This is a little personal project I created to replace Windows Mobile default Date plug-in. You probably don't need this if you are already using HTC Home, BatteryStatus, rlToday or similar time plug-ins. Anyway, I thought I do share it with you guys here as well.

Thank you very much! It looks beautiful in Axim X51v.
By the way.. is there any way to avoid showing the seconds in the clock? I´d like to see only the hours and the minutes.
Anyway, it´s a great and very light application. ;)

Goodbye Htc Home.
I was using Sm Digital clock but I think this is better.
Thanks for this gift.
And don't assume people don't need it because they have htc home; I used it for months but got tired of the screen estate it occupies and considering that I have spb plus, the other tabs of htc home were just redundant (personal preference, I guess).
Keep up the good work.

This is a great, simple, low overhead clock app. Just what I have been looking for...
One thing:
Any possibility you can build a custom font for the popular SegoeUI TTF that is being implemented in a lot of the 6.1 ROMS?
Thanks again!!

Wow. I didn't expect this much replies. Thanks for all the support.
As for those who wish for more specific arrangements and functions, I would recommend rlToday (http://rotlaus-software.de/projects/rltoday), which is extremely customizable. But of course, customizability comes with higher overheads. At this point in time, I do not have plans to formulate too many designs. I'm afraid there will be no further updates unless there is a critical bug.
brock1909, initially, I made this program with a folder of its own and with the ability to change fonts on-the-go. Unfortunately, there is a well-known Windows Mobile bug that lets registered fonts outside the Windows folder take over fonts in other non-related programs. The same thing happens if you place fonts under the \Windows\Fonts\ directory. It was discussed in the forums of phoneAlarm and rlToday where custom fonts are often used with skins. Eventually, I had no choice but to adopt the current design.
By the way, font color will change based on your Today Theme.
As for Segoe UI font request, I'll make this an exceptional case since I like the font as well. However, because I do not know what are the legal implications of using such copyrighted materials, I will not place them on my custom font page.
http://project.ionized.googlepages.com/SegoeUI.png
P.S. Segoe UI is optimized for ClearType. It won't look good if ClearType is disabled.

I think I am missing something here - seems simple enough.
Install is okay, but after soft reset - the font on the clock plug in is okay, but the rest of the phone is not
I get all kinds of jiberish, squares and other stuff that I cannot read. I have to go in and manually delete each file for this clock, then soft reset again - before the system text goes back to normal
Any ideas ??

Not sure why but the segoe ui custom font seems to react poorly with the pocket cm I have installed.
Unfortunately - my phone hung on splash screen while I was attempting to fix the problem and was soft resetting.
I've reflashed my O/S - installed all of my previous components, including pocket cm and this clock.
Everything works fine - go figure
For now I'll avoid any custom fonts - may be a remote issue with my set up, will see if anyone else posts problems.
Thanks again

I would have loved this program a couple weeks ago, but i grew tired of the HTC home program taking up so much space, and with ultimatelaunch, htc home is now pointless for me. I created a config in RLToday to have just the time, date, clock, and message notifications. I tried messing with fonts, but had the problem of other programs getting the crazy fonts.

This is the infamous Windows Mobile font bug I mentioned previously. Are you using any third party language packs?
Not sure why but the segoe ui custom font seems to react poorly with the pocket cm I have installed.
As for the Segoe UI font problem, I think I'll need to redo the font name mappings so it doesn't link with some of the other system fonts.
Thanks for the feedback bill_in_mtl.

Sorry, you can't. This is strictly a date and time plug-in only.

REEDIT: NOT FOUND the solution... i can see the AM/PM in transparent at the background, but they never show in white..
The time format, including the time marker (AM/PM), relies heavily on your settings in Regional Settings. What is the Time Style in your Regional Settings? Does it say hh:mm:ss tt or HH:mm:ss? I will modify the program slightly to test for "tt" instead of "hh" or "HH" in the next update.
Its perfect!!! Bye bye HTC Home!!!
Only one question... Can I change the clock font size?
I would to have a little bit more big the clock.
Thank you so much!!
The digits are fixed size at the moment. This is actually the biggest I can go. Any bigger, the digits will print out of the screen when the scroll bar appears. This is due to the extra second digits.

+1 for that suggestion. With that on the top and ultimatelaunch on the bottom, one is sorted ;)

But of course, customizability comes with higher overheads. At this point in time, I do not have plans to formulate too many designs. I'm afraid there will be no further updates unless there is a critical bug.
As I said in an email to you, rlToday has issues when going from portrait to landscape and back (doesn't change aspect ratio) and also it causes a problem with ultimatelaunch whereby a scrollbar appears on the right, which when it disappears, chops off the right of the clock background. It would also be nice to be able to use rlToday inside the ultimatelaunch cube, but you can have only one instance (two I hear if you hack another install) of rlToday, so it would be nice to be able to use your plugin to handle the clock.
So please, pretty pretty please, can we have message counters?

