A member (idsk) from the forums have created a patched HTCHome.dll that works with proxy connections. He has created 2 versions of the patched full versions of the HTC Home installer. His cab's can be found in his main post. I have created 2 cabs that would patch your already cooked or installed HTC Home. My cab install files will not change your customized Home or settings. Proxy setting is set to auto. If you want to force your proxy setting like I have, change your registry settings.

Note: When you force your proxy settings, updating through Wi-Fi or while sync'ed will not work.

Registry settings:

[HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\HTCHome\Weather\Settings]
"ProxyType"
0 = auto proxy config (system config*)
1 = direct to net (without proxy, default)
3 = via named proxy

"Proxy"
named proxy, IP:PORT (only used if "ProxyType"=3)

"User-Agent"
user-agent of the request
(the default user-agent is sent if leaved blank)

"Url"
url of the weather server (must begin with "http:" and without parameters. the parameters will be appent to it after a '?')
(the default url is used if leaved blank)


*I noticed that the autoproxy option forces the program to take pie proxy config, so pie should be at least launched once.

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but it stopped working.... it also doesn't event let me change the city... :(

Now I know what I did wrong: I had changed the database to "custom" using HTC Home Customizer... my bad :D

I've been using this patch since it was released, and it's been working flawlessly. Thanks goes to idsk for the original version and phouki for enabling this feature on all HTChome versions.

The next challenge is to enable other programs to work with the WAP proxies out there, such as Live messenger, FRING, and all other programs.

After a talk with idsk himself, he said that theoretically it can be done.

For htchome, he edited the htchome.dll in a hex editor, and searched the string "wininet.dll" and replaced it with "idskpxy.dll". Then he resigned the dll, and put idskpxy.dll in the same folder.

He actually started to work on Fring, and found it needs 12 functions to be re-routed to his hacked dll, but he hasn't been visiting the forum lately.

Personally I have no experience in hex-editing, I tried checking some exe and dll files and hex editing it, but with no success.

The question is : is there any developer or programmer out there who can check some popular programs and try to re-route the files to idsk's hacked dll file?

Now after installing the Cab, do I have to go into the registry and change the settings or just leave it be. Because i've installed and try downloading and it wont let me. I did open IE and minimize it but still isnt downloading. However, Accuweather does connect to The proxy internet when attempting to download. Please help and thank you.

Do you have proxy settings in your internet connections? You can try the forced proxy reg settings which is on the bottom of post #1.

I have tried 2.1 on my tmobile wing / Herald but also couldnt get it to work either. so I am using 1.5 as well.

Thanks to idsk for the original solution and phouki to make the simple CAB solution. Worked great on my Tilt (DCSv1.7 WM6.1 WWE) with T-mobile t-zone.

I had same problem when I installed patch v1.5. But then I installed patch v2.1 and everything is running great and HTC got all the tabs in original order as well as the contacts in photo dialer.

It's a patch. Download and install the appropriate HTC Home version that you have.

Unfortunately your patch didn’t work for me.

No surprise because I run Athena project's "AP 3.0 HTC Home 2.1.1005.722.cab" which differs from standard HTC Home because it installs in \HTCHome instead of the default \Windows folder. When patched all references to .png files are pointing to the windows folder instead of HTCHome so the plugin totally disappears.

Is there any way I can patch HTCHome.dll myself or won’t idsk share this information (understandably). Or can you think of any other solution beside installing a standard version of HTCHome?

I don't have the Athena AP 3.0 ROM but I did install the "HTC_HOME_VGA.cab" on my x7501 with factory ROM, and like everyone else on T-mo, I can't update the weather therough the wap proxy. Is the file I installed the same version you're reffering?... if so I would greatly appreciate if you could upload the proxy fix which works with the VGA version.

Yup I got the same exact problem, i just dont understand what or why it has anything to do with shutting down. I was so sure it was this just didnt think i was right. We need fix ASAP. IF anyone found a way to fix this with 2.1 please let me know.

It’s impossible to patch all existing versions of HTC Home and post them. idsk won’t do that, nor will I. However, a generic patch can be made. N2A has made a clever batch file and a set of tools to patch HTC Home for his own purposes. The batch file can be easily converted to do the same trick for those who visit this topic. Here is N2A's work.

this is the only version of htchome that I could get to work on my Wing. I did all the N2A stuff as well but never got it to work. after I found this one and edited my weather cities file, bingo! been working like a champ ever since..

