How to:

-instal driver and application.

At device:
-enter this code to dialpad: 2676625720#
-engeneering menu will show.
-press:
Port Setting → 1. Diag Setting → 1. USB Set for Diag → “OK” → “Back”.
(Port Setting → 1. Diag Setting →) 2. USB Switching → “LG Composite -DUN, DIAG”.
-press Done and reset your device.

this sets your usb port as a composite usb port.


-Connect device at usb port and run application.
-click at "Select port" - dialog will appear, check if state is "Enable" otherwise there is something wrong with your connection. Hit connect.

-dialog will appear where you can select which parts of rom you want to flash, navigate by browse button to desired parts.

-click start, confirmation dialog will appear select yes/no

-dialog will appear if you want backup nv data, do that! or you will have troubles!!!,
backup nv2 with lgmdp when phone is on
-phone then will go to emergency mode and start download rom parts from pc to your phone, if everything goes well you will see "Download complete" at corner of diag box, reset your phone and enjoy new rom

-if something fails dont panic, you can boot device in emergency mode and try to reflash again.
emergency mode: make sure usb is pluged, turn off device and press "send" and "browser" button

-it's highly recomended to not keep your personal settings - set NV backup/restore to "Reset database & Contents"

-hardreset before flash is good choice

As far as I know there is no KS20 usb driver at this time, but it is only matter of time when somebody get one (I hope)

So answer to your second question is no - unless somebody found this drivers.

As you can see this is very different way to reflash devices from htc solutions.. We must be patient.

well, let's then hope someone founds these drivers. I've searched the internet, but no luck......I've looked in the service manual which is really great with so much infos about the KS20 and there it is written that you definetaly need the KS20 USB Driver and not the normal LG USB Driver.

My device has a rom version 10b. The rom posted in another forum is version 10e. What are your rom versions? I'm especially interested in a bug fix for the directdraw problems for which the most nice applications do not work. (PointUI and so on). It would be interesting to know if there's someone who has a newer device where this problem would be fixed??

Another question is wheather the flashed device will be branded or not.I suppose it really depends on the rom one uses to flash it.In Greece there is atm only a Vodafone branded device available and I would love to unbrand it using a rom from LG Greece.

This 10B ROM version has so many bugs and LG is not possible to deliver a fresh new rom with the tools/drivers so we can update our device.

My ROM version is from Oct-07 ;)

i don't think all roms are same. Depending on the localisation. You have 09D from czech i believe. Germans have 10B, but there is 10E version out for german devices.

As far as i see you can download this driver only on the support page. However, this seems to be a Membership which costs $$$. If i read correct, 60 Euro :rolleyes:

Hi All!

I have now tried with the programs here to reflash my phon (the unlocking and flash backup was successful and easy)

But by flashing i have some problems.
Ok. I have install the USB-driver and start flash downloading with LGMDP.
The program make firstly backup of the ROM and after this is komplit, make restart of the device in safe-mode. the phon get off and the green LED get on. All is like in the manuals. But now LGMDP dont see any more the Phon. In Hardware-Manager of Windows is only USB Device detected, but not COM-Port or Modem of LG.

Do i doing some thing wrong?

It's the greek rom. No English rom for now. The german rom is released as version 10e and pointui works well there (no directdraw bug apparently).

What about following the intructions in the first post of the thread? That should be a good start. When the program prompts for a flash file, just provide the name of your .dz file.

i start "LGMDP_EURO" end select the vodafone 10E-Image. The Tool makes an backup, but my ks20 shuts down after completeing and the tool told me "waiting for connection ... 1...2...3..." eg.

if i put my accu out of my ks20 and disconnect the usb cable, the device reboots an connects correctly, the flash tool find it again and said "security mode" - and the flash abortet.

any tips?

If this happens is the led green? If so
do not disconect phone from cable and press SEND and Function Key simultaneously, keep them pressed and press power - this is emergency mode of device and try to reflash.

yes, the green one.
.bz is some clone of zip I think.. But you definitly needs these more files, but only one that can consider you is the one named WINCE Image in LGMDP - thats the rom image, in french rom is named flash.bin

I found this guide on a forum about how to dump a rom:

1/Configure your KS20 as for of sim-unlock (enable communication in Diag mode)

But when i insert my sim (from Rogers) it doens't seem to work..

NO! if you do a hard reset you will only lose your installed applications, pictures (if you saved them on your internal memory), mp3 files...

