efrost
3rd February 2008, 06:39 PM
Dear friends,
We are very happy to announce that FTouchSL (former FTouchFlo) officially released!
You can find it at the FTouchSL web-site: www.ftouchsl.com (http://www.ftouchsl.com)
At the moment FTouchSL available in 2 versions: trial and full. Yes, you understand right - it is not a freeware application anymore. We had to choose this way because otherwise we would need to stop development.
FTouchSL development team worked hard last few months and we believe you will like new Product available on the xDA software market.
With best regards,
FTouchSL development team.

Just ordered my copy. A note: maybe include in the website how we get it once we pay, I'm not sure if you're e-mailing it, or do I receive a key? Thanks.
Also note: I would suggest to you Efrost, maybe upload some of those videos here, that's what convinced me to buy, they look amazing.
**edit
My little review
I found the trial version very difficult to use between the popups. I was having a problem where *I think* then when I would set Up-Down to "minimize" it would freeze up and disable the "the Enable FTouchSL" checkbox and I couldn't find a way (using keyboard and hardkeys) to re-check the box (since windows touch was disabled): I think there needs to be a way to check and uncheck this using hardkeys.
with that being said:
I love the plugins. "Slide to lock" works great - You can assign Down-Up to lock, Updown to Minimize, Left-right to rotate screeen
It is a little harder to scroll a few lines at a top, you need to "chop" more, little chops with your finger otherwise teh kinetic scroll takes over and it scrolls too much, it's just a matter of getting used to it. Great product ,I recommend.

I somewhat had a feeling it will go commercial. And since it was a very good program I am not surprised. If you need help localizing it/or product webpage into Czech (just kidding :D) or Slovak language, let me know.

Hello!
Please look at the "Product info" page. It is possible to configure FTouchSL for particular applications: you can completely turn off FTouchSL, disable scrolling, disable launching, disable active corners or set up different actions.

Hello!
There are options: you can disable original TouchFLO if you want or you can disable FTouchSL scrolling function and use original TouchFLO.

I never tried this before so I loaded FTouchFlo on my att 8925. Original ROM on the phone. It locks up randomly and never did that before. Does FTouchSL work differently? I disabled TouchFlo to run FTouchFlo.
By the way, props to you for this, whether or not it works on my phone.

Think I'm one of the few privileged 'early bird' who get to test out this greatly improved version of FTouchFlo by efrost! Most of us here at xda-developers are no stranger to FTouchFlo, as well as EfrostMinimize, two great programs which made our experience in using our PPC a much pleasant one.
For those who don't quite know about FTouchFlo, in essence, FTouchFlo allows PPC users to perform scrolling without using the default tiny scroll bar that comes with WM OS. It also allows user to append different programme (for the 4 directions - up, down left & right) which will be launched by the swiping gesture of one's finger on the PPC screen.
FTouchSL has brought the above functions to yet another level. Check their official website - www.ftouchsl.com for the details. As I was greatly 'blessed' by this application, I thought I should share with all my take of & experience in using this software. Hopefully for those who are still wondering what this is or contemplating on getting it will find my 'sharing' helpful.:D
Quick Start Tutorial
I find the 'Quick Start Tutorial', put together by efrost and team to guide users (especially those who are totally new) through all the functions of FTouchSL, was very well done and useful. It will launch after the installation. Try not to skip it.
Scrolling
The scrolling under FTouchSL is much better than FTouchFlo, especially with the newly added kinetic function (like the one in PocketCM and iContact), which is a nice touch to the scrolling effect, and making scrolling through long pages (e.g. Contact listing) a breeze.
In addition, you can freely roam about a big page (e.g. web page) by keeping your finger on the screen and just move around in the direction you want, horizontally, diagonally etc.
Gestures
Instead of just launching application/files, now user can also launch plug-in (e.g. Minimize, Suspend, Soft reset, etc) and send keys (feature that simulate key press of D-Pad) for the four directions!
Active Corners
This is something new, not found in FTouchFlo. Basically, one can assign applications/functions to be launched at the 4 corners, just like gesture.
Setting Panel
Setting Penal has all the features clearly listed, with nicely drawn icons which makes it clear which feature it is, at one glance. A picture does speak a thousand words!
You can really tell efrost and team put in a lot of effort to make the Setting Panel user-friendly. You can actually see the 'zone' (colored) which you can customize for gesture and active corners, and not just trying to second guess how big 40 x 40 pixels is!!
Configuration
Personally, I find the ability to configure (in depth!) the various features display how much improvements was done to FTouchSL as compared to FTouchFlo.
You can customize the delay time for scrolling, gesture and active corners i.e. how long your finger need to be in contact with the screen for 'scrolling/ gesture/active corners' function to kick in. I prefer 300 milliseconds (ms) for gesture instead of the 500ms, and a shorter 600 or 800ms for active corner, rather than 1000ms. Then again, this is really individual preference. :p
As mentioned earlier, you can also customize how big the 'zone' for gesture and active corners. For users with bigger fingers like me, we may want to increase from 40 pixels to say 50. Oh yes, the zone need not be symmetrical.
Exclusion
Ok, here's the most exciting bit - Exclusion. While FTouchFlo allows you to exclude applications from using FTouchFlo, FTouchSL allows more than that. You can actually customize, for those applications which may not require FTouchSL (thus you want to include them in Exclusion list), which feature to be excluded. Meaning, do you want to exclude everything, or just the scrolling, with gesture and active corners enabled, etc. :D Interesting right!? Wait, there is more!
You can actually choose which gesture and corner to be enabled!! And you can also customize a different set (from the main one) of actions/applications to be activated by gesture/active corners for each and every application!! So, FTouchSL can be set to launch different applications for the Down-Up swipe gesture for Inbox, ereader etc. just an example!
efrost has shared a good one - customize left and right gesture to activate send key 'left' and 'right' in tmail. When you are in your Inbox, you can switch to from SMS to MMS to Outlook, etc by just swiping left and right!
Think the possibilities are only constrained by one's imagination. Do share with us if you find some combinations to be really good!
Some Possible Enhancements
I also notice some possible enhancements (mostly cosmetic and presentation, rather than functionality) which efrost and team can consider.
1) The Setting Panel is a bit too small for my rather big finger. Making it bigger would be nice. My preference goes to something like the Config Panel for S2U2.
2) Also, the inverted triangle for the drop down list panel for customizing actions for gesture and active corner is a bit too close to the right edge for comfort use.
3) More write-up/description for each item in the Setting Panel would be helpful I think, especially for new users.
E.g. Instead of just a word 'Delay', how about a short line saying 'The time you need to press on the screen'.
4) Personally, I would like to see a 'cooler' icon for this product. ;)
So far I have no problem using this application on my Trinity. Doesn't lock up my device nor causing it any problem after using it for days. If you're still hesitant or doubtful about how good this application is, just give it a try and I believe most of us will not regret paying a small sum for such a great improvement FTouchSL does to our experience in using our PPC!

