With this new version, we have 8 ROMs to offer based on the WM6.0 AT&T 1.62 official release. Each ROM adds onto the previous ROM's application list, thus offering a plethora of options and applications for all to enjoy.

f your craving wasn't satisfied with one of the 8 ROMs in this release or the 17 ROMs in Alex's v5 ROMs (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Alex%27s%20v5%20ROMs), all of the ROMs were created by the methods described in the Kaiser ROM Kitchen Tutorial (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser%20ROM%20Kitchen%20Tutori al) using Alex's Cooking Kits (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Alex%27s%20Cooking%20Kits) and OEM Package Tutorial (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=OEM%20Package%20Tutorial).

__Alex__,

Haven't had a chance to try your ROM yet, but I wanted to thank you for taking the time to provide thorough documentation. I really like the direction some chefs are taking in this regard.

Thanks,

Great stuff Alex! I have to say I haven't changed from my Kaiser Kitchen cooked ROMs using your base rom for anything.... Even though I try everything released I always go back to it. That base is hard to beat. Thanks for all your work ;)

Not that my opinion matters to anyone, but let me just commend you on a few things.

Wow! You put a bunch of work into this. Quantity, yes of course that's obvious. But the Quality of information is just superb. Discussions have taken place about this sort of thing and I have held out Quentin as the best example. I will now have to include Alex as well. I have watched your releases and have seen a consistant increase in the quality of information. This one (although much is structural and not yet filled in) is a shining example for the rest of the forums to learn from.

Now I be checking out the ROMs... Cheers

Alex - I have been playing with the Home ROM this morning and the only issue i have run into is the HTC Home Plugin is not keeping up with the time. Meaning when i turn the screen on after 5-10 minutes the clock quickly "catches-up" with the correct time. This is something I have seen with the HTC plugin in other ROMS and, at least for me, it keeps the phone from working probably with EAS and direct push. Since direct push is critical for me, I am going to try to the Games ROM and see if direct push will work correctly for me.

Overall awesome ROM, just wanted to pass along my observations from this morning.

In an attempt to satisfy everyone, I've gone from http://wiki.xda-developers.com/themes/default/images/http.png(4) v4 ROMs (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354583) to (7) AT&T 1.61 ROM variants and (7) HTC 1.81 in v5. Each ROM adds onto the previous ROM's application list, thus offering a plethora of options and applications for all to enjoy.

All of the ROMs were created by the methods described in the Kaiser ROM Kitchen Tutorial (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser%20ROM%20Kitchen%20Tutori al) using Alex's v5 Cooking Kits (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Alex%27s%20Cooking%20Kits).

Enjoy!

Absolutely LOVE these roms!!! One quick question though. I have looked, but am not sure about what to call it to find the answer. The battery icon on the home screen in the top right corner. How do I remove it, and get back to the standard icon that is usually there?

Thanks

tomsenna
30th January 2008, 07:38 PM
What's the "standard icon" you're referring to? The "X" shows up there for closing windows/apps. As for anything else that shows up there all I recall is the task manager controls. In my opinion however, that corner gets way too much action with those task managers. It drives me nuts. The "QuickMenu" with the built in task menu that Alex included is so simple, convenient and beats the others hands down.

Awesome work Alex!

I'm going to need to cook my own personal kit on top of this, or come up with a list/order of installed programs so that I can bring it up to snuff @ where I have it now, using Alex v4, which I think is absolutely smoking.

Keep up the good work.

Also, I know that dutty puts performance tweaks / battery tweaks in his roms... I assume that is mostly page pool / cache sizes... and was wondering if you were doing the same things in that regard. I assume the battery tweaks are all available with Advanced Settings 2.0...

No battery tweaks are included as some people have mentioned that the MicroSD settings can cause freezing issues, so I leave that up to each person to change to their liking with Schap's or Chainfire/Nikagl's excellent configuration apps.

