Haha..im thinking of getting a 8 since the 12gb is nearly double the price..although I usually have a ipod with me and won't be using my phone for a music player (until I have the battery time and sound quality) so i'm not sure what i'm going to use all that space for!

with proper software and drivers the mogul should theoretically be able to use up to 2tb, although ATM the 12gb is the largest available (16s should be out in june)

I'm not 100% sure but I do believe the SDHC spec (which is what allows sizes above 4 GB) has a 256 GB limit.
But that doesn't mean they can't come up with a new spec (SDHC2?) that will go beyond that. By then you will probably have a new phone anyway! LOL

because SDHC uses sector addressing it can go up to 2048gb, AFAIK the largest SDHC card right now is a regular SD at 32gb

What proper software and drivers would I need for a 8-12 GB card. Browsing sites right now for best price on larger card but don't want to waste money on a card that won't work.

i know 8gb works with the drivers in the latest rom (theres a cab floating around too that will install them for 2.09 or earlier)
not sure about 12, if the current drivers cant handle it i doubt it will be long before there is a driver that does

I've upgraded to the new ROM, and got the 8GB card in the mail today. I threw it in my phone, and it works like a dream.
The only credit I will give Micro-whatever, and it pains me to do so, is their plug-and-play capabilities.

man for those 4 extra gb's of space they're trying to charge 3X what i got my 8gb for thats wild might as well get a seperate 4gb for 20 bucks. Amazon sells the 8gb for 50 bucks and 60 i could not justify paying an extra 100 bucks for that :D

I've got an 8GB now, which suits my needs. Wait a year and the 16's be dirt cheap. 32gbs will probably be getting down in price by then too.

I believe that was the limitation of the original ROM(s). The new ROMs support SDHC (High Capacity).

I believe most older stock ROM's supported SDHC up to 4GB, though possibilities are (almost) endless now, with custom ROM's and newer stock ROM's. To whomever spoke of 2TB cards, that's actually going to be SDXC from what I understand.

Ok, since I flashed my rom to 6.1 and can now support higher capacity cards, (16gb currently biggest available) I was very close to buying a 16gb card, but very fortunately and thankfully got a bit of an education from a young snot nosed kid at Fry's Electronics. It seems that all the sdhc cards be it regular mini or micro are rated by class as to what their transfer speeds are....
Class 2 = 2mbytes/sec
Class 4 = 4mbytes/sec
Class 6 = 6mybytes/sec
The only 16gigabyte micro cards available that I have found are only class 2.
I got really lucky when I purchased my existing 4gigabyte card as it is class 6. So now Im looking for a 8gig that is class 6 rated. I want the speed more than the capacity but still need more than the 4 gigs I have. One of the oddities I found is that the big name companies like Sandisk and Kingston don't bother to rate their cards in the specs sections where as others like PNY, Patriot, etc. all do. Makes me go hhhmmmm about why the big names don't? Are they selling Class 2 speeds for the same price as others Class 6 speeds and hoping they can dupe the uniformed into buying the name?? So any way, if anyone knows where I can get an 8gig Class6 preferrebly with a usb thumb adapter inexpensively could you pass it along?

To tell you the truth, I have a full range of cards. 2gb & 4gb class 6, I have a class 6 8gig and a 16 gig class 2. there is not that much noticieable speed difference to me, I use it alot for music, videos and excetera.

Even tho the card is capable of class 6 speeds, that doesn't mean the phone can access it at those speeds. Based on the CPU on the phone, I would guess this is why the next poster mentioned that he saw little difference.

The speeds are more important when writing to the cards, ie taking photos. If you have a DSLR and snap off photos as fast as you can you'll want a card that can keep up with it.

okay so as far as the new dslr cameras then yes you would see a difference in the speed, but I used my 8 gig class two and it could keep up with it. but I guess I am not that into the speed. but as far as for the phone. I did not see any difference

I think you will also notice the speed when u tranfers files using ur computer lets say by putting the card in a card reader... i bet it does make a difference if you are transfering a 700 mb movie

Thanks for the newegg link...just ordered it; and to think i was totally happy with my 8 gb :D
just a few observations as far as speed (comparing my 2 8gb cards one class 2, the other class 6)...
- when transfering music and video to the card directly from the computer the class difference is very noticable
- when the phone is utilizing the card for reaading and writing (playing music or video, using the video camera or accessing large e-mail attachments, etc) there is no noticable difference.
- in writing to the card from the computer via the phone both cards seem about class 2 speed
granted this is totally unscientific, but i think there may be a speed limitation in the phone....either way I like the higher speed just cuz it lets me load movies and music faster.
