Paired my i780 and MBW-150, and it's working like a chrarm thanks to smartwatchM :-)
The Logo display function also works but shows some random behavior.
1) logo display won't work if 3rd party caller-id program (i.e. photo contact pro in my case) installed.
- it only displays "UNKNOWN" text
- guess it's due to the initial process taken by other caller-id program
2) with 3rd party caller-id program uninstalled, logo display works randomly...
- works when device already wakes up and receives the incomig call.
- won't work when device got sleep and just got wake signal from the incoming call.
Also, it will be great if the user could install the program into the storage card and also assign the "NOL" files directory somewhere in the main memory. (FYI mine is installed in the main and both 2-line and 1-line CID setting was tested)
Thanks bunch for the huge application again.

Hello moneytoo,
Perhaps you remember me from the first hours, I'm using SWM with great pleasure. 2 feature request came up (One of them I allready mentioned, butt I think you have missed it somehow)
1. (Oldest) I use Exchange Active Sync (EAS) to sync all my E-mail to my phone. Some of those new E-mails end up in a subfolder (for example my ISP POP3 account is emptied on the Exchange server and put directly in a ISP subfolder of my inbox) So SmartWatch isn't alert me when a new mail from my ISP pop3 acount is synced. Perhaps you can 'retrieve' als subfolder from the Inbox and make a checkbox config panel for it for which subfolders a SmartWatch message should pop up on the Watch.
2. (Popped in today in a long drive home) When you loose your phone (or it get's stolen) you could send the dB signal strength of the Bluetooth signal to the watch it's display (after pressing a certain menu option on the watch) so you could try to locate it by walking around (the higher/lower the signal strength the closer or farther you are). Perhaps also other way aorund, you dropped/lost your watch, check the phone screen for Bluetooth Signal strength of the connection to the watch.
Thanks again for this wonderfull application!

Would it be possible to add functionality to the software so we can use the watch as a remote shutter button for camera enabled PDAs? It would be nice for those moments when you wanna be in the picture, but don't want to mess with a timer. Maybe give it a 3 second delay so your hand isn't on your watch in every shot and voila!

So i still have not been able to find a replacement charger, so i am trying to make my own (using some polymorph plastic, and some pogo pins). I do however need some information, that hopefully someone with a working charger can provide. I just need to know what the output voltage on the charger pins is. I also need to know which contacts are the positive, and negative contacts. This should only take about 2 minutes with a voltmeter. If anyone can help me out that would be awesome.

I wont most probably add this feature, mainly because software differences in camera applications. But you can do it on your own - you can write your own script for that (in Mortscript) - 1) (launch camera app), 2) Set few seconds to sleep, 3) Simulate a button press or screen click to press the shutter, 4) Assign this script to one of the five UserFile so you can launch it from your watch.

Hi onedutch, glad to see you.
1) I see... I will try to check it as soon as I will be able to (but I'm not sure when).
2) Signal strength info isn't supported by the MS BT stack yet. To make finding your phone easier, you can enable the sound (and turn bt on/off on the watch) or make a shortcut to launch some sound file.

I'm trying to sync the MBW-100 with my MOTO Q. I have installed the proper .NET framework. When I try to launch the app, I get a native exception.
When I drill into the details it says:

Hi many thanks for your great work.
I am looking for some advice if possible, I have your great program up and running on my Qtek 8500, running wm6.1 and using the new MWB-200, the notifications I get are 'Phone' on an incoming call and 'New SMS' on a text. Is this down to the limitations of the phone or perhaps my settings? Could you please help.
The more indication I can get on the Watch the better for me, many thanks.
BTW I have tried the btWatch as well, with pretty much the same results, however this thread seems to have petered out?
Thanks again,

I'm planning to modify smartWatchM to avoid the Incoming COM port creation (I finally learned how to handle that) and add support for all the SE watches requiring serial port profile, watches/bracelets (LM Technologies, Citizen...) requiring handsfree profile and even some headsets. I have no idea when (or even if) it will be (ever) done. I have to decide first if I have to only modify smartWatchM or design new application that would allow better handling.

Moskus: The LM Tech. watch wont work with the current version of smartWatchM but it sort of works with btWatch by pcfixitman. (I havent tested it myself, it's only what I have read). Anyway, these devices using handsfree profile work (= call notication, sometimes number displayed) usually work without any 3rd party sw.

Hi!
I know this has been said about a thousand times, but I need to say it again: Smartwatchm is an absolutely fabulous tool. Thanks for all development efforts!
I observed one thing that I do not understand: Once in a while Smartwatch seems to grap focus and goes to foreground. I think it happens on the today screen but I'm not sure. Of course it can be send to background with the HIDE button.
@moneytoo: Is there any particular event that makes it go to foreground? Is this by design?
@moneytoo: Can Smartwatchm be written to be a "service" so that it runs even more independent?
If I may request how to invest my donation: no more features -- just care for stability, compatibility and software quality issues. (In case there are ... ;) )
Regards,
Riven

I don't think so.
Riven:
foreground: If the application is in the background, only tray icon press or FF/RW press (press&hold) hide/unhide the form from the foreground. If you think this is not the cause, please tell me what device/os version you use.
service: At the beginning I had such idea. Running the application as service would require rewriting to a native code. Because of a large amount of code and my poor WinAPI knowledge, I dont plan this anymore.
stability, compatibility: For now, this is the main target... Keep this application up to date. However, I plan to use connection to the watch without any need to create COM port (while this feature should still be available) on MS BT stack devices. Version 1.1.0.0 could probably include this.

First of all, I'd like to thank you for the wonderful app. I really like my MBW-150 watch nicely working with Samsung i780 phone.
The issues and questions I have are,
1. I live overseas (South Korea) and the local operator uses their own proprietary SMS software on the phone, so your app can't read SMS and output that to my watch. Is there anyway to solve this problem?
2. Any chance of localization to fully support a local language? (Korean)
I have no idea how this thing works, but it'd be nice if it could display the local language for CID and SMS.