Thanks and Great Job!
That's the only thing that's missing. When I do use a cube, I prefer the commercial ones over the ones that are freely available.

I do admit that I gave up on free cubes quite some time ago (circa November, using SCLP 1.60 and Byka's).

If you can suggest a free cube that's blazingly fast and has the ability to add links via a GUI (as opposed to editing a text file), I will consider it for the 15th and 16th ROMs...

I tried out v4 and the cube and it didnt seem to run nearly as fast as it did on my herald. so i wonder if mine was slow for some reason or the versions before duttys were just really slow?

fisha21
30th January 2008, 11:14 PM
I''ve been wanting to try a new ROM for a while now. Read all the faqs, d/l all the programs/ files and printed out instructions. Only thing stopping me is the inability to find the right ROM - most have too much stuff I'd never use, or (eg the cube) don't really want.

Now you have provided just the ROM I am looking for - can't wait for the HTC Ultraclean v5 ROM (would go for Clean, but am using Easysync to sync folders and that needs .NetCF 2 only).

Many thanks for your hard work. Also really love your Wiki page - clear detailed info about what is and isn't included. Other chefs do give detailed info, but on different threads. Your Wiki page makes it easy to compare the different versions and choose the right one. Hope it is a format adopted by others!

Hey all.... the only thing I added was the new Advanced Config... the only thing I changed in there was the camera settings (not to create DCIM) and some other stuff but I don't remember changing anything (or finding anything) related to MMS.

I can't send an MMS. Anyone else having this problem? I just get my message going to the outbox of the MMS and then it has a little clock icon on it.

Alex,

I am have been doing some testing with batteries and radio/rom's to see how they operate as far as operation longevity. Let me just say that this one with radio 1.27.14.09 has beat them all in comparison to Dutty's DualTouch v4 with HTC radios.

Check my signature for the full test but her is the synopsis of the testing.

I did some testing with an app called BattBench .NET The program measure battery life from how long your phone would last by running down the battery to a desired amount of percentage and testing it. I ran these test 5 times with each radio so I could get an average of the test.

I tested these radios while the phone was laying on my desk and was receiving about 55-70 % signal strength the entire time on the AT&T Edge Network. Never tried it with 3G.

Dutty's DualTouch v4.

radio 1.27.12.11 - The estimated Battery life (from 0 to 100%) of this battery, working in this conditions is: 363.8 min.

radio 1.27.12.17 - The estimated Battery life (from 0 to 100%) of this battery, working in this conditions is: 321 min

radio 1.27.15.32 - The estimated Battery life (from 0 to 100%) of this battery, working in this conditions is: 227.2 min.

radio 1.27.12.32 - The estimated Battery life (from 0 to 100%) of this battery, working in this conditions is: 320.5 min.

radio 1.27.11.31 - The estimated Battery life (from 0 to 100%) of this battery, working in this conditions is: 308.5 min.

Alex AT&T Home V5 ROM with:

radio 1.27.14.09 - The estimated Battery life from (0 to 100%) of this battery, working in this condition is: 419.4 min.

OK, super newb question.

I am running Dutty's V4 now, but I am having issues so I am going to give your AT&T version a shot when I get home. My question is, can I load a theme on top of it, I prefer the digital "lcd" clock style over the chrome one you have in this ROM.

Thanks,

Cameron

Selection of the brightness adjust in Launcher does nothing. And testing continues...

Testing "Alex.v5.ATT.161.Home" ROM.

A quick mention: Alex, appreciate NOT having your usual splash screen there at boot up. Love the work you and all the others do and really appreciate it. However, I just don't like other people's name plastered on my stuff.

I'm using the alien theme digital clock you get with the HTC Home custimization and it works nicely. Get a copy of the app to select your fave. The digital theme works fine as well. Tried it earlier.

Also I added the animated.gif htc logo in the windows directory and enabled it in the registry but it is not showing up like it has done on previous roms I have added it to. Any ideas?

