I noticed another bug using the Long press end key... when it is set to "terminate data connection", pressing anf holding the end key doest do anything!!

i asked for classic vew without disabling the sms notifications... when u have SMSAvailable set to 0, receiving an sms will not make a sound or vibrate!

You need to CID unlock your device first with Pof's USPL tool... see first post in this forum ;)

Everything works fine, just that the memory level is pretty low in old Elf.

Only 18MB left. Could be very difficult to run some applications like browser or GPS related apps.

Where is the contact manager app ? i can't see it in the program directory and now i have modified the 2 soft keys, i can't open contact manager.

Other question, i saw that it was a possibility to disable threaded SMS, with a modification in the regitrery, but, this modification hide SMS/MMS from messaging option and there is no notification anymore to say if we have received a SMS.

Fantasic rom much thanks for it have been playing around witha couple of hours now and I really like.

Still I seem to have one annoying problem that I can't seem to resolve. Whenever I press the power button to go in suspend my screen backlight is turned of while I can still use the device, I can hear it when I tap a button. The real problem is that when I press the power button again my device doesn't turn its screen back on I have to press the camera button to reactivate the backligt. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this.

That could be explaining why every 5 reset the phone would simply no longer boot (Switch off after the first splash) ???
Could that have somthing to do with the SPL ?
Because I have to revert back to 1,11 but since my device doesn't display the right Memory settings

Hi there, I had the same issue right after flashing this ROM. I solved it by Hard Reset then don't do anything after reboot but setup your Connection Start --> Setting --> Connection --> Connection Setup
Then go back to the Today screen --> weather --> select your city --> update. The city data will be saved to the Advanced Config automatically.
If you set everything up first before selecting your city and update weather -- the Advanced Config which inside the Accessories doesn't have any info of the weather and your city code ....... so it can't download any data for your city.

Notice that in your ROM creation, there is an app - tray launch (By PHM).

I have search the site, and and check your ROM, in order to link up the shortcut with icons, you need 2 files.
1. ctlpnl.exe
2. cplmain.cpl

If assuming it fine without the missing file, do you have any guide how to create a shortcut with icon?

All the shortcuts that i have created looks like a folder.

I had the same problem, it related to the Brightness/Volume function of WkTask. I had increased them to the max (Being a bit deaf and blind:D)

If you can put them back to the mid position and adjust the brightness from the normal Start>Settings>System>backlight, it should return to normal.

I think the problem is that the phone stays on SPL 1.
Giving the wrong memory information to the ROM
Reboots all the time until it won't simply start.
I had the same problem and solved it by installing a the original HTC ELFin Rom which reset my SPL to 2.20 and runs fine.

In my opinion (but i could be wrong) it would be better if the rom builders reset the SPL to 2.20 when the rom is installed (you will have to cidunlock everytime and they will have to make separated ELF and Elfin roms).

Then again some people seem to be running it just fine! (elf or elfin?)
For the moment I can't use this rom (shame) but I'm someone will come up with a solution!

The USPL 1.x works fine on an Elf, but it sounds like you have an ElfIN phone? Run the CID unlock after step 2 don't go to step 3 (flashing SPL), but run the rom update.

You can recieve files, you need to turn beam recieve on from the connections tab in settings, then it should work (note this is not the same as the one in the comm manager)

Here is how to do it for ELFin
Get the CIDUnlock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320155
Read the instructions and follow this steps (mine)

- Do as it's said in the instructions until you get to the end of phase 2 (when your screen is grey BUT DON'T REBOOT)
You may get a screen with a pingouin on it... don't worry just reset and start over.

When you are at you grey screen close the command window and simply launch the ROMUpdateUtility in the Shadow folder.

Follow instructions... the rom should upload (no indications on PDA only on PC)
After a couple of minutes you device will reboot and that's it

My Elfin is currently dead.

I upgrated from shadow 2.0 to shadow 2.1. The device started ok then synced ok and after 3-4 minutes it restarted. Since then i can not get it to start. When i press the power button i get until the smart mobility (first) screen and the it turn off and stays off.

Here is how to do it for ELFin
Get the CIDUnlock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320155
Read the instructions and follow this steps (mine)

- Do as it's said in the instructions until you get to the end of phase 2 (when your screen is grey BUT DON'T REBOOT)
You may get a screen with a pingouin on it... don't worry just reset and start over.

When you are at you grey screen close the command window and simply launch the ROMUpdateUtility in the Shadow folder.

