In Windows directory there are files begin with ql*.* U can change bmp files to anything u want to change icons. Or, you can edit the ql_skin_l.xml and ql_skin_p.xml to change items on the launcher as well as the icons. Just copy all the ql*.* files to your PC and change it there and then copy them back to ur ppc. Have fun.

Hi there, I get image file corrupt after about 3% any ideas?

I am currently running touch flo 3 which is fine and when I look at the download the uspl file is all there, it looks like a full package. This one only has a few files in it and I suspect I need to do a process to get it all working. Any help would be appreciated, especially as it will set me up for other ROMS that dont have all the files available to flash.

Well hi, I tried my first unoffical rom BB v5 and i relly liked it to but i have read and tried all "solutions" to the mms problem but it dosen't work. and i relly need mms service. i am in sweden and i used the "operator" app from smartmobile and these settings always worked before and i have installed the cabs for mms but nothing works i could make mms but not send or recive when using the alex arcsoft....... cab. is there anyone with same probem? or is there anyone using "TELIA" <---swedish operator) that got mms working?

means: i am using a wap flat from eplus and i need the connection preference wap.eplus.de but it doesn't works. with the preference internet.eplus.de it works but its not for free.

with Mossis 1.2 ROM everything runs fine.

INSTALLATION PROBLEM

Can anyone help me with installing Black & Blue 5 onto an XDA Orbit 1?

I downloaded file and extracted it to a folder on my PC (XP Pro).

I ran 'RUU.exe' from the PC and the usual ROM update messages appeared...

...next ..Verify Update... next... Do not remove the USB....

... ERROR 270 Update Error


I have repeated this 3 times but still the same.

What am I doing wrong ? How can I install it?

First of all, Tom......superb ROM!!! thanks for all your hard work....

I have 2 issues/questions....

1 - When I connect to GPRS for example to update my weather, I am not able to disconnect like I used to with B&B 4.3 by clicking on the "G" in my taskbar. When I clicked on the "G" I saw that I was connected with GPRS and how long I was connected and I could click on disconnect. That worked very well. With this new version I don't see that. It just tells me that I am connected with GPRS but there is no disconnect button or timer.....
I looked in the advanced options and at data connectivity I enabled the disconnect button and timmer, but still it doesn't show after numerous restarts. Can anyone please help me with this?

2 - I used to be able to choose where to automatically update the weather or not in the B&B 4.3 rom through the bioscroll options I think or just rom options. Now I am not able to do that. Each time I click on the weather button it automatically connects with GPRS and downloads new dat. Is there a way to disable this? Maybe a register key or so?

For the rest, the rom works great and looks amazing!!!

I have the right settings for my provider and i can receive email. The strange part is that i can't send email. Anyone else that has this problem and is there some fix for?

When i have GPRS or WIFI enabled i can watch the battery getting lower and lower by the minute. Is this a bug or?

Ha ! Sorted the weather problems at last - thanks to N2A and his auto-patcher @ http://weather.not2advanced.com/files/ I've successfully patched the HTCHome.dll file to accept any weather location.

The patched file has been uploaded here for anyone else ... just copy to your device and run it (using the built in file explorer on the PDA). Oh - and you might want to temporarily 'disable' the HTC plugin via the settings/today tab whilct you do this ... just to be on the safe side.

There is a A to Z index in default Contact Manager. Just simply go to CM and go to Menu -> Options and select "Show alphabetical index"

Tom, what an amazing ROM. Unfortunately I have found that the battery is discharging VERY fast. I can now go from a full charge to flat in around 5 hours. Can't wait until your next ROM but in the mean time I will be resorting to meschle 6.1 ROM in which the battery lasts a lot longer.

I had the same problem with the missing blue square in the dialer screen. I solved it by applying the theme right after a hard reset and then reinstalling all my apps. changiing the theme any other time seems to cause this.

On your previous rom it was possible to disconnect the GPRS connection by clicking on the G in the top toolbar. It also showed the connection time. Now it doesn't and everytime I want to turn it off I have to go to the comm manager.

Also on your previous rom it was possible to configure the way the weather got updated, automatically or manually. Now I can't configure it, it just downloads automatically new weather reports. I don't want that because when I am abroad it costs a lot of many to connect to GPRS. Please, how can I turn this off?