Is there any way to get the band selection tab in an AT&T rom? I enabled it in KaiserTweak but it still doesn't show up.

I think it is also a good idea to take out the "Error Reporting" stuff to free up some more storage space.

Is there any way to get the band selection tab in an AT&T rom? I enabled it in KaiserTweak but it still doesn't show up.

I've begun doing diffs to determine the differences between 1.81 and 1.56 and noticed some significant changes to backlight.dll, battdrvr.dll, ddi.dll, phonesetting.dll, qctdrv.dll, rilphone.dll tnetw1251.dll.

I've never successfully been able to enable the band selection tab on AT&T, but I've only taken a cursory glance at it. I have a couple of fixes needed for the AT&T ROMs, so I'll take a look at it when I'm done with HTC 1.81.

edit2: Forgot to include gif animation at startup. You can add the following in regedit. Opt out of the wavefile & volumn if you don't want sounds.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation]
"GIFFile"="\\Windows\\animated.gif"
"WAVFile"="\\Windows\\startup.wav"
"Enabled"=dword:1
"Volumn"=dword:0000022

Error reporting the control panel setting is still in. However, the files DW.EXE, dwui.dll, dwxfer.dll and the registry entries have been removed. So, if you were to enable it, it wouldn't work. I've tried to remove the control panel settings, but I can't find the key under HKLM\Control Panel to do so. If you or any other person reading this thread knows of this key, I'd be more than happy to remove it.

Hope this helps!

Alex et al,

I think that any ROM that includes the HTC Home app should include the customizer. What are your thoughts on this?

I just flashed Alex's LITE ROM for my Tilt after using several other ROM's including XDA Live. I really like it with one exception - it echos when I make a call. It's the only ROM I've flashed that does that. Radio is correct, everything else is fine - just echos everytime I make a call from anywhere in the DFW area.

Anyone else experience that?

Two issues, not sure if it's me or the ROM. First my voicemail indicator won't go away. Got a voicemail, listened to it, deleted it and the indicator just sticks there. (could just be network issue or random glitch on me)

Second my incoming caller ID from Vonage now has 2 11 at the beginning (ie 117035551212). Vonage definitely sends the caller ID with an extra 1 but other ROMs didn't have this problem. (could be a random vonage thing)

Anyone else having either of these problems? Any ideas?

As far as I'm concerned, this is the premier ROM right now. Started with the Lite ROM and threw on some extras:

PHM Regedit
PIM Backup
TCMP and Flashvideo Bundle
MobiTV and XM Radio Unlimited
Home Plugin w/ NDA Weather Hack for localized weather
Transformers Sliding Sounds
MS Voice Command
*Working on TomTom internal GPS
*Looking for a FREE Picsel PDF Viewer cab :)

keep up the GREAT WORK Alex!

Thank you for this ROM it has been excellent so far. I installed the Home version and it is very quick and has nice features. Unfortunately, the SMS function of my contact manager is not compatible with palm sms so I was wondering how to change back to the default SMS program or the one that handled SMS in the Alex's v4 AT&T Multimedia Rom.
Thanks

This will be added to all future ROMs (including the HTC versions) and the AT&T updated versions. Thanks goes to Tiermann at PPCGeeks.

Place all your cabs in your \storage card root directory before flashing.

The first time it runs, it will run w/o stopping. Let it run and soft reset by itself.

The second time it runs, you will see the screens above. Follow through and select the apps you want to install. After installation, the device will soft reset.

If you're using the HTC versions, ignore the connection setup prompt (it will run at next soft reset).

If you need to run it again, I've also included a link in the Tools folder (TAutoinstall).

This Tier AutoInstall scheme (and the Wiki meticulous detailed documentation) are definitely going in the right direction for the forum.

How about start with a UltraClean ROM (without the HTC Connect Setup) and have all the other added stuff bundled as CABs and have the Tier AutoInstall for selective installation?