Follow instructions... the rom should upload (no indications on PDA only on PC)
After a couple of minutes you device will reboot and that's it

Flash the dopodasia rom first, then cid unlock and try another flash of the shadow 2.1 rom. I´m sure it will work again!! Good luck. ;)

I did the same yesterday. It's because this ROM doesn't have a newer SPL in it. You need to use the top sticky in the forum, there's a link to the original DOPOD rom - see if you can get into bootloader mode (reset with camera button held) and flash it. If you can't get into bootloader mode, follow the sticky's instructions to use mtty.exe to get into bootloader mode.

I then think that you should avoid updating a ROM unless it has a newer SPL included, otherwise this issue will reoccur.

Ever since the Shadow 2.0, the ROM pack only comes with its own RUU files, I was using SwiftBlade (and I have to admit that his ROM pack is more intuitive) Blue ROM, I simply copy over the Blue ROM files pack and rename some files and you can simply do a one-shot USPL + RUU for the Shadow.
2.0 and 2.1 works fine for my Touch v2 (128/256)

Sorry I haven't got that working, my usual method for transferring files is via the cable, and Storage Reader, and since I use a Mac that seems to be the best method. That said, my daughter picked hers up (she as a 64mb running Elves 5.0 and she started sending files without even thinking, using Bluetooth Explorer I think - typical of a 12 year old - will talk to her about it tomorrow, find out how she did it, if she can remember -)

After a Hard reset, I installed all my apps again constantly checking if the weather was still updated. I repeated this 2 or three times, with one difference the last time I didn't run the advanced config tool...so looks like a bug in that app to me.

It´s a known problem. Flash back to one of the original rom like the dopod asia which is listed one page before and reflash shadiow rom. That should solve your problem.

I know exactly what you mean... it's supposed to be an arrow pointing right to 'More'. I think it's because this ROM doesn't use the same font supplied with OEM ROM's, so the system is just using whatever symbol is in the place where the arrow should be, if that makes sense? :confused:

I've had issues with Advanced Config as well. My weather was set in the today plugin... and working fine for three days. Installed apps, un-installed apps - still worked fine... opened Advanced Config and changed nothing - then weather doesn't update anymore - for any location! Hard reset cleared mine up and it's working properly again now. I've removed the link to the affending application so I can't start it accidentally. Definitely seems to be related to that application :confused:

Have you CID unlocked your device first, using Pof's USPL? See sticky posts at top of this forum... if you've already done this, go through the unlock steps again to make sure it's completed properly. Failure to complete the CID unlocking is the biggest reason why ROM's won't install :)

I concur...I had the same issue the past few days, and I do want my weather..so I reverted back to the latest T-Mobile rom untill this is fixed. And I am not happy to revert to a bloated rom since the other functions I use work great (and faster) in this rom.

Can anyone shed any light on this weather issue? I've checked in my registry settings for anything obviously, but without knowing what I'm looking for it's pretty pointless.

I have found one thing though, within the registry, all the information about the current weather, and the next four days is there... high / low temperature, current temperature, current day, upcoming days temperatures, etc. It seems to be retrieving the information, but cannot display it in the plugin for some reason. Anyone else having this issue?? :confused:

I did a Hard-Reset, then i configured the weather module and took à look in the registry.
I wrote the key and values in a file on my DesktopPC and i have restored with a save my touch, a save where the weather module isn't working.

I think you're right. If you look at my post above, I checked registry settings also, and the information is there, it's just not being show in the weather plugin for some reason. I re-checked this a minute ago. When I tap update weather, my device connects to GPRS to do the update, but the plugin still says "Can't update info.... blah, blah, blah". However, the registry settings show the updated weather information.

This gets stranger by the minute :confused: Does anyone understand what's going on here? Surely, it has to be the Home plugin itself??

For the weather problem, I have found the cause!

When I just flash the Rom, I can update the weather by ActiveSync without any problem. Then I have set up the internet connection (thru Bluetooth connection to another phone), then the weather update will fail to work.
I am sure my internet connection is fine, as I can browse web pages and online with MSN.

Even I remove the internect connection setting, connect the Elfin with AciveSync again, the weather still failed to update.:mad:

So , it should be a bug related to GPRS setting ??

I also have the same weather problem as (i think) everybody else.
But when I enter the location code and name (from accuweather.com) directly into the registry and soft-reset, it updates fine.
If I press update again it states "cound't receive info for your location ... bla bla" but I just press update again. and voila there is the updated info....

I somethimes have to press "update" 3 or 4 times but then it shows the right info...

So i think it's not any app or setting problem it's just the weather plugin that is crappy, it has the info only it doesn't display it right.

Yes thats true but the reg keys where there with the fresh install.
I think the reg keys should be empty on a fresh install.

