OMG, this is the best 6.1 Elf(in) ROM out there. It's so barebones everything works at lightning speed. I don't think I have to overclock with this ROM.

It has inspired me to cut my loaded programs to a minimum to keep my touch fast.

After three days of using this rom on my Elf, I have to say that is fast and stable.
After reset the memory available is 25Mb. I'm very happy with this release, I can even run iGo MyWay2006 without problem of low memory.

I loaded it on my Elf and I like it too. It should be called just "ROM" because it's so simple. Just perfect for me. Nothing but essentials and lots of speed. My memory's hanging around 18-22 after 24hrs.:)

I dont know exactly what is causing it, but I suspect it has something to do with the backlight. It happens most often when I used my Touch, and then leave it alone till the backlight dims to save power. When I then want to put my Touch to sleep, I have to press the button twice.

It doesnt occur all the time though, quite strange :)

To send, you need specific software..
To receive you need to enable Beam option in SETTINGS -> CONNECTIONS

i'm having some trouble changing the green dialer skin. is there a trick to this...with other roms i could just install the cab (ZPHONE skin) and that did the trick. Now when i do that the new skin only partially installs. I'll post a screenshot if this doesn't make sense..but is there a way to delete the old dialer files?

Same here: I have to push the power button 2 times, mostly when I used the device for something more than just the todayscreen. I've had this with both CE and the TE edition...

I've changed from TE to CE. As usual, great work, thanks a lot.

Just a minor issue... I configured my connections with the same information, but I can't connect with GPRS or Wi FI. WIth this last, it tries to connect and after a few seconds it turns off.

I think it wasn't the clever idea to flash a new ROM on sunday night. I'm starting to think I'll be 'phoneless' all monday.

ADDED: I tried restarting the phone a few times yesterday, and after third attempt it starts working perfect, as usual. Today, I turned it on and it was out of order again. Then, restarted the phone and... wifi and GPRS working again. I don't get it.

Hi, does this ROM offer the full functionality of the touch except the HTC-Cube and HTC-Software-Stuff?
I mean:
- Bluetooth (send and receive)
- WLAN
- Default-Windows-Mobile functions like contacts and calender...

I refer to this:
To send, you need specific software..

Havent seen the amber ligth for no reason, ill keep an eye on that :)

So far this ROM is great, but sometimes I wish everything had the stock windows skins. The green is nice, but if you select a different today theme, it kinda gets nasty when combined with different colors :P

I also noticed in CE, the "send text message" option during incoming call is missing. Same for "save to contact" option after the conversation ended, missing as well.

Hope all of those missing features can be incorporated into CE as well in future.:-)

After flashing this rom i get an error box saying "Problem occurred within the shell, restarting shell, and the device restarts when you click ok. This seems to happen if i add something or take away from the today screen and sometimes system functions.
Without having to reflash rom (cause a hard reset never solved the issue) is there a solution for this????
I like this rom, as battery life is better than original rom and it's a lot faster.

I have been using this ROM for quite some time now. Very fast & stable. However lately i am experiencing one small issue that some of the apps cannot be totally uninstalled & they still remain in the Remove Programs list. I am sure those are app specific issues, not the ROM coz other apps are working fine.

What i want to know is, how can i remove the app from the Remove Programs list manually through registry? I have manually removed all files. I searched all possible reg entries with Resco & PHM registry editor & removed them all but still those apps are appearing in the Remove Programs list. Am i missing something or is there any other place where are entries are stored?

My gprs/edge doesn't work with this rom too. Well it worked once when i connect and disconnect a couple times, but thats really wierd. Had no problems connecting through wifi tho.

Hi guys.

I got a probleme with this ROM. Actually when my screen go to stand by mode, i mean when my screen switch OFF my HTC reboot. I dont know why... If i press the "shutdown/stand by button" at top of the PDA , same he reboot.

I got an HTC 3452 (Elfin) i try to re-flash with the other roms, no one do same but Shadow 2.1 CE.... Is someone got answer for this issue?

Can anyone make a .cab of the HTC Cube PLEAZZZZZZZE?