Congratulations to Alex who has set a new high bar for other ROM chefs!!! ;)

I was going to post something about the battery but i thought i d read everything to make sure it wasnt already answered... and i ran into this post... I am having the complete opposite experience with this rom. I've never went through my battery like i did after flashing this rom. i flashed it with 84% left, and i was at 27% within less than 5 hours... i know after flashing a rom, i like to mess around with it and all but definitely never had this much batt consumption. Anyways, i ll give it another shot at observing my daily use tomorrow after its 100% charged. But please do let me know if anyone else is getting their battery drained by this rom. and i almost forgot, this is the best rom i ve used. Thanks Alex. i love your work.

i think i experienced that with this rom and another. but only with one call with this rom and same with the other... i thought it was specifically because of other person on the line because it wasnt occuring with every call. Strange. i ll let you know if i experience it more after some heavy use with this rom. i ve only had it for a few hours.

Wow - this is absolutely outstanding. I went for the AT&T games version as it had many of the programs I would have installed anyway. For a ROM that I was nervous was overcluttered, it is by far the fastest and most stable ROM I've used before. What a winner!!!

Having said that, I'm running into a couple of discreet issues - not sure what I need to do to fix, but I'm sure someone around here will have an idea :-)

1) When I try using the Cyberon Voice Commander that is cooked into this ROM, I can't activate the voice dialing via BT (I've found tons of posts on BT activation, but they all seem to be about changing from the Cyberon program to Microsoft Voice Command). Any guesses on what reg tweak I'm missing?

2) When the Cyberon program didn't work quite right, I installed MS Voice Command (which I purchased a couple of months ago). Unlike on prior ROM's, this didn't work after the first attempt. When I press the activation button on the phone, instead of getting the "start talking" tone and a microphone icon, it simply gives the error tone and doesn't listen for a command. Didn't even bother trying BT with this.

3) (This one was happening on an earlier "Alex" ROM as well. Sometimes - but not all the time - the phone doesn't go into sleep mode after the designated inactivity time. In other words, my screen would just stay on (and, consequently, suck the hell out of my battery). Any guesses on why this happens and what do to about it?

Given that #1 and #2 above are likely to be fixable with some easy reg changes, and #3 has come up before, anyway, I won't let this detract from my view that this ROM is pretty damn close to perfection!

This is not a ROM issue. I've used several ROMs here. I've used both Cyberon and MS VC in different configurations, Radios and BT included. Depending on several factors, it may work or not. Sometimes a reset helped, but not usually. It seems to be related to how the SW "uses" the BT stack. I haven't found anything yet, but after running one app or another the behaviour changes. Voice, no voice, beep, no beep, response, etc.... Anyway, I'm hoping WM6.1 comes with some magic beans.

This ROM is kickin'

Update: Case in Point... Moments after writing this I was playing music and listening on my BT8010 Stereo Headphones. I clicked them to use Cyberon VC, everything worked great until after the command completed. Then the music played again, but on the external speaker instead. I paused the music, went back to the BT settings, selected the headset, (hands free and stereo are still checked) hit the refresh button anyway, played the music and viola! The music now played on the headset. This happens over and over. It makes me think that either there are bugs in the BT stack SW or these apps just don't follow the BT stack rules. Anyway, thought y'all would like to know.

Cheers.

Thanks for the kudos, although I think that's a bit too far :D

FYI, I've discovered that Tier AutoInstall requires .NET Compact Framework to run. So, what I've done on the UltraClean version is removed the 'autostart' portion and just left it as a cab installer.

For it to work, you'll just need to install .NET CF 2.0 or 3.5 first and then launch TAutoinstall from the the Tools program folder.

Almost forgot, I wasn't able to get the touch dialer working w/o disabling video calling, so I used paulay.com's black vista skin instead, which isn't too far out of theme...

All 7 ROMs are uploading now and I'll be adding the links later this afternoon.

