Will post when I get home for sure. Basic HTC startup screen with Windows Mobile Logo but below it says "Version 6.1"

really weird...phone is booting up now and Bluetooth automatically came on? Never seen that before. Performing hard reset after flash...hopefully solves the problem.

Yeah, I just noticed that as well. I believe it has something to do with the getting started page which shows bluetooth. I could be wrong.

Yeh i agree there, sluggish is a good word because its not slow but IMO schaps's last WM6 was quite noticably quicker.

Other peoples oppinions on speed?

Anyone know how to make the Threaded SMS show if you've typed over 160 characters? That's the only thing it's missing to make it perfect.

Edit: when someone texts me with more than 160 characters, it come through as 2 replies. It used to combine them into one text.

Guys i dont know if this is just me, so if it is tell me and ill shut up :p

For something that Microsoft has been working on for a fair amount of time now, i know not as long as WM7 or anything but would you say its worth it? I dont think i would.
There are VERY little changes, we all have issues with speed (although this could be due to it being a BETA i suppose)

PIE, is still so slow its unreal, the new zoom out feature is very clever, but its so unbelieveably slow its completely unusable, the device crawls to a halt if you try and scroll down whilst in the zoom out mode whilst it loads the snapshot of the site.

I dont wanna seem like a moaning fart because im glad that MS are working on there Mobile OS but i just cant really see the point in this version?

Undac - I can open VOIP Settings fine mate, also Wi-Fi settings change fine. Not calling you a liar, just saying so that you know its not a bug on the ROM but a device specific one. :)

I don't post often, but I have flashed my fair share of roms on five different devices.

This seems to every bit as fast as the 4.31 from Schaps. Feels pretty snappy to me....

Weird, where is the eye candy?? It's not seeming to sluggish to me, though I havn't added any apps or anything.. just set up phone/live mail.

On a related note, i don't like how they changed windows live mail to "hotmail" in my pocket outlook  Live Mail sounds cooler ^^.

jaso2005
31st January 2008, 02:50 AM
its strange because some aspects are fast, the screen change on keyboard opening / closing is the fastest ive ever seen, but the general use seems sluggish.

Also this ROM seems to be a battery eater, Doing pretty much anything with bluetooth, WiFi etc turned off seems to use around 425mA, idle seems to use around 30mA.
With 4.31 it used 425mA with everything turned on, aka Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, everything and used to idle around 5mA. But we shall see how it goes, this is only after an hour of use so things are bound to change.

I think this ROM definately has potential, The Schaps master needs to get his hands on it and have a real good tweak i think.

Here are some issues that I have seen so far:

1.) Can't send/receive e-mails from personal e-mail account but I CAN go on Pocket IE.
2.) Keyboard backlighting is awkward, doesn't seem to illuminate the keys when it should and remains dark a majority of the time
3.) The key "!" and "@" are mixed up, if you press "Fn" then "!", you will get a "@" instead of a "!".

So far other than that, the speed is nice, I have no issues with speed. And I did perform a hard reset after updating to this ROM

I have not really noticed any reception difference between the different radios. Only very slight variation. If you are mostly concerned with battery life then check it out. Otherwise flash to each ROM and see which one works best for you.

This is only an opinion. To everyone else, jump on in, you might like it. It's just not for me. A little unorganized, however a little work on my part and that could change.:D

radio 1.27.14.09 - The estimated Battery life from (0 to 100%) of this battery, working in this condition is: 419.4 min.

So 14.09 is the best radio for battery life overall? Just curious, were the power management tweaks applied?

