WM6.1 AKU1.0(build 19199) RAMDisk-16MB Pagepool size-32MB for Hima(Updated 23.03.08)

Friends,
WM6.1 ROM cooked using AKU1.0 (build 19199) is finally out for testing. The size of the OS is increasing with every release of new build. The tailoring of those new builds to fit into the small ROM size of the Himalaya is definitely becoming a challenging task. And all the more to ensure the functionality of the main feauters becomes still more challenging. On the first inspection of the OS i thought that it would not be possible to fit this build into the Hima and this is the end of the road. But I think that the end of the road is still few mile stones away.
The released ROM uses 32MB of pagepool and the RAMDisk is 16MB. You would like the speed of this ROM. With this the memory structure becomes as follows:--

Installed it and now running it. One thing I didnt get in this.

I usually use TomTom 6, the version I have it looses the backlight when I run it, so I downloaded a backlight fix from this forum. Now the problem is when I overwrite the org exe file with the fixed one, it does not allow TomTom 6 to run. It gives Certificate Error message.

Could you please help what is this Certificate Error message? and how to overcome this.

Rest is working perfectly, I loved the PIM Backup Utility it backed up all my data and restored it just fine.

More will post when I finish testing it.:D

dont get confused between RAMDisk and pagepool. The opening page correctly states let me repeat as follows:
RAMDisk: 16MB
Pagepool: 32MB
Program memory: 77MB

If you dont find them useful, simply disable them. traylaunch, Wktask ShutXp all three can be disabled without any prob...

After several hours with this ROM I can say that this one is FAST ' Thanks a lot for the ROM.

One think that needs to be installed after the ROM is the Sound_fix .

I am a NewBoy in the ROM upgrade issues , Is there a way not to disable the installation of WMTASK , profiles and the TrayIcons, If someone can send me to a place that can tell me how to do so it would be great.

Today Screen didnt refresh
i'm using Spb PocketPlus which show battary status
but the battay icon freeze on certain number like 80% and never changes untill restart or change Today itms

One or two more issues which I have found are:

1: Internet Sharing doesn't work, the error message states ""IntShrUI" is not valid pocket pc application".
2: The Wireless SD Card when inserted does not allow to browse internet or to use MSN. Both programs try to connect via GPS service instead of wireless connection (SD Card).
3: I have TomTom 6 installed onto the device but for some reason the backlight is not working, I found a way around it by replacing the "navigator.exe" file but now it gives "Certificate error message".
4: Speakerphone app doesn't do anything. I have tried running it but after clicking on it nothing happens. Tried calling a friend and pressed speakerphone app, nothing happend at all.

Not sure what Touchflo does but when i click on it similar to speakerfone nothing happens.I cant tend to uninstall WkCloseOK and WKTask and some other Task Manager programs which I dont want. I have disabled them though.

Yes, the device is clean.....

When i use the default .tsk (Crossbow one) the top bar is glossy......
When i switch to this green one, the bottom bar is glossy, the top bar not.
I wonder if it is something to do with the .tsk.

The program list only happens if there is alot of recent programs, then the menu is expanded, but show white....(It looks like Wisbar lite's menu) But dont have it installed...

4. I think the speakerphone app is only a shortcut, to map it to a hardware button................. (It works, i tested it!)
If you click on Touchflo, it takes over the device. (You wont see anything happening) But you will notice that you scrolling works differently for example ie, or File explorer.

On the other questions, i dont know!

How did you disable Wktask? (i think its the problem im having in the previous post)

Stk is removed in this ROM, because since WM5 onwards I have not seen any working stk.

I have found the same problem using a Spectec SDW-820 WIFI card: it says "connected" to my wireless network at the wireless networks screen, but PIE says it can't connect to the Internet (phone is off). Does it have something to do with this WPA-PSK setting: under "802.1x" tab I have a ticked "use IEEE 802.1x network access control" but I can't change this.

No connection problems using c_shekhar's previous ROM (6.0).

Same issue. My Ambeon WL54C-SD is connected, but IE gives message: "Cannot connect with current connection settings"
WLAN Manager shows: "WLAN OFF" and the option "turn on WLAN" doesn´t work.
Under "Connections" I can only choose modem connections.

