Download the free WM 2003 version of pointui here http://forums.pointui.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=858

it is amazing a scrolling interface with wrappers for most of the standard functonality. Works like a dream for thos who like the way Iphone scrolls and uses finger rather than pointers. A complete interface

Screenshots just do not do this justice, the finger interface using point and slide has to be tried. For those who are curious, just do a search for Pointui and screenshots to see why we are so enthusiastic. Note for best installation you need to install the WM5 version even though it does not run on the XDA2i and then download the WM2003 zip and overwrite the files in the directory created by the wm5 install with the 2003 ones. You can choose whether to go for the Blue or the Black theme when you download the WM5 version, if you choose the black one then dont copy the Home.cdl across as the wm2003 one in the zip has the blue theme in its home.cdl.

That last message seems really complicated to a novice like myself.

I have an XDA 11i - can I just follow the link and let it download to my phone ??

robsno
29th March 2008, 06:11 PM
it will run if you just download from http://www.pointui.com/files/tests/1.02b/2003/1/home.ppc2003.zip and unzip in a directory but ideally you should install the WM5 cab first ( http://www.pointui.com/Home.aspx ) and then overwrite the appropriate files with the ones from the 2003 zip. Good Luck Rob

OK here goes, click on the link http://www.pointui.com/Home.aspx and click on the download icon on the top left of the screen under the word home. Then on the screen that appears click on the button near the bottom that says "download cab installer" Copy the file to the main memory of your XDA and then double click on it. You will see it install. This has installed the WM5 version on the XDA. Next step is to click on this link http://www.pointui.com/files/tests/1.02b/2003/1/home.ppc2003.zip and download the zip file, this is an archive file and will need to be decompressed if you are using windows XP or vista, or a MAC this will be done when you double click on it and you will see 4 files Home.exe, home.cdl, pointui.cdl and pointui.fonts.cdl these 4 files need to be copied on top of the ones installed by the cab file ie select the 4 files and navigate on the xda to Program files directory, then to pointui directory, then to home 1.02b directory and paste in there. Easiest to do for you using windows fie manager while the XDA is syncing as the xda is visible a drive. Hopefully this makes more sense to you.

Very detail walk through & very fast and furious.

There is one problem. wouldn't unlock screen after you lock it. anyone experience it? How to overcome?

robsno
30th March 2008, 12:45 PM
You have to swipe your finger vertically down the screen to unlock ie along the line of arrows.

Robsno -thanks very much for taking the time to write the detailed explanation -I really appreciate it.

However I just don't have the knowledge to follow MOST of the instructions .

I will have to wait for a simple CLICK HERE option to arrive - the ones that just load it onto your XDA with no messing.

Sorry but THANKS anyway.

After reading the reviews of this I thought it was about time I had a go at changing the xda2i from the original settings it came with nearly 18 months ago. I have to say it is just like have an iPhone now absolutely fantastic interface. Thanks for the simple instructions. Although after several resets of the xda2i nothing happened until I browsed through the folder structure in Program files\pointui\home\1.02b and clicked the home icon, then it sprang in to life. Anyone should be able to follow your instructions with a little knowledge of how to navigate around the xda2i. Thanks for the tutorial.

Currently the WM2003 version does not yet but internationalization is in testing for the WM5 version at the moment (see the support section of the pointui forum) and will go in the next release for WM2003, you should not have long to wait.

It's a really really sweet interface - however, I am not sure which one to download from the home website as they are now up to v1.51a but it's an xml based install....

the xmlfiles are inside a CAB, just copy the CAB to the XDA and run it.

17th May 2008, 08:38 PM
When I try to execute the CAB using file explorer I get 'Pointui.Home.1.51a.Wm.CAB is not a valid Windows CE Setup file'.

I am still using Windows Mobile 2003SE on my XDA IIi.

When I try to execute the CAB using file explorer I get 'Pointui.Home.1.51a.Wm.CAB is not a valid Windows CE Setup file'.

I am still using Windows Mobile 2003SE on my XDA IIi.

Same for me, and impossible to find the WM5 CAB file anywhere in the PDA after that. So, I installed the 2003 cab directly and it seems to work fine.
What is the difference if you install the wm5 file first ?

i'm usingan xda atom,can this update work for my phone as well?

stuarthurst
20th May 2008, 08:11 PM
Yes - same for me here regarding the "is not a valid set up file" - I've also tried copying the extracted files and it doesn't work either.

The 1.02 one works a treat but the later version must have something either fixed to be released that high up in the numbering system

Now I'm wondering if my system is missing something that can interpret xml file installers.
It's running Pug's 1.61 release (thanks pug) and just has TT6 installed too. so it's still 2003 SE..

Any pointers will be appreciated - I'm very IT Literate but this is a bit foxxing... - and I also followed that inital guide too..

The latest version (1.51a) is not out for 2003se yet only for WM 5 & 6. they are going to release one, in the meantime you will have to stick to 1.02a

hi there! just like other guys who posted that they cant install the Pointui.Home.1.51a.Wm.CAB because its not a valid SE intaller i did have the same problem too. hmm? whats the difference on not installing the cab file? i tried to put the home2003 in my alphine without that cab thing, and it works fine. can anyone please tell me what's that cab installer for?

on point UI :

a.the the Wifi setting button is not working on alphine (xda 2i)

b. the volume button in the left side of the device, becomes the scroll haha! great!, but how i wish, it is still used for adjusting volumes :(

c. how can i change the background? is it possible?

over all, its great! iphone? nah... xda 2i still! yahahaha

thank you point UI!!!

robsno
23rd May 2008, 07:10 PM
The wi fi button needs comm manager in startup to work, there are instructions on the pointui board, replacing the background just needs a 240 x 320 Jpg file called bg.jpg in the same directory as the main home program and it uses it as the background.

