I was able to extract a Polaris Radio and get it work on a WM6.1 Kaiser ROM

Here is the thread concerning the Polaris ROM / Radios.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=370079

Here is a link to the Radio's.

PLEASE NOTE THESE RADIOS WILL ONLY WORK ON WM6.1 ROM'S

Whats the difference, signal, battery drain, GPS cold fix...etc

Have had no issue with it thus far. Connections are very quick...battery life is still undetermined but that last Polaris Radio I was trying worked very well. I will step outside to try out the GPS. Signal strength seesm to be the same but I need to do some more testing on this. While driving today I usually lose connection at one spot and I didn't have this happen today.

GPS worked great got a lock in Google Maps in 1 second...no joke.

I do not know alltheway, Radio numbers are really confusing, we do not know change logs between them  I got 1.58.26.20 on my Kaiser (an official Radio released with the 3.02 build) :)

Howyou like Dutty's WM6.1? I like it, ut having issue with BT voice speed dialer. Usually when I press the botton on BT headset, it will beep and start voice dialer. It works for a short while and then stop working. Everytimes when I press the bottom, it goes to phone pad screen..... strange...

Now back to 3.03, which I have less issues... any suggestion?

Oh man...you try to bring down my glory. Just kidding. No actually if there is a way that we can compare them I'm all ears. Maybe its just the same as Kaiser 1.58 radio.

Anybody know how we might solve that.

Battery life with radio 1.58.25.14 with Dutty's ROM: Battery life will last for 411 min. Not bad for this Radio / ROM combo. I'm going to test the other one now. I don't think 1.58.25.14 gave me very good reception inside my office but then again I barely get one bar.

Better results than the 1.58.25.14 ? or better results than a non-polaris? I am using 1.58.25.14 as of now. What should I look for as far as improvements besides bars? I still have two versus my 1.64 xxxxx radio

Just watch how your battery life compares against 1.64 use the same programs and perform the same operations as normally would. See if you notice any improvement in device speed or battery drainage / improvement. For me I noticed the speed my device seemed to be significantly quicker.

Sometimes a downgrade can be the best thing. I noticed that right away my Tilt performed better and had a better battery life than any of the other radios. Check my post on battery performance. aka 1.27.12.11

Each radio is also very dependent on wireless carrier etc. Some radio's just work better than other's. That's one of the things I trully love about this phone. That you can just flash to a different radio and immediately improve your reception / battery life. :D

I have been playing with all four of these radios with Streaming Audio, GPS, and either a Motorola HT820 & (just purchased for testing) S9. I am in San Diego until the 1st of March and then I will be in Arizona. I hopefully will have time in the next few days to do some tests and post results. 1_58_25_14 was unusaable when connecting to bluetooth (S9) after flashing once GPS caught a signal audi died. My plans are to go out in to the parking lot at my hotel and flash each radio then while already connected to bluetooth headset turn on Tomtom and test audio. I feel this test would be the normal use. I will be back in a couple of hours...maybe I can get a couple of test results if its not too late.

Flashed 1.58.26.20...bluetooth connected automatically. Went to parking lot to turn on Tomtom and after 1 min 45 seconds of not connecting I started QuickGPS and Tomtom (6.2 run the .exe version) found its signal. Streamed XM during the drive and made a phone call. After the phone call, I lost bluetooth audio to the S9 and the TomTom voice used the external speaker from there on out. I repeat this process tomorrow morning with the HT820 and report back. I'll change radios after work and repeat the process. (I tried the parking lot briefly with both polaris radios and this radio was more bluetooth w/GPS friendly.)

I was on 1.64.08.21, Downgraded/Upgraded/whatever to 1.58.25.14 and it seems to work just as well. Not sure about battery life cos I charge it up every night anyway.

Also, I'm not sure if it was this radio or not, but I can now send/receive files via Bluetooth on Dutty's new ROM, which I couldn't before? Would a Radio affect this?

1.58.23.21--HT820

Took 1m 45s to connect to GPS via Tomtom with no QuickGPS. Streamed XM and Tomtom voice tested good during streaming. Made phone call during this process and Tomtom voice stayed connected.

1.58.25.14--HT820
Identical results as above but connected 5s less.

I noticed when I went to test the Tomtom voice it originally starts the first word of her first sentence garbled and then cathes on. I noticed this during the day with one of the non-polaris 6.1 radio while driving. No more testing on the S9. Half a day and they are going back!

[QUOTE=alltheway;1946583]Try the other Polaris Radio. I have had good success with it.

On Dutty's UC rom and 1.58.25.14. GPSTools took a long time (probably more than a minute) to get satellites but could not get a fix. Using QuickGPS to get the latest data, still GPSTool couldn't get a gix.

Flashed the other Polaris Radio as suggested. GPSTools was able to get a fix pretty fast (probably less than a minute). Note that the QuickGPS data was there from the earlier trails with 1.58.25.14.