I also have a very strange behavier with the battery charge with this ROM. From full charge till 14 hours later it still says 100% with only one small call and almost no use, but if using it for this and that while the screen is on and no Wi-Fi the charge drops like a stone.

hy tom hwz u.. i've been using ur ROM since i 1st experienced B&B 4.1, and since then i've been a fan of ur releases. after v4.3, i upgraded to B&B v5.0 recently and i noticed that MMS duznt work. i went through all this forum, and downloaded Arcsoft MMS 5 cab from here, installed it, but the settings menu item is not shown anywhere in the messaging. i flashed to non-cube version of B&B 5 and still the problem exists. downloaded the cube version again and flashed, installed Arcsoft MMS 5, and still no sign of MMS settings, even though there is an option to choose MMS and SMS from New menu of messaging.
Any idea why this is happening? everything else seems to work fine around messaging.
Any help from anybody would be greatly appreciated.

congratulations it works like a charm!

Maybe it is a little bit slow (comparing to WM5) but it is due to the low processor on Artemis.
One issue (not really a bug) is when I try to setup a gmail mail account, WM6 automatically detect that it is a mail address provided by Google and try to setup automaticall servers, ports, protocoles etc. Too bad, I would like to use IMAP and not POP -> unable to change that. A workaround is to create a mail account with a false email address (for instance @gmail.co instead of @gmail.com), to have the full options available. And after that correct the address.

I confirm the battery problem.

is your pda overclocked? perhaps batterystatus have set your cpu clock speed over 201Mhz and your battery is draining fast because of this.

I use your rom B&B 4.3 ver French and I discover this rom 6.1...

But, On my pdaphone, the new rom is not more stable and speed than B&B 4.3. :mad: I'm very surprise because I listen that normally more speed :confused:

Sorry to post again a question of receiving and sending SMS.
It seems to be impossible. I tried everything I can find in any post. I tried ArcsoftMMS4.2.8.1_Fixed & _Alex__Arcsoft_MMS_5.0.31.7.

With 4.2.8 the MMS funktion appears but there is no possibility to create any simple text message (SMS) like in rom version Tom_Black-Blue_v4.3_WWE. So I reflashed my Artemis back to version 4.3 and everything works perfectly. I'm despaired. Is anybody there with a solution?

I'm pretty much disappointed.

I've been using tom's roms for the last 8 months - back from the 3.0 edition until 5.0. And for the first time i see, a rushed, buggy and amateur rom made by tom.
It's not just the rom - even the post about the rom is rushed - no additional info, no links to tools, the screenshots are actually from another device (which confused like half of the posters) AND all i can see is the "blue" from the "Black & Blue" duo :)
Also essential tools are missing - MMS (this is big one...), xcpuscalar, regedit, calc, msn messanger, wm5 storage, sap settings, pocket rar, visual gps and counting.
Don't get me wrong but the main idea of using custom rom is to have many built-in tools which offer easy way to use and/or reinstall your PDA device

Tom are u sure it's your rom? May be your roommate experiment? :)

Hi have enyone noticed tha same as me. I just tried to send an MMS and I got a promt asking me to install MMS composer. Then I checked and I don't have anything resembling any MMS setting. Under the "messege"-tab there are my mail folder and SMS folders but no MMS :(

As ScreamerBG was writing already, and everybody seems to ignore that post somehow.

Please someone give me 2 or 3 good reasons why I should invest those 3-4h to install the rom and every other application I use.

The following reasons don't count:

"The blue Theme is cool" (I don't care about how it looks, I just care about the practicability i.e. am I faster with accessing important features of the phone)
"Applications are new, the OS is 6.1 instead of 6.0, Mobile office 6.1 instead of 6.0" (simple reason: again, if it jumps from version 6 to 12, there is a difference of 6numbers, but what does it ACTUALLY change. Much more helpful would be, what the changes are. Like: "the interface changed and is more logical". Or "Uninstalling works better and Installing works even if you don't have 2x the space free, that the new application needs: installing a 5MB application, if you have 7MB free doesn't work, because it caches it first, then installes it. Installation + cache must be == free space)

"It's just great" - not really. it lacks many tiny apps - apps which were present in B&B 4.1 at least (B&B 4.3 lacks few already)
"It's much faster" - it's not. try Artemis Touch 4.01. everything is much faster there and it's noticable. the cube itself loads faster for the first time and it's responsiveness is better. the SDHC transfer rate (i got 8GB sandisk) is around 1MB/s on B&B 5.0, while on Artemis Touch 4.01 is 1.3-1.4MB/s
"The blue Theme is cool" - it doesn't look cool at all. try black glossy bars + black theme
"Applications are new, the OS is 6.1 instead of 6.0, Mobile office 6.1 instead of 6.0" - nothing noticable except threaded SMSes (which i dislike and disable) and zoom feature in PocketIE (useless, try Opera)

