Flashed the rom last night, exchange and syncing works ok.

Couple of issues I've noticed:

The Battery Icon on the Top bar doesnt update.
Call History (as previously mentioned) is by far more unstable than the original rom.

Yes, I'm aware of that.

The main battery is showing 76% charge remaining, while the icon is still on 100%.

When I had done soft rest with the device plugged into the USB, the symbol remained on 'Plugged in' until another soft reset. I dare say if I do a soft reset now, the symbol on the top bar will go down to 70/80% and stay there.

I understand using this ROM on a 20-key keyboard makes the hardware keyboard not usable, correct ?

I found info on MoDaCo forums about a file in \Windows called "eT9.Nike.20Keys.kmap.txt", which maps hardware keys to a specific locale.

Would it be possible to add a modified version of this file in order to make this ROM useable on a 20-key Niki ?

ok then, I will give this ROM a try sometime soon. only thing is I'll have to backup my operator connection settings carefully (wap, web, mms, user agent) before doing this !

would be good to have a thread somewhere listing all this info for as many operators as possible !

Managed to get the ROM loaded and working, very good, one small problem though after a soft reset the touch screen dies (not function at all) the only way out is to re-flash, which I did once and the same issue occurred, any ideas ?

i've noticed three things since installing this ROM yesterday:

1. when i bring up my touch screen keyboard, the bottom bar on the screen turns into a very thin sliver so that i can't touch the keyboard icon to minimize the keyboard. so, for example, if i'm sending a SMS, i get it all typed out and then can't get rid of the keyboard to click send.

anyone else seeing it with this ROM? any way to resolve? the only way i can fix is to soft reset.

2. HTC Home - I have Favorite People checked on the today settings and that icon doesn't show up on my HTC Home screen. Do I have to change something in the registry?

3. Volume button on the side does not work at all. Volume icon on the top bar drops down and then locks up my niki. Any way to fix?

this ROM do not support international (russian letters) for quick search in contacts and messages. For example, when I press 7 on keypad (where is russian X letter located) in contacts view contacts beginning with X is not showing.
Seems this is problem in the ROM because such functionality is supported on WWE ROM without any localization.

What do you think about this?

I've got an 16 key phone, but the soft keyboard comes up as a 20 key layout. It's impossible to use since you don't have the last 4 keys. Is there a way to set a registry fix so that it comes up as a 16 digit keyboard insted?

Hi since the Dual is a Tri Band, we dont get to use 3G here in the US. Would opening the HSDPA functionality mean that we can make use of the 1900 chanel for faster internet? Im sorry if it's a dumb question....I love the phone but hate that I gave up 3G

yes, using any keyboard which support russian or by installling Kaizer_HTC_Dual_Keyboard_En_Ru.cab from 4pda.ru. Russian locale and fonts are suported too by OS by default.
Everything works ok but key mapping for fast search in contacts and messages (see above).
Hope Tom will help us make keymapping permanent in the registry.

To get the favourite people tab, goto registry
HKLM/Software/OEM
and delete the MASD registry key.

Soft-reset and voila.

am using phonealarm 1.66.1 and it works very well now.
Had a problem with 1.66 (with screen lock ups, but never the operator, signal and the items that you have described) and had to revert to 1.65.1 full to make it work.
Was ok from 1.66.1 beta onwards.

Hi I use an app called PhoneAlarm to manage profile switching and track billing etc. Since installing this ROM all of the pop ups which show information such as battery remaining, signal strength, memory etc aren't working, its as though they can't access the information.

I have contacted the developers of the app who say they have it running on WM6.1 with no problems. Since posting on their forums a number of other users who have installed your ROM have also reported the same issue. Is there anything you can think of that would be causing this?

Hi Tom,

WHen i first installed your rom, i was able to get out the big icons for the utilities located on the top right corner of the screen (Signal, Volume, 3G/GPRS) when i pressed on those keys, a menu with larger icons would pop out allowing me to press with greater ease.

after using the rom for a longer period of time, i did not install any new programs, nor did i knowingly change any settings, the large icons were no longer accessible to me.

Could you shed some light on how to enable this feature again?

I have T-mobile in the States and never see 3g. Edge is all I get.

