[03/09/08] iStyle... The gesture and finger friendly HYBRID theme... EZ install!

I made this theme a while back and decided to share it with this community in thanks for all the apps, programs, etc that are donated to us. I originally this theme with WAD, but I wasnt getting the results that I wanted, nor the speed. Then I came across this lightweight and speedy program called ultimatelaunch. It is by far my favorite GUI so far, very lightweight, simple, fast and customizable. It has some minimal flaws, but Ive tried my best to get it as efficient as possible for ease of use with one hand. You have all probably seen the AURORA and CUBE themes, which are pretty awesome as well, but this is a lot different. Each button along the bottom rom is a tab that responds to a page and title. Each page is customizable with included icons for various apps and progs. However, if you want it to look like the picture, then follow instructions to the T and you should run into no problems. The overall look of this theme is similar to an iPhone, but shows the power and benefit of WinMo and adds some style that cant be compared... Enjoy!

!!! Make sure you have the standard HTC dialer w/o video. The cab is only graphic files so that you can revert back to the original after an uninstall.



INSTALL:
1. Download THIS (http://rapidshare.com/files/98296951/iStyle.zip) zip file (thanks to Moe5508) and install the file in order (0-9)
2. Go to start-settings-today-items and uncheck each item except for ultimatelaunch
3. Take it for a test drive

!!! All the animations, icons, and backgrounds are customizable. There are extra wallpapers and icons included, soo get creative and original ;)

!!! All the shortcuts will be different on your device, to change them, hold your finger on a tab at the bottom of the today screen to pull up the menu. Click "Settings" - Pick the desired tab and click "Change" - Highlight "Apps" - then click "Change" - Pick the icon you want to change its shortcut. Its all rather self explanitory, but im trying to make this "NEWB" proof so I dont have to babysit this thread too much :p if you have any questions pm me.

!!! The batterystatus icons should work just fine. **From left to right** The first icon is the missed call count, clicking it opens the "Missed Calls" The second is voicemail, click it to call your "Voicemail" (To edit your vmail number, Activesync your phone or use total commander to open the "mytheme.xml" with a notepad located in the "/windows/batterystatus" folder. Scroll about 3/4 the page down and change the part that says "123456" to your own phone number) The third is text messages, click it and guess what happens lol. The last is your email, if you click it, it will pull up the account picker if you have multiple accounts like me (btw, the icons glow when something comes in)

!!! If anyone knows how to fix the clock from saying 0:00 at midnight, please let me know. thats the only thing i cant figure out, ive friggin looked EVERYWHERE!

the icons are sized at 50 pixels... make sure to set that individual icon to 50+ for both parameters.

I went into the UltimateLaunch.ini file and changed teh font to arial

restarted, now it works.


can we get a zip of your start menu links too? I see you have alot of nifty shortcuts instead of me having to find each program myself. like the text.lnk mms.lnk etc.

sorry everyone... i kinda passed out for a bit. ummmm, as far as i know, there shouldnt be any problems copying over the ul folder, if i recall the font on my theme is stock. (however, if youve changed your system font, you might have to change the .ini file in "program files/ultimatelaunch")

soo whoever thinks its unprofessional might not like ul :rolleyes: (i mean, the font is outlined with black to make the white easier to read, but thats the only portion thats changable as far as i know. if you are referring to the picture... it doesnt have the font like it does at the bottom of the picture. the icons, are the bottom.

as far as shortcuts, i might be able to post up all my shortcuts, because i use some really cool programs i found (like the "favs" and "games" section, all in grid view, no lists! :D) this part might have to be tonight though, i plan on releasing a movie as well in case there are some other things ive done to my phone that you all might like.

as far as a picture dialer side. i use the favs button to pull up "VS Contacts"
the button used to launch the contact side of the cube, which was neat, but I think VS Caller is better in some areas... but for you, ill post a fav five plugin that i have... its the best i can do.

another issue I found is going form landscape to portrait. it icons don't get drawn back correctly.


once you rotate your screen and the scroll bar appears, the totally screws up the alignment when putting it back to portrait.

this is not because of your skin, but primarily an issue with UL.

your phone may not have enough memory (my g/f had the same issue with her wizard)... ive found that if you turn the page a couple times before switching... it will switch back just fine. but youre right, it is a flaw of ul... i will be porting this theme over to wad once the new version comes out. but for now, try and make sure to free up as much memory on your device as possible...