You are welcome. There is one major problem with Artemis Touch 4.01 (including LITE, Touch Vanilla) - you cannot restore/backup your SMS/MMS/Email data using SPB Backup (which comes free with my phone). I can confirm this problem is NOT present in Tom's B&B 5.0.
If you are going to switch to Aretmis Touch my advice is - before flashing install PPC Pim Backup v2.8, backup as most data as you can, and then flash it

The following apps are present in Artemis Touch 4.01 and come very handy:

Hbutton - assign more than 1 function to your buttons
BtIO - fast access to bluetooth config + audio redirection
SRS WOW HD - this one rocks. it works all the time - including when you phone rings. it changes the whole sound of the phone turning it to ipod/iphone clone for real.
The Core Player - no need to install TCPMP
Xnview - not better than Resco Photo Viewer but it's something :)


Extras for geeks:

Task Manager 2.8 - total control of proccesses, threads, windows and etc. only if you are geek though
Total Commander - no need to explain
PPC Backup - better than SPB Backup when it's about PIM/Email backups, but worse than SPB when it's about system backup (registry & databases)
Peek Pocket - handy wireless tool
CloseALL + Hibernate - no need to explain

Hi,
How do I change the location of the Ringtones.
I tried the normal registry hack like in WM5 but after a soft restart it reset the change.
If I choose specific MP3 file and use the "Set as Ringtone" option, it works, but I still cannot see the file in the list of available tunes.
Even if I copy an MP3 to \windows\ it still does not appear in the list.

Note: I'm aslo using Profiles for Windows Mobile. When I worked with B&B 4.2 it worked well.

Hi Guys. I got the O2 xda Orbit. Black and Blue V5.0, SDHC 8 GB. Must say its pretty good ROM.
However, it has started to act weird! sumtimes it wont allow me to go to the message in/out menu. Tried to reset a couple of times and startup without Storage card. Then it works with the message in/out menu (text, mail...etc). But then a weird thing happens. It makes a new artificial Storage card folder called "Storage card", subfolder containing some "mail attachment folder". The actual storage card folder is called: "Storage card2". Then i've tried to rename and delete so I'd only have one storage card folder called: "Storage Card", which is the actual storage card. Then I cant send/recieve or go to the message in/out menu.... and it start all over. Anyone experienced the same. Thinking about flashing the ROM again.......

I finally upgraded to this build from Black & Blue 4.2 (it ran so well that I didn't want to upgrade it for a long time) but I find that now I can't send MMS? I don't even have the option in Pocket Outlook.

Has this been taken out, or should I try to re-flash the ROM?

*Update* - I tried searching the thread for mms but it gave me 0 results. I've read more posts now and I guess it just doesn't have mms support. That's a shame - means I'll be flashing to another ROM. I liked this one until I discovered there was no mms :(

I just got my mda c3 replaced on insurance due to cracked touch screen ( glad I got the policy, saying that, I've never had a mobile outlast it's contract)

I forgot just how bad the default is :-0

Contact manager worked fine for me.
Lost the settings for T-mobile(uk), but reset and it found the network.
Not tested the radio, but hardly used it anyway.
+-+-+ edit _ radio works great ;-)

Using the Black & Blue v5 without Cube version I notice that there is no option for MMS to be added. I've added the settings for MMS via the UK Settings Wizard but now I seem unable to create a message because there is no MMS Message option, can anyone help or point me in the right direction please?

I've noticed strange behavior of my WM6 B&B 5.

If I'm running few apps on my Artemis, for ex. IM (MobileGadu), GoogleMaps and others,
when I run Opera Mini, some of those apps are disappearing.

Normally I have about 10MB free.

Do You maybe know why it's acting like that?

Thats the Lordsmiff's Battery Level indicator. Uninstall this, reset and it should be gone. I do not know why you want to remove this, its one of the best battery level indicators ever.

You will never had the memory like in the picture because it come from nikki project which had more memory inside ;)

The problem is that activesync makes the pda hangs just few second after connecting it to PC. I tried to reboot pda many times and reinstall activesync on my computer without any success.
I also removed all activesync configuration from pda (there was an exchange config) and all applications.