That is caused by the "Automatic Date and Time" in the phone settings. If you have it checked, then Active Sync will always start up on a soft reset. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

i've been messing with this for a few hours. i think everyone maybe a tad disappointed. see....there isn't a whole host of new things to play with, and new features to make us thank the rain gods. but instead....they've seem to make wm6.1 veeeeery stable. I remember flashing wm6 on my hermes for the first time from wm5...and let me tell you!!! that sht sucked azz! but here it is....a few hours later....and i cant find any bugs at all. and belive me i been looking. It does seem to run alot better the more time goes. its alot more smooth now than a few hours ago when i flashed it. I did how ever change the rom to a 50mb pp....there in lies my only issue. batt life. the stock 32mb felt like nothing special.....but by cranking it up it feels like a well cooked rom! lets keep in mind this is beta...and this is still early build. im very interested to see how wm6.1 will help the cooking communities!

ramontrotman
31st January 2008, 07:48 AM
i'd also like to add...i think because of the stability of 6.1. now we'll see the true skill of the cooks. that meaning....they dont have to spend time fixing issues...they can spend time tweaking and squeezing ever bit of performance out the roms. i must say this version feels very much like a schap's build. from the past experinces with schaps roms, he doesnt shoot for balls out speed, he tries to give you best of all worlds. and he always hits his mark. this is also the reason i pumped it up to 50mb....i myself prefer a blinding speed! i can't wait to see what our good friend dutty does. also want to see itje and q mobile's offering. great job schaps!

Aside from that...after the flash and 2 hard resets, this seems to be working great. Will test extensively tomorrow.

Hey,

Avantis u got those words righ as i wanted to say the same. I dont know about u but i have this rom for an hour and its actuallt very fast and stable. I noticed that with 15.32 radio it has the best signal strenght on both gsm and 3g. Also wifi has the strongest signal reception yet. It's actually so fast, i'm going to keep it!

Keep in mind that this is a Beta version, and I couldn't work on specific optimizations as I don't have any device to test. Final ROMs should come with new drivers and other stuffs...

Another issue: this ROM seems to come loaded with the old version of the new camera so to speak (ie it doesn't have the fixed graphics)
What is the issue with Camera app? What are those fixed graphics?

Whoa, battery drain was pretty hefty with this release.
Just woke up after 7 hours of sleep and when I went to sleep my phone was 78 % charged.
Now it's only 56 %.

Never seen such a drop of from a locked/sleeping device. (I've disabled all extras and applied the regular power management tweaks)

lusta1988

Yes, the battery drain is the only BIG PROBLEM of this rom. I guess it only lasts one day with medium rom as in 2 hour i lost exactly 20 percent. Oh well, waiting for the next release. I know Shaps is going to improve it based on our problems. Thanx for a great rom!

I've been reading in the various forums about the wm6.1 ROMS that are starting to crop up, and everyone seems to say that they are very fast. I was just wondering if the 2 soft buttons at the bottom of the screen have been speeded up, for instance when replying to an sms message/e-mail? The response of these buttons is so slow in wm6!

So far it seems very fast and stable.

Maybe its me, but Activesync is a LOT faster than I've ever seen!

Restoring SMS with SMS backup seems to f#ck up threaded SMS. After restoring there is a list of old SMS, but not shown as threads. As soon as a new one comes in, the old ones are not displayed anymore but all new are listed as threads. (very nice btw)

Very promissing!!

Hello Schaps,

thanx for the ROM at first!!! You are the Best :)

Ok, here are my impressions:

1. Speed? I can't complain. About same as 4.31, maybe faster but I had a lot of prog's installed in 4.31.

2. email polling is working from the scratch. In all ROMC before (also factory ROM), I had to disable the Task Manager at the Home Screen and automatic date/time sync.

3. I had some connectivity problems to GPRS/EDGE under WM6. When I opened a web page and a few seconds later i tried another one, I got the errormessage the page cannot be found. This is now looking also better (no problems until now).

4. Quality with my Jabra headset seems to be better. I didn't try in the car yet, we will see.
5. WiFi will be tested in the evening.

6. Tested additional prog's: iGO, Core player, Code Wallet, universal converter, office and all are working. BCR is not working with error message not enough memory

7. About battery drainage. No idea yet, will check in the next days.

Thanx again Schaps,

g-fall

Thanks for making this available Schaps!

