Back up your phone before downloading and flashing this rom... I do not want anybody to loose their data due to flashing this rom, as the rom will erase all of your data...

How To Flash Rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358615)

HERALD-USPL-beta3

Mirror - by tiksister - rapidshare ("]Download - How-To Flash the HERALD-USPL-beta3:

Download and extract both files.
Place the extracted Open Touch v2.5 Biggy.nbh into the Herald-uspl-beta3/RUU folder.
Move the entire Herald-uspl-beta3 folder to the root of the c:\.
Follow the simple readme file.

Break down of how to flash this rom:

Then follow these steps:

II. How do I flash an NBH file?

a. USPL

Step 1. Download Herald-USPL-Beta3. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=A4N36HLO

Step 2. UnZIP the file into a folder on your Desktop. Let's call it "MyFirstROM" for simplicity's sake. Notice that there is a folder called RUU within this folder now. Keep that in mind.

Step 3. Download your NBH file and unZIP or unRAR it into that RUU folder. Make sure that that NBH file ends up in the RUU folder, not within a folder inside the RUU folder.

Step 4. Place your phone into flightmode.

Step 5. Go back to the MyFirstROM folder and then run USPL.exe

Step 6. Follow the directions on the screen. EXACTLY.

* Your screen on your cell phone will go white around the 75% part of the "second step" now.
* ActiveSync will LOOSE its connection.

Step 7. One step 3 on that black window, the RUU flasher will pop up. Just follow the steps.

That's it. :-) Welcome to the flasher's world.

Instructions by Ivanmmj

===================================

If your device is already HARD-SPL read the following link before flashing.

HARD-SPL (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358225)

Click on the contacts button at the lower right hand side of the screen.

Repeat the following steps again, and the random acess bar on the right handside will go away and scrolling will work again.

Click on the Menu button
Click on Options
Uncheck "Show alphabetical index
Click on the ok button to exit

If you want to enable random access, just go back and uncheck the "Show alphabetical index"

======================

How to turn off QuickMenu

Choose yes and it will not startup again even after a reboot.

Things to do after flashing your device:

Go to \Start\Settings\Connections\Connections

Once completed save and exit

Go to \Start\Programs\TouchFlo

Click on Touchsettings

This part has already been filled out for you, just click on the save button to exit.

This step is needed so please perform it...

Create a rom that will offer the following to end users.

Faster

Any body can build a rom faster than the stock one, but will it be more stable?

Looks slick

A phone that will have an interface your proud to show off to your family and friends.

Storage

Extra storage space in case you were not able to buy a sd card.

Easy to use

Comes with apps already install so people do not have to waste too much time downloading extra apps and etc.

Stable

A rom that you will not have to soft reset daily. Fixing common issues found with the original rom.

Fun

A rom with extra games so when your stuck some where and there is nothing to do, you can always play games.

1. The biggy version is comming in about 30 min or so.

2. If you run into issues, please try not to double post.
If you don't hear back just PM me directly.

3. Please only post issues with this release in this thread.

Do not double post...! I'm very busy working different project but will figure out a fix if your having issues.

4. If you don't like my rom for some reason, please post it here only and state why you don't like about it.
This will provide feed back for me to use in future releases.

5. I'm not responsible for you bricking your device.

6. Do not call my rom a pretty rom...!

7. My roms do not include the rgu files so you will not be able to recook them. 02/11/2008

You can use the same USPL.

whats sms threading?

Think of it as a "threaded chat" between you and someone through SMS. It would look like an IM window, instead of having to open up each sms as its own message.

Anyone know if this version will make wifi "more compatible" with certain routers? I've got a dlink 614+ at home and it'll only connect once per router-reboot. Anything after that, I get Connecting->Unavailable->Available. Connects fine at work and friend's house.

USPL doesn't work for me though. I get image is corrupted error at 3%. Had to HardSPL. Thanks for the release! Just got my wing last week. LOVE Open touch. Reflashed my bro and friend's wings to open touch too! Cant wait to reflash this one.