The wm 5 install for 1.02a used to set up a lot of registry settings but you can put them in manually if you need to.

Before I try this can someone tell me if there is any danger that I will loose the O2 telephone interface software from my XDA IIi?

Thanks.....

No although the O2 interface does make the XDA2i unstable, I got rid the O2 interface on mine pretty early on.

bondaneka
29th May 2008, 09:34 AM
Thanks Robsno. A couple of questions if I may? Is it relatively easy to remove the O2 interface and, if I do, what dialer software would you recommend installing?

robsno
30th May 2008, 08:25 PM
Yes fairly easy to remove the O2 interface and it will revert to the standard Windows 2003SE pocket pc and phone interface. I use my own dialer skin which i uploaded on the pointui forum under customisation in a Wm2003 thread. For contact management icontact 0.6 is the best in my view with its scrolling interface and the abc button in the bottom right. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=383109&highlight=icontact

I seem to remember installing using

pointuihomewm5desktopinstaller.exe

then overwriting those files with contents of

home.ppc2003.zip

and then use

PointUI Home 1.02b BlackTheme.cab

At least that's what I remember - will be reinstalling pointui soon as have lost my backups :( and need to reinstall everything.

I installed PointUI for my Windows Mobile 2003 device in December 08, by following all the instructions given here (install WM5.cab first, replace files yada yada).

But I want to change my interface to the black one.
I have a PointUI black for WM2003 cab file. It installs, nothing changes.

I guess some file-replacing will have to be done.

Please help !

Does anyone have a fix for:

Phone Call Icon - I want this to dsiplay missed calls only and when I open the missed calls with this icon it should clear the missed calls number

Messages Icon - I want this to display unread text messages - once I've read the text message it should clear

Any ideas?

I think the site's down. Are there any other download links?

zenity
12th November 2009, 07:32 PM
Since PointUI home went to version 2 they have stopped all support for WM2003 devices, and removed all the downloads for 2003 also, so it is now more difficult to find, however I decided that this app should not die out completely for our beloved alpine, and have searched high and low for an easy way to install it. Due to the uncertain legal status of the old beta files, I cannot post the file links here, however they ARE available, just not easy to find.....

So far I have found that you can search for a file named Home.1.01b.Wm5.Installer.zip on 4shared.com and download that.

Now unzip this file to a convenient folder, and run the installer, it'll appear to install just fine, however if you try to run Home, it will complain that it is not a valid file.

Don't worry though, there is a solution, on 4shared there is another file, home.ppc2003.zip, download that now.

Once more, unzip to a convenient folder, in this folder there should be four files, copy these to your Alpine, and place them in Program Files/PointUI/Home/101b/, overwriting the files in that folder.

Now you should have a working copy of PointUI Home. :)

If you need the Weather, well that's a little more difficult, you will have to edit the file Home.DB.xml which is in the Program Files/PointUI/home/1.01b/ folder, the best way is to copy the file to your desktop pc, then edit it there.

First find your weather location using http://aspnetresources.com/tools/locid.aspx.

Then open the Home.DB.XML file on your PC, and replace the contents with the following. (Cut and Paste).

<Database>
<HelpShownFirstRun>1</HelpShownFirstRun>
<Weather.LocationID>UKXX0775</Weather.LocationID>
<Weather.LocationName>Glenrothes</Weather.LocationName>
<Weather.Units>Celsius</Weather.Units>
<Weather.LastUpdated>1/Jan/0001 12:00:00 am</Weather.LastUpdated>
<Weather.UpdateFrequency.Hours>0</Weather.UpdateFrequency.Hours>
<Sound.SpeakerVolume.LastValue>40</Sound.SpeakerVolume.LastValue>
<Sound.RingerVolume.LastValue>80</Sound.RingerVolume.LastValue>
<Clock.Style>Digital</Clock.Style>
<PowerOn.Action>Show Home</PowerOn.Action>
<PhoneCall.Bluetooth.Action />
<PhoneCall.End.Action />
<RunningApps.ShowScreenshot />
<TaskBar.Mode />
<TaskBar.CloseBehaviour />
<CommManager.Preferred>Default</CommManager.Preferred>
<Transition.Style>Screen Roll</Transition.Style>
<Font.ForceType />
</Database>

Replace the Location Code (<Weather.LocationID>UKXX0775</Weather.LocationID>) and City Name (<Weather.LocationName>Glenrothes</Weather.LocationName>) with your own location code and city name, and copy the edited Home.DB.XML file back to the Alpine, replacing the original, then run Home again.

If you want to have home running automatically, just copy a shortcut to the Windows/Startup folder of your alpine, ( I don't recommend this really, the 2003 version is not really stable enough on my XDAIIi).

Hopefully that'll get Home running on your Alpine, have fun :)

Hi, i found cab for Pointui 1.02 Alpha for WM 2003, i attached it below. works fine with my alpine. Just unzip n there you go. But the weather still not functioning. maybe it should use the weather tweak mentioned before.. haven't try it yet.

Oh ya, it's buggy when you change the screen to landscape and vice versa (cant be touched).
But u can fix it if u press END button. then in the today screen press the taskbar, and then there's pointui task manager, and then press the home menu. Tadda. it works again. .. well still annoying though
.

Btw... how to change that blue background color of the menus (not the background picture..). I want to change it to something else.

Thanks all.

(just sell iPAQ 6965 and bought a quite smooth alpine 2 weeks ago for Rp 680.000... US$ 70).