Ladies (awaiting the new MBW-200) and gents... the new version is here. :) Finally we can get rid of the abandoned COM Ports and use something more stable. Download the new smartWatchM 1.1.0.0 while it's hot and switch the connection (if you're on MS BT Stack)... (and report all the new bugs :D. I was using the new connection for few days and tried to make it as foolproof as possible so I hope it won't be many.)
What are the benefits? Well, the connections should be a bit faster and much stable - without interruptions when using other connections (WiFi, Bluetooth). Plus, these modifications make it easier for me to add new watches and other BT accessories (something's already in the works :p).
Riven:
Ok. :)
bremair:
One thing for sure: It won't be made by me. I know very little about Java and I'm not much interested in BB.
minlee:
1. There is no API for that I guess... But I will send you some small utility that monitors the filesystem. That could maybe help... Do you receive at least the SMS notification (without text) to the watch? (I'm a kind of busy right now so I will do it in the next days)
2. Oh, localization, that's the problem. The language problably ain't no problem but the fonts... I only use some latin characters embedded into the application. Maybe one day if I know how to use the normal font files. I can't promise anything...

After replacing my SE W810 with TyTN II I can use my MBW 100 again. It's been a poor time without.
I've updated to WM 6.1. I *think* it has MS bluetooth stack.
But direct mode isn't working. (No unpaired BT watch found)
I tried master reset - no effect. (btw: you should mention how in the installation guide. Without user manual is the hint "read user manual" not much help.)
Of course COM-mode is working. But I use also BT stereo headset for music.
And I've a 10 second hole of silence at the beginning of each song.
I think this is the mentioned problem with COM-mode?
Maybe I'll by the MBW 150. But in my opinion it's look is not so cool.
But this cool peace of sw should be a great compensation for that :D.
Has someone TyTN II + "direct mode" working???

You're using the COM mode so you had to have paired the watch before... You dont have to do this again (but it have to work if you set the watch sync mode). Just delete the COM port, restart and switch the mode to the direct one. It should work now. TyTN II is ok. (Otherwise, what error message you're getting? The "No unpaired BT watch found" message is used only for pairing.)

yes you are right. this worked:
- connect MBW 100 with "normal" BT manager
- accept VANGUARD, enter paswort 0000
- start smartwatchm
- enable direct mode
- Connect
But it's still a 10 second silence at the start of a song
I have a Motorola stereo BT headset,
connected with WM
If I press "play" I see WMP playing, counting seconds
I see in my watch the title
but only after 10/11 seconds I can hear my music
Next song the very same:
I see the title in my watch, but the first 10 seconds
of the song I can't hear.
BTW: It is a bluetooth-problem:
If I use the loudspeaker I can hear the song from the beginning.
Any chance, that this is a "feature" of smartWatchM and is
getting fixed the next releases?
Bye, Holger.

Holger Gothan:
The problem is that I dont have any BT headset to test it and I dont know what can possibly be the cause.
You can try:
1. Disable the Windows Media Notifications events so the name of the song wont be displayed (no data transmited).
2. Try different music player (does other players work with your headset? if not, there is an utility that redirects all music/sound to the headset)
3. Try it without smartWatchM runing. Just the watch turned on and paired.

1) it works but it's the feature I like most and was missing with my SE W810.
2) same
3) same like 1)
a little correction:
- new song starts
- my clock shows songtext
- I hear around 1 second the song
- 10 seonds silence (but media player contiunues to play)
- I can hear the "rest" of the song
I think it's a BT-Problem if 2 connections are used the same time.
(It might be a TyTN-driver-problem but I can't check with other device)
Bye, Holger.

Here's latest beta version of smartWatchM that adds support for new BT watch, Citizen i:VIRT (http://citizen.jp/ivirt/). You can download the beta here: http://beta.smartmadsoft.com/ (nothing new for Sony Ericsson watches)
To use smartWatchM with the Citizen i:VIRT, your device have to use MS BT Stack and you have to pair through smartWatchM.
This beta includes only basic support for this watch - pairing, connecting/disconnection, reconnecting, time sync and Call/SMS/Email notifications. All the notifications are made through the Caller ID feature so no messages are stored on the watch. Normally this watch can receive and store up to 10 messages (70 characters in one message) which work with the SoftBank phones. I know how to use this feature but I cannot get it working right on both Windows Mobile and Windows XP on desktop (.NET) while it works fine in a Python script on Linux.
Does anyone of you have this watch?

I already have the MBW-150 but the large screen of the iVirt is tempting. However, I wouldn't get it unless a genius like you will come up with more functions for it with Windows Mobile as otherwise it will be useless. So do you think that you will be able to make it nearly functional with Windows Mobile as you did with the MBW.

Hi
I have the following watch: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.14725
I am wondering if I can use this software with the watch. I had a try and it has some lags in the connection process ending with no connection. I don't know if it is something I am doing or the watch is completely incompatible.
Any help is great.

BenDick:
1. What is the name of the watch? (Displayed in BT manager)
2. What is the default passcode? (0000?)
3. During pairing (in the default BT manager), does it list any available services? (Serial port or handsfree?)
This would help me to add this watch to the list and automatically pair the watch...
Now test the connection: Pair the watch with your device in the BT manager. Launch smartWatchM, switch to SE MBW-xx0 (Direct) mode and start the connection. Then try pressing a button or turning the watch on/off to connect.

Moneytoo, on your Vote page, I see "Add support for a XY BT headset/handsfree." Is XY a brand, or are you talking about supporting BT headsets in general?
Even with the newest version, my watch keeps disconnecting/connecting when I'm on the phone with my BT headset. I haven't tried setting DisconnectDuringCall in this version, but in the past it seemed to turn BT off althogether, including my headset, not just the watch.