I played around a bit too much with this, and the phone basically froze on splash screen - and was done for.
Got it into bootloader mode - reflashed the phone, updated everything and put your software back in - without the custom font.
No issues, no concerns - am back to my original statement
It's just what I was looking for - thanks.
Have a good one

I installed the app with the default font and everything was fine except the font in the touch cube. It was all messed up with squares and ?. I did not install any custom fonts and I do not have any other fonts installed. Once I removed the application everthing went back to normal. It seems it does not like teh PDF.TTF font that comes with teh app. Can you please take a look at to see if there is anything that can be done to resolve that?
Also is there a possibility of maybe adding an option to turn of the "seconds" portion of the clock?
Thank you and great app by the way

I'm aware that HTC Cube is grabbing fonts from other programs. Can I ask a favor from HTC Cube users? Copy Tahoma.TTF (or some other fonts you prefer) from your computer and paste it under \Windows\ folder in your Windows Mobile device. Install Pocket Digital Clock and do a soft reset. Please let me know if that will solve the garbled characters. Thank you.

# Pocket Digital Clock Release Candidate 1.2 (7 March 2008)
* Check for "tt" in the time format string instead of "hh" or "HH" to determine if 24-hour format is used. This is to facilitate the printing of time markers.
* Added the ability to suppress second digits. See Customization for details

Ok, I tried installing the Tahoma.ttf file to /windows directory of my device. Then found that the font already exists in the /windows directory along with Tahomabd.tff. So I surfed more and more posts and found - http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-315968.html. A fellow has already given a work-around which is to copy the Verdana.ttf font from your pc to your device placing it under /windows. This cured all my probs. Be sure to soft reset device afterwards. This solved my problems with garbled fonts in the cube and in comm manager and my clock is sittin pretty on my today screen. Thanks for all the help and hope this helps someone else.

I had this same problem... i discovered that windows mobile 6 (at least that's the one i have) has a bug here.
Some countries have as standard the 24-hour clock, like the Netherlands for example. So you have to change your country settings to UK (or US) and then change the clock to hh MMM ss (the h shouldn't be a capital H else you get the 24 hour clock) after you changed it to the lowercase h.. you can change the country back to your own. . and it i'll work! :)
little sidenote: the dutch rom's also have VM and NM .. instead of AM and PM. But this is easy to change in the time settings.

just install VERDANA.ttf from your PC into Windows folder directly , not in Fonts and soft reset

I put the VERDANA.zip here for all who have problem (displaying ???????? instead of normal display) You just have to unzip it , take VERDANA.ttf and to put into Windows on your ppc and then soft Reset

I think it is just because Verdana is the last font installed that now it works
It doesn't mean Verdana is the the font of the cube , but it is just a way to Windows to remember of normal font instead of PDC
It is a bug of windows Mobile , the developper of PDC told me that by mail

For those of you that are still having problems with the cube fonts:
Keep in mind that the Cube (for some reason) reads the the font list in alphabetical order from a to z and then grabs the last font (this info is from the phonealarm forum).
So if you are still have problems after installing Verdana.tff or Tahoma.tff into the windows directory (like I was) rename the font to:
zzz.tff
or
zzzVerdana.tff
or
zzzTahoma.tff
Renaming the font to zzz.tff worked for me after the soft reset.

I love the clock, the only thing I can suggest to make it better would be to make the background .png (or whatever file type you used) less transparent. I see that you used a similar background to htc home (the top line is darker and the rest is pretty much 100 percent transparent. I would like to be able to see this background a little more because it looks really cool but right now at a glance it just looks like white digital numbers and thats it, no background. any way of changing this?

I was having similar trouble. In the end I used Resco Explorerer's "Find" feature (Menu -> Find) in the windows folder to search for *.ttf and found a couple of fonts that I didn't know were there. I delete all fonts from the \Windows folder and just left Calibri and SegoeUI in the \Windows\Fonts folder. Seemed to do the trick for me.

I delete all fonts from the \Windows folder and just left Calibri and SegoeUI in the \Windows\Fonts folder. Seemed to do the trick for me.
I've hard-resetted my hp again and reinstalled all my progs.
I think i'll hold off for the moment and see if this gets fixed.
Thanks anyway. :)

After racking my brain for the past few days, I think I might have the solution for those who are still facing font problem.
Edited: Test completed. No issues so far.
This time, I changed the program to use font linking. Any program that tries to use my custom font will be linked to Tahoma font instead. If you do not have Tahoma font on your device, which is very unlikely, the plug-in will not be displayed. If you do not like the custom font, disable the plugin, delete PDC.ttf in \Program Files\Pocket Digital Clock\ and the clock will use Tahoma font.
This version also resolves the problem of not detecting the time format correctly due to myriads of regional settings.
The clock stop moving when I lock my phone. Anybody else experience it? I want to be able to read the time without unlocking and locking back the phone. :(
This can be done by affixing the plug-in. Please read Affixing the Plug-in at the bottom of this page.

Regarding the translucent background, it is drawn programmatically. It does not use any image files. Once I resolve the font problem, I may look into how to let users specify the opacity.

I figured it was since I couldnt find any image file for the background. Being able to adjust the opacity would be ideal though. thanks man

I have to say... Thank you so much for this!!!
A Digital Clock, just the right size, and on top of it with seconds  its just great. Bye bye HTC Home Plugin, which i mainly used because of the clock, but this one is just what i was looking for, very small in size, and doesn't take much resources from the device.