I don't have time to launch uspl to flash ROM so I cannot do anything.

Does someone have the problem or any solution for me please ?

well try the SD card flashing... it should works for you cuz it's don't need activesync...
and try first to flash the original ROM.

Hi all

I will be so glad if someone can help me out here, I have posted a message elsewhere but no reply.

I have a Bluetooth Hands Free Stereo in my car, and I had trouble connecting my XDA Orbit to it. However I installed the B&B ROM and it was all fixed, I assume the stack and BT settings are all spot on.

I now have a Samsung Omnia I cannot get it to connect at all.

Is there any possibility in copying the bluetooth setup of this ROM and transferring those settings to the Omnia?

I have tried the Broadcomm stack, that doesnt work - at this rate I am going to have to send the Omnia back, as I paid a lot of money for my headunit and it is now useless

If anyone can help I will be delighted because I really like the Omnia and don't want to sell it

This rom is just too slow for my xda orbit, although orbit's not the fastest in the planet in the 1st place. Still reckon greasy weasel best for speed.

just tried b&b5 (without cube)
runs excellently on my xda orbit, fast and clean

installed m2d and it ran smoother than it did on my old rom ( o2 uk official wm6 ) but didnt leave much free RAM so removed it again.

tomtom7 installed fine, as has everything else i've tried so far

is there any advantage to the cube version? i'm presuming that the 'Cube' means the earlier touchFlo stuff (which i havent tried since the early days on my old himalaya when it was a bit dodgy to say the least).
What's the general opinion out there guys, is the cube any good these days? and does it have much impact on speed / reliability / compatibility / memory

I hope you can help me - I got some serious problems with my Artemis, it's an TMobile MDA compact III with WM5 on it. I want to change it to WM6.1 because everytime i turn it off with a reminder in the calender for the next day and I turn it on again the next day the phone hangs in a loop between showing the reminder and rebooting. So far, I found your Roms and I would like to change mine - but I've got two questions: I only found one German Rom for the Artemis - called "Tom_B_B_v4.3_GER_Professional" - is there one "Tom_B_B_v5.0_with_cube" in German ?
The actual German one from the Niki - Project isn't suitable for my device, or is it?
And the next question is - whats the meaning of "cube" ?

the "HSDPA Switch" isnt on this rom

rest of screens (apart from memory usage) are about right though

I have problem with battery status. From 31. 3. 09 it tease me with message window "BatteryStatus Today-Plugin This is a shareware and you can use it 'as it is' and as long as you want! Thank you for using Battery Status". I try to reinstall it with new version (HomeScreen_PlusPlus_UI_1_06), but it doesn´t work.

Do any know, how remove the old version of battery status from this ROM? I dont´t want to install new ROM ... :-(

First of all loved ur work mate...its a really nice ROM, but i have a couple of question regarding some of the features...i have downloaded the Cube version of the ROM on my O2 XDA Orbit:

1. In da application folder der is PDA Settings ->AdvancedConfig...now wht can i do wid this option i have tried a couple of em like animate windowsm animate menus but nothing really happens execpt for tht annoying outlined box tht pops up everytime i open an application...i just want to knw which of dem are useful features.

2. PDA Settings->BatteryStatus???...any useful features??
3. I configured the BioTouch but i dont c tht black shiny screen wid big icons...is der something im missing or doing wrong to get tht screen??

4.TFSettings and RomSettings???

Friends, I've to admit the Radio ROM 3.34.90 is wonderful (not much battery drain). But not I've other problems.

I'm using GPS viewer for sat fix and NAVIGATOR 6. The former is very slow and the later is not coordinating well with it (literally, not at all).

Please advise me of a good GPS soft and Navi soft.

Hi fellows, I've just bought a 8gb sdhc class6 and plugged it to my Artemis, and guess what, it works fine. Its morethan enough for me. Then with Black&Blue V.5, while using touch flo, and press video button, and it hangs. Any solution?

flashed with this rom and it's great but i dunno how to call the cube. i 've enabled the cube in the pda settings, soft reset and it doesn't appear.

also...i've noticed a higher battery drain. Low use is giving me around 24 hrs. I'm using 3.18.90 radio. Tried 3.39.90 and the drains raises even more. Should I downgrade the radio rom?

EDIT: Reflashed my HTC. Now it's working 100%.