Hey thanks for the reply
1. The Watch Name is Watch when you see it in BT Manager.
2. The passcode is 0000 access. The services available are both Serial port and handsfree.
The watch just connects to the handsfreee profile when I leave it in Microsoft's bluetooth manager. When I take out the handsfree out and allow only the serial (or leave out the serial) I get the initial connection. Once the watch shows the connection, it is dropped either on my watch or the software.
I included a screen shot of what I did on my phone. here (http://iambendick.com/temp/dealextreme%20watch.bmp). Thanks for your help so far. I am excited to possibly have use of my watch again.

Thanks Moneytoo. What do you have in mind for headsets - activate watch functions with it, or something else?
I am using direct mode. The behavior seems to change with every newer version of WM, so it's probably a MS BT issue, and not yours. :)

This icon represents the watch battery level and it cannot be changed. To view the windows mobile device battery level, press middle left button to display the main messaging screen. On the bottom, there is a line that represents the battery level of the connected device (if you're charging the device, it changes to dotted line). You can even replace MMS (0) with Bat (xx%) in settings to view the exact battery level.

In the settings menu, you can change the speed of and max length of a message. To display full message, you can set the max length to really high number but I recommend you to set a smaller number (displaying 100 kB of text would probably drained your battery).
However you can cancel the displaying by pressing top right button twice.
You can even replay the last received message without the set length limit by selecting the "e-mail/sms info" screen (3rd menu item on the watch) and pressing play (press & hold middle left button).
No plans for manual scrolling (using buttons).

I am using it for about 1 week now and it is working perfectly with my HTC diamond (on WM 6.1 Pro) and my MBW150 watch.
I would like to suggest 2 small but very powerful options and hope it will be easy to implement them.
1- when the phone is away from the watch, is there any way to auto lock the phone using the built-in lock utility (if it was enabled)?
2-If someone took my phone and he is still in the range of bluetooth, is there a way to trigger the lock by using one of the 5 custom commands available in the watch volume menu.(i know that i can add this command by the existing software, but i cannot find the .exe file or the right command in windows mobile to launch and force lock the screen manually)
thanks again for your great effort and please let me know if is there any way to donate other then paypal, because it is not supported in my country.

Hi moneytoo,
I got a suggestion for a little but nice improvement. When I switch menu with the upper left button I can't get back to the beginning. For now I have to push the bottom button. Might it be possible when I reach the end of the menu after the customize files to press the left upper button once and get back to the first one? That would be more pleasant.

This is a function of all BT watch. You probably turned it off. It's the third icon ("Watch---Phone") in the graphic menu on the watch. The watch vibrates when the connection with a phone is lost. I hope this is what you're looking for.
I am having a problem using the "Out of reach" notification. The third icon Watch---Phone does not have the X so I assume the out of reach notification is "on" in this configuration. However, I still never get any indication from the watch that I lost my connection. When I come back to the phone I get a notification saying the watch is connected again. I am using the Sprint Mogul with the stock Windows 6.1 ROM. My watch is the MBW-150 Executive Sony Ericsson. I am using the SE MBW-xx0 (Direct) connection and not the COM connection. Is the watch supposed to notify you as soon as it looses the connection or does it take some time (a couple minutes) to notify you? I am getting no notification at all.

You have to enter the watch menu controled by the three keys on the left side of the watch (in case you have MBW-150). You have to press the top left (volume) key twice and then press and hold the middle left (play) key.

The appointment notification is canceled when you enter the appointment menu item on the watch menu (2nd item by default).

I am very interested in this application. I just bought the MBW-150 just 2 days ago, unfortunately after I've tried both "smart watch and "btwatch" it seems that none of these are worked for my phone (ASUS P535). The closest process I could get to is only to execute the program (SmarWatchM) but no matter how hard I tried, I could not even get it to see the MBW-150. It might seems that some port might block the communication between these 2 devices. I've tried to study all of this thread, but so far I can read only 20 pages from 132! I 'm quite nervous for getting it to work or else it would be the ordinary watch on my wrist. Please spare your valuable time to guide me for all this process. My request might sound stupid for you, but I really love this watch and I would not hesitate at all to donate for your effort in no time! Help me pleaseee.

Your Asus device uses Widcomm Bluetooth stack so smartWatchM with its COM connection is only option (btWatch wont work).
To set up the connection, just follow the installation guidelines on the first page, starting with "Non-Microsoft Bluetooth Stack, COM Port connection" (basically pair, check or set com port, restart, set up smartwatchm and connect).
If you have any problems, please tell me how far can you get. Have you paired the watch with your device? Is there any default incoming COM port or can you create new one? ...

It appears to be working now. I don't know what I did to fix it I did turn off bluetooth on the watch and back on but I don't know if that is what fixed it or not. It just started working. And to answer your question ... yes it notifies me when I turn off the phone.

I was stuck on the "3b" process coz my Bluetooth manager -> connection wizard are always force me to choose the proper device to pair (Hand free, HQ audio, Active sync, Browse a file, Connect to a network, Join a personal network, Exchange a buisness card, Explore a bluetooth device, Connect to a key board) I chose "Explore a bluetooth device". Then it found MBW-150 icon with the "?" on top then it tried to retrieve service then it displayed " The device does not offer any useable sevices....etc.". I did not forget to turn on the sync on my watch else I tried the other type of connection from the list but after I chose the "MBW-150" icon it always show "Service discovery was unsuccessful". I tried skip this process and assigned the com port successfully until the program shows "Waiting for connection. Press a button on the watch." but no response after I press (might because I was cannot pair them). Please advise if I missed any process. Thank you in advance.

The problem I am experiencing on my diamond is when I initialize smartwatch on my Diamond it seems to start -bluetooth turns on - but then the smartwatch screen does not appear. I run task manager and it doesn't appear there under running programs.
I even tried turning off touchflo and the smartwatch icon does appear at the bottom the of the screen (grayed out) when i try clicking on it it does not respond or do anything.
I restarted my phone, and restarted smartwatch but it does the same thing again.

If the grayed out tray icon does not respond, smartWatchM is probably in waiting for connection mode (in this mode, the application does not respond to any user event, except BT connection from the watch). If something went wrong and you cannot connect the watch, you may have problems launching smartWatchM. To disable the autostart to start looking for the problem, edit following registry entry: HKLM\Software\smartmadsoft\smartwatchm, set Autostart to 0.