I dont think 3G will work in the US, I may be wrong but
just figured there was no way to get HSPDA to work on the other band because of hardware limitations and not limited by the rom.

I can't. I've tried it like over 10 times but I just can't get the sound out. And I think that's after I disabled the converation view for sms by changing the registry key. I've just read through all the threads and realised that once i change the key, i will lose the sound.

Great job on the ROM. I have a question about roaming. Whenever I set up an email account or synchronize my device I get a warning message stating that I am currently ROAMING and that it might cost a bunch of money to continue.
My SIM is a US SIM, my local phone number shows up in all settings. Is this a bug/fluke/useless waring or is there something I am missing in the setup?

Also, this is a Tri Band phone (900/1800/1900 MHz) HSDPA runs on the 1900 band in the US, even though I have HSDPA enabled, and set the frequency manually.....I never get 3G speeds. Only E and G.

The solution to this problem was posted to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368046 recently.

There are two registry keys, either of which will disable threaded SMS:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setting s
"SMSAvailable"=dword:0

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setting s\OEM
"SMSInboxThreadingDisabled"=dword:1

The first key disables SMS notifications (and I suspect is the key that most of us have been trying), the second one doesn't and works as expected. Seems to work on my Nike running Tom's ROM.

I mucked around with some other settings trying to get this to work - I dont want to hard reset the ROM so if you could tell me what the default setting is for the following I would appreciate it:
1) 3G option under communication manager
2) SMS setting under settings (GPRS/GSM)
3) Bands setting under phone settings (there is a tab in there)

the keybd worked normaly before it was flashe . So before I could write my sms with my keybd 20key and azerty with the tom cordon rom's.
setting by step:
1-change the registry.
2-I have installed a .cab inorder to recognize the azerty.

I have a 20 key and it works for me too. If you actually READ the threads you will see that there are plenty of other people that have 20 Keys that work too. This is starting to get hammered in the ground guys... before you become a expert and give out advice you probably should read the posts in the threads too. Sorry to be so blunt...

also, i know with the stock Niki ROM, there was a setting to auto update the clock with the time from the cell provider. I can't find that in this one. does that exist? if so, i think that would take care of the daylight savings issue.

NetrunnerAT is cooking a german ultraclean one, ETA is end of the month, he is very busy at (is "at" or "in" the proper english preposition btw? I´m always striving to get better :D) his dayjob and with the WiFi/GPS for Niki Project atm, so we´ll have to wait.

ok now it seems gmail works when installing directly http://gmail.com/app/v1.5.0/L1/gmail-g.jar into JBlend...

but then I have another question (:p) : is it possible to uninstall the "Advanced Config" which is in the ROM in order to upgrade it with the newer version ? or must we keep both versions ?

I have a very strange problem with Tom's ROM : when I get a missed call, I have a new sms notification, which is normal. But when I open my messages, I see an sms telling me I have a missed call, but the sms appears to come from one of my contact which is not at all the one who called me !

Note that it is always the same contact that appears in the sms list, whatever the missed call is from, and this happens both in threaded view and in classic view...

when i try to flash tom codon's rom, the RUU cannot connect to my device. all other roms are working with sspl and hardspl, but tom's rom not. now i have the touch surface rom on the phone, but i want to try tom's. what am i maybe doin wrong?

I am so sick of the sync issues, it seems that some people have this issue and some don't, why that is I don't know and it makes it hard to fix if it is not across the board. I have tried other USB cable and the same issue, I have never had the problem with any other rom or any other phone, ever.....

snaketo: had the same problem just now. I then unpacked the exe file with the ROM using winrar (it's a winrar sfx archive). Then I simply run CustomRUU and it worked... this time it detected the device. Flashing the ROM just now. BTW., I connected the device to PC in bootloader mode.

this ROM do not support international (russian letters) for quick search in contacts and messages. For example, when I press 7 on keypad (where is russian X letter located) in contacts view contacts beginning with X is not showing.
Seems this is problem in the ROM because such functionality is supported on WWE ROM without any localization.

What do you think about this?

To everybody who have not default EN keypad - do you can find contacts on your language?

