:( Well today evening after i came from the job, i just wonder to check for some new software here around to install on my phone and when i took him out of the covering, some rubber ring jump out and when i pick it up that thing i saw my phone looking like this.
I hope to get some support from the nice people of O2 Germany, actually i'm pretty sad with the production and quality of this phone.

Just bad luck mate. Thanks for the warning, stuff like that usually happens when you pull out the phone from a tight pocket.

Seems like something that can be easily fixed with a bit of glue. Depends how well it fits in again ofcourse.
Still, for a device with this price you would expect it stays on the device and not fall off. But probably just bad luck, these things happen.

No mate, i didn't put it on my pocket, i only think that the display will be influenced to a kind of pressure like that, but never a rubber band, do you know what i mean..?
I take care of it very well

I would not talk at all about glue to fix it! I would just give it back and demand a new one! As you have already told... we are talking about a lot of money here!

And what do you think is the first thing they are going to do to 'fix' it? I guess it depends on the way it was attached to the device to begin with, but it doesn't look all that impressive.

HI,
I have lost my Rubber band. And I don`t know where I can get a new one.
I'm sending my phone back to O2 Reparaturservice in Germany, let's see what they can do to stick the band.
HTC did a very crappy work with the Orbit 2, I think O2 should take all the phones back and return them to HTC.

Hey guys,
for those who did not already lose their rubber band. I would suggest to detach it and re-glue it using superglue. This worked for me and I am VERY sure that no one will be able to detach this any more... :-)
So prevention is better than loosing the thing and I am pretty sure that O2 will not fix that in the O2 Shop, so you have to return the device for repair and that will end up in being without the orbit2 for many days.
For me this was no choice...

since i'm in the US and without a local retailer or repair center, i followed avoigt's advice and gently removed the rubber ring and resealed with super glue. can you tell the difference?

Same here, guys! :)
But only half of my ring got detached while I was trying to pull the device out of the leather Noreve case. I've bought it but I wish I hadn't. I will never use it. Pity.
I didn't even try to re-glue the ring. It did it itself :) But I will sure do it with some super glue as recommended here!

unfortunately I didn't see avoigt's advice until after the event. I wonder how o2 will respond when I call then. I don't think its a good idea for me send off the handset for a number of weeks, and although I have taken out phone insurance with them, insurance is not for inferior build quality. I may go down the route of purchasing another handset from o2, taking the ring and then returning the handset for a refund.

Hi there!
I got the same Problem. Pulling it out of the Pocket which was delivered with the device was enough for this "Construction". I whant the Original plastic Jog-Dial... :)
Well i returned my device, got another broken one and today i expect the third "new Orbit2"... (keep your fingers crossed...)

take it back. take it baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack. take it baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaccccccccccccckk. DONT' ever think abt gluing the pieces together. i said DONTTT....u will only ruin it more or make it ugly incase u cant get back a new piece from them.
haunt from the past: i only thought these things happened in NOKIA mobile phones only.
1. famous N-Gage QD has a rubber strip around the side. after 3-4 months of use, the rubber band expanded, due to frequent use of insert/remove game card and on top, headphone/charger and came loose leaving an ugly side view
2. famous Nokia 6630, after abt the same period of time, the plastic band that revolved around the camera lens got all loose and yucky too.
3. reminds me not to buy any nokia phones which has those stuffs....but and XDA? oh shit!!!!!!!!!
NOTE: i know i know. this might not be relevant to here. but it shows how careless some companies are when delivering products for the end users!!!!

Ayyu3m, I see what you're saying, but HTC will repair the phone using the same double sided sticky tape that was used in the factory, and the cause of this problem. I'd be nervous with trying to apply superglue to the device, but as cortezzi showed in his earlier post with pic, it can be done. I may opt for a silicone rather than a glue as this can be easily removed if I mess it up. But first I need to get hold of another ring.
I had the first Windows smartphone (Orange SPV) follwed by the Typhoon, then Prophet, and then the Hermes, all very well built. This is my first HTC phone with suspect build quality. I've had two replaced within the first week because the reflective bezel wasn't stuck down properly around the front camera area.

hi,
i'm on O2 UK, my first Orbit 2 the screen was on the piss (at a jaunty angle to the casing) + the jog dial was off centre and the left main button was off to the left. sent it back. now the one i got now, the display is off the left! but, everthing else is ok. i really dont want to play russian roulette again, so am looking for a tweak or hardware menu to shift it to the right :S else i will have to get O2 to repair it!!
i had a stellar before this from O2 as well, the case didnt line up properly when shut. just tiresome quality, makes me just wanna stick with my Sony W810i, which has never ever given me any concerns whatsoever :S
ah well, i'll see how long i can put up with this for....
good luk!

