View Full Version : Talking Dialpad
Grumps

Hi guys i found a way of when ur on ur dialpad to dial a number and one would press and hold a key for instance 1-9 including * and # that the phone will actually say the number out loud and also when you have a call waiting it could play an mp3 in your own ear instead of beeping. I dont know if here is an app out htere to do it but i can write it quite quickly if people would be interested?
It basically just adds keys to the registry to play an mp3 when u press and hold a key. I added the mp3s i use but would lik a lot more from other people so please upload then we can have a few different ones to use
Hey guys inphy a friend of mine is actually developing the app, this is the first beta, it only supports files to be in \my documents\ but it should work fine, have a look and ill geive him some feedback on waht to change etc.

Well i'm in, i'm always looking for ways to customise my mobile. And try to set it aside from the average joe.
On an extra note a customise app to include such things as being able to asign new keyboard slide sounds from an application. So you can choose a slot(1-0) then a name "Transformers" then choose the slide in sound and out sound separate. This would save everyone messing directly with the registry, renaming and moving files and such. Surely not too complicated for someone with programming knowledge. Find reg keys under Hkey_local_machine\Software\HTC\Slidingsound
Thanks look forward to this app and anything from this coder/programmer in the future.
Thank you once again.

just have one thought. it would make the response of the system little more. so you might feel some sluggishness

Indeed !
But maybe just little "sacrifice" speed up, we can get other "plus" point, such like you can dial without see the touchscreen while driving ??? :D

My wife has this on her dumb cell phone. It's great for hands free dialing and would be a nice addition to WM.

that's because they shut down as a company. the app you're talking about is their one handed dialer, i figure a google search will bring up some mirror of it. it's a nice tool, but i remember there was something weird with it, like you can't tap the numbers or something.

isn't it tru that all you would have to do for this to work is to set the registry values to play a sound when you press the button, and add a string that locates to the correct files that you want?

I had a similar decision for my old mpx200 (in 2004). Install TalkingKeys.cab, copy contents of archive in a folder \Application Data\Sounds. Sounds in Russian. It is possible to replace files on same in any language: 0-9 - number keys :),
resh.wav - #, zvezd.wav - *
It can be made and manually. Keys of the register responsible for it:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\Dtmf*
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\Dtmf#
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\Dtmf0 and ... 9
For example:
"Sound" (string) = %CE19%\Sounds\0.wav
Sorry my English.

Thats right you add a key in the registry to every key under HKLM\ControlPanel\Sounds\DTMF1 called sound and the value to \program files\tones\1.mp3 for example. i just wanna write an app where it will be easier to locate the iles and it will update the registry bu itself rather than reg hacking

Once you have set the sounds manually you can install the vib key .cab which will let you do this. I have .cab if you want??

Here's the vibrate key pad .cab. you can get the tones from Grumps first post. He hasn't finished the app yet so if you want to set the tones now then you will have to edit the registry manually. BUT PLEASE BE CAREFULL!! (BACKUP ANY KEYS YOU WANT TO CHANGE BEFORE YOU DO) If you need help either post or pm me.
Why not make your own short tones either on the pc or use built in voice record app. .reg will except both .wav and .mp3 native. (but I suggest a short .wav)
Hope this helps..

can someone make a CAB on the talking dailpad.
attached is a 'beta' cab that will give what you have requested, made up from info provided from this thread. Install then power cycle phone for the changes to register. Just adds wav files to a new folder called Dialpad Sounds and edits registry accordingly. (have not put in vibrate yet). The problem with this is that you have to push the key for as long as the word is otherwise you only hear a partial sound. Need to investigate further.
Remember always back up registry before making any changes.

It works fine. As you said, we need to press the keys for a longer time to hear the complete sound. However, the sound is very low.

Have normalised the wav found in moretones.zip Thanks moochermick.
See if that is any better.
Still hitting a brick wall as far as keypress duration.

I did this back on a SPV I got from Orange in the UK a number of years ago. I had unlocked it and used it with Cingular here in the States.
There were a ton of different voices to use. I may have some backed up somewhere.
I was ok for a while but sometimes you wanted to shut it up. Like the dog barking and cat meows lasted for about one key press.
It's kind of like " Ozzy " or " Yoda " telling me where to drive on my TomTom software.
