My question in about this sweetie over here:

http://i.expansys.com/i/b/b161664.jpg

I want to buy it to be able to listen to music in the car while navigating and charging. Here are the tech details from the expansys website:

Technical Details
• HTC ExtUSB standard headset connector
• Mini USB power connector
• 3.5mm audio connector (with in-line mic support)
• 2.5mm audio connector (with in-line mic support)
• Power status light

Sounds great and everything, but what's bothering me is this:

... (with in-line mic support)

Since the connector is some extended one, will a standard 3.5 (say, standard headphones) fit well in it? I doubt it but wanted to ask anyway to be sure :)

Have you actually heard of a 3.5mm audio connector with a mic?

Sure there is a 3,5 conneciton with mic.

I have a headset with 3,5 to my htc 7500.

I bought this one:
http://www.pdair.com/images/s/UA_1.200x200.jpg
and I can confirm that it will charge, you can listen to the music coming from the TC (using the AUX from a car radio or plug a headset in the 3,5) and Tomtom navigation. Yours appears to me more sophisticated, since it has a 2 connectors with Mic input (wonder if the TC can handle that) and a power status light.
Here's the link to the item I bought: http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product...oducts_id=6810

Which miniUSB-to-3.5mm adapter do you use to get mic support?

Do you think this (http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_900000_11000220&products_id=6811) will work?

That one is stereo output only. It does not include mic input.

I think both are similar, just the HTC one costs $20 while the one ---Alex--- got can be found for $4 in some stores. Do you really need 2.5 mic?
The HTC one is having some troubles, cuz when I asked HTC about it they said they haven't even tested it themselves. I guess only UK has made a few samples which is why the expansys expected date keeps 'slipping' and is always about 3-4wks away...

So, both multifunction cables support 3.5mm input with mic, while all others (incl. the single miniUSB-to-3.5mm) do not support a full headset with mic, right?

Getting either multifunction cable should be fine for a 3.5mm headset?

I received mine in less than 10 days, The Netherlands. However, it depends on customs as well. Once a large parcel was in the custom area for more than 2 weeks.

how is the audio quality from this cable? Will the audio coming from the car be in full stero with bass?

I bought one of the Car cradles for the HTC Touch, which has a mic jack on it. When i hooked it into my cars stero it sounded horrible... was mono sound i think and no bass at all.

I was cheap, and also angered at HTC for not including a miniUSB -> 3.5/2.5mm adapter with the purchase of the device, so what I did was I modified the crap quality headphones that came with it, cut off the buds, and soldered the wires to a normal 3.5 mm cable so i could listen to it in my car.

The only trouble is that I can't charge and listen at the same time, So I guess I'll have to get one of these adapters.

I was even more pissed when I purchased a motorola miniUSB -> 2.5mm stereo and found it incompatible with HTC's miniUSB pinout. Guess I should have researched that before I bought it, oh well. Another thing that blows is that all the local stores only carry the motorola adapter, and not the HTC one. Figures.

II hate ordering things tho, cause they take so long to get here.. so I just said F it and cut/soldered so I could listen in my car with the AUX input in my dashboard until the one I just ordered comes :).

http://la.gg/upl/modified.jpg

BTW, I wasn't impressed with the design of the HTC or PDAir one, so I checked on google and ultimately came upon this one:

I just ordered it from http://www.semsons.com/2miusband3st.html

Hopefully it will come in a few days. Will update post with review of it once I receive it :).

All HTC devices have the same mini USB pinout (AFAIK -- I'm 99.9% sure of thise).
It has a bunch of HTC devices listed on the page, so I figure it will in fact work with the TC.

Also, the fact that the page says "Not compatible with Motorola Phones" is also indicitave that it will work for ALL HTC products.
I know this becuase I bought the motorola one at RadioShack and it did not work with the TC.
I researched it and found that the Motorola miniUSB pinout is in fact a little different than HTC's.

I will report back as soon as I get it.
The total price was somewhere around $8 and I'm scheduled to get it sometime next week before friday.

I like the design of that one because there is no cord; it just snaps right into the usb slot and doesn't "dangle" from the device.