My thoughts:

Speed seems OK. Better than OK, speed actually seems very nice.
Hardware keyboard might be working better with this rom than any I've used before. Which is a massive plus point for me.
Threaded SMS is very nice - leads to a much tidier inbox as each conversation gets its own line, rather than every message. Also makes deleting pointless conversations easier. I like.
Task Manager is cool - I'm assuming this is part of WM6.1 as there's no "running programs" under memory any more.
PIE update also seems nice, pages load quicker, it seems more responsive. Not sure how much use zoom out is...time will tell...
Shame we've not got the Today plugin, but I can wait for that.
Activesync to Exchange seems to be working fine - although the wizard's changed a little, which threw me!

Overall, a nice little update. It's certainly not revolutionary, but if bugs have been squashed and performance improved, then I'm happy :)

I am on a Tilt, and I am seeming to be running into several problems.

1. Inital startup and setup graphics are white with text showing up on occasion.

2. NetCFv35 errors: errors out opening adanced config and when you do a long press power off, Schap's menu errors out. I have tried to install a MS version of netcf it will not install correctly, so i tried dutty's fixed version, it install but does not fix this problem.

3. HTC Home will not load.

4. Quick launch seems to haveproblems aswell seeing the BG is a cluster of colors.

And yes I have soft and hard eset several times.

Ok. now keep this radio and do a hard reset by pushing both your soft keys and the reset button. If not, flash it again and do a hard reset before you align the screen. That should do something. If not, then it could probably always be a problem with your tilt, or tilts in general as this is still beta release. In that cas, i recommend other great roms such as q-mobile 1.2. Cheers

It looks great, but I had to go back to your older version. I was getting some hangups that made no sense. I will try it again when I have a little more time. BTW, I do not like the "Touch" and HTC stuff so I always turn that off and it does not appear on my Today Screen. Thay may contribute to the problems I have. I like the Microsoft model better with third party products like PhoneAlarm, PocketBreeze, and PockeWeather as my only Today Plug-ins. Those plug-ins may be causing the problem.

Some observations:

1. If you use AdvancedConfig to set all of IE's setting to use the memory stick, IE bombs every time you use it.
2. The GPS signal seems quite weak. I now have to stand by a window to get even a couple of sat's, whereas I used to be able to lock on to 9 just by sitting anywhere in my office.
3. QUICK ROM and mucho thanks to Schaps!

This is great, thanks! I do have one question before I flash it:

The one major thing I've been waiting for with WM 6.1 is better S/MIME support that was supposed to be included. Does anyone know or can anyone check to see if it's not possible to send and receive signed and encrypted messages with this release? It's supposed to allow for S/MIME signing and encryption and usage of digital certificates with Exchange 2007.

If someone can check this out, I would be grateful! Haven't downloaded it yet, but if it's there, you can expect to see a donation from me, Schap! ;)

I am also not able to sync properly via activesync - "Activesync encountered a problem on the desktop - Support Code: 86000107."

Hi, I've done some speedtesting using SPBBenchmark.

I compared this ROM to Schaps 4.31 Full, udK 6.3 RO and Dutty's v4 on my TyTn II.
According the objective(?) results this WM6.1 beta isn't faster than these WM6.
But then again: what are figures...

Conditions:
- all ROMs without any extra's installed, HTC Home disabled
- File System Cache = 8Mb, File System Filter = 32K en GDI/Font (Glyphcache) = 128 K

Having the same issue

I paired with both my Jawbone and my Sony Ericsson just fine and sounded great.

I have noticed some issues with PhoneAlarm from pocketmax but I doubt highly it is WM6.1 related but likely PhoneAlarm's problem.

Other than that, I tested TomTom, GoogleMaps, MS LiveSearch today with GPS and had no problems at all...seemed to get a fix a bit faster than I had remembered.

Resco.net Media Suite, SpriteBackup and Terminator, HudsonMobile PhoneDash Board and IP Dashboard, Soti.net and EWallet 6.0 all worked just as expected. No issues.

