When flashing, you have to choose Erase EFS option,,, as this will prevent conflict with old configurations,,, It's a select box on the lowerleft corner of the flashing window....

Anyway, you have to flesh in emergency mode now, as you cannot switch on the phone... Hope you have the NV2 backup...


i have done "erease EFS" everytime, also but still did not able to get it done before.
as i said before, i am now 10a english rom working really nice, but still do not know how i have done it.

coz the 10e GER never works on my ks20 before too.

I had exactly the same problem, you have to change your registry and/or try in a different computer (I had to do both). Search this thread and you'll find the answer.

My experience of LG KS20 following:
1. There are some ROM's that can't backup .nv2. Those ROM's do'nt contain first of all the file windiag.dll in \WINDOWS directory on a device. But a copying this file in directory is'nt enough. LGMDP shows anyway "No Phone". It was such ROM:

Factory version

After reflashing my device with ROM HK English v10a everything with connection to LGMDP is OK

is mostly false. IMEI is READ_ONLY_S and you can't write IMEI directly. But it's possible to change IMEI if Yo will be follow next instructions;
1.You should have installed on PC QPST and NV Editor.
2. Connect NV Editor via QPST port to a device, read all of nv from mobile, than save it to a file .brt
3.Flash new ROM without restoring .nv2 with option "Erase EFS" enabled.
4. Open in NV Editor the saved .brt file and press Find, enter 550. It wil be IMEI, edit it in the right lower corner of window. You should edit the column Hex Value (IMEI is writted in little indian (from right to left) after the letter A.)
and then connect to the device and after a changing IMEI press download all actieve to mobile.
5.Soft reset device, connect LGDDP and restore .nv2 with the option "Reset darabase&contens" (NOT ERASE EFS!). Iou'll have new IMEI.

To change bluetooth address with this version of NV Editor is'nt possible.

Hi! I am trying to flash my LG KS20 bought from Vodafone GR with the v10g, but for some reason after the backup of .nv2 file is made and the phone has gone to emergency mode (black lcd, green led) the LGMDP program shows this:

The only way to leave this condition is to remove the battery. After that the phone works fine...

I am new to this forum and can say that I have read all your posts with great interest (even though they are all WAY over my head). I have a couple of questions.

I just got my KS20 about a week and half ago. I purchased it as an inlocked phone and it was shipped from Hong Kong. I have T-Mobile USA as my carrier. I love the phone and it works as expected except for 2 areas:

1) I have been on the phone with T-Mobile for hours trying to configure it for internet with no luck. We have tried every configuration possible (except the correct one??). Initially all I got was "“Dialed wap.voicestream.com

Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed tap settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturers’ documentation and try again.”

I have finally gotten rid of that and have now been able to connect to their Edge network but still cannot get a browser to open a url (I have the $5.99 plan). Nor send MMS.

I do find that there are several profiles for Asian carriers under the AutoProfile selections. Is it possible that either this was originally a branded phone and was unlocked by a third party or that LG missed something when they created an "unbranded ROM? Could there be a registry key value that makes the phone still think it is on another carrier?

2) The phone is supposed to have Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP. checking my version I.8.7 build 0900. would some of you please check your phones and let me know if you have v2.0?

any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. And if my questions sound dumb I apologize. I'm just a little old lady from Texas and not too well versed in cell phone ins and outs.

Try flash ur mobile in Emergency mode. take out ur battery, plug in the cable. Connect to ur PC usb port, press send/call button + internet explorer button and hold both button until green light flash.

look i tried to fix it but i cant i made a backup nv2 i flashed the hk english 10a but after the flash it says opt block and the IMEI is different. after that i tried to flash it again in the emergency mode with the erase option. its ok there the phone. but when i restore the backup its says again opt block and sim block.

The English ROM went in smoothly to my old K20, which was a German Vodafone to start with, then a French SFR, then the 10f version of French SFR, and now..... unbranded English without glitches. THANKS!!!

tryed the whole night with no luck .
every time i had a time out when i back up the nv2 file
the last what i did is

1 power off the phone
2 disconnect the usb cable from the phone
3 hold down the send, internet button and pressed the power button
saw a green light coming up ( emergency mode)
4 connect the usb cable and opend lgmdp_euro

and now it is flashing in emergency mode with succes

my lg ks20 is branded with vodafoon with no simlock i think. it sees my t-mobile simcard

OMG....