Also, to answer your question about the audio quality...
My home made one works 100% perfectly in my car.
The quality is amazing. I have a 6 speaker Bose system in my car too :-P
So if the quality was bad, I would definately be able to tell.

Go semsons & co!

Almost forgot, confirmed this work son the touch cruise, and also my old 6700..so it's like I said, i'm still pretty much positive that all HTC phones have the same mini-usb pinout.

A little off topic...but I was thinking about this today

My car has a bluetooth handsfree system, but obviously it only works for calls.

Does anyone know of a car radio \ system that has A2DP also?
...If so, that basically eliminates any need for a cable or adapter, besides the charger itself, unless you want to drain the battery :P.

I've searched and have come up with a couple different ones...but I'm unsure if any of them are good or not.

Hi!

Today I will get delivered my new car, luckily it is without an original stereo. I bought a Sony MEX-BT2600 (~130€ in Austria) which includes BT Handsfree (built in Mic) and capable of receiving BT Audio Streaming.

I will post the next days if it works (I'm still not sure if that Sony and the TC can connect and use the BT protocol in the correct way :-) ....)

Finally here is me resume about Touch Cruise and the Sony MEX BT2600...

The stereo itself has a built in mic in the front panel, supports hands free and bluetooth audio streaming.
Pairing both devices was no problem at all.
The handsfree quality is fine as long as you consider that this is not an external mic, you are able to answer/close a call by pushing the volume button no matter what you are listening right now. When your source is BT Phone (this is phone mode only) you can initiate voice dial by pushing this button.
There was no problem until now that both devices connect after you left the car (for example).

BT Audio Streaming works genious! Sound should be fine, no comment on that from my side as I have a new car and a new stereo and I have to find best audio settings....
You can control track fwd/back and pause/play using the stereo.

Unfortunately it has a problem when you use audio streaming and a call coms in. You are able to use the handsfree function for approx. 10 to 15 seconds than it happens that you can't hear the other person nor the person can hear you.
When you switch off BT and go to another music source and switch on BT again the handsfree function works without any problem again.

But I think this radio is fine for that price, I should not complain. My primary idea was to have an integrated hands free without having to install an external mic (which will give you for sure a better quality).

This bluetooth stuff is off topic, but I figured I'd add my input since I love Bluetooth accessories and hate wires. I've shopped many, many bluetooth headphones and adapters. One of my findings is that Sony doesn't have the best A2DP processing (its not bad, its just OK).

Like you surgex, I have a really nice bose system in my car which I don't feel like switching out, so I plan to just use an adapter. The ones that caught my eye are:

Parrot MK6100 and Parrot MK6000

Motorola T605 (I've had below mediocre results with other/older Moto A2DP products, but this one is available locally at Best Buy and is dirt cheap on eBay... so I may test it out via Best Buy and if I like it purchase it on eBay)

IO-Playhttp://www.my-io.com/Products/iOPLAY.aspx Would match the interior of my car the best, but isn't readily available in the US. But I really want this one.

The BURYCC9050 http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wireless/store/productaccessory.asp?productid=22120 cool, but too bulky and I prefer using my TC screen if I'm going to mount something on my winshield.

FYI, with MS VoiceCommand installed on the TC, you can easily start programs, control windows media player (even to the point of asking what song is playing, or queing up only a certain genre, or artist) and of course call people all via Bluetooth voice dialing.

Let me warn you about that thing. I used it for about 4-6 months before I started noticing strange behavior. My phone started dailing people that were on top of the list of last dailed numbers, and it started doing voice recordings at the same time! My girlfriend got really annoyed :D so I stopped using it.
It appears the wires in the cable part shortcircuited and started this weird behavior.
I fixed it by rewiring the whole thing, but that took some work and made it much more vulnerable :) (although it was fun to do)

That's why I am looking for the YC A200...

I need to know if either will allow you to put a straight 3.5mm Stereo jack for sound system AND a (standard 2.5 or mini usb) lead for the purpose of microphone?

EG - will it output to the 3.5mm soundsystem and input from the plugged in alternative headset at the same time?

This is very much likely to be "Alternator Whine" coming from the power supply in your car. This CAN be cleaned, but I don'tyet know how to... you will need to check with Audio buffs for this. I am certain that it is a common and fixable problem.