Thank you alltheway and Alex. :)

I'm in Vancouver, Canada with Fido.

Just flashed to this rom not long ago. Noticed that RSSI value in the field test is much more stable than 1.64.6.4. It does not fluctuate as much as the 1.64.6.4. GPS signal is good in GPStool, I can receive satellite signal in my room without going close to the window.

About signal quality, I will test it while talking to my gf tmr. :D

Good stuff.

I'm using udK's Vega ROM. With 1.58.25.14 i've got the best battery life by far.
I've tried 1.64.08.21 and 1.58.21.23. With both radios my battery was drained in about a day maximum!
With 21.23 my GPS did not work well (after 5 min. searching for sattelites i gave up...). After flashing to 25.14 everything was fine.
even when i was going for a walk with my dog and listen to music, 08.21 and 21.23 drained my battery very fast, with 25.14 i've got the same results as with 12.17.
I was thinking to switch back to WM6.0 and radio 12.17 because of the bad battery, but now it's looking ok...hope this will stay :)
Thanks for posting this great radio rom!

WOW...I just flashed .21.23 and tried the GPS and it locked onto 4 sats in 30 to 40 secs. What makes it so cool is that I'm in the middle of NYC. East 44th to be exact inside my office with the phone near a window. I remember when I first got the phone It would take a few minutes while outside.

I hope the battery life is as good or better than before (1.64.08.21)

Thanks guys.

I am testing 1.64.08.21 and I did not like it. I am always happy with with 1.64.06.04. The disadvantage is slow GPS pickup. The 1.64.08.21 gets GPS pretty quick, but battery drain little faster.

Hi,

Just tested .23 radio,

- Same bad signal as .14 (a telephone conversation is not possible with this signal)

- Battery performance a bit better as the .14 I think

I'm using latest Vodafone WM6.1 3.08 build with these tests!

I give up on these radio's :(

Regards,

Leo

Well thank you for your input...I think the Polaris radio's give the best performance but also seem to drain my battery a little faster than 1.64.06.04 and 1.64.08.21.

I will continue to do some more testing though.

On two separate days starting at 12pm and ending at 9pm (phone not plugged in) and traveling in pretty much the same areas (coverage wise) and with only 2-3 small phone calls BUT WITH major texting and occasional wi-fi usage for emailing...

on these two radios:

1.58.21.23:
end of day %: 82% (WOW =] for 9 hours) KEEPER!!

1.64.08.21:
end of day%: 64% (Hmm. I think I'll stick with polaris)

Dear All,

I have been testing the Kaiser radio roms for a while and here are my results. They might not be very accurate, don't count on them :)

* For battery drain the best is 1.58.23.21 then 1.64.06.04 then 1.58.25.14 then 1.64.08.21 then my original Rom 1.27.15.32R2. I am attaching a Battery drain tester that gives you an average in an interval. You may run it in the background for a day and check average power drain. (Please advise your results if you use it)

* For reception, I didn't really noticed a difference except for 1.58.25.14 which was very fast in switching between networks and has almost the best reception.

* GPS lock and satellite reception is best with 1.64.06.04 this I am sure of.

* One strange problem happened to me with the 2 Polaris radio ROM, the sound completely stops when using bluetooth headset and GPS at same time at certain times. Only reboot fixes it.

Cheers.

I know some people as well as myself have a problem of sometimes having no sound when placing or receiving a call even after the phone says connected. The problem goes away after a soft reset but you have already missed a call. If this is possibly radio related, could people post if they are using a certain radio and have never experienced this problem. I experienced it often on 1.64.06.04 and so far have not had it happen on 1.58.21.23.

Hi everyone,

I'm using Dutty's newest Official WM 6.1 WWE ROM with Radio 1.58.26.20. It seems to work OK, but I'm wondering if it's the best or newest ROM found to work with the AT&T Tilt. Now, with this radio, the side wheel won't adjust the volume in my Jawbone Bluetooth like the other radio would. Any ideas of what I could flash?

The 1.58.26.20 radio is actually a Kaiser Radio. I would suggest trying 1.58.21.23 first and then 1.58.25.14 I am also using Dutty's ROM

HI,
Continuing the great work of ALLTHEWAY, I would like to share to the community the tests I made with BattBench .NET (It measures battery life from how long your phone would last by running down the battery to a desired amount of percentage and testing it).
My test consists in two parts, first one is GPS testing and the second one is based on battery life test with BattBench .NET.

For testing, I let the PDA still in the exact same position, untouched during the testing process (no device use), with full battery charge. The device is set to GSM only (85-90% signal strength with Vodafone Portugal), and backlight is set to minimum. All the tests where made with Dutty’s 6.1 19199 after a soft reset and 2 minutes of waiting time.

For battery life testing, I have set BattBench.NET to drain 25% of the battery (from 100% to 75%) and then registered the estimated battery life gave by the software at the end of the test (test made once with each Radio).

