Downloading files-depleting my storage

So I was trying to download one of my favorite podcasts to my storage card and for the first time (as I have done this before) I noticed my phones memory depleting rapidly. This was a 42mb file and stopped downloading as I ran out of memory. I had virtually nothing on my card that I was downloading to.
I am using Touch IT 2.3. Do I have something set incorrectly? this is very odd..
