Does anyone find a nice case for the Excalibur ?

.PoNeH
4th November 2006, 12:17 AM
I have searched all over the net and kiosks in nearby shopping mall. None yet!

Well, you'll find the occasional case, but it isn't customized for the Dash. They're basically more universal and, therefore, pointless.

Shouldn't be too long before they come out though.

I'm using the one that came with my QTEK S100 to hold the Excalibur.
fits well and allows me to carry it safely around.

I just bought the T-Mobile Dash case from a T-Mobile store. It's quite good quality, only problem is that you have to take the phone out of the case to use it.

Just search for a Q case or a Blackberry case. Either of these should be sufficient.

I think everyone got theirs with the Dash, and no one is looking for the same one, or one like it. We're all wanting one that you can leave it in while you use it -- something that'll protect it if it drops -- but -- thanks for your input :)

Hopefully that's just the first of many. To be honest, it doesn't look all that 'customized'. Personally, I'm wanting a snug-fitting leather case >without< a flip cover, or any plastic over the screen. The link you provided is a nice one though, just not as practical a case as some other styles.

I thought that some of you guys will be interested to know. I have sent enquiry to Vaja regarding the HTC Excalibur case and this is what I have received:

Hi SecureGSM,
For the time being we have not determined whether a case for this device will be developed or not.
In case it is developed we will contact you via email to let you know of such release.
We appreciate your interest in our products. Thanks!

Kind regards,

I purchased a Jet Black Silicone case for T-Mobile Dash. It looks great and is much better than the case T-Mobile has. I bought it from eBay for $10 including shipping and handling.
I have also purchased transparent Silicone case, but it looks ugly, I wish I had never purchased transparent one.

anyone know of a really cool case sporty horizontal. How about the Incipio. anyone seen it. it looks nice. I hope it is not cheap? It is inexpensive so that is why I ask.

I mean there are nice brands out there like Vaja, Krusell, Fortte but I want something casual and fun. and I want to expose the phone when I take it out. don't want anymore cabriolet types like i had for my bb 8700

I think the stitching showing makes this one sporty

Then I was looking at these, they look sporty sure,...but too funky. Or have you seen it and it they are ok? which one?

I bought the 2400mAh battery from ETEN
http://shop.eten.hu/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=Dash&osCsid=2dfe72834b2db1d13770feab97d8f692

The battery life isn't that great for the first few charge/discharge cycles, but it gets progressively better... more than double the lifespan of the normal battery for me. With my normal usage it lasts for over 4 days, when previously I couldn't make it to 2 days very easily (I use it a lot).

In short, it's a great deal if you have the extra money to spend. One downside however is the normal belt clip case doesn't work for it. I have to use the one from the T-Mobile MDA now That one fits it perfectly. I miss the magnet in the Dash's case... much easier to snap together than the MDA's

I have it, and it works great. I didn't buy one of the net, but ordered one at a local battery-repair-shop, which guarantees its quality. The store-owner told me never to order batteries on the internet, because there's lots of rubbish out there. I paid €25,- for it, and have a years warranty...
The brand I bought is Cameron Sino Technology, model no.: CS-DC700SL, Part No.: 35H00080-00M

My battery life has been suffering greatly since upgrading to WM6....

I didn't think the move from the standard 960mah to the 1050mah would be that much of an "upgrade"

I did however go for the 2400mah one that is made for the phone and even comes with a replacement back battery cover to accomodate the slightly larger battery.

With 2400mah I don't think I will have any more end of the day power failures like I am getting now.

Well from my experience with that batteries, i can tell you of a battery i bought when i lived in Hong Kong for my PSP.
It was sold by a big company that sells many PSP accessories...well the original PSP battery has about 1800mAh (at least mine has), the one i bought is about 2600mAh.
Works fine as well, the battery life seems to be larger in the first place. But, it just stays long at a high level and then drops down quite rapid, so the life would be just comparable.
And be honest, what is the 'mind-blowing' difference between 960mAh and 1050?..sth like 90mAh??? :D
Not really that much now is it (considering what i said about it, and that was a difference of 800mAh..)
Afterall, the 2400mAh seems reasonable..but well, your decision, whether you like the 'moby dick'-excalibur afterwards or not;) Plus, i dont really have problems with the battery life, just sync it every 2 or 3 days, and the battery will be just fine !

Hello, I have a quick question and I am sure someone here can give me a better answer than the Tmobile help desk.

MY dash is acting really akward. My led on the dash is turning red then suddenly die. If I charge it all night, i can use it for maybe 20 minutes to an Hour Max. When I charge it, the led is orange then turns green after its charge but it wont last. You guys think its the battery? If its not then, I dont want to waste money on buying a new battery if thats the case. If someone has over came thing problem or have any ideas to resolve this issue, I will appreciate any help you show. Thank you

I'm new to this phone, but I'd probably monitor the battery meter in your settings... see if it's running out of juice really fast...

if it's showing a full charge and dying, no idea...

No overclocking software is being used i'm assuming?

It sounds to me like the battery is failing to hold a charge and the phone is automatically shutting down when the battery level gets critical. Check you battery level when the red light starts flashing, if your battery level is less then 10%, you most likely need a new battery. You can also try to use a battery from another dash or a cheap one from eBay to see if it fixes the problem.

