I believe it does. Because if you start the program with out any data connection it will exit out. And if you are trying to go on a trip and need directions or are trying to follow the map it wont update unless you have a constant data connection.

Maybe in canada it doesnt work...I tried in NYC and it worked. Not really accurate but good for emergencies i guess :)

Are you using a Custom ROM?

Because I hear that some Custom ROMS have the AGPS feauture disabled. This is what is used for cellular traingulation ( using the towers )

It's my understanding that Sprint doesn't use towers to locate position, so you can't use the Mogul to report your location with towers...you would have to use the GPS.

Works great with or without cell signal and easy to install and fix.

Is there any GPS program that doesnt require a data connection? Some that have a local Maps database. I have GPS receiver but i dont have a data plan so can't use google maps. Any suggestion? PathAway is one of them but that thing so complicated to use..and expensive

Yes there is. I personally use Tom Tom Navigator 6. This is ONLY the GPS software. I believe the other versions of Tom Tom have the software and a bluetooth GPS receiver in the package ( more expensive ).

You can also use the GARMIN GPS software. I believe it is a little bit cheaper on the price then Tom Tom, but It might lack some features.

I'm sure there are others but those two I believe these are the most known / used.

Actually I find the Garmin has more features than the Tom Tom.
and the latest version of XT has a much better addressing system as far as finding addresses.

I live in a Rural area where roads sometimes have two names because two routes join together....

Tom Tom doesn't recognize one or the other route and will sometimes only take the lesser known route as input instead of the major roadways designation.

Both are great navigators though...I just prefer the garmin.

The original version of google maps doesnt use cellular triangulation (towers / agps) the NEW Beta Version does. Also if you don't like Google Maps you can also use Microsoft Live Search.

To get the New Google Maps Beta w/ Cellular Triangulation go here:
http://www.google.com/gmm/mylocation.html?hl=en

If you want Microsoft Live Search Mobile visit:

ls.windowsmobile.com on your cell phone via your designated browser.

Enable Location On instead of 911 on your cell phone first.

You can go to the dialer and press the menu button -- options -- services -- location setting and press GET SETTINGS and enable Location on.

The go to start -- settings -- system -- external gps : make sure that on the programs tap that COM4 is set on the GPS program port menu. On the hardware tab chose NONE as the GPS hardware port menu and for the baud rate choose 4800. Finally on the access tap check the Manage GPS automatically box

All that is to set the GPS to work on GPS software (tom tom, google maps, microsoft live search ......)

Now to the Tom Tom part.

Once Tom Tom is installed and still doesn't get a GPS signal you must then configure the GPS to work with Tom Tom.

Initialize Tom Tom. Go to the Change Preferences Tab ( menu tab that looks like a wrench)

Look for the Show GPS Status Icon ( it is a Satellite ) then click on it.
Once in click on the Configure Tab on the lower left side.

Select the Other NMEA GPS Receiver when you try to select a GPS Receiver : then once selected you will be prompted to change the baud rate ( make sure it is 4800 ). Once you click done you will have a menu stating " GPS is Connected to" and you must choose COM 4:

Now your done.

The bad thing about the GPS in our TITANS / 6800's is that it is not always running and it needs to warm up / initialize first in order to get a signal in any application.

You can either wait until it picks up a signal or download a program to help you initiate the GPS receiver when you want to use Tom Tom.

I'll provide you a program that helps initialize the GPS and then launches Tom Tom for you. ( This saves time trying to warm up the GPS and then looking for the Tom Tom app and running it)

Dont get irritated if Tom Tom doesn't recognize the GPS right away it might take less then a minute when you are in your car or are in sight of the clear sky. Tom Tom doesn't seem to work well in doors.

I hope this helped you out abit.;)

If you rather choose another GPS warm up / initializing software you can research on your own. Im just supplying you with something that works only with Tom Tom.

Once you download the software extracted in your computer....and copy the software to your device not the SD card - \windows\start menu\programs

This is not a CAB it is an executable.

So if I read this right, you want to use a GPS-like function that doesn't use GPS satellites. You want to use cell towers to do triangulation. Navizon makes a product:

http://www.navizon.com/navizon_v-gps.asp

It can provide GPS data output but it does triangulation via cell towers and wifi access points.

ya I downloaded what I thought was the "new beta" but it doesn't indicate it's a beta on the site when you're downloading it an the version doesn't really indicate that either but in the app there is a my location but it says it's not currently available.

What version are you using? Mine is 2.0.1.17 and it does not appear to work with triangulation from cell towers.

On the page where you download it, it mentions that it is BETA. But the CAB doesnt actually say that it is BETA.

My version is 2.0.0.12. It seems like an older version than yours but it just recently came out. I am inside of a building not using the GPS receiver and mine is using the cell towers. It is abit inaccurate because it is about half a street away from my current location, but hey close enough with out the use of GPS.

Do you have the GPS enabled leaked ROM?

If you dont check your GPS settings in google maps and on the External GPS options on your phone. Make sure they are properly configured.

Do you have the GPS enabled leaked ROM?
I'm now using dcd's new 1.7.0 rom with wm6.1 but still on 1.40 radio (so no gps)... whole point of wanting to get this to work is so I wouldn't have to install the 3.27(buggy-as-all-hell) radio. I could care less about pinpoint accuracy, but general vicinity location would be awesome and that's what the "My Location" feature is supposed to do.

... check your GPS settings in google maps and on the External GPS options on your phone. Make sure they are properly configured.
What does external GPS have to do with My Location??? It's supposed to work without GPS ... don't have external gps and internal is disabled because I'm using 1.40 radio... so all settings for external gps are disabled...

still confused here... are people on non-3.27 radio getting "My Location" to work or not?

Are you sure? To find your locations on Google Maps with GPS or AGPS you don't click my locations unless it has been saved to it. You press USE GPS and it will look for your locations either with GPS or AGPS. It might take a while but it works. If it doesnt it might be cause AGPS is disabled on your rom. I know DCD enabled it in his new 2.3.1 im not sure if it is on yours. But It does work you just need to play with the settings.

Everything I was referring to was to help out people with leaked GPS enabled ROMS. You should of stated that you needed help with a ROM with out GPS and we would gladly offer assistance if we can find a solution.

Once again everything I stated was referring to the leaked GPS ROM. Although it states "EXTERNAL GPS" it still needs to be configured to work with the internal GPS if it is enabled. This is where you configure it. Since you dont have the leaked GPS enabled ROM you dont need to assign a COM port you need to make sure that it is set to NONE and check the box on the Access tab. Also Make sure you have Location On not the 911 setting on your phone

I had cellular triangulation work on my stock Verizon Rom when I bought it and it still works on my Custom ROM with the 3.27 Radio. You just need to play with the settings to learn at times.
