View Full Version : Does your volume button rattle like it's loose?

I know sounds a bit silly, but when I move my $750 TC the volume button on the left side seems to jiggle. It makes a noise like a cracker jack toy. It's annoying to me, but if any and everyone else notice I would not feel so bad about it.

The same problem with my volume button. I was surprised when I discovered where that silly sound comes from. Not acceptable for such an expensive device.

Can only hear it slightly if you shake the device voilently. Can see it becoming a little looser over time.

Though I was the lucky one. Guess not.
I agree that this is totally unacceptable.
Looks like HTC just don't want to make a 100% perfect device. At least one little problem exists here or there (besides the driver issue).

Mine too, actually noticed it right after I took it out of the box. Problem is I like this phone the most out of all of the ones I've had so far, so I tend to over look it.

HTC seems to love making loose devices. The TyTN II hard key face plate on the front is very loose too. Nice to know that selling my TyTN II to try and get away from shotty workmanship was for nothing as it seems to be following me.

yup it is a shame. my 555€ cruise sounds like a cheap toys.
Also the power button doesn't look that strong.

Loose here as well, not THAT bad, yet loose. Does not make you feel very confident about its quality, does it?

Actually my problem is that the bloody volume button is loose but is very hard to budge up or down so I can never do it when I am using the phone.
The slider seems to be very stiff. I tried to move it backwards and forwards to loosen it up but didn't help at all.

Man, they just had to make sure htey included something that sucks on their devices didnt htey? honestly, what were thney thinking?
#1 it's loose and makes that noise
#2 I can't use my thumb to go up or down because the sliding mechanism is tight and when i push it it just does not want to go
#4 i end up using my nail which is going to cause it to pop off. I can already fit part of my stylus under there and my finger nail!!!

I was saving up for a Touch Cruise, because I thought it was something I'd really like, but after reading all these posts about quality issues with things feeling loose and screens making sounds and above all the driver issues, I have to say that my faith in HTC is starting to fade.
I can't justify paying that much money for something that's having as many issues as this. It's a shame. Here's hoping for a US version of the LS20 with 3G.

My T.C. arrives tomorrow. I'm not liking what I'm hearing about this defect. Seems alot of you have this issue. So do I understand correctly, the slider is tight and somewhat hard to move, but the button attached to the slider rattles and appears loose? I hope it's the part attached to the slider and not the slider itself. In the past I have applied a very small drop of super glue on loose or creaky parts on diff phones I have had. It is a small enough drop that it holds the loose part but can be undone if neccessary with minimal effort and wear and tear. Do you think this would be a feasible solution? Also , is the volume slider for in call volume only, because I usually set mine to highest and leave it, as this is what works the best for me. Of course if htc gave us better quality for the big bucks we hand over...ahh, but I'm digressing.

The rattle does not bother me at all, I hardly notice it.
But the slider is simply unusable with one hand. I could not move it with my thumb or my index finger while holding the phone. The slippery surface did not help. The only way to move it is to use the other hand to push or grip it using finger nails! :(

I have the same sound on the slider too and I have check with the service person and they said that its part of the build... so disappointing!
Would like to check with you all if you are also having "un-glueing" sounds like scratching sounds when you press on the START menu bar on the top of the TC? I think this is more for HTC sets rather than O2 (but I would be interested to know if O2 is affected as well).
This is apparent after charging and heavy WiFi, 3G use where the top part of the set is fairly warm. It seems that when the top part expands, the screen has this unglueing sound and I suspect that this is a defect rather than a build issue.

Well, after all the complaints here type of "so expensive, and creaks here, pops there".... babies.
Yeah, it's €550, and yeah, for me too that's alot of money. But i'd rather have this than pay 50% more, without the creaks and not be able to choose what proggies i use. (i'm of course referring to the price of an official iPhone without contract)
- top-of-the-screen: yeah, when i hold it to my ear and press on the silver part (the part ABOVE the touch-screen)
- rattling volume button: yeah, it rattles.....when you shake it like a baby shakes a rattler
- hard to change volume: yeah, ok, i'll give you that, but it's easier to pull the button down than push it up (for up i put my fingernail against the center "thingie")
- the back that creaks: yeah, pushing just left of the camera....who's ever gonna do that every time (except to demonstrate it)
- the click of the wheel: mine does it when i click right, as far as i can notice abit the same "problem" as the volume button
That's quite a list, i agree, but none of those things bother me in my day2day usage of the TC. Functionality-wise it's as good as i could wish for.
The sw problems that's not htc's fault......, well, except maybe that driver "issue", but again, in day2day usage, not an issue at all.
Could htc have done a better job? Yeah, probably.
Would it be at the same price? No, probably not.
Would i be willing to buy it at that higher price? Certainly not.
Summing it all up: it's a marvel.
Just my 5c.

Well, if all these little issues were on EVERY SINGLE TOUCH CRUISE EVER FRACKING MADE then maybe your post would be relevant. But it doesn't look like it's with everyones. Perhaps they just didnt do enough to make it as solid. It's called quality control and they are not that great at it.

I hope yours doesn't have it - but do let me know I am interested to find out if other people are having the same problem.
It doesn't surprise me if the s710 has it and now the Crusie, since HTC probably makes 90% of all the WM devices in the market.

Yeah, one has to wonder about their quality control. I've had my TC for only about 30 hours now and I am pleased that as yet I do not have most of the issues that have been mentioned. Right out the box it seems very tight. The volume slider is firm but fine and not at all hard to move, I noticed it doesn`t actually move and stay moved , as it slides back to a center spot in the groove. I do have to admit that the little button on the sliding mechanism does appear loose. At this point it is not a big deal. If it becomes one I may glue it or somehow afix it so it cannot rattle. The volume is easily adjusted with the stylus from the screen obviously, however while on a call I could see this being an issue for some. I keep my volume quite high and leave it there usually anyway. Over all I am very pleased with the t.c. and am glad I got it.
I will say this: I agree 100% build quality is lacking with most devices today. However, I am used to doing simple mods, some crude but most very effective, to almost all my devices. To stop creaks, groans, loose batt doors etc. I never expected the T.C. to really be any diff in this regard....cheers

So, ummmm, what makes you think your post is more "relevant" than mine? Do you maybe believe that complaining about it on a forum will make your device better?
Do something like e.g. return it to the shop, demand a new one, .....demand to have the device in your hands BEFORE you go back home.
If you want things to get better, this is not the place to keep rattling on about it. Take an example from the video driver issue, startup your own website, demand better QC, ......, or even better, start your own PDA company. :p
