thanks for the file pal, but I'm a little bit confused... how am I supposed to flash the phone with this file? with the lg tools we need a dz file, or the mbn files. How do I use these ones?

need to spend time for combining of .dz (and possible knowledge of any possible structures) ... or read forum about itsutils ... i'm have no device for tests, (only captured image from one that was in ine hands) but itsutils must help ...

sorry to dissapoint you,, I'm not that expert... just experienced with ks20 flashing,,,, anyway, waiting for an english rom to flash with the LGMDP tool...

Hi I have English version of the KS20 here. Could someone post instructions on how I could extract the ROM rom the device. I have LGMDP_1_1_.5 but I am not sure whether it is capable to backup the rom.

I've red a tutorial about flashing htc kaiser, and it sais that ks20 is identical, and the flashing procedure is the same using, kaiserkitchen,,,, i've done all the steps, except flasing, cuz feared of bricking my phone... :confused:

so, if device have flashing mode before it's started up (call from bootloader /via finger combination/) and then flash firmware from sd card or via USB , then can try without risk, if device flashing mode can be called only after full booting - then bricking risk persist ...

or second variant is to combine firmware in their own standart format ...

so you're saying can i try flashing part02.raw with pdocwrite in flash mode (emergency mode for ks20 if it's the same) without worrying bricking it?

I;ve come o the point where I was able to dump my existing rom, and then, if i'm not wrong, i can use the same command to flash the other one, using pdocwrite like this:

pdocwrite -w -d DSK1: -p Part02 -b 0x800 Part02.raw

when i hit enter, it says: ERROR ITWriteDisk - The media is write protected.

thanx for this soft, but it does not work for me...LDMDP recognize my phone, my LG Corona drivers are correct installed but this soft is always searching for USB Devices and do nothing after pressing "apply jobs" button with new IMEI writed...Could U post step-by-step instructions for us?
One more question, how could I repair my BlueTooth address to correctly recongize this part in LDMDP soft?

I dont think this application use lg corona driver, so the only possible way how to use it is to rewrite it..

yes i know, I'm using itsutils with activesync,,,, i can dump the rom from my phone, but cannot flash it, and there is not too much to read about it. on the wiki, the only think written about pdocwrite is that it is the oposite of pdocread... :confused:

maybe the phone is cid locked, but if it is, I wouldn't be able to dump the rom too, wright?

I'me getting frustrated, cuz there is already an english version of the phone, but there are only these 3 raw files (i've serched almost all over the net). The phone is great, but I'm stuck with the italian version, wich is the only one I can understand, but it's too buggy. The french one I used for some days was great, version 10f. How did you guys build the dz file of the other languages, and why there is no english dz, so we can just plug the corona drivers and flash it....?

wel... english rom is here, but it's in raw format, which is the only one we can extract. but nobody knows how to make a dz file out of these files....

Sometimes I just think there is someone who doesn't want to make these files available. there are a lot of requests for the english roms, and even though there are so many languages, english is not here. we can extract, but not write. Seems that dz files come directly from LG. if they got the files from LG, how come they didn't get the english one...???? there is the extractor, there is the unlocker, there is the imei, bluetooth address and many other things you can change,,, and nobody knows how to put a file in a rom, where you can so easily dump it...??? Maybe there are a lot of guys like me who simply want ta make changes, and share some knowedge, but seems like some others just don't want to,,,,,,

i already enable USB DIAG function and USB composite function.I installed LG Corona driver and my WinXP detect the device as LG Corona Composite USB Device.However when i launch LGMDP_EURO.exe or any LGMDP the select port window just blank which mean it's not detected.FYI im using LG KS20 on firmware 10c english.Im from Malaysia btw

I already found that my KS20 connected to COM5 so i add port in LGMDP 3G.However the state is Enable, phone is NO PHONE and model is NONE.How am i going to do anything

The only key I could find is the one called ""SDHC", which is loaded by a dll called ""msm7500_sdhc.dll", and has a dword value 1 on "CardWriteProtectedState". There is also a key called MSFlash, wich has an Prefix=DSK, wich is the name of the disks wised to extract the RAW files, in this case DSK1 for rom, and DSK2 for SD card, but in here, there are no valyes named WriteProtected or similar....... so I'm a little bit confused...
Also I want to point out that using pdocread I can extract the RAW files, but only with activesync. Using the corona drivers it is useless... so flashing the files in emergency mode is not an option, as activesync don't work there.
I will try to change some vallues, and tell you, but don't count too much on it...

try to change your PC, sometimes the CoronaDrivers just don't want to work. THis happened to many people. Get a new PC with XP SP2 if possible, and fresh install all the drivers...

for the People who have english rom and want to share, I thanyou alot, but at the time nobody knows how to make dz files out of their devices... so please be patient and keep visiting for a solution...

Private Note: : I live in albania, and here, there is not even a law who says you can't unlock the phones, and in every cell shop you can unlock them. I can do mine in english today if I want to, commercially, but I've bought the phone, so why do I have to spend more money to get it like I wanted to be.... They sey they can do it with the service box, but if i can get english by paying money, why not get it like i got the italian, the frenche, the greek and so on, freee.......?????

there is in page 25 or above a link for a tool where you can put an imei number on the phone. your imei is written in your battery pack, or in the box. you should have at least the battery... write it in the program and youre done.

have you changed the pc since your last post? or at least the usb port where you plugged the phone... try flashing the phone in emergency mode, or change the pc if you have not done it... if it fails with all these options, try a different cable if you can find one... otherwise, it may be faulty...

changing the pc normally will do the job... I have a useless pc, but it was my last hope when I bricked my phone, after failing to flash in my notebook... and now the phone works ok after flashing it...