Edit: BTW before any flames start, I thought I would point out that this is not to be taken in a negative view. Just awed on how they are able to maintaine thier life to something with keeping a finacial status a float?? Maybe someone can put these in better words.

Am experiencing the same problem on my trinity. FtouchSL seems to work fine for a couple of scrolls and then it freezes the whole touch screen function.. but from the brief moment i tried it, love the kinetik scrolling and the new FtouchSL config is really user friendly!
anyways, been a big fan of FtouchFLO for a long time now and wanting to upgrade to SL as soon as the bugs are fixed. Thanks for all your effort mate..

Just downloaded the trial on my Athena, and the following problems have surfaced: I would now document each of my steps in using the trial version:
1) Immediately after cab was installed and reported to be successful, the tutorial screen pop up which occupies only the top left corner of the screen. At that moment, I'm unable to close my Resco File Explorer. It is as if the system is half locked up. I only have control back if I exit the tutorial. During the tutorial, wktask is unable to switch to other application or close other application.
2) It kills all the screen taps audio feedback. Would be nice if the screen tap audio feedback can be left alone while this application is being used.
3) When I try to assign an application to the down-up gesture, on the select file dialog, the application appears to be locked up. I had to soft reset at this point.
4) After the soft reset, I re-start FTouchSL Setting. I noted that the radio button at the top has changed from yes to no, which means FtouchSL is no longer enabled. I wonder what changed it ? Anyway, I change it back to Yes, and continue to try to assign an application to the downup gesture
5) After assigning an application to the down up action and say done, I went othe today screen to try it. However, it does not work. The sweeping action touches one of my iLaunch application icon and start that application rather than the one which I assign to the down up action. What am I doing wrong here?
At this point, I decided to uninstall the application until I get more info on how this thing is suppose to work.
6) While removing the application, a dialog pops up saying that FtouchSL has been disabled. Would I like to enable it when I next start up. ????
Anyone can throw some light on what I have done wrong? Thanks a million.

