As always the following rules apply with all of my roms except for the game part since the lite version do not include them..

====================================

Goals

Create a rom that will offer the following to end users.

Faster

Any body can build a rom faster than the stock one, but will it be more stable?

Looks slick

A phone that will have an interface your proud to show off to your family and friends.

Storage

Extra storage space in case you were not able to buy a sd card.

Easy to use

Comes with apps already install so people do not have to waste too much time downloading extra apps and etc.

Stable

A rom that you will not have to soft reset daily. Fixing common issues found with the original rom.

Fun

A rom with extra games so when your stuck some where and there is nothing to do, you can always play games.

====================================

There will be two versions:

Open Touch v4.0 UC

This one will be like the lite but with the following options.

1. UC added but with a twist, meaning it will not auto load, you will have the option to run it yourself.

2. Open Touch Cab Center = I'm going to include some commanly used cabs with the rom, you choose which ones you want and need.

3. Voice speed dial and voice command have been added and working.

Specs:

6MB Pagepool
45MB+ Storage and 26MB+ Programs - Due to Voice command

Open Touch v4.0 Biggy

Still listing

"2. Open Touch Cab Center = I'm going to include some commanly used cabs with the rom, you choose which ones you want and need."

Does this mean we can add any cab we want to the rom or we can only choose what cabs you have included? Keep up the good work.

I've included commanly used cabs with this rom. You will simply go to Cabs Center and click to install the ones you need or want.

There will also be another option within the Cab Center for you to install cabs from your sd card.

That's wrong information...

I don't like to force people to use HARD-SPL unless they want to.
I mean I could include it as a package and have people just become HARD-SPL without knowing, but that would be the wrong thing to do.

I know that the current installation process is kind of old but it's made for folks that do not wish to have their devices become HARD-SPL.

I am a little confused.
so if i understand correctly.

in UC version after the install it will give us option which cabs to install right?
if that is the case isn't that going to affect the size of the installed rom and space after install is done

You are correct, if you notice the program and storage space is less than the v3.0 lite, but not much..

There are two options, one is to install cabs already included in the rom, which will reduce some of the space.
Two install cabs from your own sd card to your sd card which will not effect the ram size.

In the original UC, you have to have your config file and cabs already on your sd card before flashing the rom. Since it will auto install after the flashing has completed. I've made it where you can use the UC option when your ready.

Is there any way to have the theme the same color as the backround? It matches my wing PERFECTLY. I've been searching around for a navy blue-ish theme with no luck. Even if you can just provide a cab to have that nstead of the black htc theme would be great.

No,

I'm going to release the beta version only to the beta team tomorrow for testing. This takes a day or two depending on how many issues come up.

Once everything looks good I will then release it.

I like that - so does this mean no more 5 - 7 hours installation process for me? That's about how long it takes for me to install from start to finish after flashing. I like the lite and slimeline versions btw.

Ttran, love the work, still hittin hard with the good ol 3.0 - lookin forward to 4.0. One thing, might I suggest a new splash screen? preferrably from poorlyduck like in ur previous releases? the digi-blue seems a bit retro, so maybe bring some daark-toned splash screen like that back?...this is purely my opinion, even if you dont change it that is cool, just a suggestion. Thanks.

Well i dont mean that this would be the only way, but just to make it like a real Touch ROM. Not the Touch from HTC but just Touch.

I agree with you to make it optional. Like including it in the ROM but make it optional in the way so you can turn it off and on.

I hit the send button and it answered and I had a 40 min conversation on it I even used the speaker phone..!! that is one well constructed and tough phone, good thing I have insurance so for a $110 deductible a new one is on its way it should be here Tuesday and I will be neeeeding to flash it with this rom, so I hope it will be done by then, it sounds like a fantastic ROM I was using v3.0 and loved it, I like that this will have voice command and working and it's UC compliant. Hi,

Please provide more details as to more touchable?