I though I'd give it a shot, and installed it on the x7501, and like you said "bingo" weather over proxy, I've been trying for so long to get that in the HTC homeplug but just before I started my happy dance... it doesn't display properly on the VGA. Is it an easy fix to change this, or does a VGA version of this (with the proxy fix) already exist?

I installed this the pre-patched DLLs on HTC Home 1.5 and it works through the proxy now - but - now I can't click on the city name to change the location. Anybody have a clue why or what I might settings I check?

hey guys, I just flashed the latest version of the niki project rom and the htc weather works like a charm with my proxy plan with no tweaks! not sure what version it is but if you want the dll or let me know what you need from it, I can try to get it to you.

I'm having a problem with the 1.5 patch. It works pretty good - lets me get weather updates over WAP. BUT, when the patch is installed I can no longer use the 'Favorite People' tab. With the patch uninstalled, I can add people to that tab and click to call them etc. When I install the patch the tab shows up empty, and I can't click on the squares to add people. And, I also cannot click on the city name in the weather tab to change the city. Clicking results in no action on both tabs. Other tabs work fine.

Anybody know why that happens?

Also, I tried to install HTC Home 2.1 and the related patch too. But, for some reason I cannot uninstall HTC Home 1.5. It's' cooked into my ROM (HTC Apache) so maybe that's why I can't uninstall it? Any ideas.

I don't care which version is installed as long as it all works right :-)

Uh oh...
Has anybody had this problem? Installed the 1.5 on my Wing (touch it, touched by vista) and it needed to reboot. Now it keeps rebooting, it gets to the "enter pin screen" waits about 5 seconds, and reboots. Endless cycle.

Anyone with any help for me, I would GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks!!

Edit: Just went to a hard reset. Little bit of a hassle, but nothing compared to a flashing error. I'm very thankful :)

Its not working for me, running the cab says it doesn't have permissions so it doesn't run. What does the cab do? Does it just fill in the reg settings?

Let me know of me adding them by hand looks right:

For the cab to work for Tmobile over proxy I had to change the following settings and it worked perfect. I remember doing this for the old HTC Home weather too.

Tried the Touchflo 2d patch on my HTC Touch (Tess 2.5). Works great! Not a very useful post, but I am very happy! The closest city I could chose from was 80km away.

I'm not sure how well known this is or if it's been posted yet but for those who are in US cities but can't get their city info to pull up you to have an option without having to do anything more than adding one line of code to your HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml

If you edit your weather xml file in your notepad with a line similar to the one above and then overwrite the one on your device it will pull up your city's info.

idsk great work! had this working on my other PPC however on my mogul with windows 6.1 nothing will work. The htchome.dll seems to be a different version and none of the other ones you've edited previously seem to work with it. Could I bother you to edit this one also? Understand if you're too busy but just figured I'd ask.

Got the cab to install, had to turn off touchflo first, whoops.

I had been trying different ROMs and had to change from ROMs I liked because they were not getting the weather. it may be a small reason to change from a good stable ROm but when you like that feature to work it makes a large matter. :) Thanks a bunch for you work.

It works quite well.

The thing is that I have the same forecast for 3 differents cities located around 30kms from each others.
Originally, I could get only "Besancon" forecast (it is in France). With this method, I'm able to get the "Saone" weather (located at 15km from Besancon which is the main city of the area) but on the weather screen, it is exactly the same forecast whereas on Accuweather it is different.

Is it normal? :confused:

Sorry, I made a confusion !!!

The weather forecasts are actually the same on accuweather, therefore it is normal that they are the same with manilla 2D!!!

my city should too close to the main city of the area!!

Hello all, to all in this thread and the thread owner.. thank you. I have been trying to add on 2 cities, Sevierville TN 37862 and White Pine TN 37890. I placed it into notepad and made the change, then tried to place the modified settyings into windows directory and was unable to over ride even trying to use Total Commander, and no go. :( Any help would be kindly appreciated.

Be carreful : In this cab, proxy is configured to SFR French Provider (wapsfr acces point proxy) and N2A http adress.