Well, it doesnt warn or anything i dont think. I make a call or something, then stick the phn in my pocket, then few minutes later ill check and it be dead. I guess I will buy a new battery from ebay n see if that fixes the problem. Thank God I kep my wizard, instead of selling it on ebay. :) If anyone else know any other reason why its dieing, please share. Thank you

I'm on the Internet without the charger, and phone goes black(shuts off)

Your battery is dying. Happend to me. New battery problem went away. The battery's useful life seems to be way shorter than it should be (9 months in my case). It has been suggested that it was because I had a dock so it was connected to my PC all night and trickle charged rather than the faster dedicated charger. Still, picked up the 1050 clone and its great. Better than I remember the original being!

DotStig
6th November 2007, 11:03 PM
Ya know I was wondering about that....But on certain occasions the battery would show as being all the way full...Now are you saying that the battery is actually dying meaning no longer useful, or just low power??

jamssx
6th November 2007, 11:42 PM
Its actually dying. You need a new one. Its not holding the charge or delivering the current when a high drain occurs. I could watch my battery level drop on the display when I had WiFi turned on. I tried to recondition it but it made no difference.

I used these guys http://www.infinitybatteries.com/p-1485-t-mobile-dash-pda-battery-1050mah-li-ion.aspx and interestingly it shipped from HK even though they say they are in Virginia but the battery works really well.....

All the other holsters I have seen put the face of the phone pointing out.... this one does it correctly and faces it in for protection.

Does anyone know if other vendors sell this holster?

I only ask because being in Canada the shipping that Seido is charging is a bit high and really makes that holster expensive.

If there was an alternative place to buy I could compare shipping costs etc.

If you look..... that is the same as every other holster on the market with the exception of the Seidio one.

The Seidio one puts the device in with the face towards the back of the holster protecting the screen.

That is what sold me on the design.....

I think I will just bite the bullet and buy the one as listed in the link above.... no one else seems to carry it.

I am also running the 2400mah battery that is much thicker than the standard battery. The seidio holster works with the extended battery.

I've have my Dash for about a year. When I updated to Windows Mobile 6 among other bugs I noticed the phone's battery will go down very fast. Which I thought was due to the fact the phone doesn't deallocate the memory used by programs.

I have removed the MyFavs plugin from the startup folder already, and I noticed an improvement on the memory. I don't have other programs running on the background.

My phone's battery doesn't go down drastically when on standby. The problem is once I use it, even just to send a text message. It will go down about 2%.

I don't know if the problem is the battery or my phone. I would like to hear what you guys think. If you think the problem is the battery, could you please recommend me a better battery? If not, could you give me any suggestions?

I have also had severe battery drain issues very quickly after upgrading my dash to wm6 this past weekend. I have ordered a new battery because I will need more than one to get through a day if this persists but I do have trouble thinking that this is a mere coincidence and the battery has just met it's end.

With wm5, running an average of 60 min talk time, push email and a random hour of applications or games, I had at least 2 bars left by days in (11PM).

Within two days after the upgrade to wm6, I have found that I hit 2 bars within 3 hours. I have checked all of my power settings to adjust for best battery life yet it's still killing my battery quick. The only change I have made to the phone from the first two days until now is going back to the 5.99 t-mobile net plan and using the proxy for web/email.

I use Task Manager to regularly kill any program I am not using outside of leaving the messaging open. I have also tried making sure messaging is not left running to see if that will improve but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

Anyone have any suggestions or advice on what could possibly be causing this because I have a hard time seeing a new battery fix this issue?

I got a new battery today. It looks like that's what I needed. Thanks for the replies anyway. I did order it through amazon.com.

About the memory leak, and battery drain, removing myfavs from the startup folder helps a lot. Now every time I close all the programs I get the 22+ kb back.

Thanks!

Ok, I finally figured out what was causing the battery drain since the upgrade...I don't know how or why, I just know that since I deleted the program my phone is back to normal battery life for the past 12 hours (previously was going from full to dead in 4 hours regardless of use).

I had downloaded a cab from omnisoft found in a thread at: http://www.asktheadmin.com/2007/07/some-new-dash-tips-tricks-for-wm6-tip-1.html for fixing the profile/reminder bug found with wm6.

It did fix the bug but the severe battery drain was not pleasant. I deleted the program off my phone, reset the phone and everything has been working just fine. I'm assuming that many experiencing the same problem may have come across this solution as well. The profile/reminder bug did not return after deleting the program. So far so good, I will be sure to update if there is any change.

I can't remember where but I did come across a forum where someone seemed to be experiecing something similar. Sounded like the solution was replacing the charger itself. At first, I had the same problem like u.It took 1h to charge from 1% to 100% down 1% in 20s and from 100% to 97% when I just pull out^^, but I tried to charge it overnight (maybe 3-4hrs)then it seemed to be normal ^^ maybe there was some problem with the operation that gave us wrong infomation about the power when it reached 100%.

My dash battery died about a year after i bought it. I thought it was the phone at first. It just couldn't hold a charge and took forever to charge. I bought the large battery for it. the 2400mah one. (link to example (http://www.wirelessground.com/tdasuex24lii.html)). I can go at least 2 days without charging the battery on light use. The regular battery's are a lot cheaper though. This makes the dash a bit bigger. Might not be what your looking for.