Hi, I tried to use this theme, which seems good looking, but none of the shortcuts (expect camera) are working here.
Maybe that's due to the fact that I'm using a WM6.1 ROM, but well, UL default shortcuts are working fine.

its there... unzip the folder anywhere, copy it, and find the folder in the windows directory and copy it over

to prevent that in the future... you have to go turn folder option on you computer and turn off hide system folders, and hide hidden files... its one of the two... but glad you found the fix for it

go to the ul settings... go to the "font" tab... uncheck the "text two colored" box... save... then repeat this option and turn it on

a lot of the apps i used i paid for, but to name a few... vscaller, resco explore, spb plus, opera web browser, s2p (slide 2 play), vspaint, resco picture, xm radio, mobi tv, tcpmp + flashvideobundle (for youtube), ringo mobile, pocketscreen, s2u2, s2v (slide 2 view) ummm... too many to name... but if you use the search tool at the top of this forum on the brown header... youll find some great stuff. good luck with your device

you have to create a shortcut... and hide it somewhere in your start menu... there should be a thread within the first few pages of "dev and hacking" called "list of .inks"

look that up, itll have everything you need... you can even assign your own icons to the shortcuts :D

did you check to make sure that dcinobar is in your startup folder? ive read that the dcinobar doesnt respond with certain devices... there is another free app that hides the softkeys, you might have to google it? or use the search tool... hope that helps

this is the easiest way to do it... create a shortcut to anything and place it in your root folder... then activesync and drag it to your desktop... right click the shortcut and open it with "notepad" and delete the all the text and copy

you might have to open up your folder options and check see "system files and folders"... and unhide hidden folder... so that you can see the windows

if youre a newb, that might be wayy over your head, but hopefully it helps...

also... to get the shortcut to open up "gmail" or "yahoo!" copy these exact words in place of "SMS" for each shortcut...

Well after 5+ hours of fiddling I finally get it to work the way I like. The best part I like it over others (such as PointUI, iFonz, iTask, spb MS) is the fact this IS the today screen. If I use any of those I have to try very hard either not to hit the red key or have to disable the hbutton (I use the hbutton OK/close function with batterystatus's task manager to close all those non-behaving MS programs) so I don't go back to today screen and have to start the program over. Also I have installed UL twice in the past :D but because of my poor graphic abilities I uninstalled it twice. Now with Michael's design as a starting point, I finally achieved what I want from the first place.

However I do have two questions:
1. How to disable auto minimization? Some times when I wake up the phone, all I see is the header icons at the bottom and I don't see any of the tabs. However one click on any of the headers will bring them back.

2. How to fix the position of the separator? (The line with text in the center). I know I can fudge the size of the margin so those separators on different tabs can align; however when the appointments show up then everything moves. At the end I have to remove all margins and separators but I kinda like to keep them if possible.

as fas as the the headers go, i know that on the office page when an appointment shows, it throws off that specific header, the only option i found to fix this is to put your headers at the top, or to let the header hide behind the bottom docked icons like i do, i know it looks kinda tacky, but it isnt sooo bad. if we are all lucky, we will get a newer version of UL with some minimal fixes like these. Either way though, this UI has been my best experience up until my phone breaking =( thanks again guys and i hope that answers your questions =)

ps- the video and cab i will have to hold off on due to my current phone situation. (the lcd screen is out)

thats true, thats what i use... but i wanted the theme itself to be full featured and FREE lol :D aside from having to pay for UL, which is worth it.

UPDATE:
if you havent seen the dialer that was made by CBUS (thank you soo much!) the dialer is perfect... but i also have custom mortbuttons setup for the games folder and utilities folder... once i have my phone working ill upload the video, set up cab, and easier instructions...