- no it does not have to be in emergency mode, and if I remember well, it should not be
- yes, corona drivers is ok...
- no the language doesn't matter, I've used it with french and italian
- the original cable is the right one

follow the instruction at the first page till the soft reset:

How to:

-instal driver and application.

At device:
-enter this code to dialpad: 2676625720#
-engeneering menu will show.
-press:
Port Setting → 1. Diag Setting → 1. USB Set for Diag → “OK” → “Back”.
(Port Setting → 1. Diag Setting →) 2. USB Switching → “LG Composite -DUN, DIAG”.
-press Done and reset your device.

this sets your usb port as a composite usb port.

if you've made a NV backup (LGMDP does it as default), try uploading this file and if it does not work then use the imei tool...

maybe after flashing your device, it returned to default settings, I can't remember if this is right, but you can run the LGMDP software. if this recognizes the phone that's allright... if all this fails, try changing PC... A fresh one could be better as there are no drivers conflicts... I'm not a pro, but I've flashed my ks20 three times. And no one was like the other. First the German got stuck with OTP block and thanks to emergency mode flashed it to french. Then now i'm in Italian. French was a good version, but couldn't understand it. Italian is ok, but waiting for english. good luck

When I press "Diag Setting" on the secret menu I get an error message "Diag Setting can be applied in only "Ship" OS Image. Please make sure it. Setting is valid after reset". Any idea why I get this ?

I was installing an update to the LGMENU.exe which someone had posted, this cause the KS20 to freeze on restarts, so i couldnt enter the "2676625720#" code. So i flashed from emergency mode without a backup.
Obviously by imei number got deleted. so i cant make calls etc

so, downloaded the imei tool by "the new" same sp2 computer which completed the flash.
The "LG3G by the new".exe just says "searching for usb devices" when i try to update my imei number.

mardinli i can help you with the nv2 file! but first of all did you searched your LG DMP directories? in LGMDP_EURO you should have a directory with numbers! do you have it? maybe the program made a nv2 backup! search for it! if not send me a pm! ok? chears :D :) dont worry everything will be ok

I summarize my case, I bought my KS20 from eBay (declared as defect by the seller) thinking I could repair it ( the KS20 does not cease rebooting after powered on, just showing the LG LOGO, no way to power off with the POWER button but taking away battery). I reflashed it in emergency mode successfully with v10b DEU, but the same thing ! I suspect that I am in the same case as "lost nv2" (??) so, is there any way to get an nv2 file from anyone pls , so I can save my KS20 ? Thank you in advance for your help !

It is finally done!

I have successfully KS20 my phone from the German v10b version to the v10e geflasht (Vodafone Ger).
Without Verlusst the IMEI!
First, the French image and raised. Nv2 uploaded.
Then the image v10e uploaded with "Erase EFS and behold, it works! ;)

Who has simply ask pm! he gladly try to explain it again!

Ich habe Erfolgreich mein Handy KS20 von der Deutschen v10b Version auf die v10e geflasht (Vodafone Ger).
Ohne Verlusst der IMEI!
Zuerst das französische Image aufgespielt und die .nv2 hochgeladen.
Danach das v10e Image hochgeladen mit "Erase EFS" und siehe da, es funktioniert!!! ;)

Wer fragen hat einfach pm! er versuche gerne es nochmals zu erklären!

Hello Koke80,

it looks like you had choosen the option "Erase EFS", when you made your Firmware-Update. The LGMDP-Updater automatically makes an Update in his folder - do you still have this backup (.nv2-File)?

If not, then you have to send it to the LG Support.

Same problem as U. Flashed with new ROM and deleted by stupid misteke NV2 folder. So in 1 month Im searching for alternative solution on the web. Find QPST solution to change phone IMEI, I did it but last 15th digit not responding with my box IMEI and there is no solution to change it because this last digit is calculated by phone. So is there any solution to resolve this problem of many people I saw on the forums? I have no network and could not make any phone calls...Holding KS20 phone as Radio and MP3 player is very funny for 400 bucks :-)

I see there are a lot of flashed KS20 out there. But I still belong to the class that cannot connect to the KS20 via the successfully installed Corona USB drivers (ver1.0.0). The diagnostic interface is on COM8 and I tried the modem on COM2 and COM5. But neither the modem can be queried nor the LGMDP 1.5 build 12.10 gets access to the phone.

I tried it on 2 computers with varied COM-settings, to no avail, googling and searching the forum either. I have no more ideas but asking for HELP. :)

I got the same problem here, i bought a KS20 from HongKong with Traditional Chinese rom, and trying to do a backup of my rom and my .nv2 file but unfortunately the two computers that i tried both cannot recognised my phone in LGMDP, the program can found the com port that my phone connected to, but just under "phone" and "model" it shown "no phone" and "none" respectively

i try all versions of LGMDP (Euro, H3G, Open, US) but still not working

yes it's real ... but how to conver to .dz while seems noone knew (but i'm not interested ...) only can say - anybody of you must do that from .raw files, as in future you will want customze firmware or make updates to new builds .. and for that mainly will needed tools from that resource ... and you need to know how modified firmware possible to flash back ... so anybody must be interested in that and make comparisions/encodings/other tests for getting flashable frmware without risk ...
don;t think .dz will have same structura as only one part ... check for compressions/reversible encodings ... and when from .dz you will get .nb0/.raw structure - then you also will be able make reverse operations to .dz ...

if you not trust - can check inside that .raw - all procedures how to extract that dump and how to make back .raw/.nb0 persist here on that resource ...