Yeah man I sent in my Dash to T-Mobile thinking the phone was no good. I got the new one and realized it was the battery. Pissed me off because they charged me for internal water damage. I didn't have a problem with the phone or anything and the sticker was white but they still said there was damage. If I'd have known I was gonna get charged for the phone (when the battery was the problem) I would still have my old Dash. Now I'm about to get my third one because my second one (replacement) died last night. I pulled the battery out and it never came back on. I hope I can get it fixed before I get the new one.

I've got two problems with my Dash at this point.

First is the battery. This has been going on for a little while now, but it seems my battery life has decided to jump off a cliff. Just today, for example, I took the Dash off its charger, and after taking one picture, and sending it off, and attempting to listen to some music via A2DP, I ended up at 56% battery life (total time on battery power: approx 1.5 hours, Time using A2DP: <3 min). It's getting to the point where I have to charge my phone two or three times per day. I know smartphones traditionally have bad battery life, but my Dash's battery life has never been this bad. I've been able to go around, listening to music via A2DP for around two or so hours, and end up with around 80% battery life. And I'm not even hammering away at the WiFi or EDGE.

The other thing is that I now seem to be experiencing crashes when I use LiveJournal Mobile and A2DP to listen to music. I'm not sure if it's one of these two things, or a combination, but all I know is that these crashes happen silently (IE: I get no notification, unless I'm currently listening to music), and I'm missing phone calls. Is there some kind of known issue with this? I'm working to try and isolate the problem more specifically.

Thanks!

When I use the built-in speaker, I get weird errors. Ringtones and songs play too fast, and with the wrong pitch. The alarm also goes off four time simultaneously. This problem survived a pair of hard resets.

System problems are solved one at a time. Suggest replacing the battery first and then see what problems have been eliminated. If you have a local T-Mobile store, ask to use the demo battery and try it with your unit, if you do not want to spend about $20 for tha battery until sure.

Oops, just noticed you are with AT&T. I still think a new battery is a path to correcting your problems.

My situation has actually worsened. My phone now randomly shuts off, whether or not Bluetooth is actually activated, and this happens at a more random interval, but seems to manifest when the battery is around 70%. My friend with a newer Dash is reporting similar issues, and people are reporting problems over at the HTC Wiki. This seems a little too widespread to just be the battery. As a financially challenged student, I don't want to drive out 20 minutes to the nearest T-Mobile store to buy a $20 battery, only to find out I need a whole new phone.

Now, this is gonna seem kinda smartassed, but have you actual TRIED anything with the battery? Seriosuly, and this comes from an IT professional here...sometimes the smallest thing can cause an entire big thing to fail. Try swaping batteries with your friend and see if that solves your problem. I have had the high-pitched fast music problem too....and a simple soft-reset fixed that for me.

I've had my S620 (T-Mobile Dash) for about one year. I have had issues with battery life, and now possess three batteries - one in the device and two more I carry around charged. As an earlier posted noted, any "heavy" use, particularly PocketIE, will drain a fully charged battery surprisingly quickly.
Starting in recent weeks/months, it has gotten worse - the device will abruptly shut off sometimes when using PocketIE, or as recently occurred when sending an email with a photo attachment (very heavy data network use). My guess is that some activities on the phone cause the CPU to peg and the battery can't supply enough power to keep the device running.
Not that this is conclusive, but a few minutes ago I switched to another one of my three batteries and beat up the device a bit in ways that caused a series of sudden shutdowns in earlier testing today, and haven't been able to reproduce the sudden shutdown. So, I probably have one bad battery. It's disappointing how little longevity we get out of these batteries (and, yes, I do realize how hard duty they perform. Still.)
Hopefully this will be helpful to someone.

oh mann...sorry to hear about what's going on with you, BUT FINALLY I'M AT PEACE MYSELF :@

cause for the past two to three weeks, i was experiencing HELL with my phone. i've had the phone since last june, have used wi-fi/ad2p on it but the past 2-3 weeks, i've used nothing on it, a basic phone call and my phone would shut down, if i dont make any calls, it would be fine for 30 mins then die.

like everyone suggested, i'd buy a new battery which i did myself and since yesterday (after i recieved the battery) my phone's been back to normal now i find myself loving the phone like i did before so do buy a new battery and hopefully, all your problems will end.

good luck !

i was running a brand new battery this weekend on a full charge and was listening to some tunes. i got MAYBE an hour to an hour and a half before the battery was completely dead.

under normal operating conditions my battery works as it did with 6.0 and i have no drain issues at all... in fact it last just as long in 6.1 as with 6.0 as far as i can tell.

i wonder if 6.1 has some issues specifically with multimedia and battery life. it certainly did for me!!

My original battery was already on it's way out when I installed WM6.1 so I'm not sure of the difference in drain. I now have the 1550mAh extended battery and get two full days of relentless use. I listen to music through stereo bluetooth for at least an hour and a half a day as well as about an hour of talk time, 100 or so texts, and sharing files via bluetooth with coworkers.

Hello. I have standart 960MAh battery and my battery life with 6.1 is about two days and a half.

I have another question: I read about that windows needs some full charge-uncharge cycles to make battery indicator work correct. before that is stays 100% for a long time and then fast goes down. is this true?

mine is starting to shut down at random. usualy when I use IE. I then have to take the battery out and then I can usually get it to start again. maybe its the battery but it never happened until I switched to 6.1 my battery is not lasting as long as it did a week ago.

where are you guys getting deals on new batteries, I saw some on amazon last night.