The 20keys Niki work as expected after I enabled Enable T9 in PDA Settings->ROM Settings.
The thig that I don't like, is that I don't use T9 and I don't want it enabled.

happened to me too a while ago, and it's annoying to have an analog instead of a digital clock !

but it's easy, you just have to tap & hold the clock, and you'll have a pop up with a choice to switch the clock design :)

I hear you man am having the exact same problem. Its wmdc that is the problem its a piece of crap I spent a week trying to fix the problem in the end the only thing that wokred was formatting my pc but I have no intention of doing that again.

Tom's ROM is spot on it is faster and more configurable than the crap standard HTC rom but if I can't sync my contacts the dual is of little use to me. It has been for 'repair' twice but HTC are not helpful all they did was reflash the rom and say no fault was found.

I had a tytn and wizard prior to my dual and I never had any problems with them. I don't want to get rid of my dual but dont see any other option I need a reliable phone and the dual is not reliable, I really hate to say this but it looks like I might be going back to nokia.

It seems a bit retarded that I have to put a cooked rom on to get the dual to work properly but im not complaining, if it wasnt for the cookers I dont think I would still be using windoze mobile based phones.

Yes, your right it is strange and that is part of the problem with only some people experiencing it is hard to track down what the problem is.

So just to clarify your syncing was working fine on the original HTC rom? My original rom did sync until it came back from reapir, now the original rom or Tom's rom wont sync. It says it syncing and the progress bar goes up and my notes sync but my contacts wont.

Have you checked you firewall settings? My mate has a touch cruise and his wouldn't sync due to his firewall settings (kaspersky) but I use kaspersky too and mine was syncing fine before it went for repair.

Is it worth starting a WMDC issues thread (if there isn't already one) other people must be getting this problem, we can put down all the things we have tried.

Yes you can flash your SFR phone, I've done it myself :) Bear in mind that you must first flash HardSPL before you can modify the following separate components : ROM, Radio and Splash. For any help in French for this, contact me via PM ;)

works much smoother, then stupid outlook
and in case of using portable Thunderbird you'll get you sync data portable

I dont think it is x64 that is the problem as I have had it syncing on it before.

have you tried a new cable? i had similiar issues with both the stock ROM and Tom's ROM. as it turns out, BOTH of my cables from HTC phones crapped out. things are find now that i've replaced them.

So, finally, I've setup this ROM! And it's a VERY GOOD WORK! System work better than my original ROM ! :cool:

I've just suggestion about integrated software...It's about Java...In fact I don't like the Jblend because it can't display applications in full screen mode...It's for why I've setup the Esmertec Jbed (Build ID : 20071119.3.1), most recent than the version in the original HTC ROM and it is really better (particulary speed!).Do you think it was possible to put it in a future version? (if all think like me naturally ! ^^)

You need to extract file from *.exe using a unzip software...For exemple i'm using Izarc...After extract (right clic on exe>our unzip software name>Extract...) You can obtain a file called CostumRUU, run it and after you can do update without problem ;)

Hello, I've got problems with the rom.
I tried to install the .net compact framework on the dual, and during installation it tells me that I don't have enough free memory.
It's not a problem of space, as I've got a 4 Go micro sd card, but more a ram problem.
And it's not the first time it bugs because of this.
Am I the only one having such problems, and how to resolve it ?
I tried closing all running applications, but no better...

Nope ive still got the standard sms chat style. Its just really strange how when i recieve a phone call its fine but not with texts.

2. get winrar (its free)
3. rightclick the .exe select extract here
4 there will be two files in a subfolder ruu_signed.nbh and customruu
5 have your nikki connected to activesync
6 run customruu
7 follow the instructions

Not sure if I understand what you are looking to do. But if my guess is right, all you have to do is go to Start/Settings/Lock. The lock settings should be there.

I'm now following this forums and its member's work for some weeks and would really like to contribute to all that great efforts going on here. I used some cooked ROMs for my Herald to get it going with WM6.1 and TouchFlo. However I wanted go for a new device and recently bought a Niki, it should arrive this week.

Since you're programming all that stuff I would really like to do the whole translation work to German. I'm bi-lingual and assume that I could help you out on that one.

So if you would like me to do some work, get in direct contact with me and let's get that thing translated.

for example my niki with a 20 English keyboard and i tye often in French .. and if I select French in the language it change the layout of the keyboard to French ...