Sorry to make you misunderstood me, i trust you but i was just wondering that Rom is a Dump Rom or an Original Rom from LG. Now, refer to what you said, it is a dump rom, but i am new with PDA phone and known nothing about compilation of own Rom, i dun really understand what you said.

Would you mind to point me a direction with some posts regarding to things like standart procedure of dumping rom from wm device, procedures how to extract that dump and how to make back .raw/.nb0, and also how to make own firmware compilations, so i can start to learn with these?

Also, normally the other KS20 Roms that exist in the internet are in .dz format but why yours one is in .raw format? is it because or different dumping process or what?

First of all, hard reset your ks20 (just press 3 buttons together for 10sec: volume down, call button and power button... till the LED become blue,green,red)

then import this file into the registry of your ks20

.dz format contain encrypted .mbn files ... while was not seen no tool for creating that, so - which formats is also possible to flash (except .dz) and link example for it ... so explore, try registry hacks listed on forum, search nearby information for ways of flashing, as i'm can't do anything as no additional data and i'm not accept risk with other peoples phones ...

-instal driver and application.

At device:
-enter this code to dialpad: 2676625720#
-engeneering menu will show.
-press:
Port Setting → 1. Diag Setting → 1. USB Set for Diag → “OK” → “Back”.
(Port Setting → 1. Diag Setting →) 2. USB Switching → “LG Composite -DUN, DIAG”.
-press Done and reset your device.

this sets your usb port as a composite usb port.


-Connect device at usb port and run application.
-click at "Select port" - dialog will appear, check if state is "Enable" otherwise there is something wrong with your connection. Hit connect.

-dialog will appear where you can select which parts of rom you want to flash, navigate by browse button to desired parts.

-click start, confirmation dialog will appear select yes/no

-dialog will appear if you want backup nv data, its highly recomended to do that! you can avoid many problems,
backup nv2 with lgmdp when phone is on
-phone than will go to emergency mode and start download rom parts from pc to your phone, if everything goes well you will see "Download complete" at corner of diag box, reset your phone and enjoy new rom


trubleshooting
-if something fails dont panic, you can boot device in emergency mode and try to reflash again.
emergency mode: make sure usb is pluged, turn off device and press "send" and "browser" button

-it's highly recomended to not keep your personal settings - set NV backup/restore to "Reset database & Contents"

-hardreset before flash is good choice

I understand why it's so important to backup NV Settings - but I think I'm not able to backup correctly.

These are my steps

1. I opened up LGMD

2. went to Tools->NV Backup

watch for the col. "Phone" and "Model" where it says "No Phone" and "NONE"
Is this a normal behaviour?

The Fields "Model", "Compiled Date" and "Release Date" are empty. "IMEI", "Bluetooth Addr" and "Cal Date" are set to "NOT_ACTIVE______". Why?

5. After backing up I got a file called "NV_NONE_NOT_ACTIVE______-XXXXXX.nv2" (where XXXXXX is a number that changes everytime I try to back up).
The file itself contains NO specific informations about my cell phone, just the Strings "LGNV NONE" and "LGMDP 1.5 Build 12.11 Feb 15 200". The rest of the file is filled up with 0 Bytes.



II.) I think I've got an unbranded FW (that's what they told me, when I bought the phone), but how do I know for sure? Where to identify whether I got a branded or unbranded FW?
As I understood, I should be able to flash my unbranded FW with another unbranded FW without problems, right? (without using the french 10b in the first)

III.) I downloaded a german 10f (from this Thread http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=513378). But the file name says "KS20-00-V10a-262-XX-FEB-26-2008+0.dz" - is it a fake?

I better tell you, what I've done:

Windows XP sp2
LG KS20 - FW 10a German (unbranded - think so)

1. Downloaded LGCoronalUSBDriver and LGMDP 1.5 (12.11) - installed both
2. Changed the Settings in the Engineer Menu (Diag Setings -> USB Set for Diag, USB Switching -> LG Composite - Dun, DIAG
3. Rebooted the phone
4. Changed the registry settings and rebooted again
5. Even rebooted the PC

Still got the same problems while trying to back up nv settings.
Is this an issue concerning the unbranded 10.a version of my FW?

Hey guys

I have an SFR KS20 and I recently flashed it to an unbranded ROM.

I got the 'illegal use' ' OTP block' message, so I thought I would try to reflash using the Erase EFS option.............

However I cannot get the phone to emergency flash - I have tried a fresh XP machine - I can install the Corona driver but when I connect the phone in emergency mode - the 'Found New Hardware Wizard' stalls at the second stage where it is trying to install the drivers for the modem (I think)

So severely stuck over here, what should I try??

I believe it's a mistaken version 10a-file, erroniously advertised as 10f. As far as I have seen, 10a is unlocked and unbranded.

No explanation, just hopeful suggestions
- check for the "LGE Corona USB Serial Port(COM xx)" in your device manager (any exclamation marks? :) )
- recheck DIAG-entries in KS20 registry (any typos?)
- don't start in LGMDP with NV-Backup, but with Download->SelectPort, marking the entry and clicking "connect"

I get "KS20" and the "Rom version" immediatly on "select port".

However I have no idea how to do a registry change, so google will have to be my friend for the next hour.... problem is I can't get into the phone.
I had a French SFR which i flashed with a czech unlocked O2 rom

can't get past the OTP block in normal mode, and can't get flash in emergency mode - I get a "security error" which stops the flash as soon as it starts

I guess the only upsides are that I can connect to the phone with LGMDP and I have my original .nv2 file

I am going to try flashing all the french SFR roms now, any other suggestions?