I have tested many roms and programms to provide as much comfort using the phone with one hand as possible. Your Open Touch 3.0 in my opinion is still the best rom out there! :-) But I have found some good alternatives to the build in windows mobile programms that can easily be used by one hand (and hopefully included in your next rom *g*):

- I prefer icontact as my favorite contact manager (fast, stylish and freeware!)
- Slide2unlock is a great tool too. It shows missed calls, sms etc.. (using it since my first rom and love it)

I am still searching for the perfect Shortcut prog. for my today screen. I have tried nearly all iPhone styles but most of them are too slow and the rest just doesent fit for me... (I love the idea of having 5 medium Shortcuts at the bottom of the today screen, iPhone like).

I dont know why but I dont like useing the Cube... I know it sounds like the perfect fingerfrindly app but I never really used it... I like the idea of a fully touchable Windows Mobile (big program Icons, Easy to use settings and so on...) without using a seperate tool like the cube.

Last but not least I hate using the standardt messaging tool build in because you have to use the stylus before you can start typing... (It takes me way more time creating a sms with my herald than with my previous Nokia 9300)

So finally I hope you could include some of these suggestions in your new Rom to make it more fingerfriendly!

Thank you for your great work!

As far as aesthetics go, I prefer blue themes. I'm not a fan of Vista or black ones. In fact, I want to see about creating a Luna Element theme for PPC.

Here is Luna Element for WinXP:
http://xp.xpdnc.org/files/AddOns/Luna_Element_v5.05/regstart.jpg (http://xp.xpdnc.org/files/AddOns/Luna_Element_v5.05/desktop-2006_0418.jpg)
(click image to see full screenshot)

I'd rather not post this as a request, though, as I tend to adhere to the aphorism, "Beggers can't be choosers."

What is the speed like compared to V3.0?

ahmadh007
11th March 2008, 06:37 AM
One thing that I noticed in v3.0 was the playback of youtube vids. Compared to v2.5, the playback was a lot smoother.

Nonetheless, there is still some lag in video playback. Maybe an improvement on that?

Personally I'd be happy to have the option of different color schemes available to install as cabs or other means that you could create.
This would be the ideal solution if it's possible.

But more than anything I'm ready for V4..LOL

Your previous versions are the best ROMs available and I wish I was savvy enough to help you out when you your so busy so we can get V4 finished. Unfortunatly I'm not, so just do the best you can and I'm sure that we will all be EXTREMELY happy.

Keep up the good work ttran.

Personally I'd be happy to have the option of different color schemes available to install as cabs or other means that you could create.

Yo da man!

As much as I like Open Touch there is always the personal element that ttran001 should not have to deal with, otherwise he would have to make a couple thousand versions. I still like tweaking with some settings here or there. That is what makes the phone mine. Ttran is giving me the fast, stable base to use as my cornerstone.

That's the main reason I don't have a problem with whatever he puts out, it's quality and free. I never expect him to come out with the "Proto Touch" version just because my perfect ROM changes from day to day, and I adjust accordingly. Why should "the man with the golden ROM" have to include my every whim, just give me the base and the space to do what I want. That's what makes it so great.

I'm really not trying to pick one you SNW, I've seen a lot more post that basically demand updates from ttran. I also feel the same way about v4.0, I'm nearly glued to this forum in anticipation. I think the last post by xyenxz sums it up.

You just bring me a good idea.

How about a Glossy Bar Colour chooser thing. Everybody's choice of colours can be enabled.

I second that. Wednesday is my last day of vaction and was really hoping this was going to be out for the masses. Spending my vacation to do a Rom upgrade will not make the wife happy but neither is my checking this forum every few minutes. I was going to strip the rom down to 60MB+ for storage but then the phone would not be fully functional. Plus you would have to spend more time adding core stuff back in.

I've gotten it down to 55MB+ Storage and 28MB+ Programs with it being more functional.

Testing a few more things and I will upload it for the beta team.

I, for one, prefers the lite version, as I'm using the Open Touch V3 lite. Yes I do have a MicroSD card (2GB) and I'm planning upgrading to 8GB when the price comes down so I can install more maps for the GPS programs.

I prefer having a large storage place for program cache. I have found that most programs will cache in storage memory rather than program memory, and have more storage memory means I can browse the web longer, download larger files, view more youtube videos, etc. Of course I can move the cache to storage card; but firstly storage card is much slower; secondly storage card is not good for many rewrites and memory can be re-written almost infinite times.

Currently upon soft reset I have >30Mb storage memory and >20Mb program memory. I'm loving it!

