Camera focusing & shutter sound

Dear all,

Cruise is an amazing device, except the annoying focusing & shutter sound while trying to take photo for some document. There doesn't seem to have any shutter sound option in the camera advance menu as Kaiser does. Changing the registry in HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Common\DisableShutterSoun d=1 did not work either.
Does anyone know any tweak to turn it off?
My Cruise is CHT version of TW.

Maybe CHT version hide the shutter sound option for some reason.
Would you mind posting the registry export from the Camera section that I might find the difference. Thanks a lot!

I heard somewhere that some countries force cameras to have a shutter sound in order to make you unable to shoot without being seen.
That's what I was told when I had this "problem" with a siemens device (S65)

Or maybe you just missed the option ;)
It's in the advaced menu, bottom right corner of the screen in camera mode

Thanks for the advise.
However, after a few registry modifications, I realized that the option has been prohibitted by CHT so there is no way to turn it on.
The major problem is the \Windows\fes.ini file is built in ROM and is not erasable. Unless there is some way to delete the file by modifying the ROM, the annoying noise is always there :(

The only hope is customized ROM or unlocking tools. Thanks again!

Just an idea. The sound is a wav file. Find it and replace it with a dummy :D

Standard in Camera settings to switch shutter sound on/off, at least in the UK version.

You've got a chinese version and camera sound is embedded on the OS and you can't edit or override it as it's illigal to use a camera without a shutter sound in china. Your only chance is a cooked ROM which is coming out in a month or so(Hopefully) after Olipro release an SPL/HardSPL/CID Unlocker patch.:cool:

Actually the mute does not affect the camera sound like some Nokia phones.
The sound was built in the OS so the only hope is cooked rom.

I just brought the hTC Cruise from Hong Kong, it is CHT OS version: 1.27.832.1 CHT. Luckly the camera has the shutter sound on/off option in camera setup page two.

Mine is a CHT Hong Kong version and glad that it have the option to turn on/off the shutter/focus sound:) I can tell the camera respond much faster after turning that annoying sound off :D
