Any chance you can have an option to go full screen? Also the option to go landscape.

I've never managed to find a digital clock that goes full screen, so that I can use it as an alarm/nighttime clock.

the clock works fine in landscape mode. and although not real full screen, you can go into options and increase the size of the font and it can be huge! that can be an alternative.

SOLUTION FOUND!!!

If I choose Regional Setting United States, dddd appears as an option, so when selected the day appears as desired. Soft reset device, then choose United Kingdom, soft reset.... the day is STILL there! Great!!! :-)

Hope this helps anyone else trying to get the day to appear next to date.

Hi NguyenHuu.

Just checking... rlToday (download page below) isn't an alternative to Pocket Digital Clock is it... it's actually a totally alternative Today Screen, right?

Quick question about Pocket Digital Clock:
Can it be installed on the storage card and if so does this help reduce Battery Loss. Since I installed PDC, my battery life seems to be going down about 30% quicker???

Thanks,

Mattster.

Hi thakidc...

Well, it could be Spb Diary. I've just installed that to storage card so I'll see if that helps. I'll try installing PDC there as well.

To tell you the truth, I'm not even sure if location of storage actually has an effect on battery life!

Thanks for your help.

Mattster.

Just tried saving PDC to storage card but it didn't give me the option! Maybe cos I chose to use the original settings I had on first installation. Nevermind. I reckon it's Spb diary anyway. I've read that it can be a memory hogger.

Hi NguyenHuu.

Just checking... rlToday (download page below) isn't an alternative to Pocket Digital Clock is it... it's actually a totally alternative Today Screen, right?

right, it's an entirely new today plugin, but you can customize it how you like with 'skins.' so you can make it just show the clock and date like how i did it. it's small and light wieght as well. it's customizable so you can a lot of things not just clock. but if you guys want just the clock and want it to look like diamond clock you can use rltoday since pocket digital clock program dont have the diamond font and the developer said there's no plans to make it.

Here is the default diamond skin they made over at rltoday: http://rotlaus-software.de/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1397

Using that and other skins, mines was modded a lil to look like how i posted it earlier.

A general thumb of rule for the Pocket PC is if a program is to run on the Today screen, it should never be installed on the storage card. Otherwise, programs may have erratic behaviors due to reading and writing delays when powering up the device. That is why you do not have the option to install Pocket Digital Clock on your storage card.

For programs running from storage cards, there really is no need to worry about the extra battery juice required to power the memory cards since it is quite negligible on most devices.

Pocket Digital Clock is written with low CPU usage and minimal battery drain in mind. If a program requires a lot of power to function, you should notice the device getting warm very quickly. This is the case in an earlier version of rlToday where the battery becomes very hot when displaying the seconds. By the way, rlToday isn't new. It has been around long before I started writing this program. I've also mentioned it on my web site as an alternate solution to PDC if you want something different. No doubt, rlToday is a very interesting piece of program with endless customization possibilities but it might be a bit too overwhelming for some of the less geekier folks (no offence) ;p

Mattster_spv, if you still run into battery drain problems, uninstall Pocket Digital Clock and monitor the battery for another week or so. Your feedback will be most appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Mark.

Very neat looking screen. I have a couple of q's if you don't mind:

1. Is there a chart or something I can see online to help me set the colour settings to get the time, sate, etc particular colours?

2. Is that Spb Diary? What settings did you choose to get the appointment time showing up on the same line as the appointment?

3. How have you got spb diary opening up UNDER the time?

Thanks. I imagine the answers are obvious but I thought I'd ask anyway!

Yo Mattster...
Sure...a couple o' a's to go with your q's
1) Yes there is a chart...here it is. I don't think Ionize will mind me posting this as he doesn't have it up on the customizations part of his web site yet. this is paraphrased from correspondence from with him:

This version (ver 1.1.6) includes new registry values that allow you to tweak the color of the individual display elements on the plug-in. Navigate to [HKCU\Software\ProjectION\Pocket Digital Clock] using any PPC registry editor and set the registry value of TextColorEnabled to 2. Next, lookup the new registry keys that start with "ColorEx" and adjust the RGB color value to your likings.

Note the RGB color value is in the following hexadecimal form: 0x00bbggrr

For example:
FFFFFF is white.
FF0000 is blue.
00FF00 is green.
0000FF is red.
000000 is black.
00FFFF is yellow and etc...

Well, I won't say it's user friendly but I think it should do what you had asked. Have fun playing with the tweaks.

2. Nope its Today Agenda (http://tiews.info/) a wonderful freeware today screen plugin.

3. I have Pocket Digital clock ordered first in my list of plugins. in the Today Screen settings. Under the items tab you can set the order of the plugins.

What is the "time display in suspend mode?" Ticking the box either way doesn't make a difference on my Mogul.

From the web site:
Hide time display in suspend mode

o Check to hide the time display in power-off or suspend mode. The time display will resume after waking up from suspend mode.

This option is not so much of a power saving function but rather to prevent users from speed reading the suspended clock when powering up the device. Some devices do not refresh the Today Screen immediately after waking up from suspend mode and thus displaying the incorrect time until a refresh initiates. You can safely uncheck this option if you do not experience a refresh delay on your device.

