Make sure your battery is over 50%!
Mine did this a couple of times... do a hard reset, then uspl.

Exactly same problem here. Screen goes white, loses activesync connection and never comes back. I do then get the Windows 'Found New Hardwarde' screen, so am thinking this is more to do with the XP setup. Will try at home later!
Using a WM6 02 xda Orbit.

Hi gingerr6 and fleggsy,
I had a similar problem with the USPL program.
My work around was to use one of the USPL'S included in the many rom's posted here on XDA-Developers, so I used the artemis vanilla 2.01 supplied USPL and it works fine.
I have removed only 1 files to cut down on the file size, i.e I removed the artemis_vanilla_2.01_WWE.nbh main file (53.960Mb).
Use this only to USPL your device, it wont flash the vanilla 2.01 rom as the file is removed.
Hope this helps you both.
Just run "STEP 1 - activesync then uspl cid unlocking.bat"
http://rapidshare.com/files/89152338/Artvan2_uspl.zip
NOTES:
1-Make sure you remove your memory and sim card before flashing.
2-Make sure your PDA is fully charged.
3-Make sure that active sync (or windows mobile device centre in Vista) see's your PDA first.

Gadjet / mr.valacky - thanks for your time guys, but I'm afraid I still have to side with gingerr6. The problem is the same on all machines. The screen goes white and the active sync connection gets lost.
Have tried without sim and memory cards on my work PC running Win XP and my home PC running Win XP. Also tried on my Vista laptop but understand that there may be other issues there with Windows Mobile Device Center.
There is only 4mb of space on the phone currently, but would this matter if it's gonna get wiped anyway?
Haven't tried your artemis vanilla 2.01 yet Gadjet, plan to today when I get a few minutes.
Cheers!

In my limited (not fully working) experience James, it stays like your screenshot for approx 5 seconds, and then the whole screen goes white and this is where I lose activesync. It may go blue at this stage apparently (which is also ok) but as long as you have your activesync connection you can then proceed with the flash of the USPL and then the ROM of your choice.

mine went black, and lost active sysn icon but you carry on and flash with rom 9.99 or something will update to 100 VERY quickley.
then it restarts and you will see the SPL has changed to 1.1.000.000 or something, then once in windows active sysn and flash the rom .
mine is working GREAT , all be it only up fot 2 mins :)

Hi gingerr6 and fleggsy.
I have had that happen to me loads, and my only way was to hard reset and try again.
Hold down the 2 top hardware keys and press soft reset button. (Contact & Calender buttons)
Last night it happened while flashing the a new rom.
Hope this helps..

Congratulations gingerr6. I tried just going on but without an activesync connection, it tells me it cannot connect to my phone.

take out memory and sim do hard reset sync and try and use start_uspl.exe
not STEP 1 - active sync then uspl cid unlocking.bat in Artemis vanilla 4.01
thats how i did it :)
don't worry if the sync logo goes white or disappears just carry on the 1 st step to change the SPL after it restarts you will see it on boot up but it will boot into your old ORIGINAL rom.
now run step 2 this will update the rom :)

Wahhhheeyyy!:D
Cancel the cops, finally managed the upgrade this morning!
Still took a few goes, but finally got there.
1. Used Win XP home PC rather than Win XP at work. Removed memory and sim cards. Hard reset prior to each attempt. Screen went white, lost activesync connection with the icon going white and the program saying not connected. Followed gingerr6's advice and continued anyway. First attempt Error 260.
Started again from 1. Second attempt Error 220. Started again from 1.
2. Continued past where previously I was getting errors and it recognised the Orbit even though activesync wasn't very active. I hadn't done anything else different this time to make it work. Although I did make sure I was doing a hard reset for every attempt at the upgrade.
Very pleased now, thanks to everyone for the help. Now back to playing with the new phone! :)