I look at the list, and it's great to see it shredding a lot of 'dead weight' from the TE version.

And for the features that I do use, like Comm Manager, .cab's are available.

The only thing that I miss will be the Cube.

Unfortunately that might be the deal breaker ....

BTW, for those of you who hate the green colour theme, you can try Wm6 theme creator ... customize your own theme with your own colour.

New Arcsoft MMS might be the cause of this.

Actually, I had just reflashed back to CE and had only had my exchange server(outlook) email set up when I was having the problem. As soon as I set up my POP3 Yahoo account, camera album then defaulted to account picker so all was good. Maybe that makes more sense to you what the problem was but I'm clueless as to why it wouldn't recognize my server email as a valid choice prior to adding a POP3:confused:

As for the cab, that would be fantastic, thanks! While you're at it, can you alter the launcher page to say 12 to 16 tiles or is that a whole different ball game?

My gprs/edge doesn't work with this rom too. Well it worked once when i connect and disconnect a couple times, but thats really wierd. Had no problems connecting through wifi tho.

There is nothing wrong with your device, the Corrupt Image error occur because there is something wrong with the nbh file youre trying to flash.

Re-download it, and try again. I had some problems with this a few times. It should work sooner or later, dont give up :)

I flashed the ROM yesterday and spent all night installing apps / customizing it. This is a great ROM!

Compared to the TE, which is what I last put on the ELFin, the CE is MUCH more stable and much faster. My last PDA was the HTC Magician, which was a 400MHz processor running WM2003SE, and was pretty fast. The Touch running WM6.1 in this CE ROM is just as fast, which is great considering it's a 200MHz machine running WM6.1, which is more taxing on the device.

I recommend this ROM to all of you ... even the green doesn't look so bad neither ;) (And you can get rid of it installing other themes & a dialer skin)

There are, however, problems that I am still dealing with though ...

1. You cannot receive or send file via BT. I've turned the beam on, and obviously BT on, and I still can't receive files. Seems like some OBEX files are missing ... I'm still looking into it.

2. Sometimes you gotta press the PWR button twice to turn the machine on, as some others have mentioned already. This is minor.

3. This one's really strange: Sometimes after a soft reset, my regional setting got changed to "ober(!@#!@#!)", and all of the text's are all screwed up (turned into symbols). My original regional setting, which is English(Canada), has disappeared from the list. I'd have to change it to English(USA), reset the device again to get the English(canada) setting back.

4. Wifi doesn't work half the times. I have no idea what it is, but after successfully connecting to a wireles network once, since then I cannot connect to any wireless network (same or others) ... this includes wireless networks that are wide open too (not secured). Anybody else experienced this?

5. There are other little quirks ... like I'd lose the soft buttons in Today view, and a soft reset fixes it. Minor ones.

You weight the pro's with the con's and I still think this is a great ROM. The wifi problem is the biggest killer ... but this is a ROM I'd suggest to anyone.

The biggest problems though, are wifi and BT connections ... and they're bad enough I might have to go back to TE, which would be a real shame. Can anybody help??

Wifi Problem - it CAN detect WLANs that are available, but cannot connect to them, even the wide open unsecured ones. I have searched hard for any solution but can't find anything. In the TE it could connect to WLANs no problem at all. In the CE, the first time I ever connected to WLAN it worked, and after that it just cannot connect to it.

EDIT: My bad. I can actually receive and send files via BT ... I just didn't know I had to pair-up the device with another before I can send / receive. In WM2003SE, I could send file without making a partnership. BT is no longer an issue ... Wifi, however, is still an issue.

SIP Problem - it's showed its ugly head even on the CE! I begin to think it's a software conflict problem instead of a ROM problem. Right after I flashed the ROM with no software installed, changing the SIP was no problem. You click on the up arrow beside the SIP button and the SIP menu pop up rightaway. Now when you click on that button to change the SIP method, there's a ~ 15 sec delay every single time. The only external SIP that I installed was TouchPal keypad. I am not sure if that's the reason ... has anybody else experienced this?


The SIP Problem, I can live with, but the BT and Wifi problems are potential deal breakers ... I may have to go back to TE (or wait for official WM6.1ROM) if I can't fix them ... which would be such a shame because I do like how quick and otherwise stable Shadow2.1CE has been.