I have (had) the KS20 without branding in version 10a german.
Unfortunatly I thought it might be better to update it to version 10e with vodafone branding. :mad:
I flashed the phone in emergency-mode and got the OTP-block-error.
So I flashed it again and selected "erase...". :eek:
From this time on the software works but I can't phone (often described here in forum).

Now I want to use thr prog by "the new" to unlock my phone again (my last chance?!). The phone is currently flashed to the french version and I changed the settings in engineer-menu how described. But I get no connection with the USB-port (Serching for USB ...). Using the LGMDP there is no problem to connect...

What can I do???

btw: if the prog would work, which checkbox(es) have I to mark. Should I enter my IMEI-number which is written at the back of my akku? Only the first six numbers?

Wollte dann die ROM auf v10e vodafone updaten. Plötzlich hatte ich diesen OTP-Block-error. Also hab ich das Handy erneut geflasht und "erase..." aktiviert. Seitdem kann ich nicht mehr telefonieren.

Jetzt ist meine letzte Hoffnung dieses Programm. Habe das Handy mittlerweile auf die französische version geflasht und bereits alle einstellungen im engineer-menu vorgenommen. Trotzdem bekomme ich keine Verbindung hin (Serching for USB ...). Bei LGMDP wird das Handy aber komischerweise erkannt.

Was kann ich tun?

the problem here is that we know how to dump the image from the phone, but it's not in the format supported by the flashing tools... nobody knows how to make a .dz or mbn file du flash the phone with LGMDP... so if anyone can do it, plz tell us....

Here is what's working at the moment :
- Extract mbn and flash.bin files from the DZ file : see here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=399249)
- Extract partitions (boot, xip and imgfs) from the Flash.bin file : see here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2310043#post2310043) (this part is not 100% working, but you can extract most of the system files)

The next step will be to reassemble all this stuff in a Flash.bin file, it will then be possible to cook roms.

with the tool you made to stract the files inside flash.bin, you get 3 files. The last on is the image, exactly the same as PART02.RAW you get when you dump it with pdocread....

What I'm asking is... can you make a tool to integrate the PART02.RAW (which) anybode can extract from their phone, and create a new Flash.bin, then flash the phone, and maybe it could work??????

Even the other 2 files are the same... at least most of them, some chars change but maybe cuz they are from different phones. I have 3 english RAW files which ara available at this forum, and after using your tools, I could extract these three files from an Italian dz image I had. only difference is that using pdocread you get .raw files, and with your tool, you get .bin files, which is the only difference. Can you get to enclose these file again in FLASH.bin, and use it to flash?

On last thing, all you guys are talking about how to flash the unbranded roms... I have changed three languages till today on my ks20, all branded with different operators. None of them had any problems, and I didn't even notice my phone was branded. only thing was to delete the default mms and other configs, and the phone was like new. Why bother trying to work with unbranded phones, if they get you all these headaces?

You're right, I never said that using only part02 is enough... I'm aware that the other 2 files are used to store partition info, and they should be used alltogether. I was just pointing the need of a reverse tool to pack all together again.

Just a question, do you think that dumping the rom with ImgFS Tools and modifying it, then pack it all together will work? (for cooking roms)

Yes must works ... only one moment also must be checked :
many of qualcomm firmware packages was signed with rsa2048 key ...
so here is chance to fail in flash procedure ... 2 ways:
- one check of signing code done before flashing - alert - device is in normal state
- check after flashing - result bricked device
other chance is firmware itself can be used without signing - that best case - any rom can be developed

third - if sign code only must persist and can be inserted for checking - that can be done also (self made private key and signing of firmware with it)

mainly for all winmobiles slightly differ procedure ... but all of them is possible to reconstruct, ks20 use the same wm ... possible in qualcomm based devices also persist combination as on most of intel/marvell pxa based devices for flashin from memory cards ... that will be as recovery procedure for dead devices ...
also must persist possibility to flash only needed parts of rom (think .dz format and flashing tool allow that, only need to make tests - create minimal flashing file flash.bin + possible signing code ...) also many of devices allow to upgrade only needed part of flash (for exaple don't touch bootloader - think must be also that function here)
anybody can also do explorations of hot keys combinations on device boot ... may be that enters device in flashing mode and waits for start sending flash over usb or waiting for memory card insertting and persistence on it any type of file that will directly flashing ... /mainly that procedure of finding is not harmful ... on that screen simple do reset for going tio normal mode/
combination may be such as "power+joy right+left soft key+reset" can try to find ... so if that will be known ... posiible will be found unbrick procedure and that will be better choice for flashing...
but firstly do full backup of your device ... (and not forget about .nv /or .nv2/ that contain imei, and other significant informations of device)

After that the phone should restart automatically...

I've seen the otp block too, and in my experience, I've avoided it in this way:

1: hard reset the phone before flashing, as this will not cause errors of configuration with the new rom
2: choose the option "Erase EFS" in the flash program...

by doing this, you will not have the "OTP Block" anymore... At least I never had this problem anymore, and I've flashed my phone many times, including the english version

The only problem is that you cannot make the registry changes described before in the english-french version rom, so you cannot restore nv... This can only be done with branded roms

Believe it or not, all these phones are exactly the same internally!

START FROM HERE:

IMEI:

Turn the Phone Off, disconnect it from the PC, turn it on, re-connect it to the PC.
Go Start -> (All) Programs -> QPST -> QPST Configuration.

Click on the PORTS tab.
If your phone is NOT listed... Click the ADD NEW PORT button in the lower right...
From the list of ports in the box on the left, click the entry that says COMxx - QC/Diag modem and click OK.

you will be brought back to the main QPST Configuration program displaying the "ports tab" this time with your phone listed as SURF6280 in the phone column...

