1.0.1.0 (20080525).

- added weather support for SBSH PocketWeather
Finally. :D SBSH PocketWeather (http://www.sbsh.net/product.php?id=32). PPC/SP

hi i use pweather 2.0.6 3342 and it works well on the phone, but on the watch when the stop button is pressed the watch only display:
Today: 'the name of the selected town'
High:* Low:*

or on playbutton:

Tommorow: 'the name of the selected town'
High:* Low:*

so it reads the name of the town corectly but fails with the rest. is there somting i missed?.

another fine (and free) way to get the weather info was a script written by schettj (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1814195) that is written with (the also free and fine ;)) mortscript (http://www.sto-helit.de/index.php?module=page&entry=ms_overview&action=view&menu=29), it was written to set the weather for the s2u2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=353008) programm. maybe it is possible to support it in smartwatch, for those who dont want to spend money for some simple weather info.

Most probably it is caused by BT Stack/power management/software/registry settings (who knows) but it IS the ROM issue. Other ROMs may be ok so I recommend you to try other ROM or wait for other users responses. 99% it's the ROM problem, not defective watch.
2 hours charge and 3-14 days is the usual battery life.

Thanks for the reply moneytoo,
It's good to hear you say that you think it's most likely the ROM - but I just want to rule out that the watch isn't defective because if it is I have to return it quickly.

I charged the watch completely and used it again for second day. It worked perfectly throughout the day - the battery display on the watch showed a full charge, but again on the 13th hour the watch vibrated and notified me it was disconnected, smartwatchM displayed "Error 002" and then the watch no longer had power in it. Even the analog watch no longer moved - because it no longer had power.

Several questions Can you please let me know what Error 002 is, would that cause the battery drain or are you pretty sure it's ROM?
Why would the watch display full battery power and then suddenly die - wouldn't it display battery drain
If it is the ROM why is it causing drain on watch but not the battery life on HTC seems fine

I have been using this program since a long time now.
Every time I flash a new rom / buy a new device, I need to reconfigure everything and espcially troublesome is the com port setup part.
I hv seen pcfixitman's alternative - btWatch and it seems that developement is stopped, but his 'connection and setting up watch' part is very easy and does not require any com port settings.

Can anything be done for this ? Can we also take a backup of our menu setting so that it can be easily restored ?

Charge full your watch, disable bluetooth connection over it.
This way your watch should last from two to four weeks before the watch's arms stop. If it lasts less service it!
I would suggest starting to navigate your device's forum and flashing the latest ROMS ;)

cell_crazy:
Yes, it's not the watch but neither smartWatchM. This errors are only notifications (sms, calls, missed calls) that couldn't be send because the watch wasn't connected or the connection wasn't opened.
The battery drain is caused by your BT Stack / ROM / some setting - I dont know - If I knew, I would fix it (but it affects only a small number of devices).
To prove it, connect your paired watch to your device without running smartWatchM. The watch battery shoulld be drained in a similar time.

shaileshashar:
Making the connection similar to btWatch is one of my targets. I've tried but it's not that easy as handling COM ports. Anyway, using COM ports has one big advantage - it's BT Stack indepentend (only need is to pair the watch and create a port). If I learn how to do it, I will make it. :)
To backup the menu and other settings, just export registry keys from HKLM\Software\smartmadsoft\smartwatchm.

gtm55:
Are you sure it's caused by smartWatchM? This behaviour is usual caused by power management on devices such as Samsung Blackjack (I, II, III... this is the Samsung Backlight fix that turns of backlight but I'm looking for better solution) but HTC should be ok. Now you can call directly from BT Watch

Without the use of mobile

Through the use of free software ( vjphonetools2 )

And linking them with ( Settings - Other - userfile Edit )

Can allocate 5 contact numbers

Hello there,

i already have 2 registered ports for bluetooth inbound (com7) and outbound (com8) on my FSC T810... I am not realy sure if the BT stack is compatible with the application (but i think i read that the stack does not matter anywhere) and the watch. The about page on Bluetooth tells me that i have BT-PPC/PE Version 1.7.6 Build 0500 (c) Broadcom) on the device.

The software does not activate bluetooth when i activate it via the menu and the device search does not even start... I am getting to the point where i think, it might not be working with my device.
I tryed to make every setting like described in this thread but nothing worked.

can anyone provide me with a solution or at least some help.

best regards
chozilla

The Bluetooth switching option works only with Microsoft BT stack.

The smartWatchM software cannot pair the watch. You have to pair the watch with your device using the default (Broadcom) BT manager. Have you done that? Have you tried restart after that?

Maybe you could try disabling outbound port or setting different com port. Still, there could be some problems but if you are able to pair the devices then it is usually ok.

thank you for the answer.
I got it paired i will try to get everything else working.
I guess that was already the biggest problem :)

chozilla,

could you post a step-by-step guide about how you managed to pair your device with the watch?

I've been trying desperately to pair a device with Broadcom stack (LG KS20) but always get an error message (from a service called "btwizardprofiles") that "no supported BT profile can be found". Moneytoo and me had come to the point where we thought pairing through a Broadcom stack was impossible :(

Screen01 below shows the BT devices my BT Manager can see. Note that it has recognised the proper service protocol for a headset, a computer or another mobile. I had some difficulty pairing the NavOne 3.0 GPS receiver, but in the end it recognised a serial connection. The only thing that it will not recognise is the MBW-150. Screen02 shows the error message I mentioned.