Solved by Editing Registry setting of Today (Type = 4 for Mobile Shell)

Hi Fat Boy,
What is the error message when you install the newer version?
Try this if installation fails:
- Use a Registry Editor and navigate to \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items \Pocket Digital Clock
- Delete all keys under this path
- Soft-reset and install new version again
Sorry but I might have missed some steps in the uninstallation notes... going to update it now.

You might want to look at \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items \<Plug-in you want to edit> in the registry.

Wow, this is a great plugin. I've been using rlToday but this is simpler and does the job just as good. I have one question, and I apologize if it's already been covered but I read the thread and web site and didn't see anything. I'm fine with the default font and color, but is there any way to increase the size of the font of the clock? With rlToday I was able to make it big enough so that the clock took up almost the entire width of the today screen and right now PDC is considerably smaller. Thanks!

Hi letsgoflyers81,
The current version allows you to change the size of the font by tweaking some registry values. I am a little tied up and therefore not able to update the site regarding this info.
You might want to look at:
[\HKCU\Software\ProjectION\Pocket Digital Clock\]
HourMinFontSize = 38
SecondFontSize = 26
TimeMarkerFontSize = 9
The numbers represent font points. Increasing HourMinFontSize will enlarge the size of the plug-in.
To override font color, you must first set TextColorEnabled to 1 and then change the respective RGB values for TextColorValueR (Red), TextColorValueG (Green) and TextColorValueB (Blue).
Disable the plug-in (and remove from Today Screen) before you edit. Re-enable when you're done. You do not need to soft-reset for it to take effect.
You can play around with the other registry values if you're the adventurous type but leave AlphaReserved alone.

Using your latest version (1.01), I noticed that although I now have the capability to change the font sizes through registry alterations, it appears to have messed up my system fonts. I have a home cooked 6.1 ROM that I have installed the SegoeUI font as my default system font (replacing Tahoma). PDC displays correctly upon install, but my system fonts are screwed up (just unreadable symbols) in Total Commander and most other programs. If I deactivate the Today PDC plug-in and soft reset, the fonts read correctly.
I have tried to delete the key
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink
PDC="TAHOMA.TTF,Tahoma"
But it doesn't help.
Also, as a note, I think in order to remove the program it requires the user to uncheck the Today plug-in, soft reset, and then run Remove Program, otherwise the .dll files are loaded in memory and will not be deleted.

Instead of deleting the key, try changing it to:
PDC="\Windows\SEGOEUI.TTF,Segoe UI"
(where SEGOEUI.TTF is your Segoe UI font filename. Check the filename first because I'm not sure if this is what you have in your device.)
You'll need a soft-reset after the change.
Starting from Version 1.0, the font used in Pocket Digital Clock is linked to Tahoma, which is the default system font. If you changed the system font to something else, the font linking will go haywire which is what happened in your case.
If you don't like the idea of font linking, just delete PDC.ttf from the folder \Program Files\Pocket Digital Clock and the plug-in will use Tahoma font (provided you have it on your device).
I think I should write a FAQ page regarding this some day...
And thanks for sharing your uninstallation experience. It is always a good practice to uncheck the Today plug-in before you uninstall it. (Let me put this down in my uninstallation notes. I guess I should not assume that everyone knows this.)
A soft-reset is required when you use ActiveSync or other file management software that might have locked the handle to the files or folder after browsing them. This is similar to the irritating file sharing problem when you're trying to unplug an external USB harddisk after use.
I love this app - but I noticed that my alarms in the morning are not working properly. The alarm kicks off and my phone vibrates, but no sounds are coming on, like it used to. My reminders still have sound, but not alarms. Anyone else seeing this? I'm using a Treo 700wx.
I doubt this problem is related to the plug-in. Can you confirm this by disabling the plug-in and see if the problem goes away?
Personally, I use a third-party alarm program and has not missed a wake-up call so far.

I know this can be too much to ask, since there already some alternative to what I'm gonna ask.
For me(and maybe for some other users), this excelent plugin would be complete if it had a function for reporting missed calls and unread SMS (something similar to the HTC Home Plugin).
I'm loving this plugin in my personal ROM, but I miss having the Icons below the clock to show the missed calls and the unread SMS, which were the only functions I used from the HTC Home Plugin.
I ask this, because this plugin is the best choice for user that want to save ROM space and memory usage. I also know that adding more functions will increase it's size and memory usage, but there won't be that much difference.
Pitty I don't have programing skills, or i would do it myself. I know these projects are usually time consuming (I started cooking ROMs for Trinity a few months ago, so I really know how much spare time we all spend to try and please all other users that are less skilled), but maybe you can consider this in the future. I'll be more than happy to help in any way that I possibly can.
Either way, thanks in advance, for this already great plugin.