You are now ready to make use of QPST and its features.

Use the Start Client pull down, click on Service Programming. Make sure your phone is selected, and click OK.

Click READ FROM PHONE button in the lower left.

for the Service Programming code... use 000000 (should be filled in that way anyway).. and click OK...

After it reads the data in... go to the IMEI section on the first tab(NAS).

TAC is the first 6 digits of your IMEI, FAC is the next 2, SNR is the next 6.

The 15th digit of the IMEI is calculated by your phone, DO NOT enter the 15th digit.


Click on WRITE TO PHONE button in lower left.



This can take 1 minute, be patient!

Wait for the read from file button become clickable again or simply wait 5 minute then Go to connection---close.



Power the phone off, wait a few seconds.. then back on.

IMEI Restored.


Bluetooth Address:

Since you upgraded the phone, you already have the usb drivers.
Now, launch the QPST configurator.
Click on "add new port"
Type the port number your phone is using now. (you put it COM5, COM10, etc, its just one example) -----------------If you already added your port in QPST then skip this.

Now, launch the NV editor, maximize the window.
on connect, select the com port, and press connect server.
press the file button and select upload all from mobile
Then, press the search button, and type "447"
Move the file to the "selected" window.
Once you double click it, in another window you will see loads of firlds with 0
Change the to 1, all of them.
also, change the string value to "true"
Now, you press the "file" button and press "download selected & active to mobile"
Disconnect the server, close the program, unplug the phone, and restart the phone.
Now, try to enable the bluetooth.

Remember, once you do the 6th image step, you go to connection and select disconnect server.

No it's not 10g, seams to be Version 10c in English for Asian Market.

This ROM should be for LGE ESA region, English version, Wifi is fine, but the N/W profile is only for Singapore, India... etc

In conclusion, it is an Unbranded English rom

The only issue left is the restoration of .nv2 file:
Does it support Windiag, which is needed in order to connect to LGMDP for restoring .nv2?

After flashing, the port settings and windiag can be set, and the phone is visible to all tools,,, but now I will try to unlock without restoring NV. Maybe the IMEI 0000... cannot be used, so I'll try changing nly the IMEI

I bought it on the street, so can't tell. it was greek, but I flashed it (maybe the greek rom can help to make a nv backup??? ). now that I remember, It is greek, branded with vodafone, Now I found the manual, and it is all greek. Never used it before :-p. Do you think I can use it to flash the phone and then get the NV file from that,,,?

Yes wifi was working... Was, because I flashed it again temporarely, and currently downloading DZ-KS20-00-V10c-ESA-XX-FEB-19-2008_0.zip. This I;ve not tried yet... after download finishes, will flash, and update you again...

dont know about gps thing. I know it supports it, but with external antenna, but never interested. I live in albania, and there are no road maps for me,,, so the gps is useless here

They want to use the rom : KS20-00-V10f-208-XX-MAR-05-2008+0
French unbranded rom.

Flash is successfull but same problem with OTP block error (NV2 file from branded rom 1.0b doesn't help)

It is because the Branded .dz file is actually acting as a shell for the Unbranded rom. If the size of Branded .dz rom is smaller, problems may arise.

Lets make some suppositions...

I have a french rom with mbn files.
I could extract the mbn files out oth the english dz rom...
replace french Flash.bin with the english version

You think this could work? or need I to go further with flash.bin and extract the dump folder, then rebuild it again? French flash.bin is smth like 2mb bigger than the english one...

Another question is the fact that the method used by peng8 who created an english+french rom, exxcept the wifi problem, NV2 file could not be restored neither... the only difference was that his rom didn't accept windiag.reg settings, so it could not get to connect to the LGMP. Can this rom accept the NV file, as this rom (the original unbranded english) at least supports nv restoring procedures....

You are right,,, Flash.pin contains some other parts, wich are relevant to the nv2. We need to extract it all at both files, then exchange only the dump folder, then rebuild the french flash.bin with the english dump...

Ok,,, editing as a lot of things happened... First the bad news:

1: No WiFi
2: No MMS

Edit,,, SMS is, OK, my fault...

Calling is Ok,,, nv restored and network was found. Bluetooth Ok too....

Also the toolbar at the bottom doesn't show up. The original english rom had it, and it had wireless, mms and everything else (before restoring NV which gave the otp block error....)

Don't know what to blame, the French rom, or the peng8 method....???

Try
1. Power off your KS20 by holding "Power"
2. Press and hold "Send" + "Browser"
3. Then press "Power" (without holding, just 1 press like u turn on the phone) while you are still press holding "Send" + "Browser"

This should bring you to emergency mode
Then plugin your USB

Btw, you dun necessary to flash your phone in emergency mode, you can simply flash in normal mode
Emergency mode is only useful if your KS20 is bricked and can't turn on to normal mode.
Even you start your flash in normal mode, it is actually flash in emergency mode

Steps in normal mode:
1. LGMDP will backup your .nv2
2. LGMDP will then switch your phone into emergency mode automatically then flash
3. LGMDP will then restore back your .nv2

In emergency mode you should take off the battery... I've noticed that when the battery is in the phone, it doesn't go in emergency mode...

IMEI:

Turn the Phone Off, disconnect it from the PC, turn it on, re-connect it to the PC.
Go Start -> (All) Programs -> QPST -> QPST Configuration.

Click on the PORTS tab.
If your phone is NOT listed... Click the ADD NEW PORT button in the lower right...
From the list of ports in the box on the left, click the entry that says COMxx - QC/Diag modem and click OK.