I have the same problem on an ACER n311!
Another problem : Ftouchflo worked with conduits pocket player and now with TouchSL i had to disable scrolling function.
And also : Often when I soft reset my device TouchSL TouchSL don't work but nevertheless when I try to launch FtouchSL.exe it say me that it is already running (note: i have wisbar advance)
I hope these bugs would be corrected

Yes it does work with the audio manager.
Ok here is my initial response..
I saw this thread and ordered the full no questions asked. (didnt even install trial)
After sending in the wrong information to get licensed Efrost was very patient in helping to get this working for me.
Well here goes -
Trial version - highly highly ridiculously unstable found it unusable.
Full version - phenominal the scrolling engine is much more fluid and offers a true flick. Exactly as stable as the old for me have not tested the new features yet though as what I was looking for is much more fluid scrolling.
I would highly recommend this software to everyone as this is a must have.
For those of you who purchased I had some trouble getting the key to work and efrost took substantial time getting this great piece of software working for me so I will post his how to just incase anyone has the same problems. I think mine had to do with the fact I build touchflo into the rom.
Hello!
It is possible that FTouchFlo cooked into ROM giving this problem.
Try to do following:
1. Remove shortcut launching FTouchFlo from the \Windows\Startup folder.
2. Uninstall FTouchSL and agree to delete setting during uninstall. You device will be rebooted.
3. Check that FTouchSL directory doesn't exist anymore.
4. Install FTouchSL 2.2
5. Put userkey.dat into the FTouchSL directory.
6. Mark "Enable FTouchSL" radio button to "Yes"
7. Mark "Enable at startup" radio button to "Yes"
8. Press Done at the bottom left corner.
9. Softreset your device.
10. Open FTouchSL from the Programs
11. Check that "Enable FTouchSL" still set to "Yes".
12. Open About box and you should see there that version is registered.

I can also confirm that the registered version works very well. (Hermes with WM6.1)
Also, it's worth looking into the exclusions part of the configuration as not only can you disable FTouchSL for incompatable programs, but you can make gestures perform different actions based on which program is currently active, which I think could be very useful.

Great to see this develop efrost, was getting worried for a while, not knowing what was happening.:)
I will always remember how quickly you implemented Agenda One support in 1.4 so quickly after my request! Maybe donating helped. ;):D
Well I first installed FTouchSL on device memory, and then storage card, and both times the quick user guide kind of froze up as soon as I tried to select those items in the "practice list". I did have wifi on, so I don't know what was wrong.
Anyway I then quitted the user guide manually since it wouldn't respond. Then, my touchscreen wouldn't work, only my Hermes buttons, and even they were acting funny.
So I soft reset hoping it would work fine. A message came up about the old FTouchFlo, and I remembered I still had the shortcut in the Windows Startup folder. I deleted that but still no FTouchSL working.
Well I thought, since you're so wonderful and all, maybe if I bought a licence key it would work. It took a couple of soft resets and making sure I enabled FTouchSL to get it working, and show as registered. It is now fully working.
As it's still early in development I'm sure you'll fix all the problems in due time. But THANKS so much for a great product and all the best!

I have tried both 2.2 and 2.3 on my HTC TyTn II.
2.2 was extremely buggy and continually locked up device. Couldnt even dial out...lol
2.3 Doesnt lock up device anymore but... Its not consistent at responding and Requires far to much screen pressure in my opinion, really have to poke screen. Also notice it doesnt work when PocketCM is active (ie minimizing).
So have gone back to free version as it works silky smooth for me! Heres my video to prove how well the free version works...

1. why u release such a buggy trail Version? Normal a trail Version should motivate the people to buy your product... how should people not reading this thread know that the registered isn't that buggy?
2. How much Version upgrades does an order include? It seems your software isn't stable @all and I'm pretty disapointed about the feedback written here. So if I buy a copy of your program, so when the order doesn't include a lot of updates, it's not worth 10$.

If you look at the FTouchSL website you will see that a fix for the Trial was released yesterday.
Registered version works very well, definately worth the money!

My bug with PCMKeyboard is on new trial 2.3 so that is why I ask people with registered copy to test it.
> i've a problem in scrolling in programs page, it seems very sticky and hard to move up and down.
Same is on my trial version (2.3)Same here with a registered 2.3 and I am also using PCM Keyboard 0.13.
After a while (minutes, but haven't timed) with the program's page open, the scrolling eventually does kick-in to the expected speed and smoothness.
In AvantGo (latest release), even with FTouchSL disabled for that app, AvangGo's pen and drag scrolling is inconsistent and stutters dramatically for lengthy articles.
For Opera 8.65, with its built in scrolling disabled, it is also rather slow to scroll when using FTouchSL. If I disable FTouchSL for Opera, Opera's built in scrolling remains not nearly as smooth as when only using the previous FTouch.
A preference that I would prefer is for the Screen Rotate plugin (toggle between landscape and portrate) to rotate the screen in the opposite direction for those of us with keyboards that slight out on the right hand side of the device (ala Titan). There are plugins for Rotating left or right, but they continue the rotation upon the next selection rather than toggling between the expected two default orientations.
Other than those issues, all else appears to be fine. The loss of user input and of the device locking up have not re-occurred since I registered my copy last night.
It's a work in progress, but I do appreciate the work! Considering efrost's long contributions to the communitites development I was still glad to purchase my copy of this release.