They should be made empty before the rom is cooked, and then you don't have this problem.

I found a workaround that works flawlessly for me:

Disable HTCHome (Settings -> Today )
Open regedit en delete all key's in:
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Weather
and
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Weather\Settings

now both keys are completely empty you should have:
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Weather (empty)
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Weather\Forecast0 (empty)
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Weather\Settings (empty)

close regeditor

enable HTCHome, on todayscreen goto weather tab and select your city.
It now should update only sets temp. in F not in C.

again open regeditor and add dword value to:
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Weather\Settings
DWORDNAME: Celsius VALUE: 1

and thats it, it should work!! Please comment if in trouble..

In this wicked ROM you are able to modify the Comm Manager's entries.
Great... thing is kind of liked the original 6 buttons look.
Unfortunatly there are not present in the ROM, so when you change the settings to 6 buttons you get the exit button but the screen has no active areas.

Does anyone know how how could activate the buttons and where I could get the orginal buttons graphics?

I am facing issues with Shadow TE 2.1

Sms messages not sounding ringtones. (my work depends on SMS)
dialer application hangs. works a bit slower than shadow 2.0

my phone Hangs/becomes unstable if I dont soft reset it once a day.

Shadow 2.0 was working fine. I never had these issues with shadow 2.0

I dont want to use any other roms except Shadow ones from Cloudyfa.

Please give me suggestions other than flashing a new rom (except if shadow 2.2 is made available)

Just running into a small problem and hope someone can help. Successfully flush the ROM and able to boot up upon the 1st restart . Turn off the touch and unable to turn in on till now. It will show the boot up screen and then just turn off and on without the screen. I did try to flush it again but same situation.

CID Unlock done? If not you´ve got a problem. Then unlocking procedure can only be done when Active Sync is connected...

Yes, I have run the CID unlocker and is successful before I flush the ROM.
The bad news is I cannot flush any other ROMs except Elf(in) ShadoW 2.1 TE. If I user any other ROMs, my touch will just turn off after 1%, only Elf(in) ShadoW 2.1 TE can successful complete the flush and restart the touch, but after the ROM log, turns itself off again ... :(

For FTP is use Total Commander (CeCmd)
For the weather you just need to :
- disable HTC Home plugin
- go to the registry (with Cecmd or PHM regedit for example)
go to HKML/Softwares/HTC/HTCHome/weather/settings/ and delete every thing in there
- also delete every thing in the HKML/Softwares/HTC/HTCHome/weather/ exept the settings folder
- Relaunch HTCHome and sync again

Weather updating can be problem of the city you have choosen. Try another one and see if the city datas will be downloaded. The turn back to your previous city.

just an issue that bothers me (other than the weather + sms threading issues but that's been solved... btw i think you should add in the fist post small details about flashing (ie stopping before 3rd step for elfin) and the way to solve these issues everyone seems to be experiencing (ie the weather not updating))

so there goes :
when i miss a call the little phone icon in home displays a (1), but when i click on it, it doesn't redirect to missed calls but to the ones I passed... it should at least redirect to the "all calls'" tab... i was wondering if there was a reg key for that, but i havn't found anything ...any help appreciated :)

Which touch are you using? 128mb-Version or the huge one (256 mb) touch enhanced?

I am using Touch enhanced. I just flush with [WM6.1] Elf(in) ShadoW 2.1 CE and still the same result, after the ROM logo, turns off. I dont know how pda phone works, can it be something like the link after the ROM logo to the OS is broken ... :confused:

lol, I don't really see how come when people undergo such dangerous action (flashing ROM) can ever missed any posts that is accident related, anyhow, there is an ELFin USPL out on the first page anyway, so bricking the ELFin is now a less then none chance in doing so, but anyway.

Sorry, it´s not correct. I was one of the first Touch enhanced owners who tried to flash the touch. I´ve killed 2 of the touches by using the uspl. Both were absolutely bricked, flashing the dopodasia was at that time not a tip, so i´ve changed the touches.

The only ROMs I can successfully flush my touch is Elf_in__ShadoW_2[1].1_TE or Elf_in__ShadoW_2[1].1_CE or the Unofficial CHS Rom 2.24.706.1B. I upgraded to 2.1, and as the prior version, it works perfect, way better than original ROM or others flashable ones from this site (just a few tiny flaws like the slightly noticeable memory leak or that you can't see the counter on sms when you've got more than one application active).

I just want to know if it's possible to delete the voice mail icon and his message (I don't have voice mail, but I keep receiving messages of 'New Voice Mail Message' that bother me and it's a problem of my operator).