Thank you for your time writing this. I understand there is always a demand for these phone functions. Unfortunately, I have to decline your request.
On the contrary, the good news is that the source code is free for all to download. If someone wants to take up challenge of making this into something more robust, I'll be more than happy to let you use the source.
brunoisa10:
Can you go to Start -> Settings -> System -> Regional Settings -> Time and see if your Time Style has "ss" in it? For example, "HH:mm:ss". The time format on Pocket Digital Clock relies heavily on the Time Style. It does not write to the Time Style in any way. Time Style will change, however, if you switch between Regional languages too frequently.
If you cannot find a Time Style with "ss" characters, try changing the Regional language or overriding STFmt in the registry.
I'm unfamiliar with V2R MultiDesk. Are you saying MultiDesk does not work with Pocket Digital Clock?
Bingoig11:
I am actually using a private make that does not have the alarm icon since I have no use for it (I'm using a third-party alarm program). Without the alarm icon and AM/PM time markers, the time will actually look more centralized. By the way, the AM and PM time markers can be deleted from the Regional Settings.
I guess I'll introduce another registry tweak to disable the alarm icon.

I didn't pay attention to this before, but at this point, after instaling Pocket Digital Clock V1.0.3.1 (its the same with V1.0.1 and 1.0.3), the text from the Comm Manager 6 functions (Touch Dual style) is compressed.
I'm sure about this because I've tested more than once. Hard
Reseted the device, checked Comm Manager(all OK), installed PDC, checked Comm Manager again(text compressed).
Please take a look at this situation. It's not critical but...

Much better than the footprint HTC home has (all those loose picture files..)..
Great idea, can be used for other apps too..
( I would love a quicklauncer that uses icons and button-images also from a TTF file.
This way you could make a launcher only a few KB small, and with the icons and images already in a TTF which again would be easily modded by the tweakers ;) ).

I'm getting a bit desperate here... There's no such key as \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ProjectION\Pocket Digital Clock in my registry so i'm unable to enlarge the clock's font as i wanted to...
Can someone help me plz?
PS: WM5, Pocket PC only.
You can set font size from the option dialogs in Version 1.1 now, without messing around with the registry.
Do you have some spare time to attend to this problem, please...
Sorry I thought I messaged or emailed you earlier but I couldn't find my copy of sent message anymore. Anyway, I was asking if you could send me screen shots of your comm manager with and without Pocket Digital Clock. You don't have to hard reset to capture the screenies. Just uncheck Pocket Digital Clock to disable it from Today screen and the system font will revert to its original state. Honestly, I ran out of ideas on how to fix font inconsistencies now. The last resort will be to delete PDC.ttf from your device and commit to system font.

As I said before it's not a big deal, and until now, the Comm Manager was the only program that I noticed to be "suffering" from this problem.;)
You can see here, that the difference is not big, but the "ON" "OFF" doesn't look so good...:(

Thanks anyway

I had an issue with this using PhoneAlarm previously as well. There were two items that helped:
1. Put the font file in the \Windows directory (not \Windows\Fonts). Not sure why this helped but it did.
2. The "internal" name of the font needed to be a higher letter than the default Windows Mobile font, typically Tahoma. What we did in the PA forum was someone found a font editor and renamed the fonts to something like zDigi.ttf. But the key was actually renaming the "internal name" too. This has something to do with the order in which WM loads fonts.
I have attached the renamed Digital font if anyone is interested. Good luck.

Thanks for your screen shots. Now I understand what you meant be "compressed". This is quite puzzling indeed. I've raised the font problem to the MSDN developers newsgroup and now hoping to get some professional help.
kwickone:
I am actually aware of these two workarounds mentioned on PA's forum. In fact, I've implemented both together in the earlier versions of the program but the strange thing is they did not work for everyone. I am also refraining from using these methods because extra steps are required to unregister and delete the font files if end-users decide to uninstall the program later. Normally, end-users will not know how to remove the font properly unless they do some research. Anyway, your suggestions are very much appreciated.
One thing I didn't try is to replace my custom font with zDigi and see if it makes a different. I'll experiment with that when I have the chance.
Thank you.

Well, I decided to try something and it worked for comm manager. I don't know it'll mess some other program (I still have to check that out).
What I did was make a copy of PDC.ttf to windows folder.
Now I have PDC.ttf in "\Program Files\Pocket Digital Clock" and in "\Windows" folders.
Reseted the device, and now when i open the Comm Manager the Font is back to its original state.
I don't know if this is of any help to you, but it's what I did and it's working.
BTW, my device is a trinity with WM6.1

Hmmm.... interesting. Technically speaking, by duplicating and placing PDC.ttf into Windows folder, the font is registered from Windows rather than the application folder. On the other hand, the font linking between PDC and Tahoma is still valid because the other font file exists in the application folder. From my past experience, font registered in the Windows folder will not be globally available to all programs and that is why it works for you. This is a possible workaround but copying fonts to Windows is what I've been trying to avoid.
I found something interesting too. I played around with the iDigi font, which kwickone provided, and noticed that it does not corrupt fonts with or without the "internal namings". Upon further investigation, I discovered a particular font setting in iDigi, i.e. weight, is configured differently from the rest of my font files. The weight setting in my font files is set to default. My guess is programs that do not explicitly specify a font to use will try to look for any default weight font that is registered from \Windows\Fonts\ folder or via function calls.
FInixNOver, can you do me a favor and follow these steps:
1. Uncheck and disable Pocket Digital Clock from Today screen
2. Remove both PDC.ttf files from the application and Windows folders (You will need to do some file renaming and soft-resets.)
3. Unzip the attach file and copy the new PDC.ttf into \Program Files\Pocket Digital Clock\
4. Soft-reset your device
5. Check the font in your Comm Manager
Let me know if this works. Thanks.
P.S. If a program works on WM6.0 Pro, there should be no issues on WM6.1 Pro as well since there are no changes to the API as far as I know.