silly question over here: Is the Full version a completely different cab
or can you register the trial to full version by just entering an activation key

Hi,
In version 2.3 on HTC Athena I'm experiencing very poor scrolling behavior in a portion of the RSS reader Newsbreak.
In Newsbreak, in the list of channels view or within the a single news item view the scrolling behavior is normal, but when I enter a particular channel (which contains a list of news items) and attempt to scroll the list of news items the scrolling is frequently non responsive. Only occasionally does it register the flick and scroll properly. Frequently it either doesn't scroll at all or only scrolls a tiny fraction of the normal scroll. Repeatedly attempts at flicking to initiate the scroll occasionally result in a normal scroll.
The freeware version of FTouchFlo has no such problem.
FYI, this is based on the demo version of 2.3, I just purchased the full version but haven't yet received my registration code.
Anyone else using Newsbreak experiencing the same thing?

Bought 2.2. When it works it works like a charm, but it keeps somehow freezing the touch screen, requiring a soft reset. Sometimes works for a few hours, sometimes a few minutes. No idea why. It is miles more stable than the trial though. Hoping for an update soon for regged users.

2.3 Trial is still very difficult to test, with the nagging screen coming on so often that when it happens, testing seems to fail and at times need SR to get the device to work again.
I'm grateful to efrost for Ftouchflo 1.41 and don't mind to get 2.3 provided testing can be done properly without any nag screens and for at least a week or so. Without proper testing, how can I (and probably others too) know if it works properly on our device?
Hope to get a 2.4 version that can give us proper testing.

Dear efrost,
I bought the full licence for ver. 2.2, but when I tried to upgrade to ver. 2.3, I figured out that there is no opportunity to upgrade my registered copy of FTouchFlo.
After that I posted in the ftouchfl forum, under topic 'FAQ ---> FTouchSL Updates/Upgrades', asking about your update/upgrade policy, due to the fact that the previous question of another member was never been answered.
I waited for a few hours but I didn't see my post showing up, into the forum.
I posted again, asking the same question.....
But my post never showed up, again....
So, I want to ask for a clear answer from your side, because me and other registered users who tried to upgrade to the new version didn't manage to do that (and I assume that for me and fot a lot of other people, 10 euros are a big ammount of money to buy a single version of a product):
- Please inform us about the upgrade/update policy regarding your product.

First I tried to upgrade because of freezing problems I have with ver.2.2.
Secondly, is that something I sould be shame about that I tried to have the most updated version of a program that I paid for that?

OK, i use 2.3 registered for a day now and I have experienced some problems
with the different scrolling behaviour in certain applications like some other
users did before. While scrolling is supersmooth in Today Screen and - after
giving it some time to load the icons - also in Program and settings folder.
But, for example in SKTools I noticed that I have to press like a woodpecker to get
this thing to scroll with FtouchSL. Worked fine with the latest FTouchFlo 1.41.
In Opera scrolling works fine IMO but it is kinda slow. I can't see what efrost
exactly changed in the scrolling routine of FTouch  I hope these
glitches will be fixed in one of the next releases.
To answer the questions of the different cabs for registered and trial version:
Its the same cab for both. You you will get a license file and have to copy it
to your FTSL folder to get it registered.

Hello!
I didn't expect here are 90 posts in this thread already! Sorry that I didn't manage view this thread.
Regarding answers to e-mail and on the forum(s). Please, be patient. I see all your e-mails and what is written on the forum at www.ftouchsl.com (as I said, I didn't expect so many posts here). Even if you have to wait an answer from me a few hours it doesn't mean I ignore you or something. I just have more than 300 e-mails from all of you for last 4 days and it takes some time to process all of them.
Also we're working on solving found problems, so not 100% time we spend answering e-mails.
Regarding found problems: we are working on them. Some already found and fixed some of them not yet, but we're going to solve them even if you don't see any answer.
Regarding upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3: once more I can say that fixed ONLY trial version. It means that fixed part of code which is working only if version is not registered. That's why I stated that registered users don't have to upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3. For sure, if you want, I'll provide you with the new license key... just mail me in this case.
Regarding scrolling:
Issue is following - there are few options how to scroll different windows. First and last options are "very smooth" and "line-by-line".
Good example of very smooth scrolling is in PIE or in Setting and line-by-line scrolling you can see in the list of messages or contacts, for example. Btw, FTouchFlo use only "line-by-line" scrolling and that's why I had so many requests from you guys to make scrolling smoother.
Very smooth scrolling requires good performance from the application we're going to scroll. PocketIE is not so fast comparing, for example, with Settings and Progams is really slow comparing with anything else.
Line-by-line scrolling is not good looking.
Between "very smooth" and "line-by-line" there are few other options and they are working, for example, of you are trying to scroll PIE or Programs very fast.
Optimization of the scrolling is for now finding good compromise for slow programs: it should work fast enough but should be smooth enough.
Already implemented mechanisms: special for different applications, dynamic adaptation to scrolling speed etc. are working but as I can see it is not enough and we are working hard on more comprehensive stuff.
Please, understand and be patient.
And the last thing: I am not filtering posts in the forum. Just FAQ is moderated one and I have to approve each post there manually. I is planned to have clear FAQ instead of lots of duplicated questions there.
Best regards,
efrost