While this might explain why I can't get the Cyberon program to work reliably, I don't understand why I'm having my problem with MSVC. My issue isn't bluetooth with that one - the program isn't even working right when activating just from the device. Still trying to make it work

May we assume that you've correctly assigned MSVC to activate using a push button? If you've done the reset things perhaps trying an assignment to a different button may show something. If you haven't already, try these and see what happens.

Now that the HTC versions are uploading, I just flashed AT&T Home and I'm not seeing any problems navigating file / folders. Is there any specific application that you or Yom may have installed that is causing this problem?

FWIW, there have been 102 downloads of Home from Megaupload and an unknown amount from Rapidshare (perhaps another 50 to 100?), so if the problem was widespread, I'd hope that there would be more people mentioning this issue.

Well, this happened before I could put a lot of the usual crap on the phone, that's why I thought it was weird...

But I did find an issue that may be a deal killer for geeks like me with more BT devices than fingers and toes :-)

While A2DP seems to work just fine, I cannot control the player from my car stereo anymore... But it is working fine on my Plantronics 855, so never mind... probably another stroke of genius from those UI giants @ Pioneer (has anyone else noticed how stupidly they designed their control interfaces?)

XMRadio / MobiTV was removed from the v4 version because the trial reset application only works when the applications are installed into \Program Files, which would duplicate the amount of space used on the ROM.

I left 1-calc out because I thought people would be more concerned about a consistent theme than a great calculator.

Its fine. You can flash the ATT Tilt with the Kaiser rom, it's fine. But I the ATT Radio will not work with the Tilt. Just simply flash a new radio.

If you are flashing the Tilt with a Kaiser rom, you will also have to fix the keyboard because some keys are inverted, which is a small cab install.

Is it just me or the Java Manager install doesn't work for Opera Mini, so I installed Alex v5 Ultra Clean and installed another Java Manager and it works perfectly. Could someone clarify.
Worked fine for me on AT&T Home.

Thanks...

So - would take the ROM that suits me... and then flash again with a RADIO version that comes loaded originally... Hope this works for me...

(first thing first - need to buy the TyTn-II)

If you flash the AT&T version, the radio (1.27.14.09) is included. You should not flash any other radio, as it will not work with the AT&T versions. (AT&T 1.61 only works with 1.27.14.09 and some rare/new others.)

If you flash the HTC version, no radio is included, so you do not need to re-flash the radio, as the radio version will not change.

Hope this helps!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=66577&d=1200794789, ok this a link to the cab, its the cingular wap media net mms settingv2 cab,
this fixed my problem, i now can send and receive video, sound and text.:)
let me know if this works

later

Going to cook these into all AT&T ROMs with MMS, as connection setup puts in the server settings for HTC ROMs. Thanks for the find!

I really hate that Palm SMS. So this will not come up when I receive a new text message. The standard SMS program is the default one? Just want to confirm!

Oie, how do I get around this service provider not existing in database message every time i reset the phone.

Usually i install dutty's connection setup on any roms that ask usually works, this one is not for some reason.

(tytn ii, rogers network canada), htc rom w/office one

Disable connection setup autodetect in settings/connections/connection setup and then install the cab.

I'll look for newer provision.zip files for HTC v5.1...

Its comes with a radio include with Alex V5. Radio works great here in the states. I've been amazed how fast GPS gets a fix, as soon as I got my tilt I flashed it with a HTC radio, so I didn't really get to experience the 14.09 radio

It's a problem with the dialpad skin, which I just confirmed by installing on the AT&T phone. Try installing http://www.paulya.com/Projects/EtDialer/Cabs/JPLDialer_Vista_Black.zip from http://www.paulya.com/dialerskins.htm and uninstalling it. Please report back, as I'm not sure it will work (and I haven't flashed back to the HTC versions yet, as I'm working on AT&T fixes)...

I'm avoiding re-cooking and re-uploading the ROMs by creating cab fixes.

Does anyone have a suggestion for another mirror? Mediafire keeps timing out for me, and combining that with trying to uploading 14 files large files on something that doesn't have an upload manager really sucks

Glad to see another person trying the ROM!