Everthing else is working fast & fine, but to many useless apps like TaskManagers & PSE came with the ROM.

You know, this app is one of the must-have ones.... besides, you wouldn't use this space, if it weren't there, so just don't use it. If a spare space is left in the ROM, it's lost, you can't use it. So.... cookers are putting as many apps, as they can :)

im using the wm 6.1 now, STK still dosnt works, so whats the difference between this 6.1 and 6.0 versions?

cant seem to find any difference.

but i like that the ramdisk has been reduced, didnt really like using ramdisk anyway, since when my battery fouls up, ramdisk contents get lost.

by the way, c-shekhar, can u cook up THIS SAME ROM however, WITHOUT the RAMDISK maybe transfer the 16MB to STORAGE since 77MB of program memory is big enough already, i prefer to install everything to the SD CARD, i got a 2GB card, so its ok for me.

But I have one problomatic issue !!!

When I sorted my programmes that I've installed as well as the files presented originally with the rom into folders to avoid the crowding appearance , my device stoped working and when I soft reseted it , it stuke on the blue " I mate " screen.
I reluctantly hard reseted it but I change the " no " of - Clean registery hives - with " yes " . Fortunately, my device works again but the files on the programmes returns to the same mess , So how can I deal with this problem ?


Another problem with my 2 G SD ,, My device lags to get connected with it and sometimes my installed programmes stop working,, so what's wrong and how can I speed up the connection.

You may try posting the cab but I doubt that shall work. I know the there are folowing problems:-
1. Internet sharing not working

BUG report: YUP today screen doesnt refresh correctly, my today screen displays battery at 58% but in reality under settings it is 43%, so today display stuck at 58% until next soft-reset.

WM 6.0 aku 7 has less bugs than this,
but it doesnt have DOMAIN ENROLL, and THREADED SMS.

so either WM 6.1 allows internet sharing, refreshes today screen properly

or

WM 6.0 has a cab installer for domain enroll and threaded SMS program can be installed on it.

either way, its going to be very good. though STK is something to be desired yet.

you have to edit the NK.nbf file and use hex editor to change some things at certain addresses aside from changing registry setting. to remove ramdisk, flashing is needed.

is this just me that thinks that this is just another ROM based on a very old WM6.0 buggy wizard rom with just some manual tweaks/shortcuts added? (with the same sound bug, storage card bug, etc...)

The PIM icon is dead if you dont put the ExtROM available with the package on SD card as adviced. If you do the way instruction state the PIM backup shall be there..

MMS service has nothing to do with the application which has been installed onto the device. Check with your SP (Service Provider) they will send you the settings for it. I have tried it and it does work.

Could you please let me know how to assign a key to a handsfree? I have no idea why we have that feature when we have to assign a key to it.

SMS features, to be honest I dont really like the way SMS application is working, it shows all my previous sent texts when I click on SMS application plus it does not let me send single text to multiple people. Can you please explain how can I get a classic version of SMS application.

What does Touchflo do? I have no idea what this feature is for?

Softreset does work I have tried myself and it does work just fine. No problems there.

have you tried wireless SD card on your pda to access internet? If you haven't then no doubt you not having any problems in that area. Data SD card works perfectly fine.

I`ve been reported that wm6\5 sometimes cause sd-card bug.
I`ve catch this bug after using some wierd tweker - after hared reserd it dissapiar.
Active Sync sometimes behave weird - try this fix.
I`ve included IE bug fix - do not know - meybee help someone.
Also the are hack for enabling dual-up in 5 3.5 - maybee it can replace ie sharring.
also devcert.cab may help whith sharing - but i do not have it.

When you mentioned TouchFlo, is it the original TouchFlo or is it efrost's fTouchFlo?

I am using your rom and see that in the \windows folder fTouchFlo is there.

Another thing, if it is indeed efrost's fTouchFlo, which version did you include?

I am having trouble installing fTouchFlo v 1.4.1 because it says it cannot uninstall the previous installation.