- Install the 2 cab file (you should know which two I am referring to)
- Then Use the USPL (1.11 one) up to the blank screen
- hold camera and reset while keep holding the camera until you see tri-color screen
- keep usb connect and run the DOPODASIA
- all back to normal

You shouldn´t reset after the touch is in white screen. ´Cause the white screen show you that the unlocked spl is LOADED, not flashed. So, leave the touch in the white screen, abort step three and start flashing the rom by using it´s own .exe . After that it should be successfully flashed including reflashing the correct spl-version.

I don´t know what you should do. I only know that a good chance bringing your touch back to life is to flash the correct dopodasia version. In that version flashing the right spl is included so that your touch should run again like a charm. Otherwise a specialist can give you some other tips... :o

hello I've been using this rom for a few weeks and I've been having some stability issues (weather bug was fixed with registry edit thanx guys)
the shadow 2.1 has been crashing and bugging out on me so I've got some things to report and a few work arounds:

by far the buggiest peice of software is the large start menu, if you enable menu animations and use the LSM the system freezes every time. Disabling the LSM (in settings\system) actualy reduced my crash restarts by 1/3rd and allowed me to use menu animations.

also

using the s9 A2dp at times causes my elfin to regularly crash after 20 minutes of music play

finaly:

airplane mode will cause the a2dp to stop functioning if it is EVER enabled... reflashing or using something like sprite backup allows a2dp to work properly again.

not sure if there is anything else I can do to improve stability right now it's working %87 of the time

but i can't stand software dial pad on the elfin... is there a way to make the number pads larger and more sensitive to pressure?
all and all this is a great rom please continue the work

Hi Lox-tt, I am actually using the ELFIN Update SPL (USPL) to unlock my ELFIN. According to the thread, I can run all the 3 steps, please advise.
The interesting part is after I flush the ROM, the window mobile did load at the first time, only after I turn off the ELFIN then it efuse to continue after the ROM logo. I suppose by using the ELFIN Update SPL (USPL), I won't see a white screen and should complete all the 3 steps and the go into the Tri color and flush the ROM, am I saying the right thing?

I don´t know which are the right steps to unlock and flash with the Elfin USPL. My advices are by using the unlocker for elf, which uses the 1.xx version.

3- it has a bug with htc weather download, but there is the fix in this thread.

i used remote dektop connection, and the process wpctsc.exe (terminal service client) stay in memory. It uses 1.98m of ram, and i can't kill it, although i use quick menu and short press X to close tasks.

There is a handy application called PIM backup. It stores your contacts, calender, SMS messages, call history and e-mail to the storage card.

Most of the ROM's on this forum have PIM backup already built in for convenient restore.

Your storage card will remain unaffected through the flashing process.

If you have never flashed a ROM, you need to unlock your phone.

Please read the sticky topics about flashing and unlocking before you start, just to be sure what you are doing. Flashing is very easy if you first do some reading about it and it can mess up your phone if you just blindly go ahead and do it.

There is a handy application called PIM backup. It stores your contacts, calender, SMS messages, call history and e-mail to the storage card.

Most of the ROM's on this forum have PIM backup already built in for convenient restore.

Your storage card will remain unaffected through the flashing process.

If you have never flashed a ROM, you need to unlock your phone.

Please read the sticky topics about flashing and unlocking before you start, just to be sure what you are doing. Flashing is very easy if you first do some reading about it and it can mess up your phone if you just blindly go ahead and do it.

These ROM's are for Elf and Elfin devices only!

Sprint Touch (Vogue) and HTC Touch (Elf/Elfin) are not the same! They only look the same but that is where the similarity ends.

You can't use any of these ROM's on Vogue, it has a different hardware.

Sprint Touch uses CMDA800 and CDMA1900 network instead of GSM network.

Sprint Touch has Qualcomm MSM7500 chipset instead of Texas Instruments OMAP 850 found on Elf. The CPU is also slightly different CPU's.
Sprint runs on 400 MHz compared to Elf's 200 MHz clock...

It sounds like bricking it if you try to flash an Elf ROM to it...

I had that problem to, happend only using IGo. TomTom has no issues what so-ever. Never touched IGo since.

Anyone else having problems using EDGE/GPRS on this ROM? I flashed it twice but still having the same problem. EDGE works when browsing in Internet Explorer but the weather does not update, and Windows Live Messenger does not sign in either.

Hi guys,

I've recently upgraded from Magician to ELFin (128/256 version), and after reading about the advantages of WM6.1 I've decided to give it a try and flash the ShadoW2.1TE ROM.