I tried out 4shared and really like its look and layout, but unfortunately, I need a better upload manager, as my upload speeds are fast, but prone to stalling and hanging through a browser. RapidShare & MegaUpload's pc based installers are stable :(

Was going to try to create an uninstaller for Palm SMS, but it's seriously PITA, as I'd need to create a cab, flash clean, install cab, grab provxml uninstall for uninstaller and then make a cab for the provxml.

Compared to that, your request sounds reasonable :D :D :D :D And don't forget to grab Tier AutoInstall cab in the wiki (and second post)!

Tier AutoInstall Missing from AT&T ROMs

I love the Tier AutoInstall feature in the HTC ROMs! 2 issues though:

How do I change the config so that my cab files are not in SD root but somewhere in a folder e.g. \Storage Card\Cabs\...?
How do I change the config so that the default installation is to SD card and not to device memory? There's a way of doing this using WinCE Cab Manager but it involves editing the cab files individually...and I have about 200+ cabs!!!

I'm not a fan of home or cube at all fyi, I actually prefer PointUI...

But there really isn't a need to cook it in, since it's all so easy to just install, especially with Tier Autoinstall. :D

As for which finger friendly apps, it's equally as easy to install. Seems like ya just need some good software reviews :D

Found this on Tiermann's Website (http://www.tiermann.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=9:tier-autoinstall&catid=2:PPC%20Apps&Itemid=2)

Note: The default search directories can be overridden by a command line.
TAutoinstall.exe "\SomePath\folder1" "\SomeOtherPath\Folder2"
You can have up to 10 search paths.

As for #2, I think you're going to need to speak with Tiermann directly for that.

So, the last two days have been better with the echo problem. I think the echo was related to network issues on AT&T during the high winds (it blows the bits backward and then the radio's have to retransmit again and you end up getting the bits at your fone twice - it's called bit latency! :D Just kidding!)

Seriously, I believe the echo is related to network issues around the north Dallas area. We'll see if it gets better over the next week.

It's a problem with the dialpad skin, which I just confirmed by installing on the AT&T phone. Ok, it was the 200+ files that caused WinCE Cab Manager to freak out. So instead, I've made one cab with the registry changes and one zip file for the timebeing.

I ran the cab and then opened the zip in total commander, selected all and copy/moved to \windows, soft reset and voila, HTC Home 2.1.1005.722 on my Today screen.

I'll look into integrating both parts into a single CAB using a manual process later...

If you installed the AT&T MMS cab that overhaulengines posted, that's only reported to fix issues on the AT&T ROMs.

On the HTC ROMs, because of Connection Setup, I haven't had a problem sending SMS or MMS.

I recommend hard resetting and re-running connection setup (located in settings/connection/connection setup). When it auto-runs, it should select a location & operator for you. Please reply with which operator it chooses, I'm also curious as to what service provider it's detecting for you, since you're in Dubai, UAE.

You can also try downloading Dutty's connection setup (which is reported to be newer) and try that out as well.

Short of those recommendations, I'm not sure what else I can do for you. If any other user is or is not experiencing this on the HTC ROMs, please chime in.

actually I don't think anyone has answered what he's really asking. CushCalc's method restores previous SMS messages that are in Palm format; your post tells people how to get to the palm SMS application in your ROM.

Kumar is asking if there is any way to restore the SMS messages his friend had in the regular SMS app to the Palm one used in your ROM. To convert them from the regular SMS app database format to the format used by the Palm threaded app.

Kumar: to my knowledge no one has done that yet but it's not high on my list of things to care about (I just lose my SMSs when I flash, so I don't care). In a brief search I didn't find anything to refute that no one has figured out that particular transfer.