I have ActiveSync DirectPush to my 07' Exchange, MS Live and 2 other pop email accounts all work fine as well.

have flashed the rom for abt 17hrs now
here's my take

1 - battery drain after initial flash was very heavy. used about about 50% when i could get about 20-30% drain from other roms. just did a full recharge - will see how it goes now.
2 - i like the threaded sms - but found 1 problem. when replying to a message - i cannot add other recipients to it? (maybe an issue with all threaded sms softwares...) also in the threads, i no longer see the count of characters... which means i don't know if i'm replying as 1, 2 or more smses.
however when i do a NEW SMS - i can add different recipients, and character count is there (prob because it opens the default/old sms page)
3 - haven't seen any replies on issue of time bomb. but from what i read in the hermes 6.1 forum - the time check issue appeared moment date was put in and activesync set up. i have done both and it seems like it's running smooth, so i'm guessing the time bomb issues been overcome in this one
4 - i installed a directory version of htc album - but seems like it doesn't work too well, hangs in the directory page.

these are all small issues - the rom is great. nice and fast. no issues with hang ups or anything like that.
thanks schaps!

Yeah, it seems to set a default sig of that when you add an Exchange account. You can just delete the sig, but I quite like having that there.

Thanx again Schaps,

g-fall

ok, here is an update.

Battery drainage is higher then in 4.31. Last night I charged the phone finally completely and now I will look how it goes. (I made no tweaks yet)

The phone is more often freezing, also for a longer time then in 4.31.

When an incoming call is rejected, the phone is freezing always for about 10...15 seconds.

may i echo my many thanks to the head chef SCHAP - thank you and many like you - i would like to donate, but only if i had a snail mail address and can send cash.

on the battery drain - could it be that - at least on mine - the programs do not close completely when pressing the x button? also when i go to start, setting, system, memory

I only get main and storage card tabs, no running program tab

maybe i need to do another hard reset (battery drain is never a problem for me as I only need 8 hours per day).

I too like many of us have too many programs on my phone to tell if it is faster that the previous version, my stuff is lighting fast - don't belive if my phone could get any faster, my only concern now is stability - my problem would be due to too many programs, and not the master cook's fault - i am aware that we put unknownly put programs on our phone and it may conflict with another program, for me the fault is conflict with program and not the cook.

If the Head Chef give us a nice pot of soup and we start putting mess in in and it start tasting like mess, can't blame the cook. Again, thanks and I look forward to some update, because I know they are coming, like someone else said the world card mobile is not working probably, i do not use just tested because i read that it could be a problem, my phone does not say memory full, it takes the card read it but does not save it to my contact.

Just to be clear, my feedback is just an observation of things which can maybe improved. This ROM is a beta so and a first shot as Schaps said. So, this is NO COMPLAINT AT ALL! Especially, you get it for free (donation is up to everybodies own decision).
Schaps is doing an incredible job here (he has no Kaiser for testing, keep this in mind). Thank's a lot Schaps for this.

Overall, I have to say, even this is a beta, I will keep it. Unless Schaps is not offering a new one :)

If I remember correctly... there is a Tilt keyboard fix that you need to install...

I have been running Schap's 6.1 for a couple of days. I like it. Battery is about the same as 6.0, and there are a few things that are nice to have, like the conversation format in SMS.

Also, this version fixed the smart dialing problem I had with 6.0 (would not work on the HTC dialer).

However, yes, there's always a however, they keyboard still doesn't work properly on my Tilt. I installed the keyboard fix from Taurus Bulba and then changed with Advanced Config the layout to Cingular. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to fix the combination of Fn+Space which is supposed to change add accents to the letters... This works in the ATT Rom, and worked on my Hermes with Schap's. But the Tilt doesn't seem to be getting along on this issue with Schap's Rom (6.0 or 6.1, same thing).

Any suggestions?

One thing I noticed is that when i tried to set up my gmail on imap, it would not give me the option of manually configuring my settings and automatically set it up as pop (vastly inferior to imap_. I had to trick it by putting a random letter after the @ sign instead of @gmail.com and then go change the email address after I had set up the IMAP server. Hope this helps someone, i dunno if this is a ROM thing or a WM 6.1 thing.