Just curious if anyone else is having this issue. I downloaded the REMAKED Kavana 080318 by rick WM6.1 ROM and I love it except that for some reason everytime I launch internet explorer my phone shuts down. I can launch it and hit a few links and then it will just shut down. I then try to turn it back on and it will power to the windows mobile scrren and shut down or all the way back up to the main screen and then turn right back off. The only way to keep it on after this happens is to plug it in. A couple time pulling the battery for 10sec and reinserting has worked. Now the battery is good 80% charged, I've tried this after a full charge and it does the same thing.
If I keep it plugged in it works fine no issues, so my question is, is it the battery or another issue?
Is there a better web browser to use with 6.1?

I already ordered a new battery, but I really don't think that is the issue, IE has been working fine under 6.0 for the past 6 months. No issue until now.

maybe the wi-fi was on or something... or maybe your phone is sett to stay on longer then it should (the blacklight) cause for me it lasts a lot longer is what I noticed. If not try to get a new battery from ebay, I got another one for like 5 dollars all together.

I'm not having that problem, but sometimes IE will lock up. I can usually kill it with the task manager. Sometimes the phone will lock up and I have to push the power switch or pull the battery. This happens with the phone plugged in or running on battery. I'm going to try opera mini tonight to see how that behaves.

Just got off the phone with Tmo and I tried to get them to send another battery but they are sending a new (possibly and hopefully not a refurb) S620. Battery was my guess since it functions fine on the charger.

When the new one dies I'll spot for one of the 2200mAh batteries on ebay.

I am running a brand new dash that was sent out as a replacement for my last one that kept locking up. They will not send a new battery, you will have to use the one you've been using. So now I dont know if it is the battery or the new phone I got sent. Either way I bought a new battery, hope it gets here soon so I can start to figure it out. I just downloaded rick's v3 ROM and I have the same issue.

So heres the story

A while back, I decided to do the 5.99 hack
for around 2 months it worked fine, then my phone started to turn off for no reason while i was using data.
so i thought the problem was with the hack, so i took off the tzones plan.
after going on wi-fi a couple of weeks after, the phone turned off again, so i realized that it might not of been the hack that messed up my phone (so i took off the tzones plan),
i went through numerous phones (3-4), using the same battery, and they all turned off during wifi.
now i got a new battery and wi-fi is working flawlessly.
so i am pretty sure the old battery is what caused this problem.
so now i am debating whether i get the tzones plan again
i am just concerned if the hack is what caused my phone to act this way in the first place.
so what do you guys think?

did any of you guys ever have a problem like this? if so, what was the root of this problem.

any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Well if anybody creates software that will damage batteries, they deserve some type of prize!

Don't want to sound like a smartass... but the "hack" you're talking about is not a "hack". It's just a setting TMobile chooses not to tell you about, in order to get you to buy the full price internet plan. :)

OK Here we go... here's a few quick links I found for you, and they all seem reasonable.

$12.99 (wow.. clearance!) LOL (http://www.cellphoneshop.net/batterys620.html)

Amazon has it new (OEM) for $15.99 (http://www.amazon.com/ORIGINAL-T-Mobile-Excalibur-Battery-TMobile/dp/B000RK1AYI/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1207273025&sr=8-1)

Another Amazon item... not OEM, but cheaper... $8.97 new (http://www.amazon.com/T-Mobile-Smartphone-Standard-Lithium-Ion-Replacement/dp/B000N38FI8/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1207273025&sr=8-2)

Those all seem pretty decent :) But I would be leary of the non-OEM battery. Good luck, buddy.

SpringfieldXD45C
4th April 2008, 03:46 AM
Actually, the non-OEM seems to have a couple of good reviews, so you know... If you want to save a buck and take the chance, go for it. You'd think if it sucked there would be at least ONE bad review for it. I know when I get a bad egg at Amazon, the first thing I do is bash the hell out of it in a review.

Yeah, I'm gonna retract my statement above about being leary of the non-OEM battery. I'd have to say that the only remaining risk of using a non-OEM battery would be a warranty void, and that doesn't apply to you, as you no longer have a warranty.

Anyone else have any experience with non-OEM batts?

Anyway, hope I helped. Poor guy, I know what it feels like to need a new battery only to have the dealer say "Sorry, you're screwed" and see a $40 dealer price tag.

The one thing it's doing now is that I can't sync - could be the battery again, but it WAS syncing at first (win XP with AS 4.5) - This is a strange issue which annoys me (I'm using Ricky's v6 rom) but I'm going to wait until the battery replacement b4 I start going nuts trying to "fix it"

The thing is my phone is drain like.. hell. Just 2 hours my pocket doing nothing and it's dropped from 100 to 84%.
The problem is sometime when I flash it with official WM6 firmware, the issue doesn't happen to me. I can leave it for 6 hours straight and the battery still stays at 96-98%. Remember that it's sometime, because when I flash it to another 6.1 firmware, I got the issue, and flash official WM6 back doesn't help it.

first I flash to Kavana ROM 18/03/2008 version. Battery is still fine. After that I messed up with the registry so I flash it again with 20/03/2008. That is when the issue started. I've tried every rom I can get (6.1 30/03/2008, ricky's ROM) but nothing helps. Right now i'm running official WM6 RUU_Excalibur_HTC_WWE_Brightpoint_US_1.33.422.1_4. 1.13.51_03.07.90_Ship version and it downs from 100 to 84 in 2 hours.