I've flashed the ROM on my Magician before, but I don't remember it being nearly as complicated, so as a newbie I just wanted to confirm the steps that I take before I go ahead and do it ... can you guys let me know if any of these steps doesn't look right, or if I'm missing something?

1-Unlock CID
- My Elfin has IPL and SPL V2, so I'm planning to use djvw's USPL v2 to unlock the CID
- To unlock, I'd first copy Cert_SPCS and EnableRapi on to the device, run them, and soft reset the device
- Then with the device active-sync connected to the PC, I'd run elfin-uspl.exe from the PC, and follow all 3 steps (unlike the other USPL where ELFin's have to stop at step 2, I believe djvw's USPLv2 is designed for ELFin and you run all 3 steps)
- After the program finishes successfully, I'll have a white screen, and I'll proceed to flashing the ROM?

2-Flashing ROM
- This is where it gets a little blurry for me ... I believe I have to first put the ELFin in bootloader mode, and disable USB connection from Activesync, and connect the device to the PC?
- With the ELFin in bootloaded mode and USB (but not activesync) connected to the PC, I just run the ShadoW 2.1 .exe file from the PC and it will take care of the flashing?
- Once it's finished, I just reset the device and it now carries the ShadoW2.1 WM6.1 ROM?

Is that correct? Anything I missed? Anything I should be careful of?


Also, I plan to upgrade the radio firmware. Current I have 3.07.90, and I believe the lastest, stable radio is 3.08.90? How do I do that? Do I have to CID unlock the phone again before I upgrade? Or do I just transfer a .cab to the phone and run it?

Hi all,

I've successfully flashed ShadoW2.1TE, and it went smoother than I thought. I had to CID unlock twice (stupid penguin popped up first time) but other than that, it went pretty smooth.

As far as Shadow2.1TE goes, I like it. I never spent much time with the OEM ROM @ WM6.0, but I do think WM6.1 is faster and more stable.

That said, Shadow2.1TE has some programs that i don't use like ...
- WkTask, because I lose the clock in the taskbar, and I prefer MagicButton
- Voicedialer, becuase I use MS Voice Commander
- ClearTemp and Hibernate, because I use memmaid

But 3 programs isn't too bad, especially when I have the ELFin with more memory. It is a huge improvement over the OEM ROM already.

I also ran into a few quirks, which may be ShadowTE ROM related.
- Speed dial doesn't work. I can't setup any digit (except for 1, which is default for voicemail) for speed dial.
- There are some problems with SIP's. Everytime I try to change the SIP, the device freezes for ~ 15 - 20 sec before I get the pop up menu bar to choose which SIP to change it to. First time it happened I thought the phone's hang.

And then I also had some stability issues, which may or may not be related to the ROM because I've been installing softwares and tweaking the registries, so it could be the s/w or registry changes, but the last few days my phone has frozen up easily (like 2-3 times a day) and takes forever to start up after reset. Half the times the phone would freeze after a reset too.

So I've been thinking of re-flashing the ROM and starting from scratch. I've thought about flashing the ShadowCE, which I heard is more stable and faster, but the green theme really kills me. I can change the theme, but the task bar and title bar would remain green ... sorry, but the green is a deal breaker for me.

I also thought about Noonski's WM6.09 ROM cos it's pretty clean ... but it has some issues (like screen alignment) that need workarounds and make it difficult for newbies.

The BlueElves has many preloaded programs which I don't use ... so it's not for me.

I may end up reflashing the ShadoW2.1TE again ... any suggestions?

First of all, I really like this rom. I upgraded from Shadow 2.0 which was great as well. But now with 2.1 I have WiFi problems. With 2.0 everything was fine but now I have a very bad connection. Most of the times I can't update weather and surfing like this is totally out of the question. Does anyone have the same or know a solution? Could upgrading radio rom help? I upgraded to a newer (but still quite old) one but it didn't help.

It turns out I had to set power mode to "Best performance" in the Wireless Lan settings. That's odd, since even at a few centimeters away from the router it won't work with the other settings. With best performance it works great everywhere.

ah yes so many unnecessary questions so little time, first off:
you may seek the search function in the forums
...there's a good chance is your problems aren't special
and neither are you

when flashing STOP at the end of step 2

if you experience stability issues or active sync annoyances disable the advanced network functionality in the settings/connections/USB to pc
(trust me you won't need it)

to enable menu animations first go to settings/system/large start menu and disable...reset... enable menu animations... reset... and DONE

do you have wifi related problems? get detailed... who else is on the wifi network? weather can be fixed by doing a registry edit... search for it

and read up on it all
