Here's 3 pics I took with the Kaiser. The first one is actually the first pic I took with the phone. I was driving around and saw the Iridium offices and took a pic. The second is a pic of our first snow this winter, and the third is a picture of the Christmas tree I setup at my business.

I loved Australia when i went. I went for an ambassador trip and went all over Australia i have to say its a beautiful country. Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra. Awsome places to go. And its sad to see a dead kangaroo in the middle of the road. And when i went to get into a car. I totally went on US passenger side. I was embarrased thats an awsome picture.

Sure does look like a mid 90's Chevy Caprice... The other cars appear to be a late model Ford Crown Vic (Or Mercury Grand Marquis), and the SUV appears to be a Jeep Cherokee. The Caprices are fun to drive though. You ever drive one with the police package on it? Lots of fun...

Relax, the dog just stuck his head through one of the holes in the wall. Look one hole to the left and you can see the dog's back. I'm sure the dog is just fine.

I use nadavi good camera (the one from 22 jan 08) on the stock AT&T Tilt 8925 ROM (although I did update the radio to 1.27.12.17), shoot option as half press, shutter sound off, contrast +2, saturation +4, hue +3, sharpness + 2, -0.5 to brightness, auto white balance (although this really isn't the best option in a lot of pics)

No, its the flicker adjustment. Its supposed to compensate for the artificial lighting around you to eliminate the 'strobing' effect of mains lighting indoors, as it will produce weird artifacts as the CCD is sampling at near the same rate as the lighting giving light/dark lines across the image when snapped.

You see the effect when looking at a TV through the viewfinder, most TV's are 60Hz.

US = 60Hz mains frequency and most others are 50Hz. :)

thanks for the little lesson. then how come at best buy they have those new 120Hz TV's but they're just 120fps. thats why i thought Hz was the same thing as fps.

Soz, mikeey, I don't want you to think I am getting at you (please?)

Hz and fps for TV's is classed as the same... (Hz = frequency = pulses per second in anything!) but the 'flicker' compensation for a digital camera is specifically for the background artificial lighting compensation.

I only used the 'TV' analogy to show what happens when viewing a certain "flicker' via that cam. :)

Well, with a DOD registered vehicle it could be registered anywhere. It looked like the stickers I used to have when I had a gov't job and my cars were registered on Quantico (Except mine were green, and colorblind guards would always salute me because they thought it was blue....) Anyway, it looked like it ended in ico, so I thought it was Quantico...

Her owner brings her up the pub with him and she goes from table to table being made a fuss of and getting treats and snacks!

He takes her shooting too. He told me that she learned to retrieve simply by watching the other hunters' dogs. Once she'd seen a couple of them bring a bird back, she instinctively knew what to do. Smart dog.

Right now don't have time to cook, but am enjoying the great cooking job by people over here (its nice being a consumer and not a chef for awhile :D). The VistaMobile v1.1 rom I'm running now by Confused Stu is very much like my XM6 roms on Wizard :)

Ok, back to the topic at hand. Here's a 3MP image of Pikes Peak I took and then a 1MP image I took (the 1MP is with Zoom 2x so not an exact comparison.). Both were taken from the same spot and just a minute or so apart.

I grew up 1/4 mile from the southern edge of Quantico MCB. As teenagers we used to take 4wd trucks on the tank trails just 1/2 mile away. last time I was on those trails a friend had just bought a new Toyota truck. He got it stuck in the first hole. Looked quite innocent, was about 5 feet wide and only about 3 feet accross. Who would have guessed that it was about 4 feet deep. He lost the whole front end of his truck in the hole, and had to have someone else pull him out.

Hi.

Yes, the China pics were taken with my AT&T Tilt. It was after the "first" update to the Camera app (Navi -something...sorry forgot). I have since updated to the newest Camera app, and I didn't really compare with before (didn't go anywhere for me to take some pics). I did nothing to the pics. Granted, I posted only the GREAT ones. Lots of them turned out way worse.