Edit:
Running Open touch 2.7 biggy now.

Yeah, is that a problem? I can change it to WPA. I reflashed back to stock and still had the same problem. Its really wierd because the WRT54G at work connects fine and my friend's ATT U-verse is fine too. I read that it may be an incompatibility with wm6 and certain "speedbooster" technologies. I was hoping wm6.1 may have addressed it.

You can download MS Office 2007 here :
http://rapidshare.com/files/36100054/MS_Office_2007.rar

extract rar and install file .cab

Found this by a simple search.
Thats 1 of 2 for me. Do you have a download link for the cube? Thanks!

I dont mean to be rude but this info is in the stickied thread labeled IMPORTANT.

Hide SIM Contacts:
Registry: HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone
Key: ShowSim (dWord)
Default: 1 (show)
New Value: 0 (hide)

Just make sure the value is set to 1 "show"

Thank for pointing out for a newbie like me. But how do you get into the registry? Can you just point me to where I can find the instruction for it? Cuz I've been searching for the last hour and can't find it.

Thanks!

You need to use a reg editing program. PHM Reg Edit or total commander. I use total commander so if you want to use that you will need to search for a cab. links to cabs can be found in that same thread labeled IMPORTANT on the main herald mobile 6 page.

ttran cooked in phm so you already have that if your using open touch 3.0

I just flash Open Touch v.3 slimline and it doesn't have total commander in it.

It probably is deleted even though you got that message. You could always do a search for it to see if it's still around. Most likely it is deleted as long as it is not zipped.

Man, This is very addictive now! I flashed my phone four times today with various ROM but finally must come back to the best one: "Open Touch 3.0 Slim". Ttran: I am missing the Touch Dual Dialer from Biggy 2.7. Can you post the cab file for it?

I got the rom fully working smoothly with no issues, i noticed all the nice little improvement, but where is the SMS Threader builtinto Windows Mobile 6.1?

If you didnt add it to the build, could make a cab or something its pretty much only reason i went from 2.7? Or do i have it already? i tried testing it, i never saw any options?

Hi ttran..

I flashed my wing with the 3.0 biggy. everything works fine except the active sync. I do not know what the problem is. I am unable to use the active sync over GPRS. I used the 2.7 biggy and active sync used to work flawlessly.
I used to sync all my contacts, email and task over the GPRS connection to the company exchange server. I have not tried using the activesync using USB.

I get an error 0x8503001C. Any idea?

Has the active sync be upgraded in WM6.1?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

ttran, downloaded this Slimline 3.0 ROM about 5 minutes after you uploaded it. I got all my apps installed. So far everything is working, MMS, Internet, WiFi all of it. Only have one bug. I have to use Intellisync for work, and when I enter my security code to open instead of going straight to the homescreen, it gives me the Windows 6.1 bootscreen.
I did do the quick page pool to get it at 6mb, and with apps installed I have 29 storage and 24 program. So am very happy right now.
THANKS SO MUCH!!! And I LOVE the Threaded SMS, that is the only thing I miss from my old Palm days!! Thanks!

Also curious about the Alarm function not repeating the buzzer sound, is this fixed?

How can I store SMS on my storage card?

Its so that you can point to where the pictures are saved on your device or sd card. Not everyone puts them in the same place.

Oh, well, that's cool. But is there a way to make it not do it every time I open it? It's kind of annoying.

Touchflo

Go to \Start\Programs\TouchFlo

Click on the TFSettings

Choose your view mode from the drop down menu and if you want sound while scrolling then check the Enable sound, if not don't worry about it.

Click ok to save, do not reset your device.

Go to \Start\Programs\TouchFlo

Click on Touchsettings

This part has already been filled out for you, just click on the save button to exit.

This step is needed so please perform it...

Now your ready to reset your device.

is this supposed to enable the cube?

Is there any way to hide the MMS "account" in messaging. I don't use it at all and it's annoying me a bit. Also, I've noticed that on the HTC Home, when tapping either the e-mail notification or sms notification, it does not necessarily go to proper destination (tap e-mail get sms and vice versa).

