Updated: New REG Key to personalize. The value if is decimal must be decimal, if you find in your registry 1033 for WWE ROM you must write 1040 as decimal for italian languages (MUI 0409 -> 0410).

MUI files give you the ability to translate in your language (french, german, italian, etc.) a program like HTC Home or HTC Album or HTC ActionScreen etc.

You need just to copy the MUI files in your Windows directory of your PDA.

To know the language of the MUI you have to see the numper of the MUI :) :

Non puoi selezionare una lingua se la ROM è in inglese rimane in inglese puoi provare a prendere le MUI in italiano, rinominarle e copiare su quelle inglesi es.: HTCAlbum.exe.0410.mui -> HTCAlbum.exe.0409.mui poi copiala in windows.

You can't select the language of you ROM from a menu. If your ROM is in english you can tray to rename your italian MUI and than copy it in your Windows folder es.: HTCAlbum.exe.0410.mui -> HTCAlbum.exe.0409.mui now you can copy the file in your windows folder. :D

I know i'll be uploading some dutch files.

First of all I have seen all your works in this forum and I want to say "Noonski you are great !!!". :)

You are welcome if you want to share your MUI files in this tread, I'll update my first post.

I think is very usefull for all to have a place where we can download updated MUI files to translate new application, if I have a dutch ROM I think is nice to have all software in dutch language. In this way when we make a cab we can do a multilanguage cab.

Can someone tell me how i install the mui french package plz?
I mean i know i need to put all the files in \windows directory but there is also a .cab file in the french package. What shoul i do with it? And for the registry key what is the REG_WORD for Syslang if i want it French?

Oke i'm uploading Itlalian Package for Cube.

The

mxip_Biotouch_0410.provxml

Was missing.

So if this can be downloaded then translated correctly.
And also check itiflashfiles.txt, as i don't have the name for the italian StartUp Folder.

The posted MUI are the original ones. They are taken from original HTC elf/nike so they are not translated ;).

I have tried, if I changed [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\MUI] some programs became in Russian but when I reset also my Elf frozen. I think that there are other key to change under [HLM]\Programs\Windows.

This trick will work when you have the whole ROM translated.

Which should be possible with the complete Dutch Dump.

I think the kitchen will be ready for translation in a week. BUt for the other languages there are not enough MUI files to make a complete rom.

It will be easy to look at and do other languages.

The rules are...

All language related registry keys are moved to top of rgu files.

And all language related Registry keys from OEM folders are moved to OEM_LANG

I have controlled the MUI and it is ok so I think you have to rename the MUI according to your ROM. If your rom is 0409 you have to rename the dutch MUI from 0413 to 0409. Let me know if all is ok. :)

I had unpack the zip files into windows directory. I changed my registry settings. I had instaled the cab file. I do a soft reset and the language still in English.

Im using Shadow 2.1

When I was coping the files to windows directory, I had some errors, saying I cannot override the files.

Can anybody help-me?

It works :)!!
I used HTC Album 1.0.822.716 (that version works best on my MDA Touch 256).
Somehow the nls settings in the registry had changed back to English 1040.
Changed those back to 1043 for Dutch, installed HTC Album, copied over the mui file. And then waited 15 min, before rebooting the device.
Started HTC Album and menu's are in Dutch :cool:
Also tested it on a WWE and there it works to.

BTW MS Device Emulator is a nice tool to test cabs etc.

I've been breaking my head about this.

Do you have a WM6.1 Rom?

Because in WM6 2.20 roms it was always sort of a rule to wait 30 seconds to 1 minute before rebooting after registry change.

You see there's a hard User.hv and default.hv in windows folder but there's also shadow (sort of versions)/cache in documents and settings.

I have found some arab HTC Elf but they all have WWE ROMs with MUI and HTML in english 0409.
I'm sorry but the only personalized software I can find for arab is the extended ROM and the T9. :(

Because in WM6 2.20 roms it was always sort of a rule to wait 30 seconds to 1 minute before rebooting after registry change.

You see there's a hard User.hv and default.hv in windows folder but there's also shadow (sort of versions)/cache in documents and settings.

And it looks like the improved Memory management is taking more time to write this information away.

My phone is blocked on the windows mobile logo (just before I put sim code).
I imagine I made something wrong in the default code (i suppose but i check twice before reboot).