The HTC Weather is supported only from HTC Home plugin, so no TouchFLO 2D/3D. I was looking at this only briefly but I could not find any usable data in the registry.
I havent realized I can create a copy of registy, update the weather and make a second copy of registry - this could probably be the right way... I have to try that.

Hi Cell_crazy,
I have the HTC diamond and the MBW150 watch, i had this problem few days ago but the difference in my case was that i had the auto connect settings delayed for 10 seconds, so i exit the smartwatch before it starts to connect and freeze.
Then the only way that worked with me is to unpaire the watch from the phone and uninstall and re-install the smartwatch program.
By the way, all previews settings remained the same after re-installing the software cause i guess the settings file was not deleted while uninstalling.
Hope that will help,

At this time, the media player is controled using simulated key presses - up/down for volume, center fire button for play and right for next track. WMP is set to launch on every press, just to make sure it's running - however you can disable this in the registry, go to HKLM\Software\smartmadsoft\smartwatchm and set WMPlayer to 0.

However - the lock feature must be enablet (but setting the auto lock to 24 hours is ok) and I cannot unlock the phone using smartWatchM, it must be made by the user. I will have to add some timeouts - for example lock only if the watch are disconnected longer than 30 seconds... It should be in one of following versions however I dont know when, I have really a lot of work. :)

First things first... great app moneytoo! Many thanks.
Since these are pretty bog standard key mappings for media player apps would you be able to have it send these key presses to another app? I'm thinking of a setting where you can enter the window title to match against for sending the key presses to. Alternatively, perhaps a setting for a program to run before sending key presses to. Basically overriding the running of WMP to run another app.

Great news and thanks a lot for your time.
The 30 seconds delay option will be great.
While waiting for the new feature in a newer version, is it possible to know how to lock the phone manually so i can use it in one of the 5 "user files" to force locking it from the watch?
Thank you.

Anyway, If you know, where the temperature data is stored, you would help me. :)
I have just received this watch. Not bad for that price - light and strong vibrations... I will play with the watch for a few days to find out all the feaures I can use. However I already know how to vibrate and display a text on the watch so it's fine. I will probably add support for this watch to the one of following version of smartWatchM. ;)
Thanks so much!! This is going to put so much use back to that watch. Up to now I have had very limited use of the phone. Thanks again!

Version 1.2.0.0 is here. :D
- added basic support for Citizen i:VIRT watch (Call/SMS/Email, Time)
Ok, this watch looks great, but the notification functionality isn't so great - only one line available, backlight doesnt go on automatically...
http://citizen.jp/ivirt/
- added basic support for LM Technologies LM958 watch (Call/SMS/Email, Time), probably the LM957 too
Cheap watch but with strong vibrate. You can get it for example at DealExtreme (without any shipping costs :)).
http://www.lm-technologies.com/ci/index.php?/products/details/36
- added full length messages (SMS/Email)
After receiving a message, the body of the message is automatically scrolled. Possibility to change the scrolling speed and maximal text length to display (shorter limit recommended - to not to drain your phone/watch by sending 100 kB text... You can always replay the last received message entering the E-Mail/SMS Info menu on the watch).
- added korean SMS notifications
Notifications for Korean service Nate. Only notifications, senders number/name and text to come later...
- added lock when out of range feature
You can set to lock the device (using the builtin lock feature - must be enabled) when the watch get out of range (or disconnected) - if you dont reconnect the watch within 30 seconds (the time can be adjusted in registry - LockDeviceTime).
- added some vga fixes
Application icon, Dick... :)
- fixed blocked sms reception when watch is not connected and the connection is opened
- fixed application not responding when watch is not connected and the connection is opened
- other fixes

Hey I'm liking this software. It seems to be doing well.
I found a small bug tho. When you push the bottom watch button during the ringing of an incoming call, the watch drops the connection. With other phones and software, this was intended to open the line and accept the call.
This is for the deal extreme watch thing. It would also be nice (if possible) to alert of reminders.
I was just wondering if there was a reason for it. All else is great here.
Thanks a bunch!

The watch is disconnected because of unknown command, comming to the phone. I havent testet this case (pressing buttons during incoming call). I will fix it and try to make it to accept the call. :)
Reminders and other notifications will come too, however it may not be that soon because of the need to make few changes and test it all properly. ;)
EDIT: Fix for the first bug is ready at http://beta.smartmadsoft.com/

The watches from DealExtreme site (LM Technologies Watch - LM957/LM958) are already supported in the latest version - 1.2.0.0. At this time, it only displays calls (callers name or number), sms (senders name or number) a e-mails (senders name). I have just finished support for MMS (not available yet, however there are some other fixes for this watch in the beta) and the other notifications will probably come soon too. ;)

Hi moneytoo
I installed the beta and I think I found another bug (man I am pesky).
When you leave the watch idle, the display shows the time at the bottom constantly (in military time). That must be a battery strain. I liked that you could tap the top button to see the time and date on the early version. It may be a setting I changed by accident tho.
For now I am leaving the connection closed until I am out and expecting calls.
The software is really moving along. I noticed and email alerts too.
Thank you.

This is probably just because you have enabled the "Eternal Time" feature in Test Commands menu. Most of the commands isnt expected to work with the LM watch so just turn smartWatchM on and off. Hope this is it. :)
BenDick & Moskus:
Pressing top right button doesnt do nothing - however smartWatchM makes to display time and date short after. (Here's a question for both of you...) I can display any text as 3rd item (time - few seconds of waiting - date - few seconds of waiting - 3rd item...)...
So what do you (both of you two) want to display? There are two possibilities for me:
1. Last event (received message, mail, missed call, appointment...) For example: "SMS:Robert" or "App:Launch" or "IM:kyle@live.com"... (just one of them)
2. Message overview, similar to the Messaging Info screen on SE MBW. For example "E0-S1-C0-M0" (meaning unread number of E-mails 0, SMS 1, missed calls 0, unread MMS 0).
What do you think? Personally I prefer the second one.