I'm still struggling to get my setup working. I'm also trying to connect higher quality external microphone into 3.5mm jack and headphones into 2.5mm one. But, it's not working. I think my mic is too power hungry for that adapter (1.5-10V plug in power in specs).
I wrote to HTC customer support but as of today no reply.
Does anyone know what specs should the external microphone have to be able to work with YC A200?
Is it possible to solder the mic and earphones (I use only one so it can be mono) to 3 line 3.5mm jack and get it to work?
This has started to drive me crazy since I use my PPC for speech therapy which could be so much easier with this wired setup than my work - no work current bluetooth one.

Bump on this question...anyone know?

I think i understand what you are asking,
I have the rounded (half moon) device in my car and have all 3 outputs connected.

The 3.5" Jack goes straight to my stereo via a tape cassette converter,
The Mini USB is used to power the device,
The HTC USB is connected to a HTC headphones including mic... I snipped the head phones off to its just a Mic now.... This is routed and clipped to my clock set pin on the instruments panel in my golf.

Works a treat... Although you sometimes have to turn the stereo down a little as callers complain they can hear themselves.

Hope that helps

I just got my YC A200 in the mail today (from here (http://www.tiltdepot.com/htc-multifunction-audio-adapter/12A45A4401.htm)) and I plugged in the 2.5mm headset that I had from my Wizard and it is only playing out of the right speaker. This really sucks cause often I need the stereo when making calls in order to be able to hear well. Plus, with this headset I could potentially switch seamlessly between calls and music, which I can't do with 3.5mm headphones (no mic). I just tested on a call. I also noted that the button on my old headset does not work.

On the bright side, the 3.5mm jack works and it sounds pretty good. :D

Has anyone else used the 2.5mm jack with a stereo/mic headset? Maybe I just need to get a different one?

Note: I'm using this on a Kaiser/Tilt

I have the square one and just tested. I can use 3.5mm headphones simultaneously with 2.5mm headset. Person hears the mic from the 2.5mm but I hear them through the 3.5mm. I might do what you did and cut the headphones off the 2.5mm version.

@Paws... if you're still reading... this setup might work for you if you can find a 2.5mm mic that you're happy with. If I understand correctly I'm sort of thinking along the lines you are... get a PC headset with dual 3.5mm and try to fit them together into a single 4 pin (3-line) 3.5mm jack. Maybe you could get an adapter to do this. Have you made any progress with your setup?

It would be awesome if HTC support could provide a pinout diagram for this adapter like the ones here (http://pinouts.ru/connector/4_pin_3.5mm_2.5mm_plug_connector.shtml).

The mic seems to be coming from the phone, ie the cable doesn't switch it off, so I've found the canle fine for handsfree driving.

KiwiDoc - Have the same problem with my 2.5mm. I don't have a 3.5mm with mic atm, but here's my guess based on our experiences. The adapter probably only supports 3-pin (2-line) jacks. Therefore you can have stereo audio OR mic + mono audio, but not both. Can anybody confirm this? I don't want to take my adapter apart. One workaround is to use both jacks at once as I describe above.

Can you just confirm that the 'square one' you refer to is the one that's in the first post. This is exactly what I'm looking to do and this looks like the answer.

I want to use the Active Brodit holder which comes with it's own 3-way connector. Does anyone know if the HTC connector could connect into the Brodit Active holder and still function as described above?

Perhaps it would be a case of taking apart the Active Brodit holder and replacing the 3-way connector with HTC's 5-way connector??

I already have a 3.5mm Mic installed in my car so is there a suitable connector to convert this to a 2.5mm plug? I see there are lots to convert the other way for audio but I can't see for mic.

I got my YC A200 a couple of weeks ago and I can say that the sound quality isn't satisfactory, first of all because it's mono and second.. it sounds weird.

The weird part is that the sound output from my polaris (through the adapter) is a bit different from how the song should sound like. For example I played a rock song and i could clearly hear the song through the car speaker system, but the voice sounded like it was filtered out. When i pull out the adapter from the phone the song sounds like it should.

I tested the AUX input from my car with my laptop and it works great (both stereo and good quality).

I wanted to try it out on android but it seems it doesn't detect the headphones.

I have 3LITE VIII.