Is there a way to reflash the mobile in this case or just change the code to put default wwe language ?

2) Press "Reset" once with the stylus and then release all keys.

The only dangerus key I found in my tests is [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\MUI]. When I tried to change that key I have had the same problem you have (Elf doesn't boot correctly) and I have had to Hard Reset my Elf (probably like you have done). :(

To calculate the decimal value you can use windows calculator in scientific mode. :)

Yes and no.

Because you won't change the real registry keys located in Default and USER .hv.

So doing this after flash it can and will work.

But after a while and maybe a reset at the wring time.
Your system will refert to a few registry keys from default and user hv in Win folder and erors will start.

But if this is intented for cooking only, yes you are completly correct.
This is how you do it.

But making a Localisation cab is not adviced. It's been tried and never really worked perfectly.

And there are more Paths to change.

I'm sorry that i've been to busy, but i am working on this.

Here's the OEM rgu file that has all OEM registry settings moved into just this one that refer to localising keys.

But it's not the final version.

Well in this moment I don't want to change all system language but only the layout. So it's not important to have my programs installed in "\Programmi" or "\Program Files" but I want to translate only the text on the application.

So I want to find a smart way to change the language of my "layout" changing only a few registry key with a program that download updated MUI files from internet (perhaps you think I'm crazy :D).

In this way (I hope) all "not cooking people" can use all cooked ROMs for their Elf with their own languages. :eek:

There's a mistake in some original Dutch Roms.

Where the templates folder is made in My Documents instead of Mijn Documenten.

If you can't find anywhere the files you're looking for, then go to Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6 Localized Emulator Images (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=38c46aa8-1dd7-426f-a913-4f370a65a582&DisplayLang=en#filelist)
download the 041D/Windows Mobile 6 Standard Images (SVE).msi ,
run it ,
and take the files you want from there..

Exactement pareil pour moi, sauf que je n'ai pas modifié [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\MUI], ni installé le fichier cab.
J'ai copié tous les fichiers MUI sans aucun effet, ça plante pas mais je note que tout reste en anglais.

Exactly the same case for me, except that I have not changed [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\MUI] and installed the file.cab.
I copied all the MUI files without any effect, not crash but I note that everything is in English.

It's only a matter of non compatible version between your MUI and the programs to be translated.
For the French version of AEther, i've used Diamond mui.

Download a shipped ROM extract it and you'll get all 409 MUI.

Meu amigo eu to quebrando a cabeça pra tentar traduzir a onyx 4.3 para português !! já tentei todo o procedimento descrito no inicio do tópico porém não funcionou, já tentei renomear todos os arquivos mui pra 0409 e também não funcionou. O aparelho dá uma mensagem de erro no inicio do boot, e liga até com algumas informaçoes em portugues porém muita coisa some, fica inviável utilizar. ALGUÉM PODE NOS AJUDAR ???

My friend i`m "broking my head" trying to translate the onyx 4.3 to portuguese. I tryed the tutorial posted on the beginning of forum but didn´t work. I Also tryed to rename all mui files to 0409 and didn´t work too. the device in both situations get stucked on a gray screen and after that the device starts the system but some informations isn´t displayed and few programs disappear. ANYONE CAN HELP US ??

You may have to find a portuguese wince.nls file and replace the existing one with the desired one.

BTW, just renaming the .mui file won't work as the language id is also referenced inside the file.:p

Search for a recent shipped ROM available in Portuguese (probably a Diamond one). Dump it, and you'll get the required file.

Hey,

I'v flashed the Lates Onyx with win 6.1. I've downlowded the German MUI files. I've dropped them in the windows folder. Changed the registry. Nothing happens. Then I resetted the device. Still english.
Then I checked the registry. Mysteriously, all values I changed were back at their initial value (English)!!?!

Then I changed the values again to german. Then changed the drop down menu in settings/system/regional settings to german. Resetted the device.

And then, the a strage screen appeared before windows was booted saying that something wrong was installed, not signed or stuff like that and that I should press "send". I pressed the green dial button and - swoosh - Windows installed itsef again an deleted all previously installed files and settings and I had to calibrate the screen again.

What did I do wrong?

By the way, I couldn't find any description in the forum exlaining what to do after changing the reg entries and copying the files. Is really just rebooting?