Everything seems to be working but my screen is squished...I think because I still have the stock start menu and bar. And how do you change the font of the clock?

To those of you having install troubles... make sure you dont have any softkeys on your today screen. Also make sure ultimatelaunch is the only active plugin on your today screen. Be sure to soft reset! Also, to take the squished look away, go to the display settings and make sure you set the font to its largest setting... to find this setting go to

start-settings-system-screen-text size

as for the dialer, make sure you have the original htc dialer installed. Soft reset to make sure its installed. Then install the cab... and soft reset again.

Hope that helps some of you... if not, ask away... oh, and there isnt a different clock as of now unless you get a completely different battery status theme

I tried. The screen is all misaligned I think because I still have the stock top start bar, looks different from the one in the theme.
Also, my batterystatus clock has extra parts, I'm going to try to look at the theme file to see if I can find them.
EDIT: Got rid of the extra rows by holding down for the menu to pop up on batterystatus. Loving this complete theme, thanks a lot Michael!

I have the Sprint Touch & it works perfectly ! The only issue Im having is the batterystatus icons dont look like the ones in the screenshots (which are transparent) & the START bar at the very top of the screen hasnt changed (even after numerous resets) ........GREAT THEME !!!!!

very niiice sir! i love how original it is. ill show you the actual theme i use in a video very soon soo that you all can see the true intention i had with iStyle. the unfortunate part is that i dont use very much freeware, which is why the theme is the way its posted. for example, the start bar is a WAD theme... and all my today plugins are SPB products. ive also spent a lot of time creating custom shortcuts with mortbuttons... it all flows quite nicely for the way i use my tilt. however, to those of you using touch devices, it should work with any QVGA wm5/6 device...

I tried. The screen is all misaligned I think because I still have the stock top start bar, looks different from the one in the theme.
Also, my batterystatus clock has extra parts, I'm going to try to look at the theme file to see if I can find them.
EDIT: Got rid of the extra rows by holding down for the menu to pop up on batterystatus. Loving this complete theme, thanks a lot Michael!

as far as a picture dialer side. i use the favs button to pull up "VS Contacts"
the button used to launch the contact side of the cube, which was neat, but I think VS Caller is better in some areas... but for you, ill post a fav five plugin that i have... its the best i can do.

Where can I find VS Contacts? Is it vs contacts or vs caller?

!!! All the shortcuts will be different on your device, to change them, hold your finger on a tab at the bottom of the today screen to pull up the menu. Click "Settings" - Pick the desired tab and click "Change" - Highlight "Apps" - then click "Change" - Pick the icon you want to change its shortcut. Its all rather self explanitory, but im trying to make this "NEWB" proof so I dont have to babysit this thread too much if you have any questions pm me.

Anyone know why when I install everything in order as listed, by the time I get to the Ultimate Launch icons cab. after the soft reset, the PPC won't start back up. It freezes up. I installed everything on the device and not the SD card.

I have no idea what your problem could be...your device maybe? But this works perfectly on my Kaiser...

yea, idk what the problem could be either... for example, it could be your rom... or ul not working with your device orrr a conflict with another software on your phone. all i can recommend is to install everything except for the ul folder cab and make sure ultimatelaunch even installs correct (check by doing a soft reset) and then install the final cab... you might even have to soft reset after each install to target the weak link, but like i said... im not sure, sorry...

also, the update will be posted tonight... i wont have the new video, but ill upload newer screens and install files

this could be from a number of things, id have to see a picture to pinpoint what it is... but, my start bar is apart of wisbar advance, which is seperate from the theme. i dont think this has anything to do with why your icons are overlapping though

As installed there is a "row 4" the battery monitor on the front page, turning that off and everything fits.

