WM6 boots 2x faster than latest official cingular rom!

New v5c have made a week before with not working GPRS, but with working Settings' applets

Changes after v5b:
1) Office 6.1 added
2) its possible that storage increased
3) russian language added, select in settings
4) working Green and Home buttons
5) its possible that Jbed 3D Java added
6) Answer Mode and External Screen settings added
7) ArcSoft MMS added
8) HTC Home added

Known issues:
1) GPRS doesnt work

How to flash:
1) make an application unlock
2) copy content of SSPL to root of your device
3) run SPL.lnk
4) run ROM Update Utility.exe on your PC
5) follow the instructions
6) wait until flash process will be completed
You can flash it over ANY (Qtek, Dopod or Cingular) rom!

I dont have a HTC StarTrek

If you wanna to use this rom or part of it (i.e. XIP, etc) for the base of your future roms, please keep/add author's names in About menu! Thanks.

I found a bug. Please confirm if this happens generally.
The StartUp content doesn't load at system boot. This means that any program' s shortcut is in startup folder doesn't run automatic when wm6 start.
Maybe this can be fixed with a registry setting, but I don't know how. I tried with HKLM\System\Explorer\Shell Folders and I saw that every folder definition was 2 times and if I delete the one of them, both desappear. I made the startup definition again but no luck. Any help or suggestions?

Yes, its application unlock. Use SDA Application Unlocker for this purpose. If youre using latest european Qtek rom, you doesnt need it.

It might be a registery entry - I vaguely recall there being a registry entry for the Hermes as to whether the startup folder was launched or not - maybe try searching for more information on that?

I tried but I cannot find something related to this problem. Just the registry entry in HKLM\system\explorer\shell folders for StartUp, that seems to be okay and pointes to this folder in windows directory, which exists with this name and contains some shortcuts.

This doesn't happen to any other device?

There is not an entry in the settings menu to control the external screen in this rom. But I found that these registry settings can control the external screen's behaviour. Must create them in HKLM\Software\HTC\SecondaryDsp

A really great rom, very cool... But i've found another issue. Where is the key lock??? In the original rom a menu appears when holding down the home key for a few seconds. The key lock is at 3rd position in list.
Another way to enable the key lock is by closing the device. In original rom you can enable the timeout in external screen configuration. Can someone add this to this rom???

And, is there a complete translation in german for Wm6 rom ???
Not the ones from Wm6 alpha or beta...

You can only flash after you take out the micro-sd-card

Is there any way to deactivate the side button that opens the CommManager application? I tried to find some registry entry but I didn't found anything. I tried to use AEBPlus to change the application but everytime the CommManager loads.

I've treid the "App Button" but with no response. Then i've tried the "Actions Button" but since them the "OK button" does not work... The only way to bypass this is to uninstall "AE Button".
The last thing i've tried is "add new button" but when i press the "home button" i'll get back to home screen...

GPRS works fine opn my Qtek8500. The only thing i have to do is to setup the connections in connection settings an activate the right connection in PIE:

-open PIE
-klick on right softkey "Menu" -> "Extras" -> "Options"
-then select "Connections"
-select the right connection

Then GPRS should work...

But any Ideas about MMS???

not sure about the boot problem...hard reset should help but You will have to configure Your device and install software again.

Does GPRS really work for You? I tried all the PIE and Connections settings to no avail. Any possibility You actually browse via ActiveSync instead of via GPRS?

gprs worked fine on my qtek 8500 after installing WM6 for a day and then stopped working w\o any reason :( many other testers said that they couldn`t make it work at all

Reinstalled the ROM because of an incorrect registry setting the phone doesn't start anymore. Now GPRS don't work anymore... But thats no problem for me because currently i don't need it. Here in germany GPRS is a little expensive...

Yep, lack of GPRS is the biggest problem with this ROM for me. Everything else that I need works great. If we can't get GPRS working I will have to go back to the stock ROM soon.

Can I ask a dumb question? Apart from it actually being WM6 (which is great that someone has doen the work to port it) what practical benefit does it provide over WM5?

I'm not able to apply the fix2. Every time when I try to replace the file "rootgsm.cpl.xml" in the Windows dir, I get an error-message that I have not sufficient rights to perform that.
I also tried to delete the old rootgsm.cpl.xml file with resco explorer, but I got quite the same error :(

i tried out the .7z and the .rar archive but it was the same. I have a Win XP on my PC, the “HTC Cingular® 3125/3100 ROM (AKU 3.4.2) – 4.1.502.5” on my StrTrk and i run the SPL.lnk.