Any suggestions as to how I can get around this?

I have found the same problem using a Spectec SDW-820 WIFI card: it says "connected" to my wireless network at the wireless networks screen, but PIE says it can't connect to the Internet (phone is off). Does it have something to do with this WPA-PSK setting: under "802.1x" tab I have a ticked "use IEEE 802.1x network access control" but I can't change this.

No connection problems using c_shekhar's previous ROM (6.0).

Some extra info on this: the comm manager of version 6.0 has an extra WiFi button (WiFi on/off) which the 6.1 version does not have. Don't know if it has something to do with not being able to browse the internet with 6.1 using WiFi...

Hi, first I have to say: great job
I found only one big problem, WiFi connection via SD Wifi card (Just Mobile) is not working from IE and ActiveSync. I have the same problem as InsertCoin. I am sucessfully connected to hotspot, I have IP address, DNS resolving is working , when I try vxUtil I can ping to everywhere but in IE is not possible to connect to any site. It looks like that IE try to use dial-up (I have phone disabled) instead connected Wifi connection.

Thanks for good words..The culprit may be you third party S/W you have installed on your device. Yes when you send SMS the notification does not come. It is being solved in next release/upgrade..

Thank you very much for your excellent ROM - I'm in the process of testing it out.

Just one thing, the screen rotate icon doesn't seem to work consistently. Sometimes the input orientation will move (softkeys etc) but the screen does not visually rotate. I need to rotate the screen often for tomtom.

I've found a fix for it using tonenailed's:

"HIM_WM2k5_ScreenRotate_FIX.v1.1.cab"

which works flawlessly (see attached file).

The only thing is that I now have two screen rotate icons in the tray and I would like to uninstall the one included in your ROM. Could you please tell me how to do that?

Perhaps you would consider using toenaileds screen rotate fix in your next ROM?

Finally, do you think there's a difference in speed between the wm6.1 and wm5 ROMS. Tomtom sure seems slower (graphically at least).

Find a welcomehead.96 on this forum or find a thread which explains the creation/editing of your own welcomehead.96. I believe .bmp, png, .jpg and .gif (not animated) are allowed but I'm not sure. I believe its size should be 320 x 320 or you should have a landscape and a portrait one.

great rom! really fast and stable. im only having one problem though. i cant get most of the ringtones etc to play... it says the file is corrupted. and the notifications applet also acts weird. if i choose simple vibrate only for call after choosing one of the files it cant play it still gives an error and once it wasnt closing at all and i had to softreset. anyone got any idea? im not sure but maybe its having some problem playing wma or something similar.

What format your ringtones are? It can play mp3, midi, amr, wav, wma. what else are you trying to play? I have no problem.

But the same question which he has asked, how can we get rid of the one which does not work i.e. which came with the rom. At the moment it shows two icons instead of one, can we delete the one which came with the rom? if yes! then how?

Yes! I am tired of old splash screen but I dont like the one which you have taken from poorly. I have found few files which I will download to change the splash screen. They have mentiond that we can change it without any hard reset. I'll give it a go and will post if any problems (or even if I get success I will post so if someone else wants to change it they will know how to change).

This is a very good ROM great work.

I posted this in another thread but thought i'd post it in the thread for this rom.

Problems I have encountered are :

The camera feature doesnt support recording for 320 x 240, only 240 x 180, and after recording, the first 1 or 2 seconds of the video is very jerky, then the framerate picks up.

Also I have read some posts of users saying the image quality is poorer than on WM2003SE, to me the images seem a bit more granier, or it may just be me.

Also why are the video's in wmv format and not in mp4?

I am not sure how to get onto the registry. When I installed 6.1b from c_Shekar it doesn't give me the option for registry. I think I didn't install anything from extrom that is the reason I cannot get the registry.

Will check it today and install it and then will let you know if it works.

Thank you very much for your excellent ROM - I'm in the process of testing it out.

Just one thing, the screen rotate icon doesn't seem to work consistently. Sometimes the input orientation will move (softkeys etc) but the screen does not visually rotate. I need to rotate the screen often for tomtom.