I used the ESA Rom before but now I have flash the HK Rom 3 day ago since I need the HK network setting. As I find that the ESA Rom is responded faster & more stable than HK Rom (I installed the same software in these two different Roms ) You guy may try both these Roms to see the difference.

You'd better try some undelete tools, like EASEUS Data Recovery... if you can undelete the nv2 file it could make it easier...

WindowsXP did not recognize COMM PORTS when I plug-in the KS20 in Emergency Mode, so LG_EURO could not connect to the phone....any ideas?

Action 2 is not possible, here is the explanation:
2 Phone having the same IMEI using the same operator is not possible, Telecom Company will log down the handset IMEI together with the SIM IMSI for any usage. "A" handset turn on with IMEI#1 and with IMSI#1, make some calls, if "B" handset turn on with IMEI#1 and with IMSI#2, the Telecom Company will ONLY send signal (Calls in) to "B" Handset. The worst case is if the telecom company found there are duplication of IMEI, they might bar this IMEI from logging in to the Network.

If i were you, i will try the Option 1, that's LG Service center, first.

Option 2, two phone sharing 1 .nv2 file is possible, but both will have some IMEI no. and this will cause the problem that "dcoloane" mentioned in above, you can avoid it by:

1. Phone-1 use Operator-1; Phone-2 use Operator-2
OR
2. Try use QPST to edit back the original IMEI after you restore the .nv2 file from another KS20

Anyways, beware you lose the 2nd .nv2 from your 2nd KS20 if you are going to buy 1.

Just go up straight to LG Service Center claiming that your phone wont open...of course you have to flash it again with some error happening.

Connect your phone via Emergency Mode, use LGDM and reflash unBranded CHT / ENG (HK) ROM

Because you haven't restore your .nv2 file

Connect your ks20 with LGMDP as the same way you did before flashing, and restore your own .nv2 file
If LGMDP say can't find any .nv2 file, while you really got one, try rename the folder, which is originally named to your IMEI, to 000000-00-000000


I have my .nv2 from when I flashed an unbranded czech rom into an SFR ks20.

When I rename the folder containing the .nv2 as all 00000's and then put this into an Nvbackup folder [first generated by another doing a .nv2 backup of the phone (which has no .nv2) to establish the correct folder structure for LGMDP to find it when it does an .nv2 restore]
the .nv2 restore starts and then timeouts.

What to try next please help

I need a step by step for the windiag stuff but I can't seem to connect to the phone at all using a registry edit programme.

Further troubles are that because of the unbranded flash to a branded I get the OTP block illegal use message when booting up the phone.

So when I try to emergency flash an SFR rom, i have tried 10b(trad) and 10f(dz), I get the security mode message.

I tried a hybrid ROM SFR 10f/HKG 10c flash as well and still got the message.

So I think I need to start with the .nv2?

I will try obviously a clean XP machine next as well just bringing the .nv2 file with me.....
Should I keep its containing folder to 00000's or should it be named how it was originally? Except I didn't keep a record of the original containing folder name.. how does it correspond to the IMEI?

Anyway as you can see I am searching and trying, if you have an insights please help, I will keep bashing away

Are you sure your phone is Unbranded? As up til now i only see the illegal use msg appear when a Branded KS20 flash to Unbranded rom.

Have you ever restore .nv2 after flash?

Have you ever tried to unlock your phone using lg_.exe?

Rename the .nv2 folder to 000000-00-000000 is only necessary when your IMEI in KS20 become 000000-00-000000
As LGMDP would only look for .nv2 which is in the folder named as the current IMEI on KS20
If you want to rename back to it's original name, it is your original IMEI no. without the 15th digit
Also, folder that named as KS20's IMEI no. shouldn't place in nvbackup folder

The folder structure should be like:
c:/LGMDP/000000-00-000000(or your original IMEI no)/_COM_?_/xxxxxx.nv2
c:/LGMDP/NvBackup/xxxxxxx.nv2

If you can select the .nv2 that you want to restore but just timeout during the restoration process, i think is your windiag setting problem, try install windiag_open.cab in the link above
Make sure in "Select Port" of "LGMDP", under "Phone" and "Model" it show "KS20-00-V10....." and "KS20"

As raykisi pointed out, your situation seems a little strange... The OTP Block seem to appear in two situations:

1. At boot
Why: cuz you didn't choose "Erase EFS" when flashing, so old configs do conflict with current rom
Solution: reflash in emergency mode, this does the job from scratch

2. When flashing unbranded rom (not our "hybrid") over branded, and then restoring branded rom's nv2
Why: This is what gave us headaches for many time, when trying to flash unbranded roms
Solution: Use the "hybrid" roms, instead of the original unbranded ones, or make one yoursels (look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405945)

You can also restore NV2 file manually, without having to change folder names.
1. Flash your phone with a branded or with an "hybrid" rom in emergency mode
2. after booting, if everything looks ok, configure you phone and also install Windiag_open.cab, and connect to LGMP.
3. After connecting with LGMP, do things as you wehre flashing mbn files, but uncheck everything, and check only the last one, which says smth like "original NV", or similar, and browse for your NV2 file... Flash the phone... make sure you unchecked everything except the last one.
4. afte restoring NV2, restart the phone, and use "lg_.exe" to unlock the phone...

Steps 3&4 are not necessary when you have an unbranded rom on your phone, and it works correctly. But in you case, I think you should reflash from scratch to eliminate unknown variables which make give problems...

This is what I've done several times, and it didn't fail even once... So do this as I say, and if you get stuck in one of the steps, tell us, and lets see if we can help in more detailed steps....

To make things a little longer, but just to bee sure things are done as they should be, do these steps first with a branded rom, then after that try to flash the "hybrid" rom again, doing things the same way...

If you restore the NV2 and it gives the OTP block, than you should have done smth wrong. If it tells you the sim is locked, and this is after you restore the NV2, than you just need to unlock the phone...

For the wireless router thing, what crashes, the router pr the phone?

Well i really dont if it unbranded or not because when i got it from ebay the complete box is in english everything plus the ks20 came in english too maybe it was not me but the guy i brought from buy it for LG direcly i think and that is has No CARRIER logo anywhere not in the box not in phone and it was in english, and i use it like 3 day after i try to flash it for try to repair the WIFI problem and Gapi for Point Ui etc.. and now i got this problem. BUT anyway thank you i will give it a try what you told me and if you can give me a link for the branded rom you recomend THANK YOU AGAIN

What I'm telling you, is that if you had an unbranded phone, and it seems from what you are saying that you did, that you should not use branded or hybrid roms, bot you can use the original roms. get the link from my previous post. That's the original english, unmodified... use that to flash...

Why you still want an unbranded hybrid clean ROM? The official Unbranded rom is clean enough.
The exist of hybrid rom is only for those Branded KS20, as they can't flash Unbranded rom directly, otherwise OTP will result. Thus, we modify the Unbranded rom into hybrid to make it work in Branded KS20 with no OTP block problem.
So, if you own an Unbranded KS20 you should be happy with that, as you can flash Official English rom with no modification need, since that Official English rom only exist in Unbranded version in the world, there is no official Branded english rom

my ks20 is unbrand (sfr but no logo in bootup)
but after the flashing with your hybrid , i have no problem with otpblock or any thing and it was unlocked !!!!

Glad the phone worked... The problem with your wireless router is that I've never heard smth like this. But I know that wireless routers are sometimes (too many times in my opinion) really tricky. What kind of router do you have? Cheap routers are not a good choice. Wireless is still a complex technology, and only a few brands do them like they should be done, like cisco and linksys.... That's why I said before to change it... I've used my phone with linksys and asus routers, and all worked fine...

i have the 2wire modem official FROM my telephone company but it strange men because phone detect the wireless , it also say put wep key i insert it and when it try to connect i chek my modem and it is a reboot state, i'm thinking of trying maybe in WIFI HOT SPOT , cafe,baskin robins and see what happend i try to check every thing from Certifications , ips, dns, authentication. Really i have never seen this in a phone or wifi device

I think it is just the problem with your router more than your KS20, it's good if you can check this out with WIFI HOT SPOT , cafe, baskin robins to make sure this, or you can even try it in your fd home if they do have wireless router.

Like a 512MB USB drive will never shows 512MB in computer but may be about 500MB

Your approach is good, maybe it could be a universal solution for restorin nv2 files. But there is one drawback. We have to give people a totally new way to backup and restore nv file. This is useless, as nv file can be restored on the phones with LGMP, which is easier to use, and the process is pretty simple.
The only way you cannot restore NV2 file in the phone is when you backed it up from an unbranded phone, and then restore it on the hybrid rom. but this is a paradox, as many people who have unbranded phones, can restore it on the branded rom, or the original unbranded ones. They have no need to use the hybrid roms... So there is no point at this.
As I said before, QPST is somehow a complicated tool, and not evereone can use it comfortly...
Anyway, this is another way to do the same thing, and it's better to know then don't.... So thnx for sharing your idea...

I guess the explanation as follow:

Our KS20 comes with 256MB ROM + 128MB RAM = 384MB in total

FLASH ROM Size=56MB
Extracted ROM Size (Expanded and installed)=138MB

Remaining=190MB

Free Storage=110MB
Free RAM=80MB
Total=190MB

While WM6 boots up, it consumes 45MB RAM

This is just a guess

As we all know Lg ks 20 and htc kaiser use the same processor. Is it possible to use the gps driver from Kaiser in order to enable the gps reveiver (if there is an antena) for the Lg? The idea is based on the fact that the Kaiser users use our video driver to improve their video performace. Maybe we can also use their driver to enable the gps.

The registry location of the gps driver of the Kaiser is:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver]

I think that the driver is the "QualComm GpsOne Card". You can view some registry values for the gps of the Kaiser here:

I think that what we need is descpribed below:



In fact, most QGPS implementations, including the SiRF-III and the Kaiser's Qualcomm have 4 layers of software to make the whole thing work.

The first being the GPS channel driver itself obviously. The second is an GPS intermediate driver, which is somewhat a managed com port driver.

The third - the most important one - being a QGPS service (in Kaiser) / a helper background process (in SiRF-III) running in the background to actually use the downloaded quick gps ephemeris/almanac data to calculate satellite positions, and then upload it to the GPS chip. It is indeed contrary to popular believe that you upload the whole QGPS file to the GPS chip and let it do all the computation. This is actually quite impossible given the processing power of such a small chip and very limited memory. The data crunching must be done with a processing unit running off the chip, i.e. on the host device. In a SiRF-III implementation, the real-time ephemeris/almanac data obtained by the GPS are actually being written back to the QGPS data file, presumably in an attempt to preserve the most updated data in a data store

There is problem with flashing LG KS20.
One important thing is backup .nv2 file.
I can't make it.
I installed drivers LG Corona USB driver (but my computer found only 3 new devices, not 4, how it was described above).
On LG I made all instructions described above (hard reset, switch USB port to diag, turn USB port to LG composite mode, install windiag_open.cab, soft reset device).
When I'm starting LGMDP_1_1_.5_Build_12.11_Release (EURO) and trying connect, I see "No Phone" and so on.
I tried it twice on different computers and installed even EnableRapi.cab on LG with no success.
There is no such file windiag.dll in /WINDOWS on my LG KS20.
I downloaded and copied windiag.dll (_http://rapidshare.com/files/100897836/windiag.dll.html) to \WINDOWS on mobile,
then I sets such registry keys:

Thanks for answer, but I've only one cable, shipped in the box with LG KS20.
There is one moment. I tried backup .nv2 in emergency mode and in this case LGMDP shows phone model "KS20 emergency mode", but can't backup nv2.
Then I think the cable works OK.
May be You know: Is it good idea - backup nv over nvedit program, then after a flashing restore nv again with nvedit?