To backup .nv2 file, u should backup b4 flashing, but not backup after flashing

So the step is:
1. Backup .nv2 file
2. Flash your phone with other rom in normal or emergency mode (normal mode prefer)
3. Restore .nv2 file automatically by LGMDP or manually by choosing ur .nv2 in LGMDP and restore it back to KS20

If you hv any problem about flashing and connecting with LGMDP pls consult my posts, you can find them in my signature

Also, since it sounds like you have flashed your phone without making a .nv2 backup 1st, so you probably has lost your .nv2 file ady and forever, your phone should work like pure pda with no phone functionality now.
Am i rite? Congulation for that!!! this is all due to you flash your phone without read through all information (especially in my posts)
But if you do read in the future, you may be able to find a solution.

then i saw your unlock the lg ks20 topic cause my phone was locked again, downloaded the files , started it and now its working :) still without the back up , coulndt get that working

activesync work only with "Microsoft USBfn" setting in engineering menu (which is default setting)
But LGMPD only work with "LG composite" setting in engineering menu
So you should set the relevant setting for different purpose

You can't backup .nv2 is because either you are too stupid or you computer not working or cable broken.
I think is the 1st reason

Steps:
1. Install "LG Corona USB Driver"
2. Change necessary settings in engineering menu
3. Install "WinDiag_Open.cab"
4. Soft reset your phone
5. Connect your phone to LGMDP

Sorry for spamming with noob problems, but i read through these forums for several days - and I truly admire the work of some of you guys - before laying my hands on my new phone, and i still messed something up and can´t find any answer to my problem...

I followed the instructions to load the unbranded HK rom (the phone is unbranded), everything went well, LGMDP said download was succesful, the phone turned on, I got otp block...

I wanted to get it to emergency mode (send+browser buttons), so i took out the battery, plugged back the usb cable, inserted the battery again, and tried to enter the emergency mode. It didn´t work, so i removed the battery, tried again, removed the cable.. and so on.. and while at the beginning it showed some signs of life (green led, display saying battery is charged), now it doesn´t react at all. It´s just dead, whatever I do to it...

Any ideas..? Thanks a lot!

For OTP block result after flashing, there are two reasons:
1. You didn't check the "Erase EFS" option for flashing
2. Unbranded phone flashed with Branded or Hybrid rom, OR Branded phone flashed with Unbranded rom

So, in order to eliminate the occurrence of Reason 1., you must flash with "Erase EFS" option, if there after still coz you OTP Block or illegal use then it would be due to Reason 2, try flash with another rom

For emergency mode, you hv to turn on emergency mode b4 connecting to USB and connect to USB after, if you connect USB 1st then press the 3 button to emergency you ll never get there

Hi Robotov, no, if you backup your nv2 file beforehand (in LGMDP, Tools > Backup nv2) and then restore it after flashing, your IMEI will not change. If you fail to do that, the flashing will erase the IMEI and you won´t be able to use your phone - unless you manage to do some magic using some instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2248729.

Chartres is right, ppl who lost their imei no. after flashing was because they lost their .nv2 data in the phone which contain their KS20's imei no and also the calibration data for the phone functionality.

So, before any flash job MUST backup your own .nv2 file first. Although i can get you a .nv2 file, it won't be prefect, it will be branded and the last digit would likely to be different

I definately have my backup (the .nv2 file). I asked my question for another reason. Let's say I've flashed a new ROM. The procedure went fine and the phone started working properly. However, after the flashing, I can suddenly have another IMEI number which belongs to a stolen phone, for example. In this case I can have legal problems with my Operator - right?

I would say this is impossible, unless you phone is 2nd hand and the pervious ower lost his .nv2 and flash a .nv2 file which get from another KS20 and sold it to you, or you got another .nv2 file in the LGMDP.exe folder and it automatically restore it to your phone after flashing.

BTW is you new IMEI no. starting from 357323-01-XXXXXX?