Anyone using Camera Album with this ROM?
I just flashed back to it(after a two day change) and now when I go to view a pic in camera album, when I tap on the mail icon, it automatically and immediately tries to send it as an MMS and will not let me change to email. Unless I'm mistaken, it used to give a popup that asks how you want to send (via email, mms, etc).
I've been using this rom for about 5 weeks with no issues with camera album.

Could someone using it perform the above test and let me know what you get?

I didn't make this rom so i don't know if there might be some missing.

So no guarantee if this works on CE, but it should.

And euh it is big and it will drasticly change performance as it is being installed after flashing.

Any files installed into WIndows folder after a flash do not occupy REAL ROM memory, but maybe you won't even notice it.
(just open windows folder with explorer and count how long the waiting icon shows, then install cube and do the count to see the difference)

BTW this cab is for Touch Only

And better news, I also fixed the wifi problem. Apparently I went into "Network Sharing" and enabled it, and after a soft reset everything works! Not sure what network sharing has to do with WLAN connectivity, but it did the trick. So if you, like me, have problem with WLAN connectivity under this ROM, you can give it a try.

So the CE is here to stay. I really like how it's a lot more stable and much faster than the TE, while you can customize the applications that you use without taking on 'garbage appz' that you never touch.

Now, the only outstanding problem I have is the SIP problem ... it's a nuisance more than a 'problem'. Like I said, everytime I want to change the SIP and click on the arrow beside the SIP button, there's a 15-20 sec delay before the SIP popup menu appears.

I read somewhere that you cannot change the default SIP on the ELF(in). I didn't try to change it, but I did realize when I installed TouchPal keyboard (very good SIP, btw) by default it tried to make itself the default SIP. This could've caused a problem.

Anybody knows how I can fix this SIP thing? Thanks in advance ...

Installed the 3D cube and it works great! I don't notice any hit on performance neither. When I checked memory, it's gone up slightly ... I used to have 70% of free memory with no application open, and now i have 67%. Still, in actual use of the phone I didn't find it any slower.

I've been using this amazing ROM for a while, and I don't want to change it (or reinstall it), but I want to use a new 2GB micro SD instead of the 1GB I'm using now.

Can anybody tell me if it's just a 'copy-paste' (from the old SD to the new one) or I've got to do something different ?

As long as you copy everything from the root direction to the root directory of he new SD card (i.e. keep everything exactly where they were on the old SD card) you should be fine.

None the less, CE 2.1 is one of the best ROMs available ...Yes it is the best ROM I've ever used too, and I'm sticking with it.

Regarding #1 ... what is random access anyways? I heard of it a lot but I don't see the contact app being any different than the stock MS Contact Mobile app.

#2 - yes, I don't use the enlarge menu neither, but I don't think it takes up that much space, and you can disable it. I disabled mined, and deleted the shortcut, and pretty much forget about it altogether.

#3 - the green isn't as bad now I've warmed up to it, and you can skin it (incl. dialer, CommManager) The one thing I can't change, is the default keyboard with the green and red buttons ... very Christmas like ;) That, combined with the fact you can't change the default SIP, is kindda annoying.

BTW, WM6.1 IS supposed to have a green theme, not blue.

Speaking of CommManager, there's a HTC CommManager .cab floating around that's black, and looks way better. Only problem is it is missing the beam On/Off switch. I've actually deleted it and went back to the green one for that reason.

After installing this HTC Album folder, somehow the menu for this HTC Album is in chinese?!

Not only that, but some of my other apps' menu have been changed to chinese? I checked my regional setting and it hasn't changed (English Canada).

Worse, after removing the HTC Album, the chinese menu still stays??!?

Is there any way to fix this? Or do I have to hard-reset?!?!

Edit - Found the solution ... the HTC Album was extracted from a chinese ROM, thus the chinese menu. You have to replace RFileShell.dll in \Windows with the original file.

This is what I have done. My Elf is already CID unlocked.