For GPS testing, I let the PDA still in the exact same position, untouched during the testing process. I have used GpsTest 1.04 (yes, I totally agree with P1tater, in my opinion this soft is very simple and faster than GPStool). All the tests where made INDOOR, close to a window. With Dutty’s 6.1 19199 after a soft reset and 2 minutes of waiting time, then:
1º Turn on GPStest and wait 1 minute,
2º Registered the number of satellites found,
3º Wait another minute,
4º Registered the number of satellites found,
5º Registered the time spent until the device gets GPS Fix.

GPS Test results:

Radio 1.58.21.23
- After 1 minute: 4 Satellites (2 on green, 2 on yellow)
- After 2 minutes: 7 Satellites (3 on green, 4 on Yellow)
- GPS fix at: 1m56s

Radio 1.58.25.14
- After 1 minute: 2 Satellites (2 on yellow)
- After 2 minutes: 3 Satellites (2 on green, 1 on yellow)
- GPS fix at: after 5 min, still no GPS fix

Radio 1.64.06.04
- After 1 minute: 3 Satellites (2 on green, 1 on yellow)
- After 2 minutes: 5 Satellites (2 on green, 3 on yellow)
- GPS fix at: 2m16s

Radio 1.64.08.21
- After 1 minute: 5 Satellites (2 on green, 3 on yellow)
- After 2 minutes: 8 Satellites (4 on green, 4 on yellow)
- GPS fix at: 1m37s

Battery Life Test results:

(Estimated Battery life (from 0 to 100%) of this battery, working in the conditions above)

Radio 1.58.21.23 - 711 min

Radio 1.58.25.14 - 651 min

Radio 1.64.06.04 - 677 min

Radio 1.64.08.21 - 721 min

NOTES:

Radio 1.58.21.23 - The device seems to work a little faster than with the others, overall performance almost as good as 1.64.08.21 – I will test this version on the normal day utilization, to see how it performs

Radio 1.58.25.14 - I’ve got some random freezing, even after soft reset

Radio 1.64.06.04 - No issues, but GPS performance wasn’t so good

Radio 1.64.08.21 - Best battery life, best GPS fix, no issues (it’s been my day-to-day Radio)

That's interesting because I actually found the sound volume to be quite loud in comparison to the Kaiser Radio's.

That's pretty good battery life after one day of use and still at 82% not bad at all :)

Just one question are you in a 3G coverage area or just EDGE / GPRS?

Just from reading all 10 of these pages it appears that perhaps the .23 rom is better suited for America. It seemed like most people that said they had poor signal and gps on the .23 were euro.

Just a thought,

Hi,

Since yesterday I use the 1.58.21.23 with Dutty's newest ROM.
I never had such a huge drain: my device was 100% full, I left it overnight (less than 10 hours) without bluetooth or any connection.
This morning my battery was only 46%!!!

I immediately flashed again to make sure. Now, 6 hours later, hardly using the phone, my battery is only 27%...

Before I used the 08.64, that went smooth, long battery lifetime.

Am I the only one with this radio???

I must say wooww, in my personal tests, that radio was almost identical to .64.08... but in day-to-day normal utilization i found that .58.21.23 radio drains faster than .64.08... but in my case not that hard...

My reception isn't great, but I suspect part of that is more Vodafone's coverage than anything else. Still, anything to help the situation would be appreciated.

Just wanted to post my experience with radios lately. All I can say is it was odd. Very odd.

I flashed Duttys_WM6.1_Official_5.2.19209_1_58_16_27 last week after not flashing anything for a while. I believe I was on an early 6.1 release, but don't remember. With this rom/radio I was getting AMAZING speeds. Internet downloads were peaking at 1.5 megabit/sec. I've never seen that kind of speed (AT&T mid-us location) and I was mesmerized to say the least. Calls were clear, GPS was fast, initial connections were fast.

But, of course it couldn't last...

After about 24 hours, my network connectivity would start to drop and fail. Reboots would bring everything back, but after another day it would start to fail again.

I soon noticed that I had flashed a next-to-latest Dutty's rom. So I grabbed the 19700 version, with one of the 1.64 radios. The connectivity on my Tilt went down considerably. Lower than what was the norm beforehand.

I started flashing every radio I could find. Expept the 1.65 one that was said to lock up the radio version from changing again. I stay away from that one. I downgraded, I upgraded, I flashed back to Dutty's 19200 version I had the amazing speed with, still the radio just doesn't seem the same. One change even caused the voice calls to stop working. That was scary...

Just odd, plain odd. As if the phone wanted to tease me with blinding speed, then choke. Anyway, at this point I'm a bit frustrated. I have Duttys_WM6.1_Official_5.2.19209_1_58_16_27 vesion back on the phone for now. It's slow, but working. I guess I can't complain for that. :|

I'd keep an eye on the Shift Elite Project, they are looking at adding GSM and GPS capabilites (which comes with the Radio) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375898

EDIT: Do not try flashing this unless you have spoken with someone who knows what the effects will be...