Hi, How are you all? I'm new here and have been following this thread. I got through many of the instructions and have flashed my KS20 unbranded from Chinese Rom to English Rom. The only problem I have now is my KS20 is only a PDA and no phone function. I tried checking the IMEI and it was a strange numbers with 0000023000000<0. I guess somewhere along the process, I must of did something wrong. I tried to load the nv2 files and still no phone. I used QPST to edit the IMEI but couldn't edit the last digit. The phone now has 357323-01-xxxxxx-0. My IMEI is 357323-01-xxxxxx-1.
Since my IMEI is wrong, is this the reason why I have NO PHONE?
Is there anything else I missed?
Please help. I would really appreciated.

This is because your LG Corona USB Driver is not install properly in your computer

try it in another computer with vista prefer, because someone on the formu have the same problem as you b4 and he has 3 different copy of xp in 3 computers still got the same problem, finally i ask him to try vista, problem solved

Hi raykisi, thanks for the .NV2 file!!! I uploaded the file and the phone function now works. But now, the phone locked with different Sim. Regardless of the Sim lock, I manage to followed the steps to unlock the phone and now it works like a charm. I flashed my KS20 with English Rom v10a 4-29-2008. THanks again God of KS20. :)

This is due to the LG Corona driver not install in your computer properly, i mean there may be some crash between them, my fd tried 3 computers with 3 different copies of XP got the same problem, but when he tried in Vista, work like a charm.

I dun mean XP must not working, it do work with most ppl
but if you can try it on another computer, then with Vista is preferred
If you dun have other computer, try format your computer and install with a fresh copy of XP or even Vista if you can

I've got a problem when try to connect to the LGMDP (v12.10 or v12.11 also no luck) . The program do recognize my phone , but once I try to connect it , the program said the emergency mode is ready !

When I try to download image/do a NV backup , then it said the serial port error and ask me to restart . Anyone have a clue about it ? Thanks very much !

How to:

-instal driver and application.

At device:
-enter this code to dialpad: 2676625720#
-engeneering menu will show.
-press:
Port Setting → 1. Diag Setting → 1. USB Set for Diag → “OK” → “Back”.
(Port Setting → 1. Diag Setting →) 2. USB Switching → “LG Composite -DUN, DIAG”.
-press Done and reset your device.

this sets your usb port as a composite usb port.


-Connect device at usb port and run application.
-click at "Select port" - dialog will appear, check if state is "Enable" otherwise there is something wrong with your connection. Hit connect.

-dialog will appear where you can select which parts of rom you want to flash, navigate by browse button to desired parts.

-click start, confirmation dialog will appear select yes/no

-dialog will appear if you want backup nv data, do that! or you will have troubles!!!,
backup nv2 with lgmdp when phone is on
-phone then will go to emergency mode and start download rom parts from pc to your phone, if everything goes well you will see "Download complete" at corner of diag box, reset your phone and enjoy new rom

the HK 10a is the latest version right? Will it work with any existing version - ie can you just flash on top or are there issues with different bootloaders (coming from an HTC tytn 2 background).

Hi there.
I flashed the german rom from kiss and everything goes well, but I have the problem that I could not connect to any network provider. my provider is germany ePlus. The problem is the same that I had before flashing the rom. I Did write a new Imei Number but the problem does not change. No connection to any network. and after writing the new Imei I saw that the imei is not correct . the last digit is a "0" but it must be a "2" any ideas or should i now only have a nice pda?

I flashed it again and it works now.

EDIT :BUT NOW THE PHONE GOES OFFLINE WHEN I CONNECT IT WITH USB TO MY PC.AND DOES NOT CHARGE MY BATTERY

I didnt check the EPS erase, so now im getting the illegal use OTP block message.


I'm trying to boot in emergency mode but cant so far, so lets see if im doing it right?

I'm pressing the Call (Left button on the face of the phone) + the browser one (on the right side of the phone between the micro card slot and the camera button?)
Are those the right ones? Since i'm not getting green led, and the phone is booting in normal mode after i press the power button.

It's plugged to the PC via the cable.

What I'm doing wrong?

ok i managed to go throught that, it appears i had to unplug the usb first and then press the buttons

but there is another problem now, right after i click skip on the screen where you set the time, it restarts. And then again and again on the very same place.

i cant restore the nv file in emergency mode and in normal mode it restarts the phone before the process is finished.
I tried with 2 different roms, (the lastest HK one and the english turkey one) the same thing happens with both.