Hi galaxys,
Sorry I still have not finished updating the Customization page on the site therefore you won't find the answer there.

Thank you for coding your clock plug-in. I've the problem that the clock freezes if the device is locked. There is some hint on your project site called "Affixing the Plug-in" but the link does not work or rather is off line for some reasons.
Can you explain what is meant be affixing the plug-in and how to do that?

knight14th
13th April 2008, 10:36 AM
Found in Google-Cache :)
In order to affix the plug-in, you will need a Pocket PC registry editor to amend some registry values.
*
Use the registry editor and navigate to the registry key at:
\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items\Pocket Digital Clock
*
Open the registry subkey named Type under this registry key
*
Change the Value Data from 4 to 5
*
Save the changes
*
Soft-reset the Pocket PC to take effect
If you change your mind later and wish to revert to a movable plug-in, just repeat the above steps but reverse the Value Data from 5 to 4.
Type 5 plug-in is not well documented on MSDN Library as of this writing. Microsoft only mentioned it as "reserved". Therefore, I advise users to apply this registry hack at their own risk.

Hi galaxys,
To use long date:
5. What you have to do now is to select any available long date format without "ddd" or "dddd" in the string, e.g. "MMMM dd, yyyy"
6. Once you're done, go back to Pocket Digital Clock's option dialog and you should be able to uncheck the "Use short date" check box.
Edited: Oh one more thing, long date format is also not available if the screen orientation is in portrait.
OK, works per the above in landscape mode. But like many others, I use portrait 99% of the time! Is this something U can fix in a future release? thanks

Ignore my earlier post regarding the "ddd" and "dddd" strings. I was multitasking and confusing myself while writing that.
Instead of using landscape mode, the other alternative will be setting the system text size to the default size.
Due to the limited width of the Pocket PC screen, I had no choice but to implement such a restriction on the date format. Unless the general users do not mind seeing the day and date overlapping on one of the Wednesdays in September, I will gladly lift this restriction.
Just curious, what is the system text size you're currently using now? Second largest or the largest?

Great addition to the Today screen :)
I like the idea of displaying the operator instead of the day of the week, in the latest build. However, I see the name of my operator 50% of the time, but I also see a lot "no service". I can do calls and emails, so I do have service:

PDC is a great lite plug-in and could be made extraordinary if it were to include some useful interective displays rather than just a mere day date time informations.
I still take a fancy to HTC's plug-in due to its interactive features and the nice (but not that useful) 'glowing digital effects'.

Well, it has something to do with with the State and Notification Broker API which I am not very familiar with. I think I'll change to something more persistent for retrieving the operator name in the next fix.

Ok... I found a flawed function in my program that did not read and write registry strings properly. I've fixed this in version 1.1.0.1 and user-specified action will not be overwritten again.
Since the function that writes to the registry is executed last when the option dialogs close, I believe this is the cause of the following problems:
1. Option dialogs do not close properly.
2. The plug-in does not refresh automatically after changes made in option dialogs.
If you still encounter these two problems, do let me know. Thanks.

The only issue I foresee is the time separator showing as square boxes if you have overridden the system font (Tahoma) AND you are using a time separator other than colon( : ) and period( . ).

Thanks for the screen shots lwclam. A picture really worths a thousand words.
I can make a guess why the characters in your PIE are square boxes now. It seems like the PDC font is not linked to your Chinese font directly or indirectly. I also noticed the text on the option dialogs is kind of small and scrawny. The font used here looks like UniSun.
Can I ask you a few questions regarding the Chinese version of Windows Mobile?
1. Do you know what is the default Unicode font used on Chinese Windows Mobile? PMingLiu, UniSun, SC_Song or something else?
2. If you do not know what Unicode font is used on your device, use a registry editor like PHM Registry Editor (http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/) and navigate to the following registry key.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\Sys temLink]
Find the common Chinese font file and name specified in all the subkeys' Data field here.
If you link the PDC registry subkey to the common Chinese font file and name, it should solve your font issue. Anyway, let me know the list of subkey names in here so I can add it into my program. Alternatively, you can do another screen shot if typing is too much hassle.
For your info, I have CE-Star installed on my Windows Mobile and it uses UniSun to display Far East characters. In order to display the characters correctly in PIE, my PDC registry subkey has this value (without the quotes).
"PDC" = "\Windows\TAHOMA.TTF,Tahoma;\Windows\sunglobe.ttf,U niSun"
3. Does the English text in dialog windows of other applications on your device look so small and scrawny too? If no, I will see if I can override the system font on my option dialogs.
Also, I found that some options are dimmed. Attached are the screen shots of my problems.