The thing that I noticed was that when my Tilt was new, my Camera lense cover was nice and clean but it still had a thin plastic film over the hard plastic cover. But, as time went on, the clear plastic film or whatever started to rub off. And for a period of about a month, I had really crappy pics. But, I always rub the lense with my shirt before taking pics, and by the time I took the China pics the "film" completely rubbed off, leaving, again, a nice clean camera lense cover. But it was even better than new, because the whole plastic thin "film" was completely rubbed off.

My setting was:

Full Press
Flicker 50 hz
Contrast 4
Sat 4
Hue 3
Sharpness 4 or 5 I forgot.
White Balance: Auto
Brightness -1 to -0.5 depending

Again, the thing that makes the MOST difference, is having a clean Camera lense cover. Mine went from clear, foggy (plastic film starting to come off), to clear again (after I continuously rubbed the Camera lense cover for like a month).

Edit: By plastic cover I mean with the battery cover on. I never take pics with it off, it's just too dangerous! But make sure the inside camera lense cover is clean too. When you start rubbing the outside cover you will notice it goes from clean (new) to hazy to clean again (hazy plastic film rubs off).

Edit: I have OEM rom, and OEM radio, everything OEM.

What is the newest camera app? I've just found this over at Modaco and since it's a cab that also installs the Album so you can access it from the camera I think it's nice: http://www.modaco.com/content/htc-kaiser-kaiser-modaco-com/268621/rom-tlr-kaiser-21-05-08-winmo-6-1-htc-final-based-cf-3-5-more/ (under optional but recommended with red)

I checked my Camera app, and it says it's Version 5.04 (Build 29195).

But, again, the China pics were taken with the Camera app OLDER than my current one, but newer than the OEM. I believe it was the first unofficial upgrade from "Navi" <-- user? Sorry I'm pretty new.

I have no read everyone else's rant posts about EXIF data...

My panoramas look like that on my Tilt. The coloring is off between images, but they do stitch OK.

On top of that, I only used the Tilt panorama feature once, and immediately went back to using the Panorama software in Microsoft Digital Image Suite. It just works better.

These are two images I took with my phone while using Luis Espinosa's Trackme utility for GPS tracking.

The reason it's important is because...unlike what you say, it's not just that I or someone else is "frustrated with a crappy camera" because...remember...we all have the same camera here because we all have the same phone.

So if one person is taking amazing pics, then the entire community deserves to share in that.

Since we have the same hardware

I agree that the photos look amazingly clear, to the point of questioning their source. Especially when compared with existing photos that we have taken. There is probably a better way of saying "Prove it" though.

They are beautiful photos nonetheless. Since you are taking such great shots, share with us what you have for a Camera app, and what settings you are using so that we can use the same settings.

alc630
10th June 2008, 08:59 PM
That's fine. That's why I explained that I linked the images from Flickr.

Then I attached the pics on xda.

Then I put print screened the exif data.

Then I put the pics in the zip files.

I also stated my settings.

I also stated which updates I did.

I think I have shown that I WANT to share the setup with everyone.

But you straight out accused me of something. At least things are cleared up now.

Edit: Look to my 1st post. I have all my settings in there. And subsequent posts, I posted my Camera app for the China pics, and my current Camera app. I also explained that the most important thing that I did was to rub off the thin plastic film on the camera cover (battery cover). Take a picture with and without the battery cover, with MY settings, with MY camera app upgrade, and you will see that, AGAIN, the "setting" that makes the MOST difference, is the have a CLEAN camera cover. I assume no one else rubbed of the thin plastic film on the camera/battery cover. If you did, you will notice that, like I said before, it will become hazy.....then it will rub off completely....leaving you with a better than new clean camera cover (on the battery cover).

exif data is supposed to be the most transparent and least painful way of proving it.

no one just took into account that there are several things that can inadvertently wipe out the data (e.g., upload service); personally, I wasn't aware that was possible (especially since you wouldn't think that xda itself would not preserve the data), so that left the only possible of manual removal.

sorry. But it was a perfect storm against you, lol

alc630 is completely right. Look at the photos attached (they all look bad anyway, as I was just testing his idea). There are two sets of two photos, one taken without the back cover, the other one with. I believe I don't have to say which is which. Same settings, taken one minute apart.