I agree with both of you, the second one sound best. :)
I noticed pressing the top button shows the time and the date.
However, would it be possible to do it the other way around, as in show the date first? I already have the time on the watch, but I miss the date very much from my other non-bluetooth watches.
And this might be a bug: When I get a SMS, the watch responds promptly with "new msg" flashing. When I receive an e-mail (through push email if it matters), the watch only vibrates once. Then after several minutes, the watch flashes "new msg" and displays the sender adress. EDIT: It can take up to 4-5 minutes, and will not show up at all if I read the email before that time.
And thanks again for doing this. Check your tip jar soon. ;)
And this might be "per design" but I'm "always" using a bluetooth headsett. After use (and even if it's turned off) the hang up button on the watch doesn't work. Does the watch use the headset profile or something like that?

if the clock is not connected, and then comes an email/sms message when the next time they connect the clock does not automatically displayed the new message.
Is it possible when the watch connected to check whether an email/sms exists and this show?

Does the Messaging plugin on Today screen of your device shows the (1) unread mail?
Please open the messaging application and set one mail as unread... Does the notification work correctly?

It may not work because of the hang up workaround - simulating (red) end call button press. The other (right) way is not that easy I havent found a way yet.

Please open the messaging application and set one mail as unread... Does the notification work correctly?
Yes, when I do it manually it works like it should. :)
I'll try to describe what happens:
1) Email is sent to me
2) The watch only vibrates
3) The phone plays the "new message" sound and marks one email as unread in the TouchFlo-interface (and Pocket Outlook)
4) Time passes, 4-5 minutes
5. The watch vibrates and show "new message
(Pocket Outlook is normally not running in the background if that matters)
And another thing: The watch does not scroll text. I don't know if it's even possible, but I'm just checking. My wifes name is Kristine AndSoOn, but only "Mail:Kristin" is shown in the display (after "new msg" flashed).
And yet another thing (sorry for being a pain in the @$$): If I accidently move out of range from the phone and try to connect (using the "Connect/scissor" icon on the watch), sometimes the watch only connects using the handset profile (or something like that). I have to delete the bluetooth device and repair in order to get it to work again.
EDIT: Just to let you know: This works so much better than btWatch! :D

Hi Moneytoo,
After i upgraded my smartwatch software to 1.2.0.0, i noticed the following problem:
- When i receive a call, the display name or the number are shown with no problem, but after i answer the call from my phone sometimes the caller name/number remains displayed on the watch (forever i guess) till i press the upper right button and scroll thru the 3 menus (date, time, last message) till I reach the blank on the screen.
Even if i press the mute button (upper right one time), the mute logo remains also on the watch screen till i remove it manually in the same way.
Please note that I used the previews software version for about 2 weeks and nothing like this happened during all that time.
Please advice,
Thank you

Edit: right after i sent this post, i received a call and this problem didn't occur, so i guess this problem is not happening each time i receive a call but it is happening frequently.
Thanks.

I don't use POP/IMAP anymore, but I'll see if I can find a way to check this.
It also works without problem if I mark an email as unread in Outlook 2007 and then forces the phone to syncronize. smartWatch "finds" the unread email and sends the "new msg" routine to the watch.

Moneytoo, since you were able to modify the time to 12 hour mode, is there a chance of providing the option to show the date in US mode, i.e. 11-12-2008 or 11/12/2008 instead of 2008-11-12? Even better would be if the watch followed the country specific mode that the phone uses, MMM dd, yyyy, etc.

Moskus was talking about different watches - LM958. People should note what watch are they referring to since smartWatchM is multi-watch. :)

I'm not able to modify the display format of the date/time. I only send different time when the button is pressed - for example 10:20 instead of 22:20... So this is just a warkaround and it will mess up your date/time when you will be using your watch not connected.
In the date, I can only switch day and month... Is it really worth of?

Moneytoo,
have a look at Mail2Web (http://services.mail2web.com/FreeServices/).
They offer a free basic Exchange service that will easily sync OTA with your WM device. Upgradable for extra features, too. I use the basic Exchange service and it works nicely. Will retrieve your Email from any account, but it's better to forward it there.
Tit for tat: I have a little issue with sWM:
Whenever I get any notification on the watch (messages, reminders...), the watch will vibrate and show the notification. Then, a bit later, it will just vibrate 3 times again, even if I've dismissed the notification before.
Any ideas?
Many thanks,

Usually you have to press a button on the watch only if the watch wasn't connected to the phone for a long time. Version 1.2.0.0 is here. :D
- added lock when out of range feature
You can set to lock the device (using the builtin lock feature - must be enabled) when the watch get out of range (or disconnected) - if you dont reconnect the watch within 30 seconds (the time can be adjusted in registry - LockDeviceTime).
Moneytoo,
great work, as ever! :)
Here's another suggestion, building upon the auto-lock feature. Let's say someone nicks your phone, or it accidentally drops out of your pocket, or you leave it behind somewhere. How about an option that, when out of range,
- sets system volume to max and
- triggers some alarm sound.
For obvious reasons, this should require some sort of action by the user on the device to mute the alarm, and not stop automatically when back in range.
That would make it easy to retrieve your phone, and if combined with the device lock function, will make it hard for the thief to sneak away with your phone. :)
Don't know if that can be done, but I think it might be quite useful.
Keep up the great work!

or 2. Disable Full length notifications
or 3. Disable repetitive notifications
or 4. Stop the text before deleting/reading a mail
Another thing I noticed: I'm using the latest version with a brand new HTC Touch HD, and for some reason, even though the software installs fine, after a while (or a reboot), it stops working. It loads, but fails to appear when i click on it, and the watch doesn't connect anymore.
Any solutions?
SmartWatchM cannot be launch by clicking on the icon in start menu if it's in "hidden mode". You can switch to smartWatchM only by pressing&holding the top left button on the watch (if connected) or clicking the tray icon (tray bar isn't visible when TouchFlo3D is enabled).
Eventually you can reset smartWatchM settings by deleting a registry key (hklm\software\smartmadsoft\smartwatchm).