Is there a way to restore the NV in emergency mode?
Any idea why it auto restarts (like few seconds after it starts the screen calibration and setup process)

I've got the same problem too. Trying to communicate with phone then checking for more than half an hour. I click cancel and it says error serial port not found. Almost thought it's game over for my ks20.

How to:

-instal driver and application.

At device:
-enter this code to dialpad: 2676625720#
-engeneering menu will show.
-press:
Port Setting → 1. Diag Setting → 1. USB Set for Diag → “OK” → “Back”.
(Port Setting → 1. Diag Setting →) 2. USB Switching → “LG Composite -DUN, DIAG”.
-press Done and reset your device.

this sets your usb port as a composite usb port.


-Connect device at usb port and run application.
-click at "Select port" - dialog will appear, check if state is "Enable" otherwise there is something wrong with your connection. Hit connect.

-dialog will appear where you can select which parts of rom you want to flash, navigate by browse button to desired parts.

-click start, confirmation dialog will appear select yes/no

-dialog will appear if you want backup nv data, do that! or you will have troubles!!!,
backup nv2 with lgmdp when phone is on
-phone then will go to emergency mode and start download rom parts from pc to your phone, if everything goes well you will see "Download complete" at corner of diag box, reset your phone and enjoy new rom

My LG KS20 restarts (soft-resets) from time to time without me doing it. For example 10 minutes ago, I used WiFi and put it in standby and after some minutes I just saw the LG-boot screen and the "PIN window" later...

I think it has something to do with WiFi, because yesterday evening I tried wifi and it did a reset too.

Any idea what could cause this?

Hello, excuse my pesimo inlges, I am using a translator.
My KS20, is always 100% charged battery, and does not change.
I tried to Falsh, but when it starts, says security error, and nothing more than that.

I had the same problem.
Buy a new battery ;)
This is the only solution - it is a well known issue that original KS20 batteries get fu**ed up - then the phone shows always 100%
But charging should work anyway,...

It is my first post in the KS20 section cause I will receive next days a KS20 I purchased in ebay to a german guy.
So, I am portuguese and I will have in my hands a KS20 unlocked with a german ROM ( I don't know yet if the rom is branded or unbranded.

Since I don't find a portuguese ROM I will flash an english lang. ROM.
From my last readings here I understand that it is diferent to flash a branded or an unbranded ks20.

So, guys, what realy I need to change the german ROM to an English (or portuguese if exists) ROM?
1) the connection app
2) backup the nv2 file that is in the phone

it happen to me quite a few times before i flashed the latest spock's rom. you should do a hard reset everytime before you flash a new rom and check ur usb connection from ur lg to the computer.

I already installed LGCorona, run LGMDP (EURO).
connected my device to computer, and saw connected COM (COM21 in my computer). but can't see my device driver (to backup .nv2)

i've been trying to install wm 6.1 to my ks20 all afternoon but i'm stuck with the lgmdp program. Once he is done with the back up i get a black green on my phone. There is just the little green light that shines and the program stops: "Trying to communicate with phone" When i remove battery and launch him again he continues for a few sec and is in emergency mode and then he stops.

Hello,

Make a hard reset (to restore the original configuration KS-20).

Here are the steps:

Mobile switched off, press and hold down the volume keys (on the left-hand) and drop (green phone) while pressing the power button (on the right edge) and count to 10 (until the LED lighting). Drop everything and wait about 140 seconds the mobile restarts. Your LG KS-20 is now reseted.

Believe it or not, all these phones are exactly the same internally!

START FROM HERE:

IMEI:

Turn the Phone Off, disconnect it from the PC, turn it on, re-connect it to the PC.
Go Start -> (All) Programs -> QPST -> QPST Configuration.

Click on the PORTS tab.
If your phone is NOT listed... Click the ADD NEW PORT button in the lower right...
From the list of ports in the box on the left, click the entry that says COMxx - QC/Diag modem and click OK.

you will be brought back to the main QPST Configuration program displaying the "ports tab" this time with your phone listed as SURF6280 in the phone column...

You are now ready to make use of QPST and its features.