There is a minor issue with your today theme which you should probably fix :)

If you get the notification of an SMS in the bottom bar your program only partially puts itself back into the front. The icon for the keyboard on the screen is still visible and overlapping with the middle icon :)

this is one of the only things im trying to sort out for my next release (wifi bar). it should only show up if you tap the phone icon on the far left. if you tap the right half of the icons, it should only be missed calls.

ive just had trouble finalizing things with no internet connection on my laptop or no camcorder to record a video... ill try to post some screenshots, but it honestly wouldnt do the theme justice. thanks to those of you who are still waiting to see the changes. you wont regret it =)

I pretty much use the same apps as I always have, the only difference being Istyle and google maps (thanks to the new mogul Rom update). Everytime I swipe the cube thru all five faces and get back around to the memory icon, it goes down (i.e 18 - 17.9 -17.8 - 17.7, you get the picture). Basically a .10th after every "full" cube rotation. By the end of the day, I'm hovering around 8 hahaha
Anyways, any help would be appreciated.
Still loving the theme though :D

The memory leak is because of metrix more than likely, I think because of it constantly polling for info, it drains the battery and memory a bit. I apologize, I personally have an edition that ill release shortly, because I personally use spb pocket plus in place of metrix. The final release will be out shortly, it incorporates WA (Wisbar Advanced), WAD (Wisbar Advanced Desktop), SPB Pocket Plus, SPB insight, SPB diary, MortButtons, and a different clock... Im going to call it "iStyle M-Series" Itll be a bit more expensive, but to me it makes me happier than any other ui to date... I am running short on time, but it will be released sometime next week... Stay tuned!

PS- Currently, iStyle should work on all qvga device, even if its wm5, wm6, 6.1, and im unsure about wm2003. The next release will be the same.

I've gone through a ton of themes since I got the Mogul a few months back and yours is as close to perfect -functionality, ease of use, coolness factor- as I think we'll see.

I do experience the memory leak but not as much as yours. It would start with 20.5 mb on a fresh soft reset and gradually reduced to around 17 mb or so. Usually this is the point I soft reset. I did let it go for longer sometimes, but generally the memory is not less than 16 mb at the end so I'm pretty happy with the setup.

I have these plug-ins on various tabs: calendar+, hand calendar (for lunar calendar), pocket weather, and matrix. I also have S2U2 with an animated gif as the background and this theme is awesome.

what do you mean by "customize icons" if you mean the shortcuts... you have to old your stylus on the bottom tab row, which will pull up the ul opitions... then pick the corresponding tab... pick the apps section of the tab... pick "change" and from there each icon is listed and customizable... it should be pretty self explanitory from there. hope that helps

First and foremost, many thanks for what seems like an incredible effort and time on your part. Although it does appear to be a work of love, it's still work. :-)

I've been through all the pages of this thread more than once and just wanted to be sure I hadn't missed anything and to see if I could try to better understand what you've done. I'm hardly a newb to computers (over 25+ years) - funny that our phones are actually computers - but this is ALL new to me.

I, like you, use many of the SPB products as well some from RESCO and others. I'm sure these are pretty "dumb" questions in the scheme of things but here they are:

1) I follow the steps to a T - meaning I installed cabs 0-9, soft reset, removed all but UltimateLaunch from the TODAY screen. I had to tweak BatteryStatus (remove a few rows) so that the icons weren't pushed down below the tab icons, but all in all, SWEET, SWEET, SWEET. My wallpaper/theme didn't change to your black/blue design. What did I miss?

2) You say you use a diffferent clock. May I ask which one and how do you "use it."?

3) Am I correct that this is mostly your incredible "tweaking" of UltimateLaunch along with great graphix work? Is Metrix, Calendar+, BatteryStatus necessary for the "pages" and general look? Where is all of your magic located? What I guess I'm trying to understand is how to get the look and feel without the unwanted apps like metrix, calendar+, batterystatus? I understand that step 0 removes the softkeys bar so it doesn't interfere with the tab icons. I understand that UlitimateLaunch provides the underlying functionality, but am I correct that all the layout, etc is withing UL?

4) I had tons more, but realize that you may provide what I am really looking for in your "M" release which I guess I'll just have to be patient for.

5) Did I miss the video or was there a problem in creating it?