3. File or shortcut from My Documents
If you choose the third option, the "..." button on the right will be enabled. Click on the box and a File Open dialog will open.
Note that you cannot navigate to other folders other than My Documents but if you have hacked the Open File function, you can open files anywhere, even on Storage cards.
To enable Day left-aligned and date right-aligned, you can either:
- Tick the Use short date check box, or
- Make sure that the long date format in Regional Settings does not contain "ddd" or "dddd" string, e.g. "dd MMMM, yyyy".
To enable Replace day with network operator name, the alignment for Day left-aligned and date right-aligned must be selected.

"PDC" = "\Windows\TAHOMA.TTF,Tahoma;\Windows\sunglobe.ttf,U niSun"
3. Does the English text in dialog windows of other applications on your device look so small and scrawny too? If no, I will see if I can override the system font on my option dialogs.
Hi
Attached are the registry keys under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\Sys temLink]
For other English menu, I've already tweak registry as follow:
HKEY_CURRENT_MACHINE\System\GDI\V1\FontAlias
[String] Arial:-14=Tahoma:-12
[String] MS Sans Serif:-11=Tahoma:13
[String] MS Sans Serif:-13=Tahoma:-9
[String] Tahoma:-1=Tahoma:13
[String] Tahoma:-10=Tahoma:13
[String] Tahoma:-11=Tahoma:13
[String] Tahoma:16=Tahoma:13
[DWORD] Version=0x5000C
To select an option in the Action combo box, you tap on the down arrow on the right of the combo box. You have three choices in the combo box:
1. No action
2. Clock & Alarms setting (Default)
For the Action, when I click the down arrow only shows one option "Clock & Alarms Settings". Or if I edited the registry, it only shows "No Action".
For other options I said, I can't select them because they are disabled. :(
I need to edit the registry to enable them. After I edited the registry, the option will be become normal, but other will disable.
e.g. when I edit to enable Replace day with network operator name, then Use short date or Hide day/date will be disabled.
To enable Replace day with network operator name, the alignment for Day left-aligned and date right-aligned must be selected.
These are documented on the Customization (http://project.ionized.googlepages.com/customization#OptionDialogs) page under the topic Option Dialogs.
I refer to the screen shots, I can't select Day left-aligned and date right-aligned. :(:(

Hi Ionized,
Just a another feedback from me. I've tried the latest v1.1.1 but regret to say problems still resides with my device.
I started with clean installation and without activated HTC plug-in, then proceed to Option Dialogs to change font size and date alighment.
As happened previously, the time interface still not updated with new settings on Today's screen. All the old problems still exist which I mentioned before, but this time my device cannot even call up any applications at all: When I clicked for, say MortPlayer in Program file, there's this prompt "...A critical component is either missing or cannot start because program memory is unavailbale..."
Moreover, I can only uninstall PDC by adopting "reinstall cab method" due to normal uninstallation process not effective.
Please ignore my problem if it's just a minority case so far. I've to appreciate your works delicated in this useful little plug-in and generously share it with us here and I understand it's not that simple to popularize any programs.

lwclam:
I just found out that Microsoft provides localized version of Windows Mobile Emulator. So I took the liberty and download the Chinese Traditional version of the emulator and did some test on it.
Anyway, I understand what difficulties you are facing now. The option dialogs were using the system font and the font distorted the Action combo box. That is why you could not see the up and down arrows when the combo box is expanded as shown below.
http://project.ionized.googlepages.com/lwclam01.gif
As for the grey out options, changing the registry will not enable them because the program does internal verifications. I'm not sure if you understood what I said earlier. So I'm going to use my broken Chinese and explain this again.
如果Day left-aligned and date right-aligned按不到的話,你可以改用Use short date.
http://project.ionized.googlepages.com/lwclam03.gif
否則,你必須注意一下Windows Mobile裏的完整日期設定 (開始 -> 設定 -> 系統 -> 區域設定 -> 日期)
假如完整日期裏存有"ddd"或者"dddd"如以下,Day left-aligned and date right-aligned就沒辦法使用
設定好Day left-aligned and date right-aligned之后,你就能夠點按Replace day with network operator name
http://project.ionized.googlepages.com/lwclam02.gif http://project.ionized.googlepages.com/lwclam04.gif
I will try to refrain from using non-English language on the forum. If you still have doubt and would like to ask me in Chinese, please private message me.
I have attached Pocket Digital Clock Version 1.1.1.1 which incorporates the proper font link for Chinese Windows Mobile. It should fix the square boxes in your PIE.

I appreciated your feedback. There are things I still want to try out. I had been shifting chunks of codes around and incidentally reproduced the problem you described previously. If it's not too much of an inconvenience for you, I hope you can give the attached Version 1.1.1.1 a test.
However, I have no idea what produced the prompt you just saw. It sounded like an out-of-memory error. How much program and storage space do you have left?