I have a question though, after flashing this Rom, my hardware keyboard (16 Key T-Mobile branded Touch Dual) is not typing letters anymore, only numbers. Did I miss a configuration somewhere? :confused: I have tried on sms,email,task, appointment and contact. What can I do to make my hardware keyboard to type letters again?

MY Sim card is Spanish Vodafone. I have activated it here in Denmark and it worked.

Then I flashed the ROM adfetr having unlocked it and NOW it cannot fin the Vodafone signal or ANY OTHER supplier.

I have tried a Sonofon SIM card in the phone and this works ....

SO .. It must be something about Vodafone .... what can it be ,..??

I hope it would change by flasking back to a Vodajone / HTC rom ...

any suggestions .?

it could be a bad SIM card. see if you can find someone else with a Vodafone SIM you can put in your phone.

If you have trouble installing [ERROR 202 - Connection failed], try extracting the nbh and the CustomRUU.exe from the install package and running the exe directly, I had to do this before it would flash.

UPDATE: Phone hangs solved, it was a swedish yellowpages-search-application that caused this. Probably not compatible with WM 6.1. App name is "118 Addressboken" and LookUp.exe. It is supposed to lookup unknown phone numbers on the fly before you answer, hence phone app hung whenever i was receiving a call.
PIE hangs fixed by moving cache,cookies and history back to flashdrive and not having them on memory card.

Not being a newbie per se, I do have a problem when trying to flash my Touch Dual (NIKI100) to WM6.1 (first page of Post).

I successfully ran the Hard-SPL according to guidelines from Jocko bro. No problem there and the Rom Update Utility worked fine.

I then started the downloaded WM6.1 (50,1 MB or something along those lines). I can start TOM_Niki-Project_WM6.1_WWE_16keys_signed_Ship (PDA Phone ROM Update Utility 3.18.4.3), but immediately after the second screen (where you confirm that you want to continue) I keep getting

"ERROR [202]: Connection" (see attached PRTSCRN)

, stating that the application cannot make contact with the pda.
That can't be so!!! Both the Activesync (4.5) on my PC and my Touch Dual confirm they have a happy connection. There is an active partnership and I can also access all files on the pda. In activesync I have tried setting the indicator at sync-ing files and NOT sync-ing files, but that made no difference at all.

I ran the WM on a Vista Premium machine (as administrator) and on an XP machine. In both cases I can confirm there is a happy partnership, but still the Update Utility does not recognise there is a connection at all.

Can anyone help?:confused:

Just use WinRAR or similar extraction tool and decompress the exe archive of the ROM !

I think it´s not very sensible to edit your problem away after it has been solved.

Hello! first of all thanks for this incredible ROM. I only have one problem like others... Hardware Keyboard. No it doesnt work for my. I changed the Keyboard layout in Advanced Configuration to spanish, and then it stop working. I tried what you said about unenable T9 but it doesnt work for me.

I put the Hardware Keyboard in english and nothing (I think it was in other option diffent... like some numbers insted of language)

Any other idea?

I saw that JBlend Java is cooked into your ROM.
I dont like JBlend, so I´d like to install my own Esmertec JBED onto the NIKI after flashing.
Do you think there will be collisions or will everything be like JBlend was never included?

recently i found a new rom MARY_v0_1_Niki which was really neat! the problem is this time, not to loose my data i backed up with spritebackup. when i went and recover my file i chose everything and that might have been the problem, i had a warning/error message saying that backup was preformed on an older rom version and some data might not be recoverable, i ignored this message and now my phone wont start, it doesn't go past the welcome screen from my previous network (TMN Portugal) right after the screen with the rom and radio versions.
what can i do, i would install a new rom again but i cannot establish a connection with my pc. please help me i love my phone and dont want to loose it!! paypal donation will be made to solution provider.

Also when backing up in different roms, you have to be sure no registry items are restored since it could easily ruin your device as happened to me a few times :rolleyes:

In the first post, you could clarify that the ROM works for both 16- and 20-key versions. Would save both a lot of reading and a lot of dumb questions that prolong the reading effort even more.

Ive tried looking through this thread and dont recall seeing anything similar, does anyone have any ideas what caused this or how to fix it?

Doing a reset to defaults seems to have fixed this