Apart from these issues the ROM is blazing fast and just about perfect!

Thanks ttran!

lol...i guess you decided to force the radio rom update on this version. :p radio takes a little longer to recognize signal on bootup...but oh wells...i'll test it out where it counts (work/home).

the txt threading is an interesting change...takes a little bit of time to configure (if you're working from a pimbackup).

why are there 2 task managers?

roms works great so far...only thing i noticed (which someone else has commented about) is that it takes a little playing with the options of batterystatus to get it to overclock properly. first boot always feels like the phone is lagging...much worse than 201...

great job on the rom

i figured out how to get activesync working, you cant have it running in the task menu on the phone when you plug it in. If you kill the task then launch active sync or windows mobile device center it works.

Got my Herald last week and tried all the current batch of roms and funny enough the one i stuck with for 3 WHOLE days was Open Touch 2.7 SlimLine. Amazing ROM, speed, stability, program choice. Worked great for me.
....until yesterday when i couldnt boot a rom completely at all. None of them. Flashed them all, again. So I said to he** with it, and flashed this gem, brilliant! I can officially say I love this rom. It's fast, has everything I need, hasn't given me one error yet, and I may be mistaken, but it seems to sync faster with my Exchange server. This is great! I even love the new theme image on the today screen. Good job brotha!

P.S. ActiveSync does work great, but maybe its because I have AS set for guest mode only.

The last time I tried to add a beta app (LGMenu), that pretty much took up a lot of my time trying to find fixes for it. Not going down that route again...

Awsome ROM, the only thing I have found and I think it's been missing for a few builds is when you click on the new mail icon on the HTC home screen, it just takes you to messaging instead of the email you have setup.

Not a huge issue, but thought I would bring it up for a revisting.

Yes,

Read the FAQ section on the first page, it will show you how to enable the cube.

Speedbooster isn't a standard so I doubt Microsoft would support it. Every manufacturer handles their "speedboosting" differently.

I did the settings in the faq
Its set to TF 4.1 Default
And the other menu i went in and just hit save like it says
Then did the soft reset
But still i cant get the cube to come up
The HTC album works like a charm
I can scroll contacts with a finger
But the cube just wont come up
I tap at the bottom of the screen and drag up : NOTHIN
Top at top and drag down: NOTHING

Damn ttran, you're the man!!

For those of you who can't download through megaupload, I've found a solution. go to www.megafast.info and put the id of the download into the box, click Generate Premium Link > Continue to Download > Download

The download speed will be pretty slow, but at least you're downloading. I've tried like 4 different computers on 3 different networks and couldn't get megaupload to work for the life of me, but this has worked every time. :D

After flashing with the 3.0 biggy, I am unable to boot, it is stuck at the first startup screen. I tried it twice, I mean I reflashed it with the Tmobile RRU and then reflashed with 3.0 biggy. What could be the problem?

Gotta say this is the best...the threaded sms makes it ALL worth it for me.

It does seem to have some issues with the Calendar...I gotta look at outlook but it changed some of my calendar entries and won't show the right times..it's like a hour ahead or something have to fully test everything out when I get home.

No issues with Comm manager or mms like others are reporting...the only thing that I get is sometimes the reply field for the sms gets shrunk but I open the on screen keyboard and it shifts everything back up

Batterystatus working fine for me - overclocked to 260. MMS is working, however, even after making the registry changes, I still cannot receive full size pics. Sending a test MMS to myself, the sent items folder shows the pic is 114K, but the inbox shows a size of 14K. Anyone been able to get the fullsized MMS to work? Someone who used the WPSHeader cab perhaps?

Love the ROM BTW. I like it as slim as possible so that I can add my own cabs. I could have done without HTC Home for even more storage ROM, but what you've got in there is plenty fine. Thanks!

You can change commanager buttons to anything you like with romsettings if your using the biggy version.