I think its the most primitive rom considering letter 'a' after version number.
I tried many times to get to engineering mode, dialing, but instead of entering to that mode it makes call.....
Is there another way to get into that mode?? and must I get that mode to upgrade my rom??

try to create a shorcut to \windows\engineermenu.exe with CORONA as parameter.
usb switching can be done by launching \windows\switchUSB.exe.

I just flash my lg with German v10e with a dz file. I want to go back to v10b Greek but when I open LGMDP_EURO and select the port, the tool does not recognize the phone. Either if I give to the tool that the phone is ks20, I am not able to flash anything. Any suggestion?

Edit: I reflash my phone through emergency mode and everything now is ok.

as I explained to rochi...since there's not a safe and official procedure for dump, and as I've not found an italian or english rom yet, first I don't want risk to have to re-flash my phone with a French ROM or even only to re-install all software I used to make my phone like this:

..second thing: my ROM is the 10c, it has TIM-brand (even if unlocked), and it doesn't worth it; I've noticed these problems:


- DirectDraw acceleration not supported (it seems to be ok in 10e and 10f)
- TomTom e Destinator work correctly only if a background mp3 is running; otherwise vocal instruction are broken
- Igo8 doesn't work 'cause it probably requires 3d acceleration
- PointUI doesn't work for the same previous reason
- SKYPE doesn't work because it uses only a part of Qualcomm Cpu ; only LowCPU version works (old and ugly)
- A lot of games don't work...

so...why can't you wait for next Rom releases available (I hope...) in a few days?!

- TomTom e Destinator funzionano correttamente solo se in background si fa partire un file mp3 anche vuoto; altrimenti i comandi sono incompleti
- Igo8 non funziona perchè richiede probabilmente l'accelerazione 3d
- PointUI non funziona per lo stesso motivo precedente
- SKYPE non funziona perchè sfrutta solo in parte i 400Mhz del processore Qualcomm; funziona solo la versione per LowCPU (vecchissima e bruttina)

I see you use the LGMDP_US.exe version of the lg flas program, maybe another version of the lgmdp program is working.

I really don't think that you can dump your rom by this procedure. I tried that and the .nv2 file is only 116 Kbyte!!! Which version of English rom you have?
Also if you check the service manual the nv is a part of images for download and it does not belong to the Windows CE Image but to NV Default.

I just flash my lg with German v10e with a dz file. I want to go back to v10b Greek but when I open LGMDP_EURO and select the port, the tool does not recognize the phone. Either if I give to the tool that the phone is ks20, I am not able to flash anything. Any suggestion?

Edit: I reflash my phone through emergency mode and everything now is ok.

Yes the video drivers' issuess have been fixed. Applications that use PocketHAL (such as PointUI) now are working on the KS20.

i have successfully updated my ks20 to 10E.

KS20 now runs much smoother and very stable. i think something changed with the ati graphics drivers, becouse core player and other programms using 3d functionallity are running much more smoother.

but now...we need windows mobile 6.1 :)

The greek rom v10b from gsmforum is not only one file, but 14 files (*.mbn, *.bin, *.hex)

Today i've spend a lot of time in optimizing my little black beauty :)

i've tested several versions of core player, becouse there is a new feature to play H264 based Movies over wlan or umts hsdpa from youtube.com

i think our ks20 is fast enough to play this movies like a waterfall...buuuut it doesn't. i use the 10E-ROM, but 400 MHz and a GPU from ATi are not enough to play H264 without lags and struggles.

i've working with a ati-patch, and getting nearer and nearer to a better performance. it seems to be a problem with the drivers. i think there are non-optimized drivers braking down the speed . if it's able to get more performance, i'll find it!

Another way is to overclock the black beauty to make the MSM7200 a little bit fire under the ass to play videos or games more smoother. the two known programs called "XCPUScalar" or "Pocket Hackmaster" are not able to override the cpu settings...

i'm getting a little bit hot, thinking of my old MDA Compact, running from 416 MHz to 612 MHz... =)

Do you have installed the usb corona ks20 drivers everywhere in your hardware config of the pc?
I had to install the driver for every device that came up unidentified in the hardware config (4times i think). For Com for usb and for serial port. also a restart of the pc.
Maybe there are still some drivers not installed correct. I had to check this a few times before I got it correct and working.

i am stuck in emergency mode - the LG app won't read the serial port connection and i can't do anything. In phone mode it works flawless, but when i try to flash it goes in emergency mode where it looses connection.