That's why in good phone cameras like Sony's Cybershots and Nokia's, besides having a much better and bigger lens, the lens is outside. There is no shitty cover. I'll try to remove the coating of the cover (there actually seems to be one). It should improve things a lot. Although this doesn't "cover" the fact that the Kaiser camera's quality is well bellow what should be expected from a phone as complete and as good as this.

-upload failed: but this is a simple test anyone can do.

alc630
10th June 2008, 09:47 PM
Actually I took all the pictures WITH the backcover on. None of my pics were taken with the back cover off.

But again, it just shows how the lighting, and everything else affect the Kaiser's cameras, including the backcover cleanliness.

I took those more recent pics to test the quality when compared to the China pics, because I had a different version of the Camera app in the China pics.

The thin plastic "film" won't come off easy. It took mine about a couple weeks to a month for it to completely rub off. I didn't really expect it to come off, I just have a habit of rubbing the lense clean with my shirt before every picture. But eventuall it came off and my pictures got way better than any setting could do.

mbernstein
10th June 2008, 09:54 PM
I understand that you took the photos with the cover. I proposed a very easy test that anyone can do that confirms what you said. The difference of the photos I took should be greater than just removing the coating (as I removed the cover itself) like you did, but this method proves your point nonetheless. Thanks.

Look at this picture above, because the exif data is still there we can know right away that this was not taken by a kaiser camera (unless he intentionally altered the data). It was taken by a canon EOS 40D. You don't have to go a long way of proving it. Anyway your case is understood because of some third party mechanism or filtration, your exif data were wiped out w/o your knowledge. I advise that you use imageshack or other medium next time you upload your pics.

Now it wouldn't happen to be the fact that we all are not aware of if there is some protection plastic covering the lens - you know like the plastic that often is on phonescreens that many people tend to keep on to protect against scrathes...?

I don't think you're getting the point exactly...if you download that picture and zoom it in, you will get a pixelated one because that was already resized.

The metadata tags defined in the Exif standard includes:

Date and time information.

Camera settings. This includes static information such as the camera model and make, and information that varies with each image such as orientation, aperture, shutter speed, focal length, metering mode, and ISO speed information.

A thumbnail for previewing the picture on the camera's LCD screen, in file managers, or in photo manipulation software.

I tried to clean the lenscover with my shirt and as written earlier in this thread it became blurry... But I didn't have the patience to keep cleaning so I took a cottonstick (you know the one you can clean your ears with... ;) ) and put it in some ethanol and then wiped the lenscover with that.

It did the trick! The blur has gone and the lens is clean!

Of course as always: Use this advice at your own risk :)

Complimenting the last post, I searched the net and found a tip to use BRASSO. I used a clothstick and put a drop over the cover plastic "lens" for a minute or so. Then I wiped it up with clean cloth, some water, then cloth again.

Now daylight photos with and without cover are pretty much alike. Very small differences. Interior night shots, with the cover are blurrier than without, as if out of focus. I am gonna keep testing.

The Brasso idea worked for me, but repeating the guy before, do it at your own risk.

Note the rear view mirror. If you know the stadium being built, you know the one in the mirror.

You got me... I couldn't help but take pictures of this monstrosity!!

The paint is called "Chameleon" (very expensive) I talked to the owner, he spent $30k on the paint and body work!! He wouldn't even tell me how much he spent on the suspension mods, and wheels and tires! He owns the tire store and this is his dispaly, it gets lots of attention! had it been a two door I would hate the guy for doing that to it. But being a four-door it would have just been salvaged for parts for someone's two door. So he actually saved the car!

Giant Stadium?, dude, not even close... but score one point for Coyote Ugly. I got an ass whoop'n (literally) by the chick dancing on the bar. It was part of getting a "body shot". If your good and keep your hands to yourself, they pull out a leather belt and perform corporal punishment on ya.