Here is a description from the post:

Brand new non-OEM
Capacity: 960mAh
Powerful: Provides up to 5-6 hours of talk time and up to 2 weeks of standby time (depending on smartphone configuration)
Rechargable: Recharges in phone or in the battery drawer of Cradle Kit
Safe: Built-in overcharging protection

I guess the most important part is that its NON-OEM, its been working great so far I havent actually cheked on the talk time but it works better than the original one. It was only like 10 dollars so it wasnt bad

I'll go ahead and add myself to the list, my phone started doing this after I updated to the official HTC 1.33 ROM. I've been through 4 NEW batteries in the last week, which my local T-Mobile store was happy to replace each time.
At this point I can let my battery fully discharge until the phone turns itself off, then pull the battery for 5 minutes, when I replace the battery and power up the phone under Settings>Power Options battery level reports 60%+ charge level. BUT, if I actually try to use the phone it dies instantly.
My battery also bulges now to the point that the back cover has to curve around the battery to slide on properly. It is my belief that one of the updates somehow corrupted the internal charging circuit in the phone. Once again I have tested with:
1 original battery
4 NEW batteries
t-mobile wm5 ship rom
t-mobile wm6 ship rom
htc 1.33 wwe rom
ricky's wm6.1 v5, v6 roms

There has been no change in battery charge level or capacity. Does anyone know if there is there some deeper system firmware that regulates battery status I may not be aware of? Also I have heard that the Excalibur is manufactured in China and Taiwan, the Taiwan variant being superior. Mine is made in China.

yea this reoccurring problem with the Dash is a real turnoff, I made a thread on it too and came to the same conclusion. Have you tried running 6.1 but not using the sliding theme? That's what I'm currently using and I have found that it atleast helps (possibly placebo effect?). This battery deal has driven me to the point of considering other phones.

its not just this phone either, my good friend has a universal and after upgrading to an official htc rom his battery life went to h*ll also. Even a new oem battery had the same effect. I would really like to see this fixed as it seems the battery charge level is just not being reported properly.

no using another homescreen did not help, im back to the wm5 tmobile ship rom and it is still doing the shutdown routine, instantly on wifi and with a small delay when syncing to exchange. my warranty is gone and im really bummed.

Hey guys, regarding the excalibur battery issue: last night i was reading a thread that recommended a hard reset between flashes. It occured to me that i have never done this before, so for sh*ts and grins i did, then ran sda app unlock, followed by uspl, finally flashing back to the ship t-mobile wm5 rom, yeah oldskool right?

Phone came up and the battery meter still reported 60%+ like it's been doing since the htc 1.33 rom update, but as soon as i turned on wifi it died. Here is the good part though, when my phone finally came back up it reported only 2% battery then promptly shut down showing the tmo shutdown animation.

Phone is sitting on the charger now and reporting 40% charge after being plugged in for an hour and a half. I dont know if it was the ship rom or the hard reset before flashing, but i thought someone else experiencing this issue might want to give it a shot and maybe we can come up with something, good luck...

My battery stays 100% a half a day. Another half on 85%, all other day on 75 and in the beggining of the third go to 2% and thats all :)

with Kavana's ROM. It seems to be isolated to when I turn WIFI on. Battery just dies very quickly. I have not had time to troubleshoot it yet, but right now I plan on not even turning on WIFI for a while to make sure that battery charge holds longer.

Is there a plugin or hack, that will display my battery life in percentage on the sliding panel homescreen while my phone is locked?

There arent any plugsins for CHome, that I know of. When the phone gets locked, unfortunately, CHome always defaults to the first panel, the clock. So a hack would be pretty difficult to do, unless you could somehow show the battery percentage in one of the panels below, while it's collapsed.

but i swear by the metal cases for my dash. I've had 2 of them. The first one i had was listed on pdair's website. The other one ( the one i use now) Is caled innopocket metal black case.
The two major differences are the one on pdair's site ( and its the same one listed on 99% on all other sites) leaves the top of the case open after you close the top cover, which for me never completely secired the phone and allowed it to shift while it was in the case. The one i use now ( the innopocket metal black case) is completely enclosed and keeps the phone from moving and shifting while the top cover is closed. Here's the link for the one i use, but I'm sure other sites sell it too. http://cgi.ebay.com/INNOPOCKET-BLACK-METAL-ALUMINUM-CASE-FOR-T-MOBILE-DASH_W0QQitemZ300212707451QQihZ020QQcategoryZ32233 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I use the OEM leather pouch made for the balckberry curve. If you are in T.O. you can get it from a Rogers Wireless pretty cheap. I think it is like 30$. You can also ask at the store to try it out first. So now, when i lock my phone, instead of the time being the default panel, it is settings and the link that shows is the battery meter

The battery issue has plagued my dash for the last 6 months, i dont use the phone anymore since it just shuts off randomly. Especially on wifi. A new (actually 4 new) battery didn't solve the problem. If you go into a actual t-mobile store (locations can be found on tmobiles website) it is my experience that they will give you a new battery. Give it a shot, hope this works for you.