I've found a fix for it using tonenailed's:

"HIM_WM2k5_ScreenRotate_FIX.v1.1.cab"

which works flawlessly (see attached file).

The only thing is that I now have two screen rotate icons in the tray and I would like to uninstall the one included in your ROM. Could you please tell me how to do that?

Perhaps you would consider using toenaileds screen rotate fix in your next ROM?

Finally, do you think there's a difference in speed between the wm6.1 and wm5 ROMS. Tomtom sure seems slower (graphically at least).

For me there is no problen at all.
I think you better hard reset your device and before doing that edit the configWM61.txt and delete the entry
"CAB: \Storage Card\ExtROM\cs.Copy_Tones.cab"

Uninstalling this cab does the problem.

I had the same problem before uninstalling the cab too. it only played 1 or 2 of the that were added from the cab and the rest warent working along with the microsoft default ones. I will try that out anyhow. hope it solves the thing. Thanks

Im from Croatia, and this is working very good.
T-Mobile in Croatia send me internet connection settings, wap settings, mms settings.. All working..
Before I was having trouble with language, camera, sms, internet..
Now it's all gone.

That is exactly how you do it. Copy that folder to the root of your SD card.
After a hard reset, all the files will begin to install automatically.
Note to remember: If there is anything you want to add/remove, edit it into/out of the config.txt in the ExtRom folder on your SD card before you hard reset.

Yes place the folder ExtROM in the root of \storage Card and then:

1. If you have installed the 6.1 already:
using file explorer open \windows and click the file Auto_Run.exe. and forget.

2. If you hav not flashed 6.1 ROM yet:
flash the ROM after placing the folder ExtROM as stated above and hard reset.

It is all given in the howto.txt provided with the ROM package. Unfortunate thing is that you dont read.

Little bug in the "configWM61.txt" inside the ExtROM. Next time you "hardreset" you can delete this two rows. There are still some more Taskmanager left in the ROM.

Strangely nobody pointed out this problem so far. I checked my store and it does exist.
enclosed is the zip file. unzip it and
1. place the contents in the \Storage Card\ExtROM
2. Copy and paste the shortcut available in the unzipped folder into \Windows\Start Menu\Programs

I can confirm what mns123 said. I get the same message about the Task Manager.lnk, but you click OK and everything else installs from the ExtRom so I didn't think it would matter.
Another bug that I have found, which may or may not be an issue, is the driver for the Spectec Wifi card, which worked in WM6, no longer seem to show up under the "Network Cards" application in WM6.1. I am not sure if this actually affects the functionality of the card though (I ran mine over with an office chair, whoops).

Also, I had a question for C_Shekhar. Would cooking the .Net CF 3.5 into WM6.1 make any sort of speed improvement? I notice it still uses CF 2.0. Some people seem to say it would, others say it wouldn't. What are your thoughts?

to my mind (though has limitations ;)) 3.5 is does not affect the speed. It is required for those applications which have used the advance features (commands) of 3.5. So far I am yet to see a useful application which demands NETCF 3.5 .
Moreover cooking ROM for hima with NETCF 3.5 is out of question. Getting 1MB of extra space without sacrificing an important utility/program has become a cherished dream now.

1. Ftouchflo - is a very interesting program, it IS working in the background, you have not gotten used to USING it yet.
2. Display Switch / WKtask - nice progs too, will help you when youve gotten very familiar with your XDA, though i use SPB Pocket PLUS so i dont need this too, although we have no choice since this is COOKED inside the ROM, so we cant remove this.

about WLAN, WLAN WORKS! and will work if you have a WLAN CARD or WIFI CARD on your XDA 2, reading your post, it seems you didnt specify that you had one, and you seem to maybe assume that the XDA 2 had a built-in WIFI since there is a WLAN icon on the settings. for this to work, acquire a WIFI SDIO CARD.

Bizarre,
I thought Transcriber had stopped working in WM6.1. Then it seemed to stop working in WM6. Turns out that something in Slithers Cube will make Transcriber (and I have heard Calligrapher) stop functioning properly in Word.
So I turned it off, reset and everything worked again. Seems to be OK if you add pword.exe to the exclusion list in the Ftouchflo Config file.
Let that be a lesson to everyone.