Use the Start Client pull down, click on Service Programming. Make sure your phone is selected, and click OK.

Click READ FROM PHONE button in the lower left.

for the Service Programming code... use 000000 (should be filled in that way anyway).. and click OK...

After it reads the data in... go to the IMEI section on the first tab(NAS).

TAC is the first 6 digits of your IMEI, FAC is the next 2, SNR is the next 6.

The 15th digit of the IMEI is calculated by your phone, DO NOT enter the 15th digit.


Click on WRITE TO PHONE button in lower left.



This can take 1 minute, be patient!

Wait for the read from file button become clickable again or simply wait 5 minute then Go to connection---close.



Power the phone off, wait a few seconds.. then back on.

IMEI Restored.


Bluetooth Address:

Since you upgraded the phone, you already have the usb drivers.
Now, launch the QPST configurator.
Click on "add new port"
Type the port number your phone is using now. (you put it COM5, COM10, etc, its just one example) -----------------If you already added your port in QPST then skip this.

Now, launch the NV editor, maximize the window.
on connect, select the com port, and press connect server.
press the file button and select upload all from mobile
Then, press the search button, and type "447"
Move the file to the "selected" window.
Once you double click it, in another window you will see loads of firlds with 0
Change the to 1, all of them.
also, change the string value to "true"
Now, you press the "file" button and press "download selected & active to mobile"
Disconnect the server, close the program, unplug the phone, and restart the phone.
Now, try to enable the bluetooth.

Remember, once you do the 6th image step, you go to connection and select disconnect server.

All fixed!

Hi! I bought a 3-month-old KS20 with warranty card, but with WM.6.1 KisS20 rom, but the previous owner didn’t save the anything. The warranty is lost. I’d like to put an original rom on my phone, which is v10d according to the system information. Can anyone help me? If it is necessary I’d give my imei as well. Is this retrievable on PPC? Hi all, I have a problem with my ks20 connect to my pc. I'm using vista and followed all the steps like change the setting in engineering menu, install the LG corona usb driver, windag.cab and also checked with $device\WDG1 which is working. After I install the driver on my pc and done with the phone setting, my pc unable to detect my phone but just with a unknown device. Can somebody solve it for me? Thanks in advance!!

I really think there should be a very, very large signpost at the top of these KS20 proccedure threads, or at least those requiring the use of the LG Corona USB driver, specifying that flashing and the like WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE on AMD based systems, specially those with with Nvidia chipsets like the NForce. An immense amount of the problems reported by those unsuccessfully trying to complete these upgrades are related to this specific issue, and to say I had to learn this the hard way is a huge understatement. Very obscure info for such a common glitch, if you ask me. Anyway, just my $0.02 :p

I have some problems to flash my KS20.

I bought it in Germany...it has no vodafone screen or something else..so i think its unlocked version...

I imported it to Croatia...and i like to change it to English language...so i flash it...the problem was i didn't flash it i normal mode because off some errors...so i flash it i emergency mode...and i don't have a back up nv2 file..now the phone is in English language but the phone cant not find a network signal...

Next a read the topic how to change imei...i try this..and i have change it..now its all restored..but it still don't cant find any network signal...

i have no ideas what to do more...

Hello guys! I have a major problem with my ks20 and i think i destroed it!
One morning a few days ago, the touch screen stopped working so i tryed to reflash it. The bad thing is that the the touch didnt work again and the ---- stopped at the point that says "tap the screen to set up your windows mobile device". I tried to do it several times and after the battery ended i cant open. To tell the exact truth when i plug it the red light flashes not continiously as when i charge it but it goes on and off.After i take the battary of and put it back on it opens but it dont charge and when i take tha charger of the phone turns off. DOes anybody have an idea?