EDIT: BTW Kumar in case you didn't understand this, the Palm app doesn't save the SMS messages in the same place/format as the regular SMS app does. So when the PIMBackup restore said it was successful, it was. It restored the SMS database to the correct place for the SMS app; it's just nothing is using that place/format in Alex's ROM. Hope that makes more sense for you.

No ETA, gotta take a break from all of this because my fiancee isn't happy that I've been doing this for a week straight...

Alex, as the head of your household and man of the castle, you have to put your foot down, look her in the eye, and ALWAYS, firmly and with undeniable authority, say the last word. Or words, in this case:

"Yes, honey" is suitable, or
"I'll be your slave for a week, sweetie" is another one that works great :-)

Thanks for risking thy nookie for all of us geeks. Now go lavish attention on the little lady.

Alex BTW do you know where in registry (if it's even there) the HTC Home app points to the apps for the buttons on the clock screen? You mentioned that you can click on the SMS icon there to get to the Palm app so it must be able to be changed somewhere.

The email icon doesn't brings you directly to the default email section of poutlook; it just brings you to the last selected section. I'd like to force it to bring you to the default email section but can't find the reg key for those icons.

Thank you Alex. I really appreciate all your hard work.

[QUOTE=_Alex_;1880662]If you installed the AT&T MMS cab that overhaulengines posted, that's only reported to fix issues on the AT&T ROMs.

Alex,
Found the issue! It was the call center number in the SMS program itself. Because I bought the unit in Dubai, the call center number is different. I got the correct one from AT&T US and now she works like a charm. Thanks for all of your help!

I'm having some problems with transferring files via BT with this ROM. I'm only trying to send and receive files from another BT phone. This has worked for me on every other ROM I've used except this one.

Can someone point me to a fix?

The other thing is I love the TodayAgenda is there any way that a CAB could be created for future use?

Nevermind, I found the answer to both of my questions. Google is your friend.

I have a small problem with the Lite ROM.
Whenever i recieve an sms or email it shows the notification icon on the lower left of the screen.
But it is blinking so fast and switching with the calendar that it is not possible to select the notification.

Is this a bug or is it a setting ?
Tried to search the forum and found 1 other person with the same problem but he was running dutty v4.

I got my friend who has a TyTn-II. He basically had the ROM - original from factory. And loaded the HOME version (only version I managed to download from megadnld)

Well we did a backup of messages and all stuffs from PIMBackup... and restored. It said as 'restore' success.... However I have no clue for the following simple Qs...

- where is the SMS inbox??
- where are the stored messages???

anyone please advice!!!

A not very elegant solution would be to flash to a clean ROM (one that doesn't have Palm SMS), restore the messages, install Palm SMS to migrate the messages, and then follow the previous posts on how to back up the Palm SMS messages. Then you can flash to the ROM that you like with the ability to restore.

This is due to the battery meter that is displayed via QuickMenu. Just disable it, and you will be fine.

This was an issue that bothered me for a long time, and took me a while to find. Hope this helps.

I'm using the "Home" Rom. Not sure if it's been mentioned, but when you asign the calendar function to the softkey (the right softkey specifically) and try to open it, it says "HTC Calendar can't open...etc etc". However, when you go through the start menu and open the calendar, it opens fine.

SMS restore WILL definitely be a requirement. Cus - I saw atleast 560+ SMS in the inbox alone.

Did notice just from preliminary results that the battery would drain a little faster.

I also noticed that default pp was 6mb. I am very curious to see if battery drainage is due to an increased page pool.

However with Dutty's WM6.1 Secret BETA. The one he sent out before the real BETA came out. I got a battery life of 527 min. Which is pretty astounding. Never got around to test on the 50mb pp cause I saw all these new ROM's come out. I've already flashed 5 times in 2 hours. I'm definitely getting my fix right now.

It's a open beta. There are bound to be bugs. Nobody is expecting you to keep it on your phone forever.

Since i use the Home ROM and I'm sure plenty of others do too, I thought I'd share the same apps + WM6.1.