Dear efrost, I'd like to lobby (:)) for you to include an option to disable on the today screen.
Many of us now use the incredible UltimateLauncher, and the sliding thing it employs is slowed down by FTouchSL's timeout.
Is it complicated, or easy to implement?
PS I'll be asking on your official forum just to add weight there (unless it's already been asked 1000 times!)

Edit: whoops I already asked, didn't realise.

Hello!
Does it work now?
Please, doublecheck that you've provided correct DEVICE ID. If not, please, logon into the "Client area" (http://www.ftouchsl.com/?page=client) using your e-mail and device id from the order and change device id there to the correct one. New license key will be sent to you automatically in a few minutes.
Feel free to contact me by e-mail.

Hello!
It is simple to exclude Today completely - just put "Desktop" into exclusions list "by window name". But it will turn off also gestures and I don't think it is exactly what is required.
As a workaround solution I would recommend to disable horizontal gestures and scrolling for "Desktop" window.

Just wanted to update with some feedback. I'm still a happy paying customer, but I'm frequently seeing a couple of undesired behaviors:
1) Sometimes apps launch without the appropriate input action. I see the app set to launch via holding the top left corner and the one set to launch with the down to up gesture triggering without me doing either action (my zones are default) - sometimes it seems the one based on the down to up gesture is triggered by tapping an onscreen soft menu button and then selecting a menu option *without dragging up on the screen*.
2) Frequently the scrolling in PIE is super sluggish, basically unuseable. I'm not sure if this is due to particular page formatting, background processes, or something else.
I really appreciate the work that has gone into making the SL version feature packed and easily configurable, but it's getting a bit frustrating for me to use. I hope a new version resolves these issues (and a few others) fairly soon.

too bad...
I really like this program, it is well written and thoughtful
However, it does not solve the problem I had since the first version of ftouchflo
I'm using a chinese version, and the"full screen handwriting " function is essential
I think the english version has a similar function
However, since the first version of ftouchflo, full screen handwriting was disabled whenever ftouchflo was installed, i think because it interferes with the swiping gesture
However, I would really appreciate it if I could use it in word editing programs, namely notepad and mobile office.
If ftouchSL could work this bug out, I would be the first to purchase a copy

Actually, I have a feature suggestion efrost, as well as one bug to report (I think it's a bug anyway).
Feature request: "squared corner" gestures
I would love a gesture where you make a square with a corner. E.g. for bottom right-hand corner, you'd start sliding from right to left about a third the way down, then slide down to make the square. I'd love to have that gesture to close programs. I have Up-Down set to minimize, and it feels perfect to close program by doing something in the bottom right corner.
It might interfere with the horizontal gestures, but you could make it an extra option in the settings. It's an easy natural gesture to perform.
Bug:
I've set an active corner to the soft-rest function, and when I press it, the touch screen is disabled and I can only confirm the Yes/No message using the d-pad on my Hermes.
Cheers

Just to second Galt's problem. I also get the down-to-up gesture program (Slither's cube launcher) triggering on its own. Galt may be on to something with the idea it could be caused by a soft button press followed by a menu choice as I think I've noticed that too.

"Disable when SIP is active
Setting up this flag you'll turn off FTouchSL completely while SIP panel is active. It is useful for SIPs providing handwriting functionality."
and
"Transcriber is not supported"
seem to be contradictory statements...
Could someone clarify this for me? I really need to be able to use Transcriber or Calligrapher, but would love to have TouchFlo (or rather, TouchSL) for scrolling

I've installed the trial on my Vogue and it seems a bit unresponsive. Wondering if the full version of 2.5 is any better as stated for earlier versions.
I realize that some of the functionality is disabled in the trial but the one command (minimize) that I am trying to execute only works on occation. Miniminze is set for right-left.
I'm a bit hesitant to order the full version if its not going to play nice with my vogue.
Really great work though!

I have the full version on Touch. Right after reset it works very well. I have few programs in exception list (for outlook, calendar, news reader to use scrolls as left/right keys, I have disabled it completely for google maps and live search, etc.), everything works great for some random amount of time (from 10-15 minutes to 1-2 hours), then either touch screen stops working (requires a reset to get it back) or scrolls stop working completely. I do want to use it and have been resetting my phone very often last 3 days :)
Hopefully these problems will fixed soon.