P.S. try tmobile stores in nicer areas, they seem to be more receptive

sadly a new battery has not helped solve my problem. it seems the phone is not fully charging the battery and the charge level will not report accurately either. sometimes it's 60%+ sometimes its 80%+ then if i make a call it just dies. i have been through several batteries and roms, have not been able to resolve this yet.

Hi,

I have an unlocked T-Mobile Dash (I am in Canada on Fido). And I have been experiencing the crazy battery behaviour others describe.

I have ordered another Battery on ebay - with a 1050mv rating instead of the oem 960mv. I am hoping that will help.

I am getting situations where a fully charged battery will be down to 36% in 35 minutes of watching wmv and/or listening to music. This is without making a call during that period. Then when I plug it in to my work machine by USB it will begin the slow re-charge. But here is the odd thing, If I turn the phone off, to help speed up the re-charge - in a few seconds the light goes green and the phone shows as fully charged. We all know you can't go from 36% to 100% in the space of less than 10 seconds.

This supports others statements that the phone may be at fault rather than the battery. It is mis-reading the level of charge and probably ceasing charging when it has only a partial charge - probably repeatedly. It is this unusual thing of jumping to full charge if it is turned off that tell me something is really wrong here. I can also prompt that situation by turning off the phone in the Comm Manager, then turning it back on again. The light will usually jump from orange to green immediately. The last time it was at 42% before jumping instantly to 100%.

Since I have 3 different AC chargers and use two different PC's for USB charging, that can't be the problem.

This situation has survived several ROM updates, right from the original T-Mobile 5 1.11 to Mobile 6 1.22 and now with the Kavana 6.1 080408

And since I bought it as an unlocked phone - I am on my own.

Anybody have any ideas?

It has always been my policy that "you get what you pay for"... So I figure if you look for cheap prices, you'll most likely get a cheap product. I was having the same problem with the battery on my Dash. It couldn't hold a full charge for longer than 5 hours (w/ minimal phone activity). I took it to a T-Mobile store and they exchanged it for a brand new battery. I began to use different charging methods than I previously used on my first battery. With Li-Ion batteries (batts), if they're charged while already maintaining a relatively sufficient amount of power...their ability to hold a charge will diminish over time. So I would let it drain until about 15-20%, then charge it.

It worked, but eventually I upgraded to an extended life batt from HTC (1550mAh). It's currently $49.95 from Wireless Ground (http://www.wirelessground.com/tdahtcexac.html). Pay for quality. It works great.

I would definitely give the eBay batt you ordered a try. If you continue to experience problems with drainage and false charging, then you may want to evaluate the ROM you are using. I myself, still use the T-Mobile WinMo 6.0 ROM...but I've read in MANY threads that the cooked 6.1 ROMs devour batt charge. ...then again, in many threads I've read that those very same ROMs improve battery life. It's a toss up. But definitely try the new batt before jumping to any conclusions.

I had the same issue with original HTC 6.0 ROM and OEM battery on my unbranded HTC-620. Paid $10 for eBay non OEM and got 2 full days, Flashed the Phone with Ricks v7 6.1 Rom and it holds the charge even better! I have 3 HTC 620 Phones, one unbranded, and two T-Mobiles. I have replaced batteries on all of them, all of them are working good now.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will give it a try. Actually today, I set the phone running videos for about half an hour and ran it down from a reading of 100% (probably not) down to 26%. I then connected it to my pc and have left it. I am avoiding touching it other than to take a read of the charge level. Using USB (2.0 powered port) is has moved from 25% to 75% in 4 1/2 hours. That is what should happen, not go to 100% in a few seconds. I believe there is a linkage between shutting the phone down while it is charging then re-booting it. This may cause some element of the circuitry to take a false reading on the state of charge. Of course the micro chip in the battery could be the culprit as well. I will try loading it by running videos and see how well it holds a charge and see if (by leaving it alone and letting it slow charge on its own) overcomes this issue. Supposedly you should be able to get up to 8 hours of WMV use with it.

I'm looking for a new one thats at least 1200mAH and have found a few on the internets for around $50. Has anyone found a better deal out there for a decent battery that doesn't require a new back?

Thanks,

I got my 1550 mAh from WirelessGround for $49.95. Right now they are still running this special. Here's the website: http://www.wirelessground.com/htctda15exba.html. The battery works great, compared to the stock battery.

I'm curious how far the new back panel sticks out.. Is it noticable? Does it make the phone awkward?

Thanks,

It sticks out maybe 1/2 a centimeter further than the original battery door. I can still use it with my old carrying case (but it depends on the case you have). I actually like the added "bulk" the extended battery gives the phone. It makes it look like there's more to the phone than "meets the eye". lol

I have one of the extended batteries (2800maH) on the Tilt. On the downside, the panel sticks out an additional 9/32 of an inch. On the upside, when you lay the phone down, the camera lense cannot contact the surface at all.

With the GPS, BT, WiFi, and Cellular radios, an extended battery is required. I enjoy the extra time. I use my phone with Tmo and so run on the GPRS network. Unless I'm watching a movie or using the GPS for hours, I can easily get a full day. I use a rapid charger in my car to get around the GPS consumption.

Yes this is not so expensive, but in this price you will have 6 normal batteries...
And maybe you know this will not expand your time without charging double. I think If now you have 3 days, you will have 4.5 days. Is this Day and half so important?