May i request some new features?
Some places we dont use the "am/pm" markers just the 24 hour format. But the program is just making invisible the markers and this way the clock is not centered well. The space after the clock bigger like in the right side.
I need an option to remove markers from the screen just like the alarm icon.
Thanks for your attention and of course this great todayclock! :)

The clock knows how to centralize itself. If you do not need the time markers, this is what you can do.
Go to Start -> Settings -> System -> Regional Settings -> Time
Delete the AM and PM markers and then tap the ok button on top. This will remove the time markers. Do not enter space or else there will be a gap after the time digits. Here is an example of centralized time digits without alarm clock icon and time markers.

The other legal custom fonts were picked from http://www.1001fonts.com/ and I did not know about Alien Round font until you mentioned it. I did a Google search for Alien Round but I can't find much information on it. If you can find me an image of all the number set including colon( : ) and period( . ), I may look into creating a TrueType font out of this font. It would be best if I can ask for permission from the original author directly.

I can't believe it! Ionized built this beautiful, easily configurable, low baggage, free clock, and now is taking requests for fonts? I'm still luving version 1.0, working great for me. Really, the only thing left to desire is in the area of fonts. Emunutz has some fonts that make me a bit envious, but there's absolutely no room for the required today screen space taken by HTC Home plugin, not to mention the storage of all the BMPs. Still, maybe there's a chance to have some TTF files that allow PDC a look similar to some of his striking fonts. Here's my fave, Comic Sans Bold White:
http://bellsouthpwp2.net/m/r/mrg2nz1/ComicSansBoldWhite.jpg
Lots more good ones are here: http://www.pocketemu.com/hhc/preview/clk.php
Making TTFs of these has got to be an awful lot of work, and won't give the full effect. Fact is, I'd be very happy just to be able to use Tahoma bold, because it would go well with my today screen:
http://bellsouthpwp2.net/m/r/mrg2nz1/CapScr.jpg
Thank you, Ionized, for the super great clock, for being so willing to help everybody's glitches/desires, for your clear and thorough Web pages, and any information about using Tahoma bold, or any such font.

Hi lwclam,
I guess the font linking fix was only a temporary solution.
With reference to the zDigi.ttf that kwickone had provided earlier (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2109493&postcount=141) (kwickone you're a lifesaver!), I think I managed to track down the font settings responsible for corrupting the glyphs on PIE for localized versions of Windows Mobile. It seems like the PANOSE values in font files must set to 0 or else PIE will go grab the custom font.
I repackaged the default PDC.ttf file and removed the dynamic font linking since it is not needed any more. I'll need to redo all the fonts files again later.
Please try the attached files and let me know if it solves your problem.
Thanks.

You're most welcome. I thank you too for reporting bugs that I would not have normally found.
I was thinking of letting the system's Graphic Design Interface (GDI) to create the bold fonts programmatically so that I do not need to make more font files. But after much consideration, I decided not to because the GDI produces very ugly bold effects like this (http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/3315/display3qw8.png) sometimes.
Done with most of the requested fonts. (Screen shots taken with ClearType enabled.)

Segoe UI Regular here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1995896&postcount=18).
Read Custom Font Installation (http://project.ionized.googlepages.com/fontinstallation) on how to use the attached files.
The legality of distributing these fonts are questionable so I'll just leave them here instead of my web site.
Alien Round will have to wait. I need to redraw all the numbers by hand because FontCreator requires a clean image (without the drop shadows) in order to trace the font shapes correctly. I also do not know how well the font will turn out since TrueType rendering is very different from bitmap imaging.
P.S. TrueType fonts with a lot of curves will definitely look nicer if you have a VGA screen.

Heck ya.. I was wondering if anyone else caught onto that PDC + Mobile Shell combo (haven't read this entire thread, sorry :P)... You gotta be sure to unpin spb tho so it goes below PDC. Was having to do this too, though I don't have quickmenu (trying to do all navigation one handed, with more success daily). But found soft reset no longer necessary by UNchecking PDC from today screen items, then tapping OK, before going back into today screen items for PDC options tweaking. And, after tweaking options, tapping OK withOUT checking PDC back on yet, but going back into today screen items a 3rd time to check PDC into action. Net result is waay tooo goood to bitch about 3 little trips to today screen items.

I'm not sure if this is the cause of the conflict but limiting the use of a Shell API function seems to prevent QuickMenu from crashing. My guess is QuickMenu probably doesn't like the Shell API functions too much. If I guessed correctly, Version 1.1.2 should work with QuickMenu.
I also had to include extra and redundant function calls to my program because the Option Dialogs could not save changes if Today Settings was invoked using QuickMenu. However, the Option Dialogs work fine if you start Today Settings by tapping on the "Start" word instead of the Windows logo on the top left corner. Don't worry about the extra overheads since they won't affect system resources too much.
Zenoran:
If you still have problem removing the program, try reinstalling Version 1.1.2 and perform another uninstallation. I have now included codes to remove these registry keys (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2044995&postcount=116) before the actual installation starts.
P.S. I'm having problem uploading files to the forum currently, so I'll probably revisit later and mirror the new installation files when they finish fixing the database error. You can still get the files on my web site before it hits the bandwidth limit.

yes it happened just with version 1.1.1.4, I had before another one, not remembering wich one, as I changed it for the freezing 1.1.2
so I'm going to try the new one, I'll tell you :)
So I just installed the 1.1.2.1, and it is working as I expected it, the only thing to delete the fontfile I had to softreset it, as it was not possible, even with the Clock not active in the today ... but now I was able to delete it, I have the date, and the seconds and when tipping on it I can put the wakeup.
I also changed "the type from 4 to 5" to block it on top ...
so for me now it is "as I was used to " ...