I have the same problem with the jog dial, lost it somewhere along the line and it's really frustrating...
I just got off the phone to O2... They told me they cannot source the part so no replacement rubber rings...........
The only option is a replacement handset which they said was a good will gesture, as the part was lost it is not covered by the manufacturers warranty which is really taking the P*$$...
To hear that is really frustrating, turning it round as if they are doing me a favour by replacing my faulty handset!!! What a Joke. She did however say it would be covered by insurance (if I had it) as the part was lost, I think this woman may have been talking out of her A-hole somehow.
O2 are generally second to none when it comes to customer service, I got an absolutely amazing deal on the phone so I feel a little bad sending it back for something as small as a rubber band... I have offered to stick the band on myself...... :( Ah well, when I get it I think I'll be detaching it and supergluing it back on myself!
Did have an idea though... Before I send it off I might pop into an O2 store and see if I can steal the ring off the demo phone... :)

I emailed O2 customer services yesterday explaining the rubber band has gone missing and looks to have been stuck on with double-sided sticky tape, and that the method of assembly was inadequate in this respect. I also pointed out that other owners are having the same problem. Although I asked them for a rubber band to be posted to me so I can glue it on, rather than for them to repair my phone, I got an email today advising that they are sending me a brand-new replacement by courier tomorrow. Not bad service, I thought....but then I remembered that I had to have the Orbit 2 replaced 3 times in the first week due to cosmetic issues, and I really don't want to go through that again :D

I just lost my ring too. I have a problem with my right hand, so I use the wheel and button more than the stylus. I know that I should probably send it back to O2 but I has taken me months to get this phone just how I like it (I am not very good at these things, and some of the setup was done by someone else who is now not available). It is one black mark against a phone I am very impressed with.
I can't find the ring anywhere and don't want the pain of setting up a replacement handset. If anyone still has their ring, and is going for a replacement handset, would you be willing to sell me the original rubber ring? It would really help me out.

I got a brand-new replacement phone from O2 a few weeks ago due to loosing the ring, and today thought I'd better check how the infamous rubber ring is. I ran my finger nail around the edge and it lifted up without any effort.
I can't believe HTC would use double-sided sicky tape on the thing!
Anyway, what's the best way to stick this back down with?

Getting an Atom V fropm O2, really hope nothing like this happens on mine. I sell the TC and haven't see any come back, so I don't think should be a major issue.

I don't think the issue affects the TC, the Orbit 2 wheel is different to that of the TC.
I've stuck it back on using some silicone-type jointing compound, I had in my bucket of plumbing bits n bobs :D

I saw on another forum a possible DIY fix involving buying some o-rings, like this:
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_25 6923_langId_-1_categoryId_114188
You stretch it over a thick pen (or something long, fat and cylindrical) and then use a stanley knife to cut it in half, producing two replacement rubber rings. I'm gonna try it.

Massive pain... I must admit.... Somebody sneakily in here said he may just go and have a look at the build quaility and how difficult the little ring is to remove, off of a new display model in an O2 shop.... Ahem....

Glad to own a TC ! :D
Now to answer all the "which glue do i use" questions, i would say that superglue is definitely not rubber-friendly ! The rubber will age faster when coated with superglue (has to do with the solvent) which leads to shrinking and/or cracking.
Use neoprene glue for rubber longevity, or epoxy double-component glue for utter toughness. Admittedly, these gooey glues will make the gluing job much more difficult than if you were using fluid superglue.
Hell, you could even fill the groove with tinted epoxy resin and throw away that rubber band (skillz needed there). :D

hi
i have cruse and never even thought about this issue until l i discover this now i think it has nothing to do with luck on closer inspection it is glued on by flexible glue and for good reason when rubber heats up it expands lot more then mettle its stuck on so they used flexible glue
using super glue might not be very good idea in theory outer rubber might expand and start causing break because bottom (glued part) might not expand
but i think cause of this problem is matters expanding in different rate and nothing to stop that ring from just coming out
all in all sounds like design fault to me more than luck or quality

mine fell of twice now, first time lightly superglued, half fell off, now super superglued - doing ok. In my opinion, this is definitely a design fault.

Well... mine has also suffered this fate after 2-3months of ownership...
o2 are getting sick of me phoning with all the problems this paperweight is having... about time it's replaced I think!
If it happens again I'm going to request a Stellar as alterative replacement.
Thoughts on the Stellar?

Yes, me too .. mine came off a couple of times and I pushed it back on but it didn't stay put and now I have lost it somewhere.
I have tried the O-ring route but have not been able to successfully split one in two halves with a stanley knife, I found it quite fiddly, so I am now looking for a replacement. If anyone knows where to get one that would be great.
I am not prepared to send the phone back after reading all your stories because my phone, apart from this, has been absolutely fine since the day I got it several months back and I don't want to take pot luck and get a replacement which turns out to be temperamental.

O2 are sending me a new Orbit2 out. Seems a bit drastic just for a rubber ring thats fell off but fair play to them.
I wonder how many devices they have already replaced and how much money they have lost just becasue these bits of rubber keep falling off!!!
I guess there's no gurantee the same thing isn't going to happen to the next one either :)

a courier swap is what they are doing, I remember they did the same for my orginal Orbit when it had a dead pixel - I got a brand new device then as well. Both within 28 days of the contract like which I think makes a difference. They came today but I was out at work :( not to worry.
-----
Just an update - new phone arrived yesterday, all sorted - quite happy with O2's/HTC's service they were fine last time around with the original Orbit as well.