Is this much more of an improvement to the normal Touchflo?
Did not try it yet........Touchflo is active on my ROM.
Any feedback?

Put it this way, what you have in FtouchFlo, you can find it in FTouchSL.. and you have more! There's the 'active corner', the customised gesture for each applications, and exclusion list!

Only for recently used apps. Every time I use an app while running FTouchSL it adds it to the start menu, whether its already there in the recent apps list or not. Sometimes the duplicate entries overwrite the Programs and Settings folders in the start menu. So, I soft reset every day to clear out the mess.
It's a great app, but the start menu issue is driving me nuts.

Hello!
It is simple to exclude Today completely - just put "Desktop" into exclusions list "by window name". But it will turn off also gestures and I don't think it is exactly what is required.
As a workaround solution I would recommend to disable horizontal gestures and scrolling for "Desktop" window.
Best regards,
efrost
I was wondering of this is the solution for me also. I have 5 pages set up in UL. Two pages open programs and the rest have shortcuts on them. Today up and down gestures both open programs as well and one of the pages with shortcuts opens a program. All I really want is to be able to scroll on long screens rather than using the scroll bars. Do I need to exclude all pages or what?

You can customise the action for Desktop only. After including 'Desktop' in the Exception list, add action to LEFT-RIGHT and RIGHT-LEFT as 'No action', and then whatever shortcut you want to launch for DOWN-UP and UP-DOWN.

I'm a clean trial user (no previous versions installed) running on Schap's 4.01 rom, so I don't think it has ftouchflo installed in rom either.
Tried trial version version 2.5 (and I reconfirm it is definitely 2.5). Installed onto storage card default location. [edit: I also tried installing to main memory but still same problems.]
Ran FTouchSL and it went through the intro screens. When it displayed the configuration menu and I enable it and try to configure the Down-Up action as a "Launch application", it crashes with "An Unexpected Error as Occurred!" and closes.
If I re-run FTouchSL, it goes back to the config screen and still doesn't allow me to configure Down-Up.
I read here that people don't have problems with the licensed version, but I'm not about to spend money on an application who's trial version won't run.
Lastly, my Start menu is now full of about 40 Calculator entries, making a mess of my start menu. I see this has been reported already but just wanted to say "me too".
The other apps I have installed are:
Opera 9
SimoSoft Mobile 08 iFonz (but it's not running)
PocketCM Keyboard 0.13.

After the first use of FTouchSL my Start Menu shows a long list of icons but without the normal associated text. Thought this might be because of me using the trial version so I paid my money and registered. My problem has not gone away so am not very happy.

i found a quite handy feature in "PocketIE Plus" - the user could scale the step of scrolling - thereby speeding up of the scrolling. like dY = Scale * userInputToScrollingDelta( mouse_dY )
it is very useful, especially if you need quick navigate along a large text (source code, for example).
any chances that this feature will be implemented in FTouchSL?

Like other users, FTouchSL (trial version) wiped out my Start Menu. What it does is create a long list of icons in the "recently used programs" section of the Start Menu in sets of the same three icons repeated several times, with no text. The icons it chose include at least one program I haven't recently used, so that's odd and interesting.
Actually, the text is there next to each icon but it's white font on a white background. The Programs and Settings icons are still there at the bottom of the list if you scroll down.
I uninstalled SL and installed FTouchFLO (freeware version) and had the same problem. Uninstalling either FTouch, or a soft reset, returns Start Menu to normal.
Didn't like the FTouch program itself very much. Unresponsive and hard to control. Spent some time fiddling with settings and finally gave up. Maybe my fingers are too big, but SL version not yet ready for sale IMHO.
Cool when it works (especially with SCLPC++ Cube) so I'll buy it just for that if you fix the Start Menu problem.

Hi!
I just tried FTouchSL Trial. But why do I have to install .net framework??? ftouchflo didnt need it. I somehow got the feeling, that its just the settings.exe which needs it?!? Is there a way of using this program without having to install framework? (In my opinion .net framework is a huge waste of storage...)

I had similar problems to you. However I think they are related to SCLPC++ as when I configured the SCLPC++ cube fully with the correct links to programs all the issues went away. Initially I hadn't done this as I thought I would just try out 1 or 2 links. FTouchSL and SCLPC++ is a slick combination. :)

Thanks, unfortunately it didn't help. I found a post that said the problem is with the Cube SCLPC++ 5.1 because the "+" symbol causes problems in the recently opened programs list. Appears that FTouchSL is not the problem.

I have a question about how to assign some commands on the cube. I have both FtouchSL and SCLPC++ installed. Most things work just fine, but I can't seem to find the right .exe or link to assign to call history and one to go straight to SMS inbox. Anyone have any recommendations? I've gone in to the program list file that came with it and tried different combinations of code, but I just can't get it.
Also, I can get one of the buttons to open file explorer, but could I possibly get another button like games or settings to open up a folder within file explorer instead of just a link? I've traced file explorer through to the links and I can find folders for games and windows mobile in there, but I just can't make the button on the cube open that folder and show the contents.