When you run the spl.lnk the device goes in bootloader mode?
I had this erron once, when I didn't put the files in root directory but all the folder spl. So the spl didn't load and I got this error.

gprs works fine here, just the other day i got to send mms. use arcsoft mms composer, after install, right soft key new sms, then scroll down, mms is there.

i think the gprs is hardware dependent as i am flashing this rom on a dopod S300

The files are in the root directory, but my device won't go to bootloader mode when I run the SPL.lnk. (I didn't even know it has to ^^)
what could be the problem when my device doesn't got to bootloader mode ?

the problem with some of you are, the spl.lnk in the spl folder downloaded was made for specific cingular rom, basicall you don't have to copy the link to your root,

1. just copy jumpspl and spl.nb.

2. next open notepad and open the .lnk supplied in the SPL folder, you'll see something like this

< #49;"JumpSpl.exe" 1x00000000 SPL.XX >

3. copy the 1x0XXXXXXXXXX SPL.XX line

4. next, using any file manager, make a shortcut for jumpSPL and paste the shortcut into your root. copy this .lnk to your desktop and drag it into an open notepad.

5. the line you have copied in step 2 above should be pasted in this new lnk.

6. save the file. cut it and paste into your root. the shortcut should work now and get your phone to go into bootloader mode.

sorry for this crappy instruction i am using a nonsecure line and i have no time to compose a better "how-to":D

Are you sure you have run SDA_ApplicationUnlock? I ran into this same problem after my first ROM flash. Running SDA_ApplicationUnlock solved the problem. I didn't realise you had to do it after flashing one of these ROMs. I assumed they would be unlocked, but it seems you still need to run it before Soft SPL will work again.

I got a question concerning the BT A2DP Version which is used in this Rom:

Is ist a WM6 or WM5 version?

My reason for asking is, that under WM6 The Joint Stereo Mode is working,

which means you will get better sound Quality with lower Bitrates...under WM5 it was only called Joint Stereo but it was Dual Mono indeed...

Using "real Stereo" at higher Bitrates (48K) kills the performance of the phone (for playing Music might be no prob, but using navigation with Voice Output you will notice the difference!)

has any one tried to use the google maps with my location and see if it can use the towers to get your location with in 1500meters?

I know the orginal cingular one didn't work with it, I wasn't sure if it was a hardware limitation or if the cingular ROM was lacking any DLL's or API or something along those lines which may be corrected in this update.

I'm a newbie, have never owned a WM device before, and just ordered the QTEK 8500 for my wife's Easter egg, and I'd like to upgrade to WM6 before she starts using the phone.

I've really read the WIKI explaining the WM definitions, and read through the various threads and I've read a lot of posts on how to flash the rom. As approaches develop there are various descriptions to accomplish unlocking + flashing, and I've become uncertain on the correct procedure for App Unlocking, CID unlocking and Flashing. My questions follow.

Originally I had understood I needed to CID unlock the unit as per damird's description in the sticky http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=292068&page=2

I also understand that the first part - using the regeditSTG and running SDA_Application unlock tools unlocked the apps, but not the CID.

Q1. Is this correct?

Then I read Eurofich's description of how to flash the v5c WM 6 ROM :
1) make an application unlock
2) copy content of SSPL to root of your device
3) run SPL.lnk
4) run ROM Update Utility.exe on your PC
5) follow the instructions
6) wait until flash process will be completed

In a later post Eurfich says:
"SuperCID isnt needed when using SoftSPL. Follow the flash instructions in 1st post only." I understand this new description is because SoftSPL

Q 2. (which I assume is the same as the 3) Run SPL.lnk. Correct?)

has the advantage of only temporarily unlocking the CID for new ROMs thus not breaking any warranties, which is preferrable.

I also interpret this as meaning it's sufficient to perform the first two steps of damird's description (i.e. use regeditSTG + run SDA_ApplicationUnlock), and there is no longer the need to perform the rest of the script (downloading itsutil.zip etc).

Q 3. Is my understanding correct?

Still in another post Eurofich mentions:

"Yes, [regunlock] its application unlock. Use SDA Application Unlocker for this purpose. If youre using latest european Qtek rom, you doesnt need it."

I take this to mean that if I have the latest European Qtek ROM, I no longer have to application unlock the device.

but activesync doesn't see my phone any more!

When your qtek is in flashmode, just start the romupdateutility.exe. No need for activesync at this time.

I am going to install the rom, but can I revert back to the classical wm5 if I want to:confused: I am using a greek bundled version by the greek importer ACE Hellas, and I believe that I can`t flash roms not intented for the greek imported devices. So , will it destroy my vendor ID ??
Another thing is, does it include the greek menus and T9, I thought I`d ask first...
BTW, on the russian site the version is v6e , is this the latest :confused:

Trust me: You won't go back :) BTW why not install Mobile 6.1? It's the latest version. Just read the threads in this forum.

You'll need a original rom with mobile 5 from your vendor. Maybe the original HTC/QTEK Roms work with your device.

No I guess no Greek language in this rom. But you can install Greek T9.

No problem. As for the right version, there are two versions of WM6.1 here in this forum. One from GnatGoSplat and one from Erofich
