Oki here we go again. I have been looking for backlight fix of TomTom 6. I did find a link from the forum ages ago but now I can't find it.
I have installed C_Shekar new 6.1 Rom and installed my TomTom on it. When running tomtom the backlight switches off and I cannot see anything on the screen. Someone pointed (ages ago) that WM5 has issues with it and he gave me the fix for it which was working fine uptill now. I have tried the fix error message cab file from the forum as well but no luck. I think I need to edit the registry file for TomTom from backlight to bbcklight or something.
Now when I run TomTom with backlight fix it gives the following error message:
==================
The file 'TomTom Navigator' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem presists, try reinstalling or restoring the file.
========================
Please help!

Just a quick question... which version of Tomtom are you using that has fixed this issue? There seem to be different opinions about which one is best...
6.100
6.032
6.030
6.020
6.010
Do you ever get a "jerking" problem where the position goes forward and backward along the same road as you move (instead of moving forward smoothly?).
Thanks.

Afternoon! I am not sure what version of tomtom it is exactly as it doesn't say on the file I downloaded. All it says it is "TNT2007" and nothing else. I have tried to check its settings from within TOMTOM but I was unable to find the version number.
Yes! there is a "jerking" problem, it did it when I went to France from UK through a road trip and it was getting stuck in Paris. It didn't find the most important places like "Eiffel Tower, Champs Elyees" even though I setup POI's, tried manually entering the name and still nothing. I wonder how POI's work in this software.
anyways all things aside, if you want the file I can upload it here and you can download it and try it out?

I'm using TT too, (Version 6.200, to find out: tap screen, settings, GPS Status lower right corner) and i have the same Problem. someone who kwnows how to solve?
My workaround: press call answering, start, settings, system, Lights, battery tap twice on checkbox, close... back to TT and lights on...
It seems that TT forces the Lights-settings...

btw: sorry for my bad english, i'm german ;o)

To find your version of TomTom open the software and tap the GPS signal strength meter in the bottom right corner. Your version will be displayed in a white box in the lower right corner. I am using version 6.010 on an AT&T Tilt using the latest stock ROM minus the bloatware. I have little issue with how the screen scrolls, it is a lot better than my old iPAQ.
To be able to find POI's you need 2 things, a map, and a list of POI's. You don't always get a complete list of POI's with the map. If I was traveling out of the country I would make sure I had all the proper maps, and POI files before I left home.

I used to tap the red end key on my old iPAQ to minimize TomTom... I think the green key brought up the dialpad.

The best solution is using a hex editor to open the exe file under tomtom folder.
Search for Backlight and replace the 'a' to 'b', becomes Bbcklight.
Save and replace the original exe file.
Sounds a ridiculous way but it does work for all versions.

Hi Jay,
Sorry for taking so long to reply to your suggestion - work has been getting the better of me.
I've now trialled a number of different versions of tomtom and I believe the best one for this ROM is v6.032 build 8351.
Try googling "tomtom 6.032 torrent".
In terms of jerky and slow screen updates I've found a major improvement by backing up my SD card, re-formatting it (full formatting, not quick formatting) and then copying the map back first, and then everything else that was on it. It seems that my SD card was fragmented and defragging it made a massive difference. I didn't believe it would when I first read about it on another forum, but it really works!
I've also found a slight improvement by overclocking the CPU using the program XCPU Scaler v3.03. It runs tomtom at 472mhz. Not as big an improvement as the SD card trick, but still a small improvement.
I still think that tomtom performance was better under wm5 AKU2.3 (and even wm2003se) but we get quite a few more features with wm6.1.
I now have no backlight or other issues.
I hope that helps.