Thanks,

The text message section (grouping them) is a fantastic addition. What I do not like is in the contacts/address book, you do not have an option to slide the scroll bar to fast forward. It just shows the alphabet. I like the old way of sliding the scroll bar to toggle through the list. The battery does seem to drain quickly. Why when you finish a phone call, does the back light dim? You must turn off the unit and back on to get the backlight back to normal brightness.Thay Schap for a great ROM...

I've had mostly similar impressions of this beta like a few other people who are currently testing:

Bluetooth connection auto-on on each soft-reset: quite annoying
Battery drainage: huge drain and may be linked to the auto-on bluetooth connectivity at boot
Speed: not an issue for me as I tend to run at higher than default pagepool settings and the ROM performs great!
OTA active sync connectivity with Exchange server: here is the deal-breaker for me! Try as much as I could I can't get to sync with my work server. Tried the "domain enroll" function, that didn't work at all. Tried normal exchange server setup process several times to no avail. I've downgraded to WM6.0 and OTA now works perfectly!
Threaded SMS: I think it's an awesome feature - love it!
Was I expecting too much from this, or should we wait and see what the final release will be like? Probably...

I have just installed the "vista" cube..It compliments it perfectly...:)

Vista Cube seems to work well, but it's not perfect. The 6 app side of the cube doesn't show any text below each icon. Did I do something wrong?

Anyways, I modded xplode's cube cab for this rom and included. Pretty much just removed ftouchflo since schap's rom already has it. Also removed touch settings and cube config since these are available separately if you need it.

CarlosP's touch settings is available at http://ww2.fatattitude.com/software/software-item.aspx?appid=10

Great rom by the way. No real issues for me. Speed is good and battery is about the same as my old rom. Thanks!

This is probably the most stable and best-feeling ROM I've used! (I flash almost every time there is a new release)

However I am not able to set the HTC home to load weather for my city, even using all variants of the Home Customizer. The only way it works for me is to install the HTC Home 2.1-n2a, and SdkCerts cabs on top of the Home plugin already included in this ROM. Then Customize with v10b5 and it pulls my weather perfectly.

Please consider using the HTC Home 2.1-n2a version of the plugin for your final release. I'll be happy to email that cab file to you if you don't have it.

Thank you for your hard work!

i've found something interesting on this rom...
ususally after all my setup on a new rom, i will run through SKTOOLS to tidy up, using clean, registry optimiser, removing dead registry values, cleaning up dead and duplicate notifications, plus customising SIPs and startup.

interestingly, when i use the clean feature on this ROM - the phone will not sound with an incoming call. when i go to settings page to change the ringtone - it hangs in that page. when i try to change in sounds and notifications page, also cannot.
in fact there was nothing i could to undo this issue, that i had to do a hard reset, and slowly troubleshoot to find out which action caused the problem.
never had this issue with other ROMs before.
also under notifications queue, there are alot of items that are automatically checked - which never happened before also - making the removing of specific notifications very tedious..

I have on issue, I hope someone can help me here. When first installed the ROM, I synced my phone with Outlook, however, NOT all of my contacts transferred. It is missing about 25 out of 296. Also, when I link, it duplicate the contacts names in Outlook. Is there a fix that I am not aware of? I searched but found nothing that answers my concern.

The phone is more often freezing, also for a longer time then in 4.31.

When an incoming call is rejected, the phone is freezing always for about 10...15 seconds.

i have to make my battery drain statement a little bit more precise. After several days of usage now, I observed the following.

I charged the battery last Thurday morning and during the weekend the phone was just moderately used (some calls, some SMS, email update every 4h). On Sunday evening the battery was at 38%. So, if the phone is in idle, the drainage is quite reasonable.
On the other hand it look that some application drain the battery in WM6.1 faster than in 6.0. In my opinion the game "ICBM" (my favorite at the moment). Here you can watch the battery meter going down.
I will try to check also other apps for such a behavior.

Yes, same here. You can open the file in Audio Manager, but you have to do so manually within Audio Manager. I encountered that problem and went to the File Association tab of Advanced Config. HOWEVER, that tab is not present on my phone.

So, perhaps there's some connection between a file type we can't open and the inability to modify file types. But, I'm not gunna pretend like I know :)
