View Full Version : RELEASED 9/3 - PDVista v1.0 Theme for PCM 0.20 (Poorlyduck Vista theme)
DvTonder
22-02-2008, 03:05 AM
Please do not post adaptations/changes to this theme without PM'ing PoorlyDuck and myself first. This theme is available FREE and may not be sold in any way, shape or form (hear that eBay sellers!)
NOTE: The graphics are (c) PoorlyDuck and is not to be used/redistributed/changed without his explicit permission. I want to thank him for his hard work over the last couple of weeks in finalizing the graphics and this theme.
PoorlyDuck and I have been working to create a theme for PocketCM that matches Poorlyduck's Vista theme pack. It is based on my HTC-ish v3.1 Base theme with the graphics completely re-done by PoorlyDuck.
This theme used to be called 'Vista-ish', it has now been renamed 'PDVista'
Here is the result:
v1.0 Final now available with support for PocketCM v0.20 only.
Screenshots to follow once PoorlyDuck publishes it as part of his Vista Theme Pack (see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350011 )
- Support added for Poorlyducks VISTA theme pack
- New Landscape and Portrait mode dialers
- Change to Contact detail page and default contact icon
- New main menu background
- New header background
- New Selected item highlighting
- Reworked header to make it fit better with WM6
- Removed operator, battery, time and signal section (looks better IMHO)
- More 'glass' buttons
- Updated Send SMS Box
- Several bugfixes
- Final Graphics and Layout
See the known issues section below for remaining items.
Be sure to check out my other themes:

DvTonder, love your i-phonish skin. But to be perfectly honest with you the dark vista skin by lukymat2 found here: http://pocketcm.com/phorum/read.php?22,8986 with a color change would be the perfect match for this. Maybe the 2 of you could combine talents and come up with the best theme for PCM ever. Keep up the great work and Thanks, BOO

Quick update on the final release:
- Poorlyduck has been working very hard on the interface re-design and graphics. He is a perfectionist and will not release the theme until it is ready. There are a few small things left to do but we are getting close!
It is worth the wait!
On a side note:
Vista-ish v1.0 will likely be the last 'official' theme I release. I spent my time figuring out the workings and documenting the settings.ini file and am happy to say that my work has now enabled other, more graphically inclined individuals like htctoucher, PhilD41 and PoorlyDuck to take the torch and run with it.
It was a lot of work, but it was fun!

I must say, thanks for the vote of confidence. I am pretty sure I don't belong in that list! I have seen their work it is pretty amazing. Sorry to see your theming end. I am very impressed with your work. Also thought I would say a big THANK YOU for the work you did in the settings.ini. It was very helpful!

You are more than welcome!
First of all thanks for the great skin!
Second I have a question, maybee I'm just a n00b on this one but, I can't seem to get the contacts text colour in white and bigger. They stay small and black...How do I change them like you have in your screenshots?

Just wanted to say that this theme is really nice. Iappreciate all the efforts on it...
I do have a couple of suggestions for the final release. They may be on the To DO list, but I didn't see them any where:
1. The SMS convo bubbles colors shoul dbe more different for the incoming and outgoing messages. The colors now are very similar and, esp. in bright situations, its hard to distinguish between them.
2. Will there be a "character count" on the SMS typing page? I don't see one and it does make it hard to know when you are up against the 160 char limit.
Otherwise, this theme is fantastic. Thanks again!

is there anyway you wouldnt mind also maintaining a version that still has the battery indicator, time, and signal strength...and no "X"?
i hope that isnt a lot of work to ask of you, especially as you said you are being close to finishing up.
i just find those things really useful, and dont quite like the large "X" button.
if you can't/rather wouldnt...thats not a problem at all. i just would really appreciate it if you did! :)
thx.

Will see what we can do. I agree, the convo boxes can do with a hue change.
As for the sms counter, I will give you the code to change to enable it but likely wont release a version with it officially turned on - it does not look good and I am sure PD will have a thing or two to say about its impact on the overall design :)

Cool, that would work, on both counts! Just let me know how to make those changes, and I will do it on my copy...Thanks yet again!

Hey DvTonder,
Great to see another fellow Toronto-nian creating some great stuff on xda-devs. I just had one quick Q, (after I scanned the entire post, forgive me if I missed it), and that is:
Are the PocketCM themes you've made VGA compatible?
I suppose I could find the answer out by installing PocketCM 0.20 and your themes, but I'd rather just wait for a reply ;)
Thanks!

No they are not. I am looking into making a VGA theme and have installed the Microsoft WM Emulator as a start - at least now I have a VGA 'device'. Maxmotus (MM-HTC themes) has a VGA version of his theme out - I suggest you try that one in the interim.

Awesome, looking forward to it! BTW, any chance you can supply the code to add the character counter for SMS messages? I really could use that, so I'll add it in myself, but was hoping you can explain how that's done...Thanks again!

Open the .zip file and extract settings.ini.
Look for the code:
## Position the SMS Counter but Hide it
panel.smspanel.smscounter.box=-40p,6p,100%,$top$
panel.smspanel.smscounter.font=none
Replace the last line with this:
panel.smspanel.smscounter.font=8p,regular,Segoe UI,$high9$
Replace the old settings.ini in the .zip file with the changed one.
Re-load the theme
Not sure what the positioning of the text is. You can play with it by adjusting the first line above, the format is: left, top, right, bottom where -40 is 40p pixels from the right, 6p is 6 pixels from the top etc.
Enjoy