I am hesitating with flash as there is no rom I could fully understand (I mean language :) ) Now I guess I will brush up French, as there is no english rom :o)))

did someone tried to hexviwe the NV file?..if not, pls do that..I think it tells the unlock code, and there is a option for editing the A GPS thing...it needs more research, so that a GPS can be started

- pin code
- unlock code
And just above unlock code, there's another code pretty much like the unlock one (16 digits, starting with #). Does anyone know what it's all about ? (I guess I may just have to try it, but it's been only 10 days I've bought my ks20, don't want to brick it)

still having same issue, tried on 2 PCs, installed corona usb driver, then LGMDP, all fine phone connects with no issues, downloads NV backup then switches to emergency mode where i can't see the phone's serial port :mad:
Also with phone connected in emergency mode i can't restart my PC, or uninstall the driver in add/remove programs because it freezes.
Any advices?

Also Euro version shows all data imei release date and shows Normal Mode active.
The US and the other versions show EMERGENCY MODE, but when i press 'Select Image' nothing happens :(

Be sure your device is unpluged when instaling drivers. If this does not help, try to restart your computer, turn off any unutil apps and try again.

I don't mind having 10c instead of 10e or 10f, as long as it's in English and the Pocket HAL bug is gone ...

Yes the video drivers' issuess have been fixed. Applications that use PocketHAL (such as PointUI) now are working on the KS20.

i'm trying to convince users that have the english rom to dump it and share it with me so i can upload it here ... but ... for now english rom users are afraid to dump it because they believe that this procedure will harm there phones ... :( to get the rom from Vygis i would need the Vygis toolbox ... that is very expensive.

I have 10b and PointUI doesn't even show anything on the screen (and Call of Duty doens't work as well, just to mention one game). So this ROM is indeed a progress.

As for performance, I wouldn't expect such an improvement from double processor speed anyway, since there are so many other factors that also influence it. It could be as well that the MSM7200 drivers from LG are also not optimized, but who knows ?

Anyway, the instructions on how to dump the ROM are on message #58 on this thread. I (and a lot other people in this forum, I guess) are hoping that you can make it :-)

Ok well if that is your concern how about just syncing with outlook, transferring your photos etc and the going for it? Alternatively I think that using the LGMDP program you can make a back up of your files...

Okay. Managed to change the port to LG composite. But when i plug it into my computer, it asks for a driver, which I'm unable to provide and not in the LGMDP software. By the way I'm using windows vista. Is it ok? Because when I tried to scan for port without installing driver, it returned no results, just blank.

Now these instructions only let you save an .nv2 file which is a back-up file and at this stage does not help in reconstructing a flashable ROM. So although I am sure a .nv2 file from an English ROM phone would be interesting to somebody who is trying to construct a flashable ROM, at this stage it does not really help in that regard...

I may be wrong but that is how I understand it, all flashable ROM's have not been extracted but have been made available from LG service centres.

you have to soft-reset the Mobile after the diag and USB settings.

The connection on vista works, I did it myself today. You find both driver packs (modem and USB) in one of the threads.

For the connection to work, you should find a "LG modem" in your device manager under "modems".

-enter this code to dialpad: 2676625720#
-engeneering menu will show.
-press:

-press Done and reset your device.

this sets your usb port as a composite usb port.
5.) backup nv2 with lgmdp with phone is on (with or no simcard)
6.)Mobile shut down, hold the keys to support explorer key ( right side) and win (call key "green") then press power on to set emergency mode (only green light come up upper-right)
7.) update with lgmdp fith folder option and take the path of the 10b srf rom
8.) put phone on and restore nv2 file with lgmdp
9.) update with the rom u want;
for the update the phone must be "ON" the software backup and restore calibration settings AUTOMATICLY


this was the solution on my phone with 10b engl rom on it original on it.
just a try for all those guys who got problems with the sw.

your phone is fully functionally with the new update and calibration settings.

That is because you tried to flash the unbranded rom, not the SFR one, but most KS20 phones are CID locked and do not accept the unbranded roms. The lock is defined in the NV part of the phone, if someone knows how to edit/patch the NV he can remove the CID lock and also do other things such as activating the GPS chip on the KS20 (you'd probably still need an antena to make it work though). As long as your phone remains CID locked you will only be able to flash SFR/Vodaphone roms (and probably other branded roms) into it.

About CID lock, I believe the CID unlock code for the phone (if there is one) should be located at the offset 0x01C658 of your phone's NV file (right above the NCK network unlock code which should be located at offset 0x1C6DD of your NV file.) I am not sure if that code is really the CID unlock code (it could just be another NCK code for all I know) or how to enter it but it is probably done through typing 2945#*20# (the sequence that makes the phone prompt for the NCK code) or such a similar sequence on your phone.

hi! try flashing in emergency mode and to remove the OTP block... when flashing use erase EFS option and the OTP block will disapear! :) Good Luck :)

It is 2:00 am, I tried to resolve the problem since 7:00 pm. But nothing :mad:.