If you managed to pair a WM 6 Professional device with Broadcom stack, that would really be a ray of hope!

Much appreciated!

I have just tested it on some HP iPAQ (WM 5) with Broadcom BT stack (version 1.7.1.9401). It has exactly the same interface as on your screenshots and gives the same error. Anyway, there seems to be two ways how to connect BT device.
So just start "Bluetooth Manager" and instead of clicking "New", select "Menu -> Paired Devices". Then click on the "Add" button, search for available devices, enter passkey and voila... :) The Serial Port is found automatically. There are activated both inbound/outbound com ports by default. COM4 is the inbound (Incoming) port on my device.
The connection basically works.

------------------------

I released new version today (1.0.2.2), mainly because some fixes. I was hoping I finaly resolved the Samsung backlight problem but there seems to be very ugly behaviour - if the "Samsung backlight fix" is enabled, everything works ok, except turning of screen during incoming call ringing and there is no way how to accept the call. So better dont enable this if you want to recieve incoming calls on your Samsung. I will look for a fix but this Samsung specific behaviour makes me really angry.

Not sure if anyone on this forum can help me (but I'm hoping)
My watch is connect to my HTC and was working perfectly, it still connects but and is able to display the information - the problem I'm having is that the watch no longer vibrates whenever it receives information (calls, texts, out of range warning)
So unless i happen to be looking at my watch when someone calls, I'd miss the call cause it no longer vibrates.

I can't seem to find any information - but did I somehow disable vibration on my watch? and is there someway I can enable it again? or is the watch faulty?

Does the "vibrate" command work? There is an envelope displayed on the watch menu (2nd item out of 4) and this item can turn on/off part of notifications - but it has only affect on messages, not on calls.
Maybe you could even try hard reset the watch (press top right and bottom right button long time when syncing)...

Yes Moneytoo the envelope on the menu is enabled. All the test commands in smartwatch send data to watch, but it does not vibrate. I have master reset the watch as well, still not vibration. Am I out of luck?

Has anyone tried this in conjunction with PhoneAlarm? I'm tempted to pick up an Abacus AU6001 watch (available for $70 or so locally) and use it with this application, but I *depend* on PhoneAlarm and I'm not sure I can return the watch if they don't play together well.

Thanks in advance!

Hmmmm...I went home and plugged in watch and now the vibrate seems to work, but when I unplugged it did not work. So not sure if it's a battery issue, I will fully charge and hope it works.

The thing is the watch displayed half charge remaining - so perhaps the vibrate needs full charge to work properly, that or my battery is displaying more power than it actually has.
Moneytoo would this be the cause?

Moneytoo,

I don't know if I should be overjoyed or deeply embarrassed. I simply didn't know that.
You're the man - IT WORKS! How great is that!! smartWatchMobile finally is back to my device, and I don't have to sell my watch any more!
So, thanks a thousand for this piece of advice!
:):D:):D

Maybe you want to add these instructions to your first post?
No guarantees for Broadcom stack, but at least you've managed to do it on an HP Ipaq WM5, and I can confirm for an LG KS20 WM6, supposedly both running Broadcom BT stacks. I've run through nearly all commands, and they seem to work. Will explore overall stability throughout the day now.

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!

Richard,

I've been using smartWatchMobile together with phoneAlarm on both my old and new device, and they coexist just fine. pA profiles still work nicely, and messages and alerts show both on phoneAlarm and on my watch. Neat.

Is the AU6001 the equivalent to the MBW-150, ie does it have buttons on both sides? If not, I'd recommend that you consider putting in a bit more money and get a MBW-150. It gives you so much more options with moneytoo's great application.

Great to hear, thanks!

I think the AU6001 is the equivalent of the MBW-100?
http://i.expansys.com/i/b/b141661.jpg

I thought the MBW-150 was closer to $300 US? That makes it over 4x the cost of the AU6001 - which is already more than I want to spend on a gizmo I figure I won't wear very often....

Agreed that it sounds like a much better implementation though!

Thanks again,
Richard

Richard,

I think the AU6001 is the equivalent of the MBW-100?

That's what I thought, but in a quick google I didn't see any pictures showing the left side, where the extra buttons should be.

I thought the MBW-150 was closer to $300 US?

You're probably right there for the US. A MBW-150 Music goes for the equivalent of 150-200 USD in Euroland (and I have one lying around here), but with P&P that's probably more than you want to spend.

Having said that, I wear mine every day :)

Cheers,

N.

Sprint mogul user. Saw watch months ago. Dreamed of, but had no idea someone had done this. Any camera controls? Searched, but no luck. Much to read. Also prefer the big gaudy 100, but why is 150 recommended?

I'm not sure what you mean by camera controls but basicaly it may be possible. SmartWatchM allows you to launch up to five pre-defined actions (links or applications) so if you can create link that will press the camera button, it may work.

Will the latest SWM work in the SAmsung Omnia?

Yes, it works with Omnia.
