for some time my battery has been showing some strange behaviour. When it reaches 20% without being plugged in, my prophet suddenly turns off. And shortly after powering on, it does so again.

now, i guess my battery has lost some capacity, which is a bit surprising since it did not show this behaviour some time ago. and moreover, i thought lion batteries do not have memory effect...

is there any way of reseting the battery, or at least adjust the display of remaining power?

cheers.

how old is your battery now?

lithium batteries have little memory effect but it does not mean it can be used forever. the internal resistence will build up as it ages.

if you consider a new battery, which is less than USD20 delivered, have a look at this: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=190194376659&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT

thanks for your respons.

my battery is as old as my device, in other words: almost 2 years (20 months or something). could it have happened through flashing several roms? or may one of those roms have damaged the battery's capacity indicator?

it is not long ago that my device discharged regularily down to 6 or 5% giving me proper warning messages. but now it just turns off when it reaches 20%, which is weird...

last summer i bought a docking station where i put it every day when i do not use my device. but only recently have i noticed this strange behaviour. so i doubt it has something to do with it, does it?

well, any ideas apart from buying a new one?

i do not know how and why, but my battery seems to have recovered just by itself. two days ago it shut down at 20% as it had done before. but when i started my device again, the indicator showed 0%, and since then all is working fine again... that is weird, but fair enough. :)

cheerio.

I've got the same behaviour, but only since upgrading to WM6.1 (Korand's WWE)

This (more processing needs) plus my emails are now via activesync and the fact the phone is about 18 months old - makes me think the battery needs replacing!

@chriskay, did a new battery sort out your problem?

well not really, but it is not an original battery. it is a cheap one from china. it shows the same behaviour, but now only at 6%. i still have the feeling, it has something to do with hardspl.

Interesting point - though I soft-SPL'd before the upgrade. My phone switches off anywhere between 19% and 12% at the moment.
