I want to be able to turn off my device so that the buttons are locked but have the music keep playing while off so that the screen doesn't drain the battery.

My Hermes WM6 will play music with the device off. It has the followings settings.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ Preferences]
"UnattendedPlayback"=dword:1
"FastCacheReserve"=dword:8388608 (and also 800000)
"LocalCacheReserve"=dword:8388608 (and also 800000)

I've tried these settings on both the Kaiser and BA. They don't seem to work. I've heard that HTC Audio Manager solves this problem, but I don't like it.

Any Ideas on registry settings?

Thanks in advance.

Did you try CorePlayer? I'm streaming Alternative right now over 3G to my bluetooth DC800 in standby mode. (could be the ROM too though).

Sleuth:

Playing music with Coreplayer also turns off when device is turned off. There's a registry setting somewhere but I don't know where it is.

Thanks.

Works great for me .... I minimize it with QuickMenu or similar and press the off key on the device. WM + BT A2DP keep working. I have done no changes to the registry...

I have key 6 binded to Screen Off. So my buttons are still working, but the screen is off.

My MDA Vario III does this out of the box.

Looks like its ROM based. I've done nothing special to my ROM in this regard. Have you tried to flash a WM6.1 ROM? the improved bluetooth stack is a piece of wonder on WM6.1...

Inside the Options on Windows Media Player, look for the tab for Buttons. Right at the bottom of the list is Toggle Screen. If you assign this to the action button (or whatever) then press this during playback, the screen will turn off and the phone will ONLY respond to the direction pad to change volume or track.

I know it's not quite switched off, but to all intents and purposes it is but with music controls still enabled.

Just a thought!

I'm running Alex's latest WM6 v5 build based off of AT&T 1.61, and Windows Media player keeps playing when I press the power button on my Tilt. I have not changed any registry settings related to Windows Media Player.

It is definitively ROM related. Some do, some don't, some work with WMP and some work only with Coreplayer. I am currently using Sluth's 3.0 (WM6.1 based) and it works like a charm :)

I may have to try a 6.1 ROM. I want to fix this problem with the ROM I'm using because I just spent a lot of time getting everything else working perfectly.

There's got to be a registry setting for this. I've used several 6.0 ROMs which allowed the music to keep playing and some which didn't.

Thanks for all your input.

I did finally go to a 6.1 ROM. WMP still stops when the device is turned off. However, the HTC Audio Manager keeps playing when the device is turned off. That's good enough for now. I just wish someone would find the registry setting which allows WMP to keep working when turned off.

windows media and audio manager are both playing in suspended mode.
I remember a while back, in the Hermes forum, WM5 did not play in in suspended mode, but once it get upgraded to VM6, it does now. So it must be ROM dependent.

here is the only thing i added.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ Preferences]
"UnattendedPlayback"=dword:0x00000001

The dword value is already 1. I am running WM6.1

Thanks for responding anyway.

Just to add to this, it's is a ROM thing. My Vario II could turn off fine with music on using the HTC Audio player (using a WM6 ROM). So I was suprised that my new Vario III could not continue playing. It's such a silly fault! But, hooray for the fixers!

I use s2u2. after suspended mode music turns off. then turn it back on and s2u2 will lock the buttons and music turns on. set s2u2 to turn off screen in 30 sec and the music will keep on playing.

i just wanted to remind u guys that streaming over the internet and playing from the memory card are different.. just to clear up on the confusion:

Usally with the kaiser, the streaming media plays in suspended mode, and the music from storage card stops in suspended mode

I use the following setting on the Task Manager.
/Button/ End program by tapping and holding "X"
In that that wat the screen shuts down but the application keeps running.

Hope that does not sound too simple and corny.

PS. I am using Navdi Task Manager 2_0_31261_1

Cool thanks very much for that. My atom used to do that by default. For months now i've had to keep the screen on and use the scroll wheel to turn the volume down.

An interesting development on my Kaiser. I could not play audio with the screen off with the stock T-Mobile ROM. I have installed the t-mobile unbrand cab and the remote desktop cab and now I can play audio with the screen off!

I've found too that you can leave the "X" button to close on tap without holding , if you add WMP to the exclusive tasks list. When I click the "X" it essentially minimizes WMP while other (non-exclusive) tasks are closed with the "X" button. Just something to try if you don't want to have to hold "X" to close an app.

my experience of this is that music will continue playing when the device is off if and only if bluetooth is turned on - if bluetooth is turned off and i go to standby, the music will stop.