Thanks Moneytoo,
Is it possible to press a button on the watch to stop notification. Most of the times you read the message on the watch and don't need to take out your phone to read and stop notification.
Would this be possible, or is it already a feature and i just don't know how

The notification repeat should be stop when you use the watch menu and display "e-mail/sms info" (3rd screen by default). Or just disable the repetition.

I can possibly launch predefined application/script of yours that would handle such action but I dont want to be responsible for your screaming phones. :)
Thanks, Moneytoo!
I was thinking of an option for situations where risk of losing / someone pinching the phone is high and the risk of accidental out of range is low - train, pub, christmas shopping and the like! :)
Hmm - I know nothing about scripting. All I can think of is launch a predefined sound file, but that would still leave the volume where it is.
Any chance of anyone jumping in on this?
Best,

But still say on the smartWatchM Waiting for connection...

I am on COM6

Make sure you have selected LM958 in Settings-Device menu because you should see or use the COM ports at all (it should be grayed out all the time because it's just for SE MBW watch).
LM958 does not use top right button to connect but the third menu item, so make sure the bluetooth on the watch is turned on (1st item) and then select the third item.

OK
- uninstalled all BT-units under WM6
- uninstalled smartWatchM
- Reset the phone
... and guess what?
I still have connection to the LM958
but there are NO units in the list?
There seems to be some cache doing it, or what?
Maybe the HomeScreen Plus does the conflict.

I see something like it, but not the exact same thing:
My watch automaticly pairs with the watch, and it happens if smartWatch is not running, or the connection was lost. Then I have to remove the device from the list (in the bluetooth-list) and re-pair using the smartWatch application.
EDIT: I use the LM958 watch and a HTC Touch Pro.

I have experienced similar issue today. The problem is that the watch connects using headset profile even it's disabled in BT manager... Deleting the devicew and repairing helped, but... I will have to wear the watch for a few days.
Besk: If you uninstall smartWatchM, only the settings is still stored on the device so you may try to delete it (registry key hklm\software\smartmadsoft\smartwatchm). I think music control (once WMP control has been disabled in the registry) simply sends key presses to whatever is the active app. So, to control the TF3D player, it would need to be active (as in you're looking at it on the screen) and respond to the default keys i.e. Left for previous, Right for next, Enter for play / pause, Up for volume up and down for volume down.
I'd really like to see a way to control whichever media player takes your fancy without it having to be active. Something like using PostMessage to send key presses to a use definable window title. Or, for ultimate freedom, being able to use your own shortcuts / scripts to override the watch button press events.

I have tried that method and it doesnt work, when I pres play it just opens up the default Windows Media Player. So that's why I'm looking for a way to default to TF3D.
Ideally the only thing to do would be to press "play" on the watch, have that open the TF3D music player, press "play" once more to launch the selected track, and then of course "FF", RW" and volume all controlled by the watch.
Do you think there is a way to do that?

You can disable WMP starting by editing the registry. Head to HKLM\software\smartmadsoft\smartwatchm and change the WMPlayer value to 0. After that... WMP won't be loaded :) You mayh need to restart smartwatchm for the change to take effect though.

There's a new version at http://beta.smartmadsoft.com/
I have improved the WMP control. WMP must be running before enabling the WMP control mode. The control runs completely on the background, no more switching to foreground. Works even when the keypad is locked.
(The registry key WMPlayer is ignored since this solution works with WMP only)

Thanks for that, I actually got it working. But I have another question: in order to start the media player controls, I have to press the volume button about 6 times before it goes to Windows Media mode. Is there a way around this? it's very cumbersome to have to do that everytime you want to control the music player.
Isnt there a way to, say, just press the stop or FF button once and have the music player mode start?

Ok thanks for all these tips. One last thing: there is a strange behavior when controlling the TF3D music tab, where the FF/RW buttons actually navigate through the various tabs of TF3D (pictures, weather etc) instead of through the music tracks. Plus, the volume up/down actually changes tracks.
Any ideas on that one? If that could be fixed then everything would be working perfectly.

That just TF3D responding to the key strokes issued by smartWatchM. Most media players use left and right to switch tracks and up and down to do the volume but TF3D handles them differently.

i have a strange issue with my x1, mbw-150 and smartwatchm v1.2.0.2 (beta). the sound output disappears in standby mode (display off) with wmp running (foreground or background doesn't matter) by pressing play on my watch. there is some sound for about a second but after that there is no more sound output ond my phone. no music, no ringtone, no sound at all. i can disable and enable sound but nothing changes. even no sound when i plug in my earphones. the only working sound is the voice on the earspeaker when i receive/make a call.
the problem doesn't seem to appear if i have connected my bluetooth stereo headset and start/stop the music with my watch or on the headset itself (okay, my watch gets disconnected when i poweroff the headset but i can live with that). so i've tested what's happening when i connect my bt stereo headset after losing the sound. i can hear the music but it is disturbed by gaps about every second.
anybody else having this problem? how can i reactivate the sound output without a softreset?
i don't know if smartwatchm is causing the problem but if you need more information to find out just tell me what you need to know.

I have just tested this case (X1, MBW-150 and the latest beta, without earphones) but the behaviour is standard - if you press the standby button, WMP stops playing. The sound still works when the device is powered on. SmartWatchM doesnt not control sound at all (only plays connected/disconnected sound if selected) so there's no reason...
Headset: I'm aware there are some problems with BT headset but I dont know what's the cause (BT stack maybe) but I cannot do much about it.

There's nothing you can do for TF3D that I know of. Changes would need to come from smartWatchM I think.
@moneytoo: I see you've been busy working on WMP control functions and the standalone WMP control app. Any chance we can get something to allow controlling other media players?
How about something along the lines of smartWatchM checking for specially named shortcuts in the apps folder (e.g. media_play.lnk, media_vol_up.lnk, media_next.lnk etc.) and running those instead if they exist. That would take the burden off of you and let us work on getting things going for our players of choice. I've already got a small army of MortScript scripts fit for this purpose;)

Control TF3D isn't possible at this time because TF3D is a today with several tabs and I'm not sure how to handle all that. But the WMP control works great in the beta, even when WMP plays in background and keypad is locked so if you really want to use this feature I recommend using WMP.

Yes, I was thinking about similar shortcuts too. There is already a lot of advanced features such as running own apps/scipts from watch, external notifications or even possibility to edit regular expression for full length messages display... I'm not sure how many people will write their own media player conrol but definitely that's something to think about.
At this time I'm considering support for one or two media players other than WMP.

Good stuff :) I'd be happy to do a few media player control scripts that folk could use if you do go the shortcuts / scripts way... I may even manage to make 'em in to cab files for ease of installation. I've got Kinoma Play and Pocket Player ones done already (using MortScript and PostMessage calls) which should (although I've not actually tested it yet!) work on locked devices too.

I have updated the beta and added support for the media control shortcuts. So download it from beta.smartmadsoft.com if you want to try it. (I havent tested it yet.)
To make it work, you have to copy all shortcuts to "...\smartmadsoft\smartWatchM\media" folder. You can use volup.lnk, voldown.lnk, pause.lnk (for play/pause), next.lnk. (You can prepare even prev.lnk but this is not supported yet.) The shortcuts should be automatically enabled when you use the media control feature.

Since the current builds seem to be dealing with music player controls I thught I'd throw in my 2 cents based on a lot of trial and error with different music players.
So after trying almost all the available players the one that seems to work the best so far is pocket player. Of course WMP is even better but I hate it with a passion so I'm not too keen on using it.
Back to Pocket player, everything works great, with two exceptions:
- it has to be in the foreground to register commands from the watch
- the previous key is not enabled
- it cannot be launched by pressing the play button of the watch
Now I know these problems have already been discussed on this thread, but i thought I'd summarize what doesnt work. As far as what does work, lots actually: music controls, volume control, even the song titles.
So, here's to hoping the above problems get sorted out in future revision.

Since Pocket Player is favorite player for many users, I'll make a note to add built-in support for this player. ;)
- it has to be in the foreground to register commands from the watch
This is no longer needed with WMP and will not be needed for other players I add.
- the previous key is not enabled
Not available yet. It's not clear for me how this key works so maybe I'll try it in the future.

This only worked with WMP but I wont add this in future versions because I wll check all supported players and control them if possible.

This is a bug. If you delete or read your email during the "Full length message" text output on the watch, the email isn't set as unread so smartWatchM keeps alerting...

The appointment notification is canceled when you enter the appointment menu item on the watch menu (2nd item by default).
Does "enter" mean to hold-press the left middle key on the 2nd menu item or just choose the 2nd menu item and then press the middle key once to select?
Thanks for keeping your great application up-to-date so frequently, this is very rare for a freeware project!

You don't hang about moneytoo ;) If you wanted to add in support for Kinoma Play (http://kinoma.com/play/) here's the details for it:
Process name: kinoma.exe
Start program command line: \Program files\Kinoma\kp5.exe *
Window title: Kinoma Play
Volume up key: Up
Volume down key: Down
Play / pause key: Enter
Next key: Right
Previous key: Left
*I don't know if you do anything about actually launching media players... but if you do then the proper installation path can be found in "HKLM\Software\Kinoma\Player 5\" using "InstallDir" REG_SZ value. On my device the value is "\Program Files\Kinoma" so there's no terminating "\". The kp5.exe is the launcher the app uses to start the main kinoma.exe process. If Kinoma is already running and you execute the kp5.exe again it brings the main app to the front.

I think there needs to be a WM_CHAR message sent in between the 2 of them... that's what works in the Mortscript I've been using to send an Enter key press:
WM_KEYDOWN = 256
WM_KEYUP = 257
WM_CHAR = 258
KEY_RIGHT = 39
KEY_LEFT = 37
KEY_ENTER = 13
KEY_UP = 38
KEY_DOWN = 40
KEY_BACK = 8
theKey = KEY_ENTER
PostMessage(title_player , WM_KEYDOWN ,theKey, 0)
PostMessage(title_player , WM_CHAR ,theKey, 0)
PostMessage(title_player , WM_KEYUP ,theKey, 0)
It's only something I knocked together so it may not be the "proper" way of doing it... but it works for me ;)

"Is there any kind of key mapping I can perform, either in TF3D (via registry) or in SmartwatchM to solve this? If i could make this work then everything would be perfect for me.
Control TF3D isn't possible at this time because TF3D is a today with several tabs and I'm not sure how to handle all that. But the WMP control works great in the beta, even when WMP plays in background and keypad is locked so if you really want to use this feature I recommend using WMP."
I don't currenly own a TF3D device. If I did, are you saying I could run WMP instead of the TF3D mediaplayer, but still keep the TF3D, or do I have to disable TF3D and run another today screen because of the multiple tabs?

Here's another update (1.2.0.2 (20081208)). Better Media Players control and other fixes (so it's highly recommended to update).
- added Pocket Player, CorePlayer and Kinoma (both Play/FreePlay versions) support (better WMP control)
No need to set up, just leave your favorite player running while activating the media control on the watch. Currently only with WMP you see the track artist/title (while it may be possible to add this feature for Pocket Player).
- added basic FlexMail notification support
Experimental... :p
- added 3rd party notifications for LM958
- improved appointment notifications
This is important fix - v1.2.0.2 no longer periodically checks for appointments but it just waits for the reminder window... This should reduce battery drain.
- bug fixes
Some improvements in pairing, stability on HTC S740...