PS Is there a list anywhere of currently known bugs in WM6.1. I don't know of any so far except for the previous one mentioned (regarding Wifi drivers).

First of all, thank u the guys out there for making WM6.1 possible on Himas!!!

I have a problem with GPRS over Bluetooth. I connect my desktop PC to Himalaya's Bluetooth Dial-up Networking and after 5 or less minutes the connection is dropped. Can someone help me please? And one more thing, after a GPRS connection is dropped manually at Hima or PC, it is needed to restart the phone stack to make another GPRS connection. Does anyone have this?

Are you sure all those games are patched and are designed for WM6.1? XDA2 came with Windows 2003 so maybe the games for it are only working on that platform? Were they working on WM6.0? or 5.0?

CorePlayer has windows installer, also Call of Duty, so obviously since you knew how to flash the ROM, im expecting you have MS Activesync 4.5 installed, XDA 2 cradled, when synchronised or connected as guest, running the windows installer will have no problem. DO NOT INSTALL the windows installer on your XDA, i hope that is not what you did.

Shekhar I really appreciate your hard work... I had installed the fruit of your hard work to my Pocket PC (PH10B) and is working very fine only I have found the bugs mentioned below.

1. Ramdisk only 14MB and when I install any application it pops me
. Device
. Ramdisk
. Storage Card
but when I choce Storage card, still it install in RAMDISK.
2. Office 2007 shorcut was created in Windows\Start Menu and not in Windows\Start Menu\Programs. That is why if yuo navigate to Start Programs you will not find the Office 2007 shortcut. So I have to cut and paste to right location.

Question: Is there a way that I can increase the RAMDISK size?

by the way c_shekhar, in case you will make a VERSION C of this WM6.1, can i suggest you set the DEFAULT DATE to the day you cooked it?

when i hard reset, the date always reverts back to 2003, still have to make plenty of presses to set date to 2008, because the keyboard is not yet functional at the start-up after hard reset.

i noticed you set the default time zone to DELHI already, so maybe its just a small effort to set the date to 2008. thanks.

You are doing it wrong.
Tap on 2003 and you can switch to 2008 instantly.
Tap on month and you can switch to correct month instantly.
Then set day.

after I flashed this rom(release: b), I noticed that the default WM file explorer is in use so I
1.) copied the cab file in my sd card
2.) used wm file explorer to locate and run the cab file in my sd card
3.) choosed device as my target installation destination

Shekhar I really appreciate your hard work... I had installed the fruit of your hard work to my Pocket PC (PH10B) and is working very fine only I have found the bugs mentioned below.

1. Ramdisk only 14MB and when I install any application it pops me
. Device
. Ramdisk
. Storage Card
but when I choce Storage card, still it install in RAMDISK.
2. Office 2007 shorcut was created in Windows\Start Menu and not in Windows\Start Menu\Programs. That is why if yuo navigate to Start Programs you will not find the Office 2007 shortcut. So I have to cut and paste to right location.

Question: Is there a way that I can increase the RAMDISK size?

Strange!! It should normally not happen unless you fiddle around with something which disturbs the partition system. I think you should hard reset your device and I beleive that the prob should be solved.

Hi! everybody

I have been reading different forums and have gathered a few WM6 kitchens. I read on how to cook it and make own version. I was more interested in playing with a confirmed and an error free WM6.1 version like that of Mr. Shekhar's as this will lead to learning. Playing with a right thing does not distract you. I read an article on using a ROM file and using it as Kitchen starting point.

I did try a few things on the ROM but with a little success. The first thing that stopped me was the password that is required when you convert nbf file to nba. Though it makes an nba to proceed further yet it warns that the password is wrong. Second after extracting the raw image file it stucks when it comes to using Package Tool by Bepe. It explode the raw image generating a lot of files and folders in the dump area. The package tool is required to move the files to SYS and OEM folders but unfortunately it does not do anything. May be I am doing something wrong. Help from you people will take me a step futher.