I have the complete folder on my desktop. I haven't copied any file to my Elf.
I double click on Romupdateutility and the wizzard starts. I press Next, next next and the update starts. My Elf turns Red/blue/Green and the wizzard starts 1%, 2% 3% en than it says...image is corrupt and everything stops.

Anyone any ideas of what goes wrong? At this moment I have the Blue Elves Rom installed.

There is a CAB file for HTC Task Manager 2.0. Just search the forums and you will find it. It's the same thing as the real one.

nigel, that sounds like your Touch isn't REALLY CID unlocked ... make sure you use the right version that corresponds to your SPL/IPL.

bten, clicking the "X" doesn't really close the window, that's a MS Mobile problem dating back to the very first PPC. There are lots of programs that fixes this problem ... wktask is the one I use.

I've encountered a problem in ShadoW CE that just started happening randomly today (no programs installed), whereby if I enter a new appointment, it doesn't get added to my calender. Also, if I try to move to the next day in Agenda view (in the Calender app) with the right button, it won't move.

Luckily i made a backup with Spb Backup yesterday and I restored my programs again and it is fine now. hmmmm.

Hmmm I think I've got a problem with BT.

First of all, I can't receive any file via BT. I have my BT paired up with my wife's device (Palm Treo 650) and I can send files to her, but not the other way around. I've tried different files and no luck.

I then fried my older phone (HTC Magician / imate JAM) and same thing. I can send file from the ELFin to other BT devices, but I cannot receive any file via BT ... and it sucks when you don't have an IR port.

And i have both BT and beam turned on, and both devices are paired up with my phone.

The other problem I have, is if I click on Settings > Connections > Bluetooth > COM ports, I don't see a "Add a new COM port" item under the menu. The menu is completely blank. It seems like I cannot add a COM port to any device ... now I've ordered a BT GPS receiver to work with the Touch, and I know I'll have to add a COM port to the BT GPS receiver to work ... isn't that gonna be a problem?

Did anybody experience these BT problem as well?

I have the same thing but it's on the contacts list of my Sim card (not on the Outlook Contacts), and was always there before the ROM was installed. Are you sure it wasn't there before?

Yeah, I'm absolutely certain it didn't show up on the stock ROM that I had. When I first bought the device not long ago and popped in my SIM there were no contacts visible at all. I suppose they could be from the SIM (they don't appear to be outlook contacts), but my old ROM didn't display them.. Curious...

First of all, please read the General Guide to Htc Elf(in) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366424).
As you'll see there, SIM unlocking is different from CID unlocking.
So there are different ways to check if each unlocking worked.

When I'm using the original ROM and I press the power button, only the display is turned off (to turn off the phone I need to hold this button).
I installed the ROM Shadow 2.1 and when I press the power button the phone restart. The same problem happened when I installed the Blue Elvis ROM.
Is there any way to change the behavior of this button using a custom ROM?

Here's something that may point those who know far more than I about these things toward a solution:

I too have the amber light that stays on after a message has been viewed. However, I've found that running the free up RAM feature of SK Tools will immediately turn the light green every time. Have also noticed that the problem seems to occur most often when I check sms/mms/calls via Spb Mobile Shell Now screen.

This was a near-perfect ROM for me, but both times after I flashed it, after a couple of days it would no longer accept new Appointments when I entered them. Kind of annoying, because you enter one and then realize it was never saved! So you miss appointments.

I tried Blue Elves but it was kind of slow.

PDA Viet is buggy but it is the fastest.

I updated to Shadow 2.1 CE on my ELFin a few days ago and after doing a few fixes (weather and favorite people) I like it. My problem now is that the option 'keep copies of sent items in Sent folder' keeps getting re-checked after a soft reset. Even if I go into the registry and set HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setting s\SaveSent to 0, it gets set back to 1 after a soft reboot. Any ideas? With Gmail IMAP, you need to disable this feature to prevent copies of sent items showing up in your inbox.

Also, is it possible to change the softkeys that come up on incoming calls? Prior to updating I had the options Answer and Silence. This allowed me to answer calls without putting wear on my green button. I now get the options Silence and Send Text. I see no reason to select 'send text' for incoming calls.