/Start/Programs/Accessiors/Romsettings

For example if you install pocketcm and random access is already there, you can also select the default Contacts with this program as well.

The time that it took the windows folder to load in file explorer is actually the first time I noticed a significant increase in speed, too. It's definitely there. The last few versions of open touch were only a little bit slower, though. Compared to a stock t-mobile ROM, it's blazing fast. I guess it doesn't set the bar really high though...

Edit: speaking of speed... does IE feel slower to anyone else? Or am I just too used to using opera mini now...?

howdy... Long time lurker/first time poster.

I've been using opentouch for a couple of releases and do have to say that I do like the rom. The only two questios i have though, one has been answered (windows live, due to preferring the implementation of messenger vs programs like palringo) but still have one other.

Is there any way to get a build or a cab with the MyFaves software? Where I work I actually have to have it enabled for demonstrator purposes and so myself and my coworkers do need a way to use the MyFaves application. Though I'll still be sticking with 3.0 once I am able to reflash for the Windows Live software.

There is a biggy version with windows live already included.

As for the myfavs most people do not want this app included. Give me some time and I will make a special custom rom just for you and others that have to have myfavs, but remember I will have to remove something else in place of it. Most likely I will remove the windows live and add the myfavs.

Having a problem with psShutXP, when I use this program it creates another icon in the programs folder, Display Switch. This locks up my device the next time i enter the programs folder as it tries to read that icon and requires a soft reset to unfreeze my device. I found this bit of info on the psShutXP site:

No shotcuts
If you rename program to psShutXP_nosc.exe the shotcuts in Program folder will not be created (may be useful for someone).

Other than that I received my new T-Mo Wing this morning and loaded this rom immediately. Working brilliantly, thanx again!

Hey ttran - great rom - thanks a bunch. Was wondering though - I know you are making a slimline version with a cube. I have already installed your cubeless slimline and wondering if you could provide a cab as well? Takes me around 3 - 4 hours to install all my apps on your roms. Flashing the cubeless slimline into a cube version would require me to reinstall all my other applications as well.

I notice that some people are having issues getting the newer build of biggy without windows live to flash and some are also having issues with mms.

It's really strange to me since some folks say that MMS works but then some say it's not and also the same for the rom?

Just to cover all basis, you ran the network wizard, then you selected your connection setting according to your provider.

Example:

Your on the data plan so you selected T-Mobile data option via the connection settings?

Also,

i think i found my problem, it seems to be a message that isn't dl properly to my phone. i went to start/messaging/menu/options/mms/ and unchecked 'retrieve messages immediately' to see if this solves my issue

5 min later: problem solved (maybe this can work for others)

Thanks for the update,

I will try and figureout how to enable this via reg hacks for the next release.

Ttran do you have the Oxios and Notes cabs?

I got the latest version of PIM backup already.

edit:

OK, I found Oxios through here:

http://www.oxios.com/memory/

Hi,

I'm glad you were able to find your missing cab files.

I don't have cabs files since I only use oem packages to build the roms.

thanks ttran for awesome work !! I have a request. Can you please link to the individual applications too in your first post. That way it would make it easy for people who install slim version to pick and choose the apps they want to install.

Just got done flashing the 3.0 Biggy with im & live, it's very nice!

Definitely digging the new, uncluttered wallpaper =)

So my only questions is; how do people live with the stock ROM????

:D:D

That would be a lot of work for him to do. Personally, I'd rather have him work on other things like making better roms. There is this little thing called "search" that you can use to find what you're looking for. Also, if you read the thread labeled IMPORTANT on the main page of Herald Mobile 6, there are links to most of the cab files that you may be looking for. Google is a great place to find the rest.

Folks,

The lite version is being uploaded rite now and should be done in about five mins or so.

Please check the first post in five mins...

Just in case your wondering why the name is ZCink, it's because he asked for a custom rom so thus the name.

The next rom up will be for Simplicity05...I did not forget about you bro...