I tried to reflash the mobile by 5 Roms 1.f and 1.b.

The current situation :
- Screen green with windows mobile logo and the error message : Illegal use.
- I cant turn off the mobile. (Must debranch the battery).
- I dont know if the prolem is in the rom, or the LGUSBDriver, or the LG_EURO.exe.
- Each time, i try to install th *.dz file in emergency mode. After 9 seconds i have this message: Time out, End download.

Please i need help to resolve this problem, its urgent :(.

I had the same issue but If you reboot your KS20 in emergency mode and you re-flash it with another rom (the V10b for example) your problem will be solved!!!

I am trying to Flash my v10b GERMAN rom (vodafone) to 10e (DZ-KS20-00-V10e-262-02-JAN-21-2008+0.dz) GERMAN.

I successfully changed the USB-settings in enigneering menu. I rebootet the phone and installed the corona-driver and LGMDP_1_1_.5_Build_12.10 on my WinXP-PC.

I can select a port and also an image file. When I begin flashing, at first the NV-backup-procedure is begun and successfully finished. Then the screen goes blank o my mobile and accodrinng to the LED it is in emergency-mode.

LGMDP says: "trying to communicate with phone" and counts. Connection is not possible. Only thing helping, is removing the battery from the phone and rebooting it. Then I am back, where i started from... :-/

How to resolve this?

You have to flash the nv2 file back to your phone, because that file contains your IMEI! without IMEI and nv2 file your phone will not work! you will only be able to use it like a mp3 player, camera, etc but not as a phone ! so ... flash back the nv2 file :P:) good luck ;)

in order to flash back the nv2 file you have to flash the french rom 10b http://rapidshare.de/files/38512522/KS20.rar and after that you have to flash the nv2 file and only after that to update to another new rom!

It has a Dutch WM6 version on it which is only partly functional: no video calls, no wifi, no black theme, random lockups, no text message reception and a lot more stuff that just isn't working correctly. The device is vodafone branded on the front, so I'm guessing that the hardware is the final product and all I need is a ROM update to get it to work properly.

Now here's the problem: when I enter the code to get to the engineering menu in the dialpad, nothing happens. Supposedly, there's a file called engineeringmenu.exe in the windows folder of the device as wel as a switchusb.exe. These should allow me to reach the menu and switch the usb connection to diag mode. On my device however, those files are missing :(

So my question is: could someone check if their KS20 does have those files in the windows folder, copy them and send them to me? I would appreciate it tremendously if someone could help me out!

Hi! I dont have this 2 files in my windows, but you should flash your phone to another firmware! i believe that the flashing procedure will correct your problems! to flash your phone enter emergency mode! pressing send and function key at the same time! if you need more help just send me a pm!

but i am stuck, after reflashing my ks20, i have no way to restore the NV
it was branded f. sfr 10f
so i took it to unbranded 10f , since that i have no phone service
i tryed to restore NV but LGMDP always says no nv backup found, but i have them, 116k with data in it ...
so i went back to 10e german, still no luck
so i went way back to 10b , but still no way to restore NV, i even tryed with calcomm tools but they dont support the format/phone that lgmdp generates

please guys, i have no phone :)

NV2 files are UNIQUE per handsets. If you did not backup yours before flashing then you are pretty much screwed. One more awesome phone to throw into the trashcan :/ You may try to use your warranty to get a new unit though or perhaps wait for someone someday to come up with a NV generator (if it can even be done that is)

mardinli i can help you with the nv2 file! but first of all did you searched your LG DMP directories? in LGMDP_EURO you should have a directory with numbers! do you have it? maybe the program made a nv2 backup! search for it! if not send me a pm! ok? chears :D :) dont worry everything will be ok

It wont help, your NV backup wont work on his phone (or any other) it contains specific unique phone data inclueding the IMEI. That is why LGMDP asks you to back it up prior to a flash. You can always try though.

i go through repeatedly on this forum, i found that the roms are available on 10b, 10e, 10f, unbrand german rom, vodafone rom, etc. they make me confuse with flashing my ks20.

are 10b,e,f, different generations so far?

is vodafone oem rom?

is german rom made by someone?

anyway, after seeing that the best reliable rom is 10b srf right? so can i flash chinese rom from it and add a patch to using the interface as english?

btw, please share the english rom here if possible.