The "windiag.dll" is a hidden file in /WINDOWS that's why you can't find it, but it actually exist.
After installing windiag_open.cab and soft reset device, have you checked if these two lines did exist in registry?

"Dll" = "windiag.dll"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\WINDIAG\Setting s]
"Enable" = dword:1

If it did exist, it is probably the problem with your cable or computers.

Could anyone tell me If you have bought any new battery for this LG?
I've seen some sites selling a 1800 Mah battery, instead og the 800 that comes standard....which by the way is probably the greatest mistake made by LG!
I bought thinking of using it also as a MP3 player...and doing so...with 100% battery at 7H00 AM...it will drain out before 15h00...8h working without the screen on or whatsoever!!! Almost no calls...and 3 or 4 text messages!

1. Of course, I checked the registry entries. It was how you described (first time I did'nt even install the cab, I sets these keys by phm regedit, and second time after installation windiag_open.cab checked these keys again).
2. I searched windiag.dll by Resco Explorer with disabled options "Hide files in ROM" and "Hide hiden files" then finally when I copied windiag.dll to \windows directory it was'nt a promt to overwrite the file.
3. I tried 2 separately computers.

I'm very tired with this LG KS20. 3rd computer with no success. No Phone, None. I think problem is with serial port. Can someone query modem in LG composite mode. If I try query the modem, I get a message, that modem not response, may be serial port settings is wrong.

i got vodafone V10b unlocked german and been trying to flash it to english with the hk files but i keep getting trying to connect to phone what am i doing wrong i follow the steps that are explained

im just a newie myself but yes you need lg_.exe to get your code from the phone. this will sim unlock your phone. but if ya not sure wait for an expert to answer (grin) :D

Yes, com port it shows "Enable" and shows the port number, No phone, None. If I try backup NV via such comport:
1. A computer shows IMEI and Bluetoth address NOT_ACTIVE.
2. After I press the button "NV backup!" in few seconds it shows "Error! Can'nt connect serial port! Please restart and reconnect device." And after that a computer shows com port "Disable" and in a folder with program there is a folder NV_BACKUP with a file xxxxxxx.nv2 with size 333 bytes. After plugging-off usb cable from a computer then plugging-in to a computer it shows again com port "Enable", but of course "No Phone" and model "None".
I think problem is with device. I can't find windiag.dll in \WINDOWS.
Could You chek hiden files and files in ROM on your device and find this file? I think this file is there only on LG device and works like a driver for mounting com port inside the device for transfering information from the phone part to a computer. May be my problem is in this file.

If after restoring NV you get OTP Block, than you should have a branded phone. It can connect with other sim cards just because it is unlocked... Try the hybrid rom... maybe it could work...

Try flashing a branded rom, choose one randomly, or at least with a language you can understand some words... and if that works, try to backup the nv2 file of that rom, and flash again the english hybrid rom... maybe this can help...

Hi there! I'm new here so I have few questions. Does this new English HK 10a fixes issue with Direct draw so IGO and other applications can work? Anyway I was trying to flash this new ROM and did everything like described at first post in this topic, I did hard reset too before all of this, but at the point after I browse to image folder and then click START, and then YES in next confirmation dialog I get message: Error! Security mode. What I'm doing wrong here? In that window it shows just model: KS20, and compiled/released date, IMEI, Bluetooth address, cal date, current address it's all blank/empty. Thanks in advance!!! I forgot to tell that current ROM version on my phone is V10b, as well as bootloader and modem firmware and ROM date is 2008-3-7 if this can help somehow!

Hi dorik, i need your help to flash my ks20.

First of all i would like to ask you one questione. I can i do to use the ks20 as modem to connect on internet with my laptom.
I have do the changing in engeneearing menu and after e soft reset i have installed the lg corona than the new modem was installed correctly to may laptop but when i imposted the remote connection vodafone the laptom reply to me with this message errore "the modem cannot respond" why for you?

In second i would ask you more help to procedure to flash new rom on my ks20. I have made the backup with lgmdp euro correctly and the sire is 116kb.
But at this point i dont know how to continue. The flash.bin that i have downloaded is already that of the english because i have found only one of this flash.bin and i presumed that is of the english rom. Do you confirm?

After i have made the backup how to i continue?

And afeter the flash what i have to do over the restore nv2?

Please halp me in italian language so I am not wrong.

I had exactly the same problem, you have to change your registry and/or try in a different computer (I had to do both). Search this thread and you'll find the answer.

i have finally done it with version 10a. i am not sure if it has anything to do with my 10e GER rom (did not even able to get to "today") or may be i did it wrong the first time...

anyway, i have flashed the 10a rom from normal mode of 10b rom (but not yet restored nv file).
it works perfect but "no phone". then i used the method of "clear all" and NV dauft to restore my old nv file (it was made from 10b) and it is done!!

When flashing, you have to choose Erase EFS option,,, as this will prevent conflict with old configurations,,, It's a select box on the lowerleft corner of the flashing window....

Anyway, you have to flesh in emergency mode now, as you cannot switch on the phone... Hope you have the NV2 backup...