Great job in v1.1.2.1 as it seems to be the most stable one for me.
Can i also ask why the fonts in the touchflo cube's app launcher
are much smaller and compressed compared to the original fonts?
I have tahoma.ttf and tahomabd.ttf in \windows\
I tried removing PDC.ttf from program files and soft resetting and all fonts
went back to normal size.
But i love the fonts that PDC plug in was using b4 i removed it.
Is there anyway to use PDC.ttf for the PDC plug in yet still retain tahoma.ttf fonts in all other apps as per normal?
Or maybe a registry hack that can solve this?
thx.

Hmm... that's weird. I thought the "compressed" font problem is no more. Based on past experience, this font issue is due to certain font settings in the TTF file. There are many settings that could affect how programs use custom fonts.
Can you please open the attached zipped file and replace the PDC.ttf file in \Program Files\Pocket Digital Clock\ of your device and see if it works? The attached font file uses full bold font weight instead of medium weight in the font settings. (Default is regular.)
If it does not work, I will have to ask you to install ZDIGI.TTF (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2109493&postcount=141) in \Windows\Fonts\ later to determine if there are other font settings I missed.

btw, tried that b4 n it didn't work.
Anyway, attached sm pics so others can see the problem i was previously facing.

Thanks for the feedback C J.
I will include the above attached PDC.ttf into the next update and make the relevant changes for all custom fonts within the week.
Btw, ZDIGI.TTF will not work because it requires Unicode mapping before it can be used with Pocket Digital Clock. ZDIGI.TTF is used to test for font anomalies instead.

Hi,
Not sure if this is by design, but I'd been waiting to try out roaming, to see if the mobile operator would be listed in the text box above the clock.
In the event, it just says "roaming" - is there a way to dynamically reflect the mobile operator? (that is, the operator may change several times during the day, so it would have to refresh every x seconds, I think)

LET ME JOIN THE MANY OTHERS TO THANK YOU FOR THIS UTILITY!
It's lovely especially in VGA!
A qn (to all) : Options is a bit tedious to get to, is there a quicker way to it? thanks

Do whatever you want with it. No permission required. :)

Nice background.
I'm a little curious on the extra border on the right though. Did you replace the AM/PM time markers with spaces? Maybe you could try deleting the time markers (in Regional Settings) and see if the time alignment is more centralized.
paul c:
Once Windows Mobile detects roaming services, Pocket Digital Clock will display "Roaming" until normal service is resumed. I hardly have the chance to use any roaming on my phone so my knowledge on this subject is actually very limited. Suggestions are welcome regarding this matter.
If you want to see the mobile operator and the roaming status, I could make it display something like "XXX Telco (Roaming)". Problem with this is that I might run out of space on the top bar.
Or, would it be good enough just to display the operator name during roaming? (Since the roaming icon is shown on the top task bar.)
denizenx:
Unfortunately, there is no faster way to access the option dialogs currently.
What I could do is to add an "Options" context menu when you tap-and-hold the application on the Today screen...

I was thinking aling the lines of your last comment: "roaming" is redundant in PDC, due to the roaming icon on the top bar. I'd like to see which operator I'm using, since the operator I'm using at a given moment makes a difference to if I can use my abbreviated voice-mail dailing code, for example.
That is, for example in UK, O2 is owned by Telefonica (my operator), so I know with O2 I can use 123 to access my voice mail. If I'm on Vodafone, I have to use a long number, key in my phone number and PIN...

Yes, it is abit tedious to access the options menu..
And Yes, that would be a really good idea and solution..
More power to you.. :D

Hi Ionized,
I really like your program, looks like HTC home without the bulk. However, I have a slight issue (which isn't really an issue... bah).
I use 24h time so the AM/PM indicators aren't lit. It results in the weird centering that you can see on some screenshots. Is it possible to center the time without taking the AM/PM indicators into account when the user uses 24h time?

For the time being, you can centralize the digits by deleting the time markers in Regional Settings.
Go to Start > Settings > System > Regional Settings > Time and remove the AM and PM symbols.
This is mentioned briefly in http://project.ionized.googlepages.com/customization#FontSize (last part)

i also agree with a couple posters that a htc diamond clock would be awesome! if anyone can cook one up that would be appreciated!
sure the HTC Home plugin has a couple diamond style clocks available but I don't need all of the extra features and bulkiness of the full HTC home, just need the clock. i think a lot of people agree with that, that's why this plugin is so great and popular!

Any chance you can have an option to go full screen? Also the option to go landscape.
I've never managed to find a digital clock that goes full screen, so that I can use it as an alarm/nighttime clock.