I have this ks20 and I got it from France. all I want to do is change language pack from France to English. I read almost all post about flashing and it really confusing me. I don't want my phone goes dead, so please, can someone tell me step by step, how can I change language packe from France to English? If I need any rom/flas file, please let me know whichone I should use and where I can download it. At the end I also need to unlock this phone. Is it possible to that over the USB cable? How?

yes you can, but he will havbe the EMEI number, that is he has your cellphone identity, if he does something wrong with his phone, with a cloned sim card the cops will knock at your dorre !! be ware you also with the same procedure get billed for his calls :)

Of course this depends on the SIM card and not on the IMEI. Unfortunately there are people out there which like to spread nightmares about the cops knocking at someones door because of an IMEI :mad:. The only thing which can happen is that the mobile operator blocks the phones if the same IMEI is used at the same time within it's network, but I even think this would not happen as the information about the customer resides on the SIM.

is the ID of your phone, i am talking about worst case cenario,
if it goes in to matters that cops get into it, they will trace a person with the phone ID, just like a licence plate , now if someone else was driving your car and you can proove it , it should be ok


and if u get an EMIE number of a stolen phone and use it, you will get into trouble, so the best thing to do is to change atleast one digit on the number ...

Hi, i patched my german ks20 to 10e and all works. but still some problems occured so I patch to 10f. now i cant use the phone-functions. i also cant play in the nv-file of 10b. the tool does not find the version of the machine and i can only play in dz files in emergency mode.
i think i must play in the orginally software 10b i dont have. what can i do? where can i get the 10b (inc nv-file) from?

@Horstl: Where did you get the german 10f Rom?

To restore the nv2-File you need to flash the french 10b-Rom, which is not one single-dz-File, but many smaller files. After this just flash over any german Rom you want.
(I had the same problem).

when i try to flash my phone with german unbranded firmware i fail everytime i try i think im doing sumthing wrong can sum1 help me out please i connected my phone started LGMDP euro and conected to device after that i selected the rom and selected erase EFS and clicked start phone is making a NV backup automaticly and after its done it reboots the phone but the phone stay off after that with black screen and green light flashing and on lgMDP is showing:

waited till like 1000 secs

i also tryd to take out the bat and usb cable and putted em back in that made me able to put on the phone again(couldnt before when i pressed on button)

REF: LG KS20, purchased in German from Vodafone, flashed succesfully to French 10b sfr version.

Wanting to upgrade, I have tried the unbranded French 10f version, and been unsuccessful: every time I get the OTP Block, even with erasing the EFS. This seems consistent with other reports. The problem is that the NV data (IMEI and so) disappears, and there's no other solution than putting the phone in emergency mode, flashing the old 10b French firmware back and re-install the NV2 file. And that does take a lot of patience...

So, back to French 10b SFR again. Now, let's see whether I can upgrade to 10f French SFR instead of the unbranded version.

Upgraded to the said version easily, with restoring the NV in the process and good connection without errors. :) I get the impression that 10f is indeed more stable than 10b. :D Most notable is the new default ringtone, though ;)

NV Backup works, only in some tries I get "Time out".
After the backup, phone is set to emergency mode - screen is black, only green light is turned on. But the phone is not recognized by the LGDMP application anymore (waited for 150 seconds and more) ! I have to take out the battery and start over again. When I manually put the phone in emergency mode it's the same - the phone is not being recognized!
Is the procedure right? Connect USB, while turning on press "send" button and "explorer" button on the right side.

Anybody experienced similiar problems?

This happened to me too, u just have to find another pc with winXP sp2, fresh install all the drivers, and do all over again. this worked for me (i thought I was goung to trash my new phone...). You won't find this in other forums, but it works, i found it written somewhere....

If you go on the first page you will find drivers and software, and the link to pages with different ROMs... English not available as far as I know by now,,, read everything carefulli, and make steps one by one. there is no simple way...

Now I suffer from another problem, which was described before:
I managed to install German unbranded Firmware and get rid of the OTP block. But it's impossible to phone, the IMEI is not correct. It's not possible to restore NV backup again, because the phone is only recognized in emergency mode...

I managed to have a tool to reset the IMEI and change it as you wish. if you have the box of the phone, it is written there, and you can set it again, then unlock the phone if it is locked... I'll post the link if I find it again, or if you give me your mail I can send it to you by mail, it's a small zip file...

change computer,,, get another xp sp2 machine, fresh install drivers, and try again,,, it's pretty common what you describe... this helped a lot of people out there...

on the first page you have the instructions,,, u need the original usb cable and the tools which links are all in the forum, nothing more,,,
