Hi All, since a lot of us are getting the shift now, i guess it's time to think about which screen protector you are going to use, personally i always enjoy the Martin Field Overlay Screen protector, but they don't seems to have one for the shift yet, what do you guys think? found any good screen protector you are going to use?

Hi,
My shift was delivered with a screen protector, I have placed it on the first day and it looks really good. There was no brand on it, so I cannot tell about the manufacturer.
So far I am vey satisfied with it.

yes, i am aware of that, it just i have been using HTC for more then 7 years now, past experience told me i better wait for better screen protector, because once you put it the HTC one, it's so difficult to remove it, and if you do try to remove it and swap it with something else, you leave a mark on the screen, some user even experience bend and uneven screen because the original one is just so sticky.

There don't seem to be many screen protectors specifically for the Shift yet, I'm sure there will be soon. I fitted the included one but not very well, I managed to get a couple of dust specks under it.
I've ordered some generic 7" protectors from Durasec http://www.durasec.com/catalog/index.php?language=en
I also ordered one of their liquid nanotech screen protector kits, don't know much about it but it appears to be a liquid which you spray onto the screen to form a seal. Should be interesting...

Hi,
please, give me an answer to a stupid question?
Is it really necessary to apply a screen protector. Why don't the manufacturers do it in the first place.
What are the advantages, what the disadvantages. Okay, protection comes to mind as an advantage, but shouldn't the original screen be resilient enough?
I'd really like to here some informative opinions.
I have been using a HTC Vario II for some time now without any protection and I can't detect any scratches.

Has anyone managed to find a decent screen protector yet?
Pantaloonie - how was the durasec one?

I've received them, but haven't got round to removing the original and trying them out. The liquid one is a bit strange, apparently you spray it on the screen then spread it with the included cloth, and it forms a protective layer.... or something. Think I'll be testing that on a cheaper device first!

mmm. sounds interesting!
I've got the original on but I have a scratch on the screen and wanted to remove it to see if its just the screen protector or the actual screen that is scratched. Have tried in vain to get at it to peel it off...:(
Just managed to get a corner - it came off no problem and thankfully the scratch isnt there! Just need a new protector now, my OCD is starting to kick in. Let me know how you get on with the Duratecs! Cheers

I still haven't tried either of the Durasec ones I bought, as it seems I'll be needing dynamite to remove the original one. It does not want to come off.

I'd leave it on if I were you - I only took mine off as it had a hair underneath and I was losing sleep over it. Took a while but once you get a hold of a little corner it lifts off no problem. I've emailed HTC to ask if they can send me another but I'm notn holding my breath. ;)
Would stay away from the standard Duratec - waste of £8. Let me know if you try the liquid one though!:)

Hi,
today I removed the original Screen and tried Duratec, the cheap screen protector. They have also got a hightec version or something like that.
Crap! Crappier! Crappiest sheet of shit you can think of.
S.
But which one is really recommendable?
Thanks!

How did you remove the original screen protector without damaging the display? What is the problem with the Duratec screens?

Hi,
removal was difficult, but I did it. I don't know the exact English words. I used this sticky tape which you wrap up parcels with, tape is of a brownish colour. That I stuck onto the screen protector until it lifted in one corner.
Duratec is thin and cheap material and I guess it is not possible to get it on the screen without lots of bubbles.
Now I have ordered a protector from Brando, was that the name?
We will see.

I really like the anti glare screen protector from www.pocketpctechs.com . I use it with my both my SMT5800 cellphone and my Motion Tablet PC. I'm hoping I can get one sized for the Shift. But my Shift is not here yet so I don't know the size. I can't even tell I have a screen protector with this brand.

Hi,
any news about the "best" protector.
In the meantime I have abused 4 or 5. Duratec's cheap ones aren't of any other use than to clean the screen from dust particles.
I tried the Brando "ultra clear" was that the name? Relativ easy to apply, but in the end I fiddled with it too long. Had to peel it off.
Next I tried Brando "plus". Easily to apply, but foil slipped underneath the edge of the screen, when lifting it up to clean off a piece of fluff the protectors edge was damaged.
But the last one is really easy to apply. But, but, they or the distributers just declared them to be for the Shift, originally they are for the eee, how many eeeees were there?
So the screen protector doesn't really fit. At the edges there the foil doesn't cover about 1 or 2 millimeters of the Shift's screen.
Maybe somtime soon they will sell a protector that is for the Shift.
Please, if anyone has got the ultimate protector mention it here:
perfect fit and easily to apply would be nice features.

I partially screwed up my screen protector trying to remove a couple specks of dust. The bottom edge was slighly under the bezel and crimped up as I was removing it. It doesn't look good but still works ok so I'm going to wait for the overlayplus ones.
I emailed them yesterday to ask if they would make one available, and they replied they would, as soon as they got a unit to take measurements off.

I just fitted mine. I ordered two, knowing how incompetent I am at fiddly jobs. It was quite easy, but I still screwed it up first time, getting dust and all sorts of crud onto the adhesive side. Easy to avoid, I should imagine, if you are not a total klutz. Second, ultra-careful attempt went fine.
OK, so the headlines are:
- original one comes off easily and cleanly, once you can get the corner up, for which I just used my fingernail
- MF overlay plus seems glossier. this worried me, because until I booted up, I thought it might suffer from glare
- I guess the MF overlay must be clearer (more highly transparent) than the original, because I am sure that I now have a higher contrast, crisper screen. It makes it a little closer to my old Sony Vaio TR5 (XBrite screen) in appearance. That too is very shiny, but excellent in practice.
I'll write more, if I use it outside, where glare might be an issue.

I have the delivered protector on my shift but I already ordered an other protector over ebay.
Is it really so difficult to remove the old protector? What is the best way to remove it without any residues?
edit: I ordered this: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&item=170225648386

This is one is great! It is as good as a brando protector and a very good manual and a polishing cloth were included. :)

I've been using the regular screen protector that came with the Shift without any problems. However, i was getting annoyed with lots of glare, and needing to have the brightness up higher to drown it out (reducing battery life).
So, i got a 3M privacy screen (one side is anti-glare) and cut it down to the size of the Shift screen. It sits really nicely just inside the bezel and does a great job of cutting out glare. I can now turn the brightness down all the way on a flight and get nearly 4 hours continuous battery life.
I don't bother to stick it or fix it to the screen as it just rests on the edge of the bezel.
The touchscreen is still a little bit usable too. Not perfect by any means, but you can drag the page in IE and select windows. It works pretty well on the WM6 side actually.