It's sad (and a bit of a joke) that so many people have posted issues with this app, yet the author(s) have not replied once in the last 6 and a half weeks. The last post, on the 21st of Feb, said that they're working on a new version.
Based on that, I'd strongly suggest not investing any money in this app, nor bother installing the broken demo. The older, free version works fine so if you want stability and dependability, go with that one, not this one. Perhaps the next version may work better but "buyer beware".
Sorry author(s), but you need to learn to be responsive to your paying or potential customers. You aren't, and you're losing business as a result.

Hi
This is what I got from the developer recently.. Tot' you guys may be interested to know.. :)
Regarding new features, I can share some information:
1. 4 additional gestures and new gesture recognition engine. In case these new engine will be working fine, in the next FTouchSL version we will implement “User gestures” so everyone will be able to configure gesture he wants to use. It would be quite cool, I think.
2. No more limitations about transcriber, handwriting applications and Windows own calibration routine.
3. Visual\sound confirmations about executed\not executed actions.
4. Kinetic Scrolling sensitivity parameter.
5. Backup\restore settings functionality.
6. No necessity to softreset to turn off FTouchSL. For install\uninstall it is still necessary to softreset though.
7. Much improved (redesigned) state-machine (no freezings).
8. Others are bug-fixes and corrections in translations. Hope that we’ve solved all known issues. Now it is working even on XDA Flame (it was my headache from the first FTouchFlo release).

Hi Nadavi
Did you adjust the delay (e.g. from 500 to 300ms)? You need to find the most 'intuitive' timing for yourself. After a while, you will get a hang of it.
For the new version, there's the notification feature to tell you whether you have successfully activate a 'gesture' or 'active corner'. = )

Let me explain myself better.
The FTOUCHSL works great, the scrolling is great,
BUT!
when activated the responsivness of the LCD is very bad (Not Scrolling)
when i try to Click on Start it opens, but then when i try to click on SETTINGS i need to use at least 4-8 presses until it Catches the click on the LCD.
Also tried with 300ms...
Just Posted this BUG in the FTouchSL Support Forum, i hope they will fix it.
Thanks,

Dear friends,
We are very happy to announce that FTouchSL (former FTouchFlo) officially released!
You can find it at the FTouchSL web-site: www.ftouchsl.com (http://www.ftouchsl.com)
There is FTouchSL forum available at the forum.ftouchsl.com (http://forum.ftouchsl.com), so you're all welcome there!
Hello efrost
I have a question or maybe a request...
I tried in a phone i had for a few weeks (trinity) your 1.4. I love the scroll part but i find no need for the cube and launcher parts. It's great program and i congratulate you for that.
But is there a way to install it and configure it just to the scroll part and disable everything else? It would be perfect for me, i just need the scroll...
Or even better, is is possible for you to make a cab only to the scroll? It would be awesome...
Now i have my own trinity and would love to scroll that way!
Sorry but i'll post this also in the old thread to make sure you don't miss it! ;)

i think that's ur latest version...i tried the trial version 2.5 and 2.7. I noticed that 2.7 scrolling IE is slow and laggy than 2.5. Both version are slow to react when i place a gesture on it. i set a gesture to open an app, but sometimes (rarely) does the gesture works. I set the enable ftouchsl at: 50ms and gesutre timeout at 250ms. I enjoy your free version 1.4.1 because the gesture works so well. It would always work...the only reason why I like version 2.5 was because I can pan IE with my fingers. Other than that, it's too much effort. Can you add the kinetic for IE in version 1.4.1? I would love it...i wonder if there is a panning software for IE, that way I can uninstall version 2.5 and use your 1.4.1.

Hi efrost
I've still got the problem where the top 1/4 of the screen acts like I am rapidly tapping the screen instead of holding it. If, for example, I try to click and hold on a folder at the top of the list in CE Commander it actually goes into the next folder, then next, then tries to open the top file. If I try it below the top 1/4 or so it works fine.
Likewise I can't use WK Task properly because holding a click over the X button doesn't work, neither does selecting an application in the WK Task task list at the top of the screen.
This was also the problem in 2.5.
As soon as I disable FtouchSL everything works as normal (except without the lovely FTouchSL scrolling!!!)
I know over at www.ftouchsl.com some other people have had the same problem. Any ideas what could be causing it?