Just my 2 cents.

True... and I have always used the biggy versions once released. However.. I liked the idea of a micro version.. Especially for those of us that plan to take advantage to the UC compliance. The micro version provides the base..then just add cabs. No redundant apps.. No wasted space.

Damnit, the shit I'm about to say will probably bore you to death and sound weak as hell, but I'm long overdue.

ttran,

Before you released the debut version of Open Touch, I had a difficult time finding a rom to suit my needs. If I remember correctly, you used itje's Touch-It v2.3 as the base rom for v1.0. After flashing my Wing with v1.0, I was hooked. I wanted to see what surprises your next release would hold.

Didn't you drop the Touch-It rom for Open Touch v2.0 and begin using the stock T-Mobile rom? I can't recall. It seemed like you released v2.x updates so quickly that as soon as I'd get around to flashing the newest version, you'd have already posted a fresh release with more choices. That was bad ass.

You made an excellent decision by using the recently released WM 6.1 rom as the base rom for Open Touch v3.0. It seems faster and more stable than ever before. Not to mention the great new features such as threaded sms (Finally) implemented in WM 6.1. I believe that v3.0 is your best work yet. And now, after so much dedication and hard work, the upcoming release of v4.0 almost has everyone frenzying.

Your roms have transformed the bloated, stinking, pig that is T-Mobile's Wing into something I am proud to own. With the help of your roms, as well as a few freeware apps, I no longer feel as if T-Mobile ripped me a new one. All of the stock Wing users couldn't dream of the capabilities of the Wing once it's been liberated from all of T-Mobile's mostly useless, bloated, shitty software. An added bonus is that once BatteryStatus is configured properly, the Wing's performance is astonishing.

Thank you for all of the sacrifices, hard work, and dedication you've had for the community, man. You and your roms are very much appreciated. Keep up the excellent work and keep those high standards. You deserve beers. Lots of beers. I'll hook it up. Take it easy, chef, and thanks again.

I just followed the instructions in the video, including the part where you go to Settings->Connections->Connections. Refer to the first post and watch that video to see what I'm talking about.

I, for one, prefers the lite version, as I'm using the Open Touch V3 lite. Yes I do have a MicroSD card (2GB) and I'm planning upgrading to 8GB when the price comes down so I can install more maps for the GPS programs.

Their windows mobile programs, so they work with praticly any windows mobile phone. Though our wing may not have a built in gps, you can always connect a bluetooth gps to it.

I have a few of the releases done, but currently on a family vacation for spring break.
I will upload them on Monday, I think the biggy is ready without having to go through the beta testing.. I hope..heheh

I has been working fine for me for about two weeks now but then I did not use all of the features yet.

I know you folks are waiting and I thank you for using my roms, but we all know it's family first.. If I don't spend more time with my family, then my wife will not let me cook any more roms.

I would like to also thank the folks that recently and in the past have donated to me.

It's not about the money, it also helps me show my family that my rom cooking time (which is a lot of my personal time) is not going to waste since people are using my roms and do enjoy using them.

Thank you for all of the wonderful donations no matter what amount and thank you for using my roms when there are lots of great roms available.

Google Maps doesn't use GPS to do that. GPS uses satellites to triangulate the position of a GPS device. Google Maps uses cell phone towers to effectively attempt the same thing.

Hi,

That is correct and thanks for clearing that up for me. My main point is if you don't have or want to buy a real gps device then it would be helpful as a free version of a gps.

Well since im awaiting the release of 4.0 maybe i can get my question answered. Im using 3.0 biggie and i cannot get mms to work. I have tryed everything listed in the 3.0 topic and some other things off of other websites. Was there ever a sure fire way to fix this problem? I am with t-mobile and downloaded the t-mobile mms.cab and the t-mobile network customizations.cab and still no go.

Any help would be appreciated. :)

after changing the settings for my address from (050) to (50) and my port settings from (:80) to (:8080) i soft reset the device and it started working. before that i was as frustrated as you. like you, i tried everything but it never worked. i am also with tmobile btw.

yeah I have switched my address from .050 to 50 and changed my proxy to 8080, and countless other options. and still no consistent mms's. I have run the connections wizard, unchecked the retrieve messages automatically button in the mms options, changed server options, and searched and searched forums. my eyes hurt from the reading. lol. hopefully 4.0 fixes all of this for me. this is a great piece of work even with the mms flaw I am getting.