Awaiting an advise on how to proceed further.

I have tried to upload the cab file but because it is 6.1MB it didnt let me upload. I have converted the file to Zip format and tried to upload but still no luck.

You have to uninstall the prev TomTom 6 before installing this one.

This SMS *feature* on WM6.1 is called "Threaded SMS" If you wish to revert back to the classic SMS display, try to look for a filenamed "cs.NoThreadedSMS.cab" posted by master C_Shekhar on this thread or try editing the registry manually: (posted by clarkdevlin on this thread)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setting s\OEM

-create a new DWORD Entry

SMSInboxThreadingDisabled = 0x1 (1)

if you don't see the "OEM" key then create one.

It works. Pl install the cab and soft reset using psShutXP and not by pricking the stylus into the hole.

It is working I think you should download the cab file again and take the old one out.
This is how I did it
1: Uninstall the already installed cab
2: Soft Reset (Restart) the XDA
3: Download the new one from the forum
4: Install the new cab onto the phone
5: Soft Reset the phone
6: Yeepppeee its working

the roms default ramdisk size is 16 mb... if u want to change it u can search the forum for increasing ramdisk size... theres a post that gives you the complete step by step instructions...

On the memory map i can see MAIN-memory divided in Storage/Programm wich are 14,54MB and 77,23 in Total and i See RAMdisk/Storage Card with 15,96MB and 968,25 in Total.

musicmat: sorry man yea think i misread the thing... happens when im stoned :S still its weird.. mine shows 30.53 storage and i dont think anyone else here has reported any problem ov this kind with this rom... did u hard reset with the yes/no/no menu after flashing? many people forget to do that sometimes.
bula6595: ofcourse everyone here has 128 mb ram in their devices... but when u flash a rom that "ram memory" is divided into many sections by the OS... and when you add them up you get 128 mb.

Since i've installed 7.0c.40CS c_shekhar i'm unable to connect my Hima to PC with ActiveSync (USB cable).
Option Enable Advanced Network Funcionality:
ON - ActiveSync stays in state "Connecting"
OFF - after connecting Hima to PC via USB i must restart it because it's not responding

First of all, thank u the guys out there for making WM6.1 possible on Himas!!!

I have a problem with GPRS over Bluetooth. I connect my desktop PC to Himalaya's Bluetooth Dial-up Networking and after 5 or less minutes the connection is dropped. Can someone help me please? And one more thing, after a GPRS connection is dropped manually at Hima or PC, it is needed to restart the phone stack to make another GPRS connection. Does anyone have this?

This brick is still one of the best phone around. I have bought so many different phones (the new models) none of them match this brick.

Bigger screen compare to new phones now a days.
Bigger and better sylus pen compare to small crappy plastic like pens from new ones.

These are just few reasons why I moved back to my brick.

I completely Agree with you. For me the first Reason to buy the XDA were I could give up my normal phone and combine to a PDA which I really needed it professionally as well Private. The only thing were missing for me in XDII was the keyboard. After waiting for 2 years for a improved version I change to HTC universal which is larger and heavier then Himalaya That makes actually difficult to carry on your belt for whole day long. After that I wait again for while to get something improved (kind to combine the strong points of two devices)

Well HTC seams FOR ME getting every year more worse then previous years in aspect of usability of the PDA-phones. Look at the current devices they have. they are to small for PDA but to big for a Phone. I do understand the need to have device's for young generation but HOW ABOUT the PDA/biz aspect what happened to the 3.5" screen that is just Perfect. Hell I even think for young generation which needs devices for Games, Video, What so ever the current devices are to small.

Currently I also return back using Himalaya even I miss the keyboard on my Universal but for whole day use ( Day/ Night) Himalaya has Just the perfect size and weight. It is to bad that you cant get that much spare part for Himalaya anymore. I would really need a good new Housing.

Nevertheless I reach point in Which I reconsider to separate PDA and Phone functionality again.

It works flawlessly with me. I have widdcom BT dongle on my PC. you have to select the same com port in AS -> Connection settings -> "Allow connections to" on which your PC has configured the BT. Like in my case it is "com5" .