Great program efrost
I am having a problem getting the Left to Right Gesture working after upgrading to 2.7.
Also I am unable to get any of the newer gestures to work.. Up-Right, Down-Left etc...Unless I am doing those gestures incorrectly.
Thought it was just me but I've done a hard reset and redid the configurations but still no go.
Otherwise great program Thanks.

ok, no Problem!
go to Startmenu - search for ftouchsl - launch it!
Now you can see the config! activate ftouchsl so it's started automatically when you reset your phone!
Now look for Gestures: press the one you want and press on top of screen onto the set Action (or something like that, I've got the German one!)
now you search for launch a programm and then you've to search for your sclp++.exe (it should be in /Applicationdata/SCLP++) press OK for 2 Times or so and enjoy!

This is a good problem but it has completely disabled the gestures in Mobile sheel. Can someone help me?
Also when using this in conjunction with S2U2 causes the device to give me a hard time when using S2U2 when trying to unlock it. Has anyone else had ths problem.

You can exclude programs (in the settings) that has its own touchflow like Mobile shell, S2U2, S2v, pointui etc. And your problem is fixed.

You know, you might have more luck posting in the new fTouchSL (2.7) tread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=390558
Please don't bump this old tread, it is confusing when people post in two treads about the same program...

I have searched XDA and posted on the FtouchSl board, but have had no luck. Does anyone know why I can not get my Tilt with the stock ROM to function properly. Scrolling seems to work great, but the gestures only work one out of ten times. The pressure required on the screen is pretty strong. Odd because when I use the HTC stock touch software I can use light gestures for things like ultimate launcher. I do have the stock touch disabled when I try to use Ftouch. Any thoughts, I love the concept and would like to buy the software, but I need it to work.

FTouchSL is not correctly working on Willcom03 aka WS020SH
The UpDown- & LeftRight-Gestures are ok, but it seems the DownUp- & RightLeft-Gestures dont work. Maybe its because my screen is 480x800 ?
The rest is working fine, thanks :)

Hi, the www.ftouchflo.com is no longer registered with DNS. Can anyone tell me where I may find the user's guide, or instruction manual? I know that a lot of it are somewhat intuitive, but, I'd just like to make sure I understand how all of those settings affect the behavior. One comes to mind is, just how exactly does the Exceptions affect the program, etc.
Thanks!

Programs listed in the "Excluded" list are apps that certain functions are disabled in. If you completely exclude an app, then none of the gestures will work until you close/minimize the app.

Dear TheChampJT,
Thanks very much for the reply! See, that's the confusing part. I am using SCLPC++ (one of the HTC cube implementation. see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358102&highlight=instances)
SCLPC++ relies on FTouchSL to invoke the app, and sliding through the sides of the cube. However, the last step in the instruction of setting up SCLPC++ is to exclude SCLPC++ in the FTouchSL setup. I followed the instruction, and it works very well. That leads me to think the "exception exclude" has different meaning than the obvious ones.
I'd hate to purchase FTouchFlo (which I've just did) only to work with the cube. I'd love to use it for scrolling in all other apps as well. When I setup SCLPC++, I directed FTouchFlo to invoke the cube on a "up" gesture slide. So, when I try to scroll up on my phone entries, I ended up invoking SCLPC++ :( Do you have any suggestions?
Many thanks, again!

Hello!
There is no any issue with any screen size. I am using last version on my Touch HD...
I would recommend you to extend launching zone dimensions to 80 pixels. If it'll not help, send me your configuration and I'll check it.

any suggestions?

i actually played around with this application quite a bit. with a significant amount of configuration, i've realize this to be an absolutely essential application, top 5 beyond a doubt. to get all your gestures working, you need to play with the timeouts and with the gesture borders. again, it takes a lot of tweaking, but you will get it... i certainly did.
also, managing the exceptions is important, as there are many apps that you want to use very little or maybe none of this programs features. takes a while to get all that figured out as well.
just want to say, i am very happy to have paid for this application... it really is quite phenomenal.
fantastic work.

i believe touchFL uses owner name instead of device ID. regardless, owner name is start->settings->Owner Information. device ID is start-> settings, then the system tab, click about, then the device ID tab.

Have you tried to put the start menu in the exception list of FTouchSL? Cos' the Start menu has its own scrolling feature, hence the conflict.
I think you can key in 'Start' under 'Add Program name..' Also, you should include 'Manila.exe' and 'Shell32.exe' in the exception list. They are the Sense UI and the default WM interface which comes with its own scrolling technology.
You can however, edit these applications and add gesture. Just disabled the 'scrolling' function.

I have an HTC Touch, which (as some might know) doesn't have a hardware Start key... Does anybody know how I can get the up-slide gesture to open my start menu..?
Unfortunately trying to run the 'startmenu.exe' from the Windows folder doesn't work to open the start menu.. I suspect that it may require an arguement after the exe to show the start menu, but I'm not sure about that.
I'm looking to open my start menu the same way the HTC Cube used to be launched (slide from the bottom up), in my searching I found this, and it seems to be the most promising solution. Can anybody help point me in the right direction here?