TTran, did you also just update the slimline without cube version too? Because I see this on the 1st page

4MB Pagepool...
Memory:
48MB+ Storage and 29MB+ Programs

Seriously! I was about to do the same before I found XDA and ttran's ROMs, my wing could not even perform basic functions with the buggy stock ROM....now it's schooling my friends with iphones!

This is a great ROM, the more I play with the functions the better it gets! My wife had a tear of joy in her eye when I busted out ms pacman for her to play with while we waited at the dentist!

BIG UPS!!!!!

That's not the slimline version, it's the new ZCink AKA Lite version.

This version is only for folks that want to install most of their add-on apps via sd card.

If your not in that group, please do not download this version...

Well first off there are no stupid questions,

To me the word slim means smaller than the biggy, it still contains a lot of apps from the biggy.

But the lite is pretty much stripped down and there is not much included..

Also, it contains mainly apps requested by ZCink and I had to come up with another name to help make things easier for folks.

It's pretty much like the slimline with the htc cube, with some apps he likes prebuilt into his rom.

He asked me awhile back and I did not have the time to do it for him.

Your best bet would be either the slimline or the lite.

Yeah i dont use the cube so i'll get Lite :D

Edit: Meh i just realized i get 28.3 Program Memory with SlimLine anyways and Lite is 4MB PP so i guess i'll stay with Slimline, dont feel like installing all my apps again plus i dont rly mind the couple extra apps in SL

Great rom ttran ;) keep it up

Just some info about the Comm Manager popups:

I'd like to thank ttran for all the awesome roms so far, they've been the best for my Wing and i'm always happy to use them, so i'd just like to see if I can't help out fixing some little issues.

I'm having the comm manager popup issues like i'm sure everyone else is, so I decided to fool around with it a little to figure out what might be causing it. While I haven't figured that out, I've tried a few things i'd like to post here:

First, I tried disabling the Comm Manager button in the Buttons control panel, thinking the keyboard might somehow be activating it. Didn't have any effect, so I don't think that's the issue.

Second, I started playing with the sliding, because it appears that's where the issue is stemming from; it usually happens after the phone is slid or a program is being closed. I played around with a few scenarios, and i've come up with some interesting findings:

I'm able to get it to reliably happen after a slide.

The Comm Manager popup can be replicated by doing the following:

1. Ensure HTC Task Manager Quick Menu is enabled and showing.
2. Close all programs
3. Slide phone open. Wait for the today items to rearrange and settle, and HTC Home to expand to fill the screen.
4. In quick succession, close the phone, then approx. 1 second later, tap in the upper right corner of the screen (Where the Quick Menu/Close Button usually is)

You will see Task Manager Quick Menu popup, followed by Comm Manager behind it.

This occurs with both landscape and portrait modes; i.e. the same can be accomplished by sliding the phone open and tapping the upper right in landscape mode approx. 1 second after opening the phone.
I've found that if I disable the Task Manager Quick Menu, the Comm Manager popup doesn't occur with this method.

Upon further testing, I've found that PocketCM is able to cause the problem in general while it's open. Simply open PocketCM, and while it's open, slide the phone. Use PocketCM's Minimize or Close function, or tap ONCE in the upper right corner, and you will see Comm Manager has opened behind it.

I've tried disabling the Today items, but that has no effect.

So to summarize, the issue happens when an application is open, and the corner of the screen is tapped after a slide. I'm not sure where to go from here, I suppose the next thing i'd try to find out is what process is opening Comm Manager or where it's getting that from, but I'm not very knowledgeable at the depths of the system here, so i'll just provide this info in the hopes that someone might be able to make some use of it.

Keep up the great work ttran!

Once again another outstanding ROM, Im not a huge fan of the cube but i do like the scroll and HTC Home. Open Touch v3.0 ZCink is exactly what the doctor ordered. I'm running this on my second T-Mo wing (aka Herald) and I can see having both side by side a slight speed increase also. Great job again! The "Open Touch" series rocks.

One last thought: Can we ditch the green 6.1 screen in future releases? I like my device dull and colorless :)