Let me try to give you some background on the idea behind this function...

When a Pocket PC goes into suspend mode after a timeout, most programs (including Pocket Digital Clock) will be suspended as well. For slower devices like my Prophet, programs do not resume immediately when power is back on. So when I wake up my Pocket PC, I will see the time when the clock was suspended. There is a short pause (between 300-500ms on my Prophet) before the program updates with the correct time. If I turn on my Prophet and do a very quick glance, chances are I will get the wrong time. The function in question actually blanks out the time display until the program updates the current time and thus preventing me from reading the wrong time.

For devices with a fast CPU, this function is of no importance. You can uncheck this option and ignore it totally.

Not sure why MS does that either. tM will display the AM/PM in the title bar, while tt will not.

I cannot see this having been covered in the thread but I notice that there is a difference between the main clock and PDC's clock of around 23 seconds.

I have tried updating the phone to atomic clocks etc. but there is still a variance.

Does PDC draw it's time form somewhere other than the main time option.

Sorry if a few seconds seem trivial but this is more of a query rather than a problem as I love the plugin.

Well, this is pretty technical, but here goes...

PDC draws its time from the system clock. The clock on top of the taskbar reads the system clock as well. When you synchronize the phone to atomic clock, you are updating the system clock.

The reason why there is a slight time difference between the taskbar clock you see on Today screen and PDC is because that taskbar clock does not refresh periodically. From my observation, it refreshes in approximately 1 to 2 minutes. The taskbar clock uses an internal timer to read the time. Unfortunately, this timer initiates when you turn on the power and does not synchronize to a minute change in the system clock, and therefore creating an inconsistency in refresh rate. In other words, the taskbar clock is always delayed. You may also notice the inaccuracy if you compare it with the time in Clocks & Alarms settings.

On the contrary, PDC reads the system clock every second and refreshes accordingly unless you turn off the second display. If you turn off the second display, PDC will refresh every two seconds (i.e. Windows Mobile's default refresh rate for plug-ins on the Today screen). So the advantage of turning off the second display is that you can actually achieve some battery savings but at the expense of a second late.

Latest version of SpbMobileShell (2.1.1) doesn't work well with POCKET DIGITAL CLOCK on Today Screen.

For some reason, the latest version of SpbMobileShell (2.1.1) has the same smart gesture feature available (dragging your finger from top to bottom) to bring up the mini shell pages on the Today page, but my PDC plugin underneath seems to, after a second, come forward and hide the spb mini pages.

I reinstalled spb mobile shell 2.0 version and the problem went away.

I don't know if this is the same for other plugins on the Today page but it has stopped me from updating for the moment as I still use my Today page with the great PDC application (and other plugins) as my main info page and launcher for other applications (such as mobile shell).

When you mentioned about the mini shell pages, are you referring to the highlighted area in the screenshot shown below? I didn't see any anomalies when I recently tried Spb Mobile Shell 2.1.1 with Pocket Digital Clock. The auto-hide menu overlaps PDC only when the tab is pressed, as expected. Anyone else experiencing plug-in overlapping problems?

http://project.ionized.googlepages.com/Capture.png

Tip: You can rearrange PDC and place it on top of the Spb Mobile Shell plug-in so to avoid strange overlapping problems. To rearrange the plug-ins, you will need to change the plug-in Type for PDC to 5 and change the Order for Spb Mobile Shell plug-in to 1 using a registry editor. A soft reset is required for the change to take effect.
Registry path: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\[The target plug-in name]

Sorry, Pocket Digital Clock does not render 3D bitmap fonts. It can only read TrueType fonts as of now. Resizing bitmap fonts dynamically on the fly may yield very poor pixel-level control on small QVGA screens of the Pocket PC.

Hi Ionized.

I am actually referring to the three "mini versions" of Now, Contacts, & MRU that appear from left to right when you drag your finger or stylus down the screen on the Today Page. The idea is they stay on your screen so that you can select which of the three you want to appear in full size format. My experience with the latest spb shell was that the pda clock comes through them after a second and makes the choosing impossible.

If no one else has noticed it, chances are it was something up with my device only. When I have a moment, I'll reinstall it to check.

Thanks,

Mattster.

Ahh... ok, I found the mini shell pages you were talking about. I think Spb called them preview panels. You're right. PDC will overlap the translucent preview panels when you do a vertical drag-and-hold gesture on the Today screen.

Sorry, I'm afraid there is nothing I can do about this. PDC requires a periodic repaint of the plug-in area to reflect the correct time. Sadly, the preview panels do not know how to repaint themselves to overlap correctly when the plug-in underneath updates. I've tested with other Today screen plug-ins that refresh frequently, e.g. BatteryStatus, and the same overlapping problem persisted. By the way, this overlapping issue is not a stylus gesture conflict.

The only workaround I can suggest is that you disable the second display on Pocket Digital Clock if you want to use it with Spb Mobile Shell 2.1.1 + preview panels.

Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think you can change the default clock on ThrottleLauncher. The Clock App (clock.exe) specified in the configuration is actually the launcher for the Clock and Alarms Settings when you tap on the clock. Although ThrottleLauncher claims to support third-party plug-ins, I could not find any information on embedding another Today screen plug-in into ThrottleLauncher.

You might want to direct this question to the author of ThrottleLauncher for clarification.

I've been meaning to post this a while ago... but I wonder if anyone else has noticed this. Whenever I upgrade to a new version I have to re-setup PDC from scratch... even though it asks me if I want to save my settings.. As I've grown to use this app more and more I've collected a fair number of customizations and tweaks so reconfiguring it has become less than trivial with each incremental upgrade. It even overwrites my custom font. So I've started using a registry editing program to backup the PDC key with all the settings and I can reload them from there.
Now one of the things that I like about this app is its lean memory foot print so I don't want to suggest anything that will increase it. But is there a way to preserve the settings more logically? Or is it just the nature of the beast that with each upgrade it must overwrite the settings because new reg keys may be implemented. Can a more convenient way to back up and restore the settings be done?
Anyway those are my thoughts. Thanks again for a great plugin!

Dear,

Thanks for great application. But one more things/customization will be great...

That is alignment of the Time. If we can align Time to left, centre or Right then this will be more helpful when we set time on small fonts.

Thanks

Anyone know how to make a font that looks like the HTC Home Clock on the diamond....you know the numbers that look like they fold down to change (like the old flip alarm cocks, before LED and LCD)?

This is the most valuable program I found when I had an AT&T Tilt. No more squinting to see the time, and without all the extra bloat from HTC Home. Thanks and kudos to the developer.

A question though: Will Pocket Digital Clock work on the Treo Pro (320x320) screen?

When embedded in SPB and in landscape mode, the clock does not size to the proper width and the area to the right is not being repainted (seen in white in the screenshot). I've tried all sorts of settings, but no luck. Any suggestions? Do you think this is a problem with the clock or SPB? Would really like a fix since I love this clock!

Been a while since I last visited here. Sorry if I missed some of your questions.

mguzzy:
Sometimes, the registry cannot be moved before reinstallation initiates due to system locks. As a result, the previous state is lost. I usually recommend a soft reset before reinstalling PDC.

cinguliano:
PDC does support 320x320 screens.

JackOnan:
It's a problem with the clock. I did not foresee embedding the plug-in in such a way. Fixed in version 1.1.9.

Nice clock! I am trying to also find a sms/mail/miss call counter to go with this. Also, would like if there is no scroll bar on the clock (like HTC home). I love HTC home but trying to find an alternative with much less memory.

Softreset the device.

Thank you for the suggestion...but i've tried that with no luck.
I don't know if it's a resolution problem, i've a 320x320 device, but it sound strange to me...

I tried also a more radical solution, creating a cab with a custom font and i made a new installation of PDC but...always the same font!!

Ok, i don't know why but now it seems to work well.

Just a question: should it work with all the fonts (for example from 1001fonts) ??

I got it working with the fonts i found on the author's site, but with the fonts i downloaded from 1001fonts doesn't works properly.

I'm starting to think the same thing. I've only tried fonts from 1001fonts. Now to try Ions. Maybe it has something to do with the embedded information in the font. If you look at his FAQ for creating your own, there are certain criteria to meet.

I've figured this out, but it's quite complicated. Using FontCreator, I looked at a font that worked with PDC and one that did not. It turns out, the fonts that work in PDC are mapped differently. That is, their identifiers aren't actually numbers one through nine, but are non-labeled characters with hex codes only. I can get the font that I want to work on my phone now, but the problem is I can't get the spacing right. It looks like it's because I'm copying the desired fonts over to a working font set and it changes the glyph boundaries. If anyone has any insight on font editing, this would be a really good time to chime in.

@Ionized

I've been using this program ever since i've got my first PPC, up to now with WM6.5 ROM. This is better than titanium plugin which eats a lot of resources. I've got one request, if you will allow. Can you include in your next release a CHIME option for every hour or every 30 mins. This would be great if possible... thanks

Thanks for this. I'd forgotten why I was having problems...

After a year of using Manila2d or spb mobile shell, I'm finally back to the beautiful simplicity of PDC.

Great bit of software. :D

This is a little personal project I created to replace Windows Mobile default Date plug-in.

Very nice app, but how do you convert ordinary fonts into PDC.ttf
I like a few fonts at 1001fonts.com, but I realize you can't just rename them. If you don't like to share the solution to convert that's fine. But then I got a request for the TERMINATOR font found at http://www.1001fonts.com/search.html?query=terminator

I'am using the PDC with my TouchHD without any problems (No-Manila, no Titianium)! The only enhancement would be an additional line when there is an alarm within the next 12h with the alarm time! Or no Alarm-Icon when not within the next 12h... I think, this is a standard windows lack of functionality!

Does anyone knows a trick to suppress the alarm icon for non actual alarms!

Thank you for this plug-in, I used it on my Asus P527 since I bought an HTC Touch HD.

Two years ago I also wrote a post on my blog about it (sorry, I can't post link because I'm a new user).