HH_Cities.XML (or something similar) is the file that contains the cities. If it has appeared in others, it can be replaced in these. Do you know of a cab or a ROM that has this, so I can extract and make a cab w/only the XML file you need?

Thanks for posting this benchmark Pietrucci - I appreciate your diligence & hard work but disagree with your conclusion - these results IMHO appear to be essentially equal - the biggest difference between best and worst in any single test appear to be roughly 8%, with most tests closer to 4% which may be within the standard deviation given our testing conditions. No one rom was consistently better than the others and not infrequently, the 6.0 roms had the (slightly) faster results. I don't have a lot of experience here, but I'm guessing that's hardly noticeable under normal use conditions. Sadly, since two WM versions are included in your test, that also means that there aren't many speed improvements between 6.0 & 6.1.
As always, I could be wrong.
At any rate, we will all try Alex's (and Dutty's, Schap's, Q's...) newest rom not because it provides a huge speed increase, but because the final will be free of bloatware, stable, & carefully tested!
Cheers

People were going on and on for many MANY threads (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1879253) about how great this DLL was, but most people couldn't use it, because it required commercial software and a complicated swap method to make it work.

So here I come along, trying to find out why Panosha's & WizeMan's ROMs are quicker (Panosha's ROM has benchmarks, WizeMan says he used the same method), and come upon the D3D thread (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1879164&postcount=154)

I read this arcane methodology of DLL installation and I figure, hey, I can throw this damn thing into a cab and voila, everyone can test it, so I did.

I was curious to see the results and was happy that I thought I found my solution, so I posted a couple of things in this thread, linking it to the thread where I posted the cab. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1879253&postcount=717)

Since this argument had been going on for quite some time, and some folks were swearing that this DLL makes the Kaiser feel like it's direct input to the visual cortex (over exaggeration) and others claiming that it increased battery life by 2 hours, I just had to benchmark it myself.

After only two benchmarks on the modified DLL and the stock DLL, I reached the conclusion that no further testing is needed because there is no difference using either DLL and posted these benchmarks and my findings back to the original thread, but did not change my post in THIS thread.

So.... the cab file has now wound up in countless people's archives, with reposts occurring with increasing frequency and with many more people installing it because of the simplicity of installation, and now we have n00bs crashing their phones because of it...

*SIGH* Hope this helps.

Interesting. I would ask you, then - what do you think, subjectively? Does it seem faster to you?

It could all be WM6.1 or just us wishing it was faster, but there could also be substance to it. Those benchmarks were for 3D tests, the driver could be for 2D only (DirectDraw). Also, it could purely increase the rate at which things get to the screen (analog of a FPS increase).

There are a lot of things which would produce a visual performance increase without a benchmark performance increase. It could add a local frame buffer to the MSM chip so drawing takes less time, etc. etc.

Or, it could just be doing nothing. Anyway, it's even worse than just speculation unless you notice the same thing we are, which is why I ask - you would have a better idea, as somoene who has used plenty of roms at plenty of stages of working :)

The DLL had nothing to do with WM6.1, it was pulled from a LG KS20 running WM6 a couple of weeks/months back. How it got confused with WM6.1 is beyond me...

edit2: heck, if it goes any further, it'll need its own snopes entry :P

HH_Cities.XML (or something similar) is the file that contains the cities. If it has appeared in others, it can be replaced in these. Do you know of a cab or a ROM that has this, so I can extract and make a cab w/only the XML file you need?

I tried copying the file from my other Kaiser as this is running duttys 6.1 beta, which is working for this selection. But it still does not work so must be something deeper going on. I did compare the entries within both files and they looked identical for the "baskingstoke and deane".

It is not a big deal just an annoyance really.

Do you have a cab for the color version of the home screen as would like to install it on my other phone.

Thanks for all the hard work you put in to these roms.

Looks like a great Rom but that clock with the bevel really puts me down.

Bevels / Emboss are pretty Photoshop-1998. Remeber the 3d buttons ? yuck :)