I have computer near to me every fuckin minute, because I am IT Specialist, and that is my job. But I think most every normal guy in modern world spent more than one hour on PC - am I right? Just put some USB cable in to your phone every time you use PC and this will make your phone always charged. This expensive battery will be functional in 8-10 mounths. And then you must buy another, for another 40$.

I can totally see your point, I too am an IT professional and am on a computer all day. Most of the time with my phone plugged into my usb cable (which may have somewhat caused the battery to fail and become pregnant).

But for the price, i feel its totally worth it. The shoddy 960mAH stock battery is pretty much worthless when you are using wifi/bluetooth/edge. And even in the batteries prime, I was lucky if it lasted a day.

I sort of hope that it expires after 8-10 months and I hope I keep my 12mo warrenty info somehwere I can find it... IMO its well worth the $40 compared to $50 for half the mAH...

It was always my understanding that if you constantly charge your Li-Ion batt (without letting the power drain to the minimum) it'll begin to lose the ability to hold a charge. I've noticed this with my stock batt. I used to always keep it charged when I could access a USB or a wall socket, but after a while my phone wouldn't stay charged for 5 hours. I got a replacement stock batt and would let it drain to about 10% before charging--this produced a much stronger ability to hold a charge. Now I use that same method with my 1550mAh extended batt.

i wish this info was posted a couple of weeks ago before i spent $90 on a 2400mAh from mugen power. didnt know it would be a thicker battery meaning a bulkier back end. now im not sure if i should auction it off or just keep it for the rare needful occasions. oh well, you live and you learn.

Having had stock T-Mobile USA ROMs for past year on Dash I got used to having battery down to approx 60% at end of the day. Charge overnight, then use for day - always approx 60% charged at end of day. Didn't make much difference between WM5 and WM6.

I have Ricky's V18 ROM on phone for past couple of weeks, and I am amazed. I picked up my phone this morning - it has 62% charge, having not been charged (or sync'ed) for 48 hours.

Has Microsoft made this difference in Wm 6.1 ? If so congrats to them for efficiency improvements.

Or, is there something in the T-Mobile ROM that was sucking the life out of the phone ?

I'd love to hear your experiences/opinions.

I think it's probably the battery meter. In using a kavana ROM, I found that it will drain from 20% to 2% in a matter of minutes, even if you're not doing anything with it.

That's one of the "gotchas" with beta software (6.1 i mean), I suppose. Or maybe it's just me and nobody else is experiencing that...

My battery life was WONDERFUL until I overclocked it from 200mhz to 240mhz. The batt life is okay...but not as good as before.

I switched from WM5 to WM 6.1, and my battery life seems worse. Before, I had no problem going for 2 days without recharging on light use, but now I get to 30% sometimes in the 2nd day.
What version of 6.1 are you using? I'm using Ricky's v6.

Guys, you have to remember, this is a quicker rom. With that said it will use more battery.
Plus make sure you dont have extra programs running in the background. (startup) that you dont need.

Profezza
21st April 2008, 04:31 PM
Having had 3 dashes, and having swapped batteries once between a couple of them, and many ROM switches and various sustained Overclockings, I'd say the performance varies most from battery to battery. Assume overclocking can hurt battery life slightly by the percent that you are OC'ed. OS ROMs seem to make little difference, as fast ones get their job done quicker. I suspect newer radio images will help the most, software-wise, with minor improvements in tower connection timing.

Also, Mikey has a very good idea about keeping the startup tasks to a minimum. There is no way to boot in safemode on a Smartphone reliably, and background tasks make the experience less fast, and thus causes you to spend more time with the screen on for the same foreground tasks, aside from the drain they cause themselves.

Profezza
21st April 2008, 04:36 PM
... it will drain from 20% to 2% in a matter of minutes, even if you're not doing anything with it...

PArt of the nature of a Lithium based batter is very quick charging (and discharging at "the bottom". Not only will it go from 20 to 2 quickly, but it can go from 2 to 50% much more quickly than it will go from 50 to 98. Some battery meters compensate for this, some don't wich is worse htan if they would all act consistent.

NRGZ28
21st April 2008, 05:19 PM
I have to agree it depends A LOT on the battery and most of it on the age of the battery. My old DASH would drain a lot quicker. A few days ago I got a brand new Dash and the battery doesnt go past 80% after a full day of work (push email, wifi, browsing etc). My old dash would be at about 50% at the end of the day. So... if you want more battery life and yours is a little older, just get a new battery! :)

LiverpoolFCfan
22nd April 2008, 11:13 AM
Everyone seems to be reading that I am bitching about battery life. It is completely the opposite. I am amazed with it !

My one year old Dash and one year old battery used to be down to 60% after a day of use (7am-11pm). If I forgot to charge overnight it would die before 11pm the following night unless recharged.

It is now giving me two full days (7am-7am two days later) before it is down to 60%. This morning it is at 42% after 72 hours without a charge or a sync.

At this level the battery life is close to what I would expect of a regular non-smartphone.

I was asking peoples opinion as to whether this improvement is all down to better efficiency in the OS - or is it down to the removal of something in the T-Mobile branded versions of the older OS's that were sucking up battery.

littleclown
22nd April 2008, 01:42 PM
First of all I think that the faster ROM use less battery... Why?
I will give some examples: Xp is faster than Vista. Vista use more memory, procesor, etc.