I'll end the way I started with tons of thanks and admiration. Well done and I've seen most of the other "stuff" floating around.

to be honest, some of the comments like these is what keeps me moving within this community. ive learned soo much about phones from a lot of ppl here and have found a passion towards what these devices are capable of. so thank you... and to answer your question though, the background has to be changed through the start menu (as normal) you can find the picture within the default photo tool in windows mobile located in the "program files/ultimatelaunch/wallpapers" folder (which should been created after installing the packages.

the spb suite is implented into ultimatelaunch and im still working out some bugs and finishing some ideas for this next release. i imagine that this project will continue to be an ongoing project, lol because as much as i love the way the phone is operating, i still have some ideas im ironing out with animations and haptics feedback. the video is easy, i just want to have a finished product before its created. i cant help but be a perfectionist sometimes

does any one else have the mogul that is using this application that is having a hard time finding the .exe or .lnk when changing the shortcuts??

For example, I can't find the one that opens directly to text messages and NOT "messaging" where all my accounts are.

And i thought it would be cool to find the shortcut for Owner Information so I can use it with the fingerprint XP-icon.

And there are a few others as well but i thought maybe if anyone else wanted to work together to figure out a few?

im using a kaiser with a LOT of apps! to get this to work properly, the footprint isnt too heavy, running memory for me is 60mb, but thats because i have some heavier products on my "m-edition" it shouldnt take more than 10 to 20mb of running memory at most. also, after extracting everything, it shouldnt take more than 10 to 15 mb of permanent memory. someone may want to run tests to verify this.

as for as the short cuts. there is a thread that you can google called "list of .inks" where you can create a regular shortcut, use total commander or resco explorer to open it with a notepad or word processor from the device and past the desired link. save and your done.

ive created a shortcut folder on my sd card so that i can always run from these shortcuts in ul, even when switching roms. i can have my phone good as new in less than 45 mins. hope this all helps

cool cool, i am having a slight problem with the set, nothing shows up on the screen. I have installed all programs 0-9 in order but nothing seems to be working besides the program that hides the softkey bar...

all has only been tested and installed on the device. youd have to experiment and install everything on the sd card, but i cant guarantee results =/

download the icon big pack in another thread, it should have the icon your looking for. im using some of these for my next release... also, for adobe reader, i use the book (to me, its simple and obvious)

Well after 5+ hours of fiddling I finally get it to work the way I like. The best part I like it over others (such as PointUI, iFonz, iTask, spb MS) is the fact this IS the today screen. If I use any of those I have to try very hard either not to hit the red key or have to disable the hbutton (I use the hbutton OK/close function with batterystatus's task manager to close all those non-behaving MS programs) so I don't go back to today screen and have to start the program over. Also I have installed UL twice in the past :D but because of my poor graphic abilities I uninstalled it twice. Now with Michael's design as a starting point, I finally achieved what I want from the first place.

However I do have two questions:
1. How to disable auto minimization? Some times when I wake up the phone, all I see is the header icons at the bottom and I don't see any of the tabs. However one click on any of the headers will bring them back.

2. How to fix the position of the separator? (The line with text in the center). I know I can fudge the size of the margin so those separators on different tabs can align; however when the appointments show up then everything moves. At the end I have to remove all margins and separators but I kinda like to keep them if possible.

Well the theme that michael uses gave me too much headache as I can't control the behavior of the last row, so I use a theme called BerdichevULTRA theme that was found in a Russian forum linked from the BS theme thread. I'm typing in opera mini right now so I can't give you the direct link but I'm sure if you google you'll find it.

iStyle is a great theme. :) Thank you very much. What I miss from it is the phone profile selections that are available from HTC Home plugin.

Has anyone else's phone froze up quite a bit (6 times a day) with this installed. I had it on for 3 months and i loved the features but it froze my phone up.

Then i deleted it all, reinstalled it and same thing. Then finally my phone fried and won't turn on at all..... like won't even entertain the idea.

It may be as simple as the clock using a 24 hour scale. If so the 24 hour scale starts with 12 midnight as 0000 hours. I don't know how to fix it though. Sorry.