I ve got a couple of problems:i want to install WIndows mobile 6.5 on my KS20, and i also got he .nv2 from a nv2 generator (but i want to nv2 from my phone, just to be sure), but i even cant connect to the LGMDS software in EMERGENCY mode. It seems that my phone is one of those without the windiag.dll, and doing al those cabs doesnt add it. what if someone could upload that file and give the directions where it should go to???

dear forum members i have a problem concerning flashing my lg ks20:
when i try to flash with LGMDP_EURO, the program always runs into a timeout and has no more connection to the phone (which is then in emergency mode).

with similar problems, but all the suggeted solutions dont work:
during, before and after the flashing i tried soft reset, hard reset, reinstalling windiag_open and

but the connection always broke down.

question 1: what do i do wrong, what could be a solution?
question 2: is it correct/possible to flash from branded wm6 straight to
wm 6.5 (see version above) with the patched nv2 file?

my phone specifications:
lg ks20, unlocked but branded with orange (austria)
wm6 os 5.2.1630
rom boot modem V10a

2. Press and hold these three buttons--volume down, Call and power--till the LED (this is beside the front camera) flashes.
3. Release the buttons. That same LED should flash blue/red/green and power up.

I made these batch files (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?bj965dsit5a99a3) to dump os.nb from flash.bin and generate flash.bin back again using osnbtool. If those works it could make cooking ROMs easier because the imgfs partition could be resized to have more space (taking free space from userspace). The OS.NB has four partitions last of which is userspace, meaning all the 223mb of phone memory are directly addressable from the os.nb itself.

I have tried splitting and merging the original flash.bin and there are only 6 different bytes that I believe are changed by osnbtool but anyway if somebody wants to try this make sure you have a JTAG and know how to use it to recover the phone in case anything goes wrong (yes, I know that probably nothing should happen but if the guy who wrote LGFlashMuncher chose not to extract os.nb it could be not because he didn't know how to handle the format but maybe because there were valid concerns about rebuilding the bin file).

On the ROM I used only two values were changing when rebuilding the same file (the BIN imagelength was left untouched). What ROM did you test?

Indeed, if one compares the initial flash.bin and Flash_new.bin were only two differences. There is a further difference when comparing to the flash.bin and Flash_new_Fix.bin (in fact this is the first difference appears in the picture).

Another quick question, the tool modifies the header without affecting the MBR. There is no connection between the two?

For my test I used my last ROM 21680 build.

I downloaded the rom and from what I could see it's your rom's imagelength parameter not being correct (that osnbtool fixes). Try it on original roms, it should work fine there. As I said don't flash if you don't know how to recover with jtag since nobody except LG knows what their bootloader does.

The format is just an OS.NB with a 5 blocks of reserved data that is declared in the os.nb structure itself (so it's part of the os.nb even though current tools don't support it so it must be removed and put back). You can find the classic NB header after the reserved region indeed osnbtool -sp removes the beginning of the file where the reserved region is and extracts the os.nb from there.

You can use osnbtool again to remove the extra data (with -sp, this will give you a 230mb file of the real allocated os.nb size) and also to put it back (not putting extra data could mean marking NAND sectors as bad and could really require using a JTAG to restore). I think that all the current tools would fail on that file due to the user partition being present but you can edit the partition table and flash regions by hand to reallocate the free space.


2) To change our KS20 Rom we need the following files

Yes I know but I also know that lgflashmuncher doesn't take an os.nb file but the partitions separated and that is probably completely useless.

Having a ROM capped to 70mb is a big limitation: with more space you could easily fit manila3d and other applications. What I wanted to prove is that the current tools seem to perform unnecessary tasks to handle what is just a standard OS.NB file in a BIN format.

The value is the length of the image and I'm sure that the correct value is the one osnbtool sets with -fixbinheader but if you say that your roms work anyway it just means the bootloader doesn't verify the length while flashing.

I'm absolutely sure the header is a flash.bin or the imagelength wouldn't be correct (last block address + block size) in the official ROM.

after the B000FF\n the first dword (0 0 0 0) is the image start position, the second dword is the length. Following that the rest are the data blocks with their address, size and checksum values.

That file is probably compressed or encrypted because there is nothing readable in it.

With a hex editor I patched my cooked ROM with Osnbool length image (only length image).
The ROM starts without problem, I do not see any difference on memory or other.

The value is only used for flashing and tells the bootloader what is the end of the last memory block to flash, apparently it isn't checked by the bootloader or you would get flash incomplete errors.

Still on my first example the value DF C0 found @14148F on my cooked ROM and in fact the value found in the original flash.bin. This value is not identical to that calculated by osnbtool (81 BE). Again, this value should not be tested or used :rolleyes:
