i got my vox a month ago and i love the design. probably the only smartphone design out there that looks as good as it does. But the problem i'm having with it is the performance level...i've had it lock up on me, sometimes it takes forever to load a simple task such as my text messages. I love the phone design to death, is there a phone that keeps this slick design but performs just as well? I know htc released a s730, but really? lol come on, its bigger, contains the same amount of ram, faster processor but still...

Or is it time i move to a pocket pc? do they perform better than smartphones? Or am i looking at this entirely from the wrong view, is it windows mobile thats causing this? is there away i could change the OS installed, maybe like the OS pocketpc's run? I'm not new to all this, but I would like some input and what everyones feeling, or if anyone is feeling the way I am. thanks again guys, looking forward to your responses :D

p.s. if you have any recommendations on devices i should look at, please let me know cause I might start looking for something new

One solution is to overclock your vox.
For me is very frustrating, slow opening of new SMS, too!
I don't know any other way to speed up your device.

ya i have it overclocked to 252 mhz, there is a improvement but why does it take so long to send a sms? not to mention the amount of steps that need to be taken to do so, open messaging, text messages, new, have to open contact list (which takes a while) then select a contact, select their mobile number, hit enter, then finally start typing.

I was looking at the iphone, and some reviews off youtube, the phone seems really responsive and fast, anyone with any suggestions? wondering if that might be a good step up?

You can start typing the name you want to write to on homescreen so the contact shows up. Then with left/right arrows select SMS, when you open it it goes directly to sending a SMS to this contact, same applies to the phone book and it will stay that way.

wow that is alot faster! didnt know that, makes texting a whole lot faster. guess i've been doing it the long way, hence the bitter taste its left. question, is windows mobile operating system more efficient than what the pocketpcs have installed?

For me that's really the most interesting thing in the iPhone, the fact that its interface is so fluid, everything seem to load fast :). It seems really less frustrating to use. The only problem for me is that it is not as easy to tweak it as is windows mobile. Too bad windows mobile 7 still is a long time ahead..

But at least Windows Mobile 6.1 is due for the first quarter 08, let's hope that it will bring some improvements!
The thing about the MacOS X and the iPhone is that it's only designed for a couple devices, so it's very customized for these. Windows and Windows Mobile is made for thousands of different machines, so problems are just inevitable. :D

Speed improvements would be great indeed :) But my hopes are not very high :D

i think we've peaked in terms of performance and speed with the vox, the iphone GUI is amazing not to mention how flawlessy it flows from one application to another. Only thing I can give iphone a hard time for is it doenst seem homebrew friendly.

So that being said, would you guys recommend/suggest a vox ->iphone upgrade? or just stick with the vox?

Sick with the Vox and try the lates official HTC ROM, it's available on the XDA-developers ftp site. I fashed my Vox to it yesterday and it is alot faster than the original Vox ROM and is slightly smaller aswell leaving more RAM free to install apps like facade and PhoneAlarm.

I also didn't like how long it took to open messaging and start a new text message. Its the main reason I overclocked my s710. Here's a couple of other things that I came across while trying to improve messaging speed. Working in combination, they made a huge difference for me:

1. overclocked to 252mhz

2. place a shortcut in your \windows\startup folder with the following commands:

58#"\Program Files\load.exe" -hide "\Windows\tmail.exe"
81#"\Program Files\load.exe" -hide "\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "SMS" -to ""-body""

Opens the messaging app in the background on startup. Opens a new blank text message on startup. Requires load.exe to be able to open in the background. Since it is already open in the background, you can access messaging instantly. Whatever method you choose to open a new text message will also be faster since their is already a blank open text message in the background.

3. I like the method mentioned above of typing the contact then selecting Send Text Message. Another method that is just as fast is to create a shortcut to your blank open text message and place it in your Program Files folder (or wherever, I have mine as a shortcut in my facade launcher bar). The shortcut contains the same new text message command as above (just without using load.exe to hide it in the background):

49#"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "SMS" -to ""-body""

Opening this brings you directly to your blank text message, just select your contact and start typing.

Hope this helps!

wow! god thats amazing, loads instantly :|! and its even more amazing that your a junior member, did you read this somewhere? if not, cudos to you, thanks a lot loving that small tweak ALOT! appreciate it. hopefully more people read this.

Wish there was a program that ran more tweaks to help smartphones performance

After figuring out tmail.exe was the messaging app, I kinda just played around with that and load.exe (found in "how to pimp your s710" thread on Modaco.com) to see what would happen. After that I came accross that command to open a new blank text message on some random tweaks page. Had to try it out with load.exe too. Glad I did :). Simple stuff can make a big difference. My last phone was a simple Nokia 6133 flip, and I could access text messaging or a new text message within a second of opening the phone...not really that important, but I wanted that streamlined access to messaging with the s710. I think these little tweaks make it pretty close.

i've created the shortcut, but for some reason it doens't load....my question is when i tried to run tmail manually from file explorer it loads up the messaging center, and not straight into text messages (option 1 of the text messaging center). now i was curious if theres a way we can get text messaging loaded directly

now I get what you were saying in your PM, you want to go directly to the text messaging section of tmail.exe. Try this:

35#"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "SMS"

Put this in a shortcut. When you open it, it should take you to your text messages.
