View Full Version : TyTN II BATTERY DRAIN DISCOVERY!!!

As we all know, the TyTN II has some battery issues.
I have discovered the following:

1. I installed and started using MS Voice Command v1.6. Firstly, bluetooth headset didn't work, secondly it drained the battery faster than you can say battery. It is IMMENSELY resource intensive.

2. I proceeded to install Cyberon Voice Command. This ACTUALLY worked beautifully, even bluetooth headset was sweet.....alas, same battery drain problem.

I installed one at a time, then uninstalled and installed the other in case there are some of you who love exercises in the bleeding obvious.

My TyTN II now has no voice command app and my device only uses about 2-3% in standby mode overnight. Before it used to be around 87/88% the following morning!!!!!

Food for thought?

I have the drain problem, seriously, and I don't have any voice software installed, besides the voice recorder and the Cyberon Voice Speed Dial that comes installed as default (unless it is another default and hidden/unknown to me).

So let me get this right. When u started to use voice commander the battery drained real fast, and when you uninstalled it and didnt use it, the battery didn't drain????

Not only when using the app. The app runs in memory when not in use. This background process really chews battery power. MS Voice Command uses 1,5Mb ram in the background, but Cyberon Voice Command uses 163Kb ram in the background, but both chew up battery equally even when idle.

When I uninstalled these apps, the battery usage was back to normal.

It would really help those with a problem what your power draw is. Install Batterystatus and give us an idea on what your mA usage is.

If people are getting significant battery drain, they should return their unit for replacement. In standby mode the kaiser would be drawing no more than 10-15mA. In mild usage, 150-250 mA and with all the bells and whistles running between 300-475 mA.

Thanks for that. I have just installed Batterystatus and my power draw just out of standby is 13mA and mild usage around 120mA - 240mA, but generally around 120mA.

I haven't tested it with bells and whistles yet. (I haven't found a place to hang these on the device....hahahaha, just kidding)

:D hahaha that was hilarious for some reason.

Also, I think my PREVIOUS AT&T Tilt had this problem, as it would get noticeably hotter than my current Tilt. (returned it for a refurb to save $$$)

The only time I noticed a weird battery drain/usage problem was when I was talking on the phone for 2 hours w/ speakerphone...even having it plugged into USB it slowly drained power from 12% to 6%! Is that normal?!

I have seen as high as 700mA draw, but that was running HSDPA, WiFi, GPS, and conducting a 3G voice call over bluetooth. However, when everything is put to sleep I only have a 1% to 2% loss overnight in standby mode.

Are you using a hacked version of MSVC??? I bought mine from MS & I only lose about 3% overnight while connected to the net & still getting my push BBerry messages + MSVC worked right out of the gate for me.

Hell with MSVC while posting right now on a 3G connection my draw is -202mA. 700mA draw sounds like GPS + BT & even then I'm not that high.

I still think it is the phone. I did a test to find out, and it confirmed the problem, check out

Mine's been hurting lately too. ATT just switched on 3g in my area so I think that may be the issue. I can barely get through a full day with out needing a rejuice on a <6th month old phone

And I also updated to the latest HTC rom a few weeks ago