Other opinion - I think battery meter in WM somehow teach itself when you use your phone and makes full charge cycles - 100%-0% and then charges to 100%. In this case maybe WM can make meter more correct and percent constantly follow in time.

I think one Dash battery works fine about 8-10 months.
Not cool, but true.
One normal battery costs about $5-$6, no big deal.

Bupahs
22nd April 2008, 04:26 PM
First thing I do when I buy a new device is buy an extended battery. My Dash will last 3 days without a charge and I am one heavy user. I use the Slim Extended Battery (1300mAh) which does not require a new battery door. I also have a 2100mAh slim coming from Japan, non-oem but so far I've never had an issue with those batteries.

Rakicomputers (http://stores.ebay.com/Rakicomputers) an ebay seller, is selling brand new replacement parts(T-mobile Brand)for your Excalibur. This is the complete shell casing minus the battery door, not a bad deal for $27.95 shipped to your door. This seller has 164 of these ready to go.

I thought this would be some good info considering these cases go for $80.00+ and It's not a bad future investment, I purchased my Excalibur used and the screen was the only part that was flawless so I'm in need of a face lift. I just ordered one and I'll posted quality results when it arrives.

From what I've heard, a stock Li-Ion batt should last you from 8-12 months. You've already said that you've had your Dash a year, so maybe a new battery isn't such a bad idea. You can possibly get one for free from your local T-Mobile Store. I've told them that my batt won't hold a charge, and they gave me a brand new one for the freeskee...

Hello,

I just got Rogers to replace my phone as I had some issues with my phone in regards to reception, phone freezing up and having issues with the battery I have.

Unfortunately, I can't find the original battery. I'm unsure if Rogers is able to tell if I replaced my battery or not. I hope not.

I bought an ebay battery a while ago which has lasted me 4-5 months because the original battery died in 5-6 months as well. Now they said incase they find no hardware fault with this phone, they would bill me. Is it important that I send back the "original battery" or the e-bay "battery is just as good" - by the way it looks ditto like the original battery.

Product of China
Model EXCA160
3.7 VDC - 960mAh

S/N: KERA16A3002474

By the way, my phone is Made in Taiwan and it says EXCA100. Could you please tell me if the battery says EXCA100 as well for the people that have the Taiwanese version.

Please confirm this. I would appreciate your help, Thanks.

Yeah, the problem is that the battery SUCKS.

I have had my Dash for a couple years now. I got a new battery like 2 months ago. It was a double capacity battery. Now, if I just use my phone like a phone, I can go 4-5 days without recharging. Before was like a day at best. If I use my phone for music or games and talking, I can get like almost a full day of use out of it. Come on now, it is really small and you can only suck so much juice out of that battery, so if you wanna listen to music a lot and surf the net, get a car charger or the double sized battery. Trust me these are necessary for hardcore use. Listening to music if even for like a couple of hours, is hardcore usage on one of these phones.

BUY AN EXTRA CAPACITY BATTERY!!!
you'll be glad you did. search ebay,i got mine for 25 bucks plus shipping.

Amen, brother!!! lol I had to shell out for a 1550mAh extended life battery. I do wayyy too much on a daily basis to withstand a 960mAh batt!

Hey Syntaxx,

Does it still fit properly in the regular case or you have to get a different battery door so the battery protrudes? If not, then wicked. :)

P.S: My Battery SUCKS TOO :@ - Sick & Tired of charging it at the end of the day, mine lasts half a day to be honest, a lil more than half...i go to university at 12, by the time im back, like 10 hours or so its almost dead (if not fully charged, if fully charged, till approx.12 am..so yeah it sucks. and yeah this is my 2nd battery that i got off ebay and it's the oem one.

Mine came with a wider battery door... So yeah, it's a tad thicker than the original--but it still fits my old battery case! Just a little snug...lol They do have "slim" extended-life batteries, but I didn't know about them when I got mine. You should check into that. I saw one which was 1300-something mAh, but it fit the original battery door! I wish I had known about it sooner...

I was thinking about maybe purchasing this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320255974341
or should I just go with the http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-S620-T-Mobile-Dash-2200mAh-Li-Ion-Extended-Battery_W0QQitemZ320254679148QQihZ011QQcategoryZ20 336QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZ p1638Q2em118Q2el1247

I mean will there be a dramatic difference between the 1600mAh and the 2200mAh?

On WM5, my phone would easily last 2-3 days in regular use. After having switched to WM6.1 it lasts a bit more over a day under light use.

I somehow suspect that the problem is with charging. For example, today I was charging the phone. It was slowly creeping up 25%...26%..27%...
then the charge suddenly jumped to 92%.
I had other cases where I put my phone to charge, and 30 minutes later, led was green, charge was 100%. But it was a fake charge... lasting only an hour or so.

When I do manage to charge my phone properly, it does last for a long time. But I'm not sure how to do that. I suspect WM6.1 has problems with proper charge level calculation.

I bought the 2200mAh off ebay, like $20. TOTALLY worth it, especially since I've gotten all kinds of new things with the 6.1 I can go about 2 days without having to recharge. VERY awesome, I also text and talk A LOT, like prolly 4k min a month and about 1k text. so, the bat life is way good :)

In the xda-developers store there's a Seidio 1500mAh SLIM extended-life battery. It should fit the regular-sized battery door and still provide the juice of an extended-life battery.