Heya tran, just wondering how all's going bro and how close to launch you are.

If I may make one request, it would be for a super stripped version, even devoid of HTC Home. I've started with battery status themes, and I think the performance is better using that as a today plug instead of Home, plus I don't personally miss any of it's features. Coupled with Ultimate Launcher, I have grown to like it :D

I just released it last night but there seems to be some issues with MMS/SMS again. As for batterystatus I thought about that a few weeks ago and it does seem to work smoother. As for the Ultimate Launcher, I would rather not add any programs that people will need to pay to activate.

If you can come up with battery status theme that looks similar to the htc-home, that would be great.

Thanks bro,

I actually prefer a cleaner look to the (in my opinion) cluttered look of home and have a good idea that I'm trying to make happen. I'll post some screens of my theme so far. I'm just starting and still trying to figure some of it out. Made a clock with the SegoeUI font *hides from M$* and I really like it.

As far as UL - wasn't even asking for the inclusion bro, I totally understand on that front :D Just saying UL makes it schaweet :P

One thing you CAN help with is, do you know of a good stand-alone quick dialer kinda like what Home does that will just sit on the today screen? I want to throw that up on a UL tab, but haven't found any solution what so ever so far. Only thing I can think of is I think you can edit *.lnk's to do phone numbers, which UL can then use.

Oh, one more question/suggestion - have you thought about going with a different UI font? I installed Windows Live Mail or w/e which installs SegoeUI on your PC, which I then just copy/pasted onto my wing. Some reg edits later and I think it converted everything, not 100% sure though. Might be another way to be prett... oh sheet I forgot that's not our thing :D

This is the nicest I've found is This (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1861127&postcount=64) ... However...the one i feel best suited for mass consumption can be viewed HERE (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2013292&postcount=218) and downloaded HERE (http://rapidshare.com/files/98762532/HTC_Home_by_Blie_v1.1.rar). They both look similar, and are fully functional, theres just less options/confusion with the latter one.

Running Micro B1, Ult launcher, Benn Tech HTC home theme...well not that one This (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1861193&postcount=67) one,. and WeatherPanel gives 26+megs free program after reboot. BS and WP being run as panels in UL.

I was new to this a couple days ago myself. I had never even heard of flashing, until I found this forum. I basically read a couple posts, figured out what to do and how to do it, and flashed my Wing over to this 4.0 release.

The release is amazing. It gives you new programs, new settings, makes the whole system more user friendly than the standard T-Mobile. There are additional games, threaded sms instead of standard, included Java with Opera Mini, a new media player, etc. This is an amazing rom that was very well done by ttran.

As I understand, it also includes a new 'radio' that will give you a better connection to T-Mobile's towers. I could be wrong with this, and would appreciate someone else clarifying what the 'radio' that is included does...

I removed the cabs center, it works fine but takes up too much resources and until I'm able to figure out how to reduce the resource issue I will not add it back.

As for the sms settings that was removed during trouble shooting, this will be readded to the next update.

I was using 4.0 biggy with cube. No big deal though, 3.0 works just fine for me.

I had the same issue. I used to own a MDA and when this occurred I just flashed to oem rom and then flashed back to the rom that I wanted. I did the same thing to the Wing and it worked for me. battery life is back to 2+ days for me instead 1/2 a day.

I have 2 quick questions:

1. Should I be able to spell out a name from my contacts on the dialer keypad?

2. When will we see the next gen IE for WM6.1?

I have been having issues with disappearing text messages and email accounts... probably about once a week this happens, email accounts disapear, and all my text conversations get erased, but the total messages still show but the ones that are on the list I can't view...

I also have this problem with email. I notice that randomly they get wiped out. No problems with text messages though. Anybody else?

yes I have noticed the email thing, but i think its because of the setup in my email settings that had to do with how long to keep messages .......i will try to confirm that tomorrow.

I just started noticing the email issue. Also I can't send emails thru my yahoo account anymore, and I would have to reset my phone to get Pic messages to come thru.

Another problem I am starting to have is my phone has be resetting by itself at odd times.