Here's another update (1.2.0.2 (20081208)).
moneytoo,
thanks for the update, it sure sounds great!
But I am exeriencing problems with it: Version 1.2.0.2 cannot find my watch (MBW-150). I've tried both Direct and COM connections, and neither works. Tried both CAB and EXE installers too.
Just downgraded back to v1.2.0.0, and everything's fine as usual there.
Any ideas?
Many thanks,

Moneytoo,
thanks for the quick reply.
When I say the device can't find my watch, I mean at a very early stage during setup. I go to Setup - Device Setup - Discover and Pair, and get the message: Cannot find any unpaired watch. Same if I use a COM connection and define and register a COM port before. And yes, I did reset the watch before I started that. :)
Like I said: To be sure, I uninstalled v.1.2.0.2 and re-installed v1.2.0.0. Everything works flawlessly there, so I believe I'm not missing out any important steps myself.
I noticed that the CAB for v1.2.0.2 is quite a bit smaller than for 1.2.0.0 (374 KB over 596 KB). Generally that's a good thing, but are you sure nothing got lost there?
I use an o2 XDA Trion (HTC TyTN), have been using sWM on this device since version 1.0. I've done a few resets with the device and the watch, but still the same problem.
Best,
N.

1.
True. When I updated from v1.2.0.0 to v1.2.0.2, sWM still worked nicely with my watch.
But sometimes I have to reset the watch and pair again, because now and then I use my watch with a Nokia and the SIC software. Going back to my PPC I have to pair anew. That worked no problem with v1.2.0.0.
2.
Reset my watch and tried again with the newest files of v1.2.0.2 (i.e. the files currently linked to your first post). Still, this version "cannot find any unpaired watch." :(
Conclusion:
If the watch has been reset and I have to pair again, version 1.2.0.2 will definitely not recognise the watch. Tried the previous version again, and it definitely works there.
No idea why, though...
Help is much appreciated!

I have got the HBH-DS980 today. Pretty cool headset. I can connect to the headset, set the time and send some text while the music and player control still works. It will take some time but there's pretty high probability this headset will be added as fourth supported device. :) The only bad thing is it cannot vibrate... Wait... Maybe I can play beeps... :) I need few days or weeks to test it all.

Hi ,
Thanks moneytoo for this great software .
Currently i am facing this issue .
My watch is connected to my xperia on com port 6
call notification is working fine but whenever a sms message arrives ,
the watch freezes so does the smartwatchm software and it takes around 2-3 mins before my watch wakes up and shows a sms recieved indication
moreover , the watch disconnects and reconnects during this .
I couldn do a direct connection on my phone , therefore i am wondering if its a phone bluetooth stack problem or the smartwatchm problem .
Also , i have around 2000 messages in my phone and its in IM style , does this affect ?
please advice

Try downloading the beta (link in my sig). I've made a change that fix the sms delay/freeze but I'm unable to test it since I dont have so many messages in my inbox. :)
Disconnection: My fried uses the latest version on his Xperia without any problem.
Switch from Com to direct connect mode, restart the device and make sure that the com port is really deleted (in BT manager). Make sure BT stays on and turn the watch off and on.
You can even hard reset the watch (enable pairing mode, press and holt both button on the right until the screen gets white).

Not yet. I'm afraid there might be one disadvantage - the software (when running) will use headset or handsfree profile so this will make the headset unable to use for calls.
But there's way... Make it similar to the JETware solution. I do plan make something similar for BT watches and other gadgets but who knows when or if ever... :)

BT headsets: I will try the SE headset however other headsets maybe in the next generetion since this application model blocks headsets for calls
Symbian, Palm and other systems: So far I stuck with WM because I better make it 100% working with WM than 50% working with each other platform (since I dont know anything about developing for Symbian...).

What watch do you have? Is your Xperia running WWE/English ROM (what version) or some other language?
Maybe something blocks the connection - close all running applications and disconnect all (bt) devices. (Have you checked that the COM port is really deleted?)

I have an SE Xperia, standard ROM. I have installed SmartWatch and it works fine while the phone is active. However has soon as the screen goes off you can no longer check notifications. If a call or SMS comes through then the info gets sent to the watch after a minute or so.
Is there a workaround to keep the features on when the screen is off? ie when the phone is asleep?
Thanks

Does the screen goes on when there is an incoming call (sms/mail)?

What is the value of HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\sys\DisableAutoS uspend? Could you export this registry key HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power?

Hi Moneytoo
The screen comes on with a call or text is recieved. The issue i'm having is for example when the phone is asleep (display off) and I want to check for messages i've missed you can press the stop key and it used to display the number of missed calls, SMS, MMS, and Email as well as the battery meter at the bottom.
Unless the phones display is on nothing happens.
As for the reg details/ The DisableAutoSuspend is set to 1
As for the export bit, where can I find this?

It depends on the Bluetooth Stack. There are only two BT Stack - MS Stack and Widcomm Stack. If you own the device, you can check the Bluetooth Stack by opening BT Manager (Widcomm Stack has About screen and has different menu style).
smartWatchM works with MS BT Stack flawlessly. Widcomm can be configured to work over COM ports (SE MBW only) but the connection isn't much stable.

I think this is because you are using Abacus watch which are compatible but may use different commands during initialization. In direct connection, every unknown command makes the application to disconnect/reconnect.
I dont have the Abacus watch and all the people were using the COM port mode. I will make a test version that will log or display the commands. This should help me to fix it.

I have got the same issue reported by other X500 user (although the user was using another software using the same libraries, not smartWatchM).
What language is your operating system (WWE?)?
This problem may be caused by:
1) 3rd party library I'm using (I will report it)
2) .NET CF/E-ten X500 ROM bug
Things you can try:
1) Try installing and running some old versions (http://smartmadsoft.com/smartwatchm/smartwatchm0220.cab and http://smartmadsoft.com/smartwatchm/smartwatchm1000.cab).
2) Try installing this library (http://smartmadsoft.com/temp/inthehand.mobile.3.3.cab)
3) Install/reinstall .NET Compact Framework 2 SP2.
4) Install/reinstall .NET Compact Framework 3.5.
5) Flash new ROM. There are some cooked ROMs for X500.
